I own both the A7iv and the A7Siii and I'm here to tell you that the rolling shutter is NOT a problem 99.9% of the time. Most people aren't tracking shots quickly enough to see the rolling shutter. Most testers jank the camera left and right in an UNUSABLE way. The lack of 120fps is a killer...not because I need to slow it down that much, but it's nice to have the extra frames for smooth ramps. Both of these cameras are great for photos AND video.

I agree. When you know what your target field is, choosing a specific camera will become easier. If you want to do photography while at the same time doing some good video, the a74 is a great contender. When you want to focus on video only, the choices will become larger. A74, FX30, and ZVE1 will be one of the great Sony cameras to choose in the specific bracket.

Currently having the A7M2. Was sitting a long time in my shelf. But now I want to reactivate things. Start creating content and getting more into photography. As I can't decide or better say don't know what I want to do in the future (video or photography) this seems like a nice choice. I guess I can deal with the 1.5x Crop and 4k60fps.
Still, it just shows me again how expensive this hobby is... Camera, Lenses, Drone, etc. etc.

I'm still going for the A7siii or the fx3. The things that hold me back from the a7iv is the crop & rolling shutter. But the price difference is pretty big xD

You convinced me to buy this camera. If I’m going to be using this camera strictly for content creation (TikTok, Reeles) what’s the best lense for that style format? Sorry for the rookie questions, I’m new to the camera world. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Also need some good lightening for my room, any recommendations so I’m not using my crappy lighting in studio lol?

Totally agree. So much camera for the money. Also the E mount eco system, my tamron 28-75 never leaves the camera.

Excellent recap. Been enjoying mine for over a year now, emphasis on photos. But, been using video more in s-cinetone. Do you have a s-cinetone video tutorial including dual-iso numbers by any chance? As a reference, my main ‘video cam’ is gopro 11, media mod with rode wireless, in flat color profile, low sharpness, and 10-bit. Very convenient in vertical mode with the Quik app or LumaFusion. Super fun, easy, and convenient (not for indoor though).
Hey Stephane, I am literally working on a low-light/dual so video as we speak. Should be published on Monday morning if all goes to plan. It'll include a dual iso chart for all of the picture profiles in the a7iv.
So whaddya think about the Panny S5ii/S5iix??? I have been holding out on buying a new body FOREVER now - since before the Z6ii and the A7iv came out!
I have been waiting for the impossible - a somewhat future proof camera that I won't regret buying in six or so months...

Technically, yes, but I don’t tend to notice that. Most shots that I’m working with are around f4 but I guess if I was doing a shot where I needed more while in 4K 60, I’d use a prime. I think the 1080 60 is plenty sharp to use in a 4K project as well which doesn’t have a crop.

Great video to put out in 2023! Thoughts on the A7Riva vs just the regular A7Riv? Do you think it's necessary? I already have an FX3 and now I'm looking to have a separate camera for pics. Or should I just dump the fx3 for the A7iv 😂
What's up, Jon?! Tough call. I'd think that the a7rv would color match better simply due to the 10-bit color vs the a7riv only having 8-bit? I'd think that the best combo based on what you mentioned would be to keep the FX3 and add an a7iv? It'd color match well for video and the photos are great.
What about the heavy rolling shutter ..and the suckiest part of all mine overheats instantly when connected to my external monitor ninja V 👀 ..I’m currently looking for another option..not sure if I should wait for a A7SIV or the A1 with its new update coming 🤷🏽♂️
Hi all I want to post a question I just passed 09999 images with a7 iv. Then it rest the count. It didn’t continue even though there is room for 1 more digit in the count.
Anyone having the same issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I couldn’t find anything help on forums and the customer support was useless.
I own the a7iv I think at the very least they could reduce the 4K 60 crop to like 1.2x 1.3x or 1.4x instead of 1.5x they did a smaller crop for the a7rv so I don’t see why they couldn’t reduce on the a7iv it’s the very least they could do to help them and there customers or maybe remove or make a mark 2 I reckon if we work together they will have to listen and make a change and with your large platform and influence would really help if you could spread the idea around thx

Hey Colton, I might not be the best for advice on that but a principle that I always live by is to interact with everything (business included) in a way that I know I can stand by if anyone asks.

And idk what I’m doing because sometimes it seams tat I’m using a 400$ canon 😭
But when I nailed it
The camera is amazing
The only two things that I want is
More aspect ratios
And from my part “ᴛʜᴇ ᴄʀᴇᴀᴛɪᴠɪᴛʏ” that I don’t f*ing have
I'm sold.. I have two fx30s. I need a good hybrid camera. Im sooo sad it crops at 60fps though. What a bummer:( That's my ONLY complaint.

Perhaps one solution to anyone concerned about the 4K 60 crop would be to shoot at a wider angle to mitigate it.
People complain about having to take a few steps back

Agreed for most situations but I don't see that as a viable option for real estate

Yo! I haven't (and I've ran the battery in 4k 24p multiple times) but I have heard that people using it in warmer environments have had issues there
Very odd. I used a7IV more than a7siii and FX3. The only thing it did bother me, was overheating in 4k after 30 minutes in the sun. I was dual record tho. Will try again without dual record. If I can get up to an hour then will keep using a7iv instead of others. You mentioned the reasons why already.
I saw a setting in the menu where you can increase the overheating shutoff temperature. Was this enabled when yours overheated?

All depends what you need it for.
Agreed here. I'd suggest a 6-9 VND filter. I'm a fan of the Freewell ones at the moment.

I bough it as my third camera for my two A7SIII but I’m surprised about the 7K downsampling and I think it will be my main camera when I’m not shooting Real Estate.

What about the ZV-E1? It is a Sony 7iiis and FX3 in one . Only downside is the overheating problem
Have the ZV-E1 on the way - excited about that camera for sure. I'll be putting it to the test but am not currently concerned about the overheating ESPECIALLY as a b-cam

Most the new features appear in the consumer products before they get to the 'pro' line. Even that variable ND feature was in their camcorders before it came to the much more expensive FX6.

No clue, but it'll be an exciting one!

Note: you are able to get 10-bit 120p from 1080 in the S&Q mode
I sold my FX3 8 months ago and got the A7IV, only bummer is we just went through summer here where I live and man my camera over heated too many times it was crazy, and where I live it is not even that hot and humid. I could never imagine using it somewhere like South Florida in the summer. And yes I have all the high settings and LCD away from the body. Even though it over heats I can just shut it down for a minute or 2 and keep going but it is a PIA on jobs when it shuts down. I shoot 4K 60p 95% of the time is most likely also the reason, too much computing power going on for this camera.
Damn - hate to hear that! Maybe I'm lucky but I've never had an overheating issue, but I also don't have the benefit (or in this case challenge...) of that nice weather :)

Never had an overheating issue and I have two. Not once have I had to go to my backup
No overheating on 4K 24p
But 30p+ yes.
And the ZV-E1 will have the same problem.
For video full frame only recommend FX3 and the A7SIIi
