Just to update another brilliant APA video, the 787-9 has since started direct flights from YVR (Vancouver) to :GW (Gatwick), I believe from Mid March to Late October. In addition to direct YVR to YYZ (Toronro) flights all of the year. Off Season, the 787 does only fly from YYC or YYZ to LGW, with 787 connections to Vancouver. Thanks, Alex, keep 'em coming!
Hi Alec, I am a Canadian by birth but I migrated to Arizona from Calgary in 1983 - 36 years ago. I enjoy all your vids, especially those about Canadian carriers. In the early '80s, I owned a real estate company in Alberta and I listed 'FOR SALE' the carrier Time Air from Lethbridge and had the awesome privilege of working with a true Canadian aviation icon Stubb Ross. Do you remember how he used to pick up his passengers in a Volkswagen bus that he drove himself to transfer them to his Shorts 330, called the Flying Boxcar. I actually had an American buyer who desperately wanted to buy Time Air but couldn't because Canadian laws did not allow non-Canadian citizens to own more than 5% of a Canadian airline. The prospective buyer called me many times, several times through his attorney, but twice on his own. The prospective buyer was Muhammad Ali - THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME (G.O.A.T.). Stubb Ross received the Order of Canada in 1983 and passed away in 1987. In the late '80s, Time Air served 36 cities in Canada plus 2 more in the United States (Minneapolis and Seattle) with a fleet that included the de Havilland Dash-7 and later the Dash-8. Time Air also owned several Fokker F-28 jet aircraft and was the world's largest operator of that model.I would sure love it if you could do a video on this iconic Canadian airline. Time Flies . . . Why Don't You? You are one of my favorite channels. Keep up the great work.
Alex… I love your videos. They are always so informative but what I like most is that you are so articulate an interesting to listen to. You give us good information and make it entertaining to obtain this information. Thank you
One of the original -200s is in BCIT aerospace [C-GWJT], I LOVE using that plane for training. Great to see westjet thriving, hope the new owners run it well
Love WJ! Our transport company does their AOG in YYZ and we also fly WJ as much as we can. WestJet Cargo is amazing. Thanks for the run-down on their fleet. Great video!
I wish Westjet would put Wifi on the Encore fleet. Short haul yes, but sometimes you're on the plane for 1.5hrs which gets kinda long and boring with no other IFE.
Matthew Maynard porter only has q400s and its hub is toronto billy bishop city where they onyl allow q400s so they probably will just keep buying q400s until a newer version of turbo prop comes
@@DrakeFromStateFarm If the city had greenlit YTZ's runway expansion, the C-Series would've been able to deploy from there, but isn't the case due to environmental and water concerns.
@Gameflyer001 It's unfortunate, They had some good reasons not to expand but I know Porter has stated they are hoping to get YTZ expanded one day. They also still have a220s on hold to me knowledge
@@matthewmaynard1031 Couldn't said expansion be possible by extending the runway both ways by half the intended amount each side? That way, boating concerns would be mitigated somewhat, compared to the runway being expanded in one direction only.
That's a good question, I do remember hearing talks about it but nothing solid. As a regular in YYZ it's approaching capacity and Toronto will need a second airport at some point imo and the YTZ airport expansion is a good option
J'ai déjà volé avec West Jet et je dois dire que les 2 vols ont été super agréable et avec un excellent service à bord ! Merci à tout le personnel en cabine ( et ailleurs ) pour l'excellent accueil et service !!! 👍😎
There is some comments below : 1. Based on the stream of people using Saab 340 or similar series is an option. Anyway, the engine noise issue is a problem. While the client needs to have a few hours trip. the engine is near the client than airbus and 7XX series. So, they may need to consider the ear ad health of the client. 2. As my understanding, 7XX series is a historical one. A lot of airlines choose air buses or other large series plants. Anyway, I understand the ideology of choosing a plane is not easy and complex. Anyway, if I am a client with any option, I will consider any option. In fact, cross-country flight is not easy and the experience is worse if you stay in a tight sit.
Have you seen WestJet’s IFE safety video that plays on their 787s? It’s animated, it’s in both English and French and it even includes a few Swoop references
What an interesting video Alex! I’ve never really had a huge interest for WestJet (since I’m from Montreal, and I’ve never flown them a whole lot), but your video sure got me interested into knowing more about this airline! I wish we could see more WestJet flights at YUL, but considering that YUL is an already pretty over saturated airport on long haul flights (especially to Europe), its most probably unlikely that we will see 767’s and 787’s here anytime soon. Looking forward seeing them one day in Calgary though! :D
Fun fact: WestJet is the only Canadian airline to have an iMessage sticker pack. I use the WestJet stickers all the time. Two of the stickers even feature Boeing 737s with Disney liveries (one with Mickey Mouse, the other with a Frozen theme)
Awesome Video! I love how you cover the entire fleet with subsidiaries but also have that comedic effect! What do you think what their next aircraft order will be for?
Nice video to watch! Are the Max jets grounded in Canada too, just like here in the United States? I like how West Jet uses just a 737 fleet -- sounds like the Canadian version of Southwest Airlines!
Canada needs another major airline company. Westjet is alright and definitely the better option than AC but the costs are too damn high for the quality of service that you get. Just by the looks of it, Air Transat recently was bought out by AC and a Sunwing buy out is inevitable.
I live in Calgary and I'm training for my private pilots lessons, and I have full intentions to become a pilot for westjet. I've always been such a fan of them.😃
Terrific stuff. I always look forward to your videos. I was fascinated by Max Ward and Wardair after watching a NFB documentary ( www.nfb.ca/film/max_ward/). He wanted to offer scheduled service once the Canadian airline industry was deregulated in the mid 1980's. Next I heard, Wardair had been purchased by Canadian Airlines International. Do you know what happened to Wardair between the time they started scheduled service and the merger with Canadian? I would love to know. Thanks.
The Montreal - Toronto service on Encore is a huge disappointment, as are the new gates they built for the service. It takes forever to walk from WestJets main gate area in Terminal C to the Encore gates. Once you get to the gates it reminds you of some remote airport with 3 or 4 flights a day. I've really reduced the number of flights I use them for.
I believe they chartered 757s for their seasonal winter service to Maui prior to obtaining their 4 767s from Qantas. One year (2013 if I recall correctly), they even chartered a 747 due to the backlog of passengers after the ice storm in December of that year.
Nice that they stayed with Boeing. WJ link I don't look at real;y as Westjet owned aircraft. The Max problems will be rectified and be the most scrutinized aircraft flying.
Yeah I would never be caught on the 787 over an ocean. The type of Lithium-ion batteries that they use are still very dangerous and their so-called solution is pathetic. It's basically a hardened metal box if you're stuck over the ocean for how many hours until you get to the airport it will burn through. Also where do you go for air in pressurized cabin if it's filling with smoke?
Future looks promising? With a fleet of 737 Max? I for one will avoid WestJet like the plague. Seems like I will be stuck with Air Canada (provided they are not flying the Max).
They started out as the Canadian version of Southwest Airlines, which also uses an all-Boeing all-737 fleet, until the transatlantic expansion a few years ago. It just works for them, though they may get A330 NEOs to replace the 767s in the future.
No Airbus for Westjet, and the A380 is dead on arrival. 787 is a perfect replacement for the aging 767s, and very efficient like the A330neos, but they will probably stick with an all Boeing fleet.
Just to update another brilliant APA video, the 787-9 has since started direct flights from YVR (Vancouver) to :GW (Gatwick), I believe from Mid March to Late October. The livery never changed love that

Nice to know the fleet of WestJet. And can’t wait to fly one of the 787

Excellent video Alex! I'm flying on the Dreamliner YYZ-YYC on Sept 1st, can't wait!
Awesome video
Ever since I went to Mexico when I was a kid, WestJet has been my favourite airline
I had a really good experience on one of their first domestic Dreamliner flights and I'm hoping to try them out on a long haul route soon
I believe BCIT in Richmond has a Westjet 737-200
Same.
You're both correct, I just didn't have a good photo of it that I could include in the video.
They do
Can someone explain how they got it there? It is across the street from the runway but I see no visible way of getting it there.
rulinghabs I honestly don't know. Maybe they took apart the plane and got trucks to carry the pieces to the building then reassembled it again.
I wish Westjet would put Wifi on the Encore fleet. Short haul yes, but sometimes you're on the plane for 1.5hrs which gets kinda long and boring with no other IFE.
Lets just say something is coming, but encore cant pull any planes until the max returns
Great Video Alex! You should definatly do more of these for other Canadian Airlines like Porter or First Air/Canadian North
Matthew Maynard porter only has q400s and its hub is toronto billy bishop city where they onyl allow q400s so they probably will just keep buying q400s until a newer version of turbo prop comes

Really interesting video and overview, really enjoyed watching!
I really enjoyed the video, seeing all of the different types of aircraft is very interesting. Jet
I really do think that WestJet throughout their Fleet is I really cool aircraft to fly in
Great video. Nice to know more about WestJet

Nice and informative video!
With airlines failing all the time, it is nice to see an airline doing it the right way with slow proper growth where it makes sense.
Fantastic video! Thank you for covering my favourite airline on this topic.
Alex, any idea when we'll be able to start seeing their current 737/767 fleet repainted in their new livery?
Not for a while, the fleet is pretty busy covering for the MAX already. :/
Enjoy this..wonderful to hear it, love it..thank you Sir for the post
Merci Alex de nous expliquer comment fonctionne West Jet ! C'est super ! 👍😎

I believe there is a third 737-200 at BCIT at YVR. Great vid yet again Alex! I’m cheering for ya!
I always enjoyed Westjet when I would come to Canada.
Awesome Video! I love how you cover the entire fleet with subsidiaries but also have that comedic effect! What do you think what their next aircraft order will be for?
Yes! Thank you Alex!
I worked at WestJet from 2007-2020. I miss it. Damn pandemic.....
There is actually one more 737-200 still in full westjet paint donated to the BCIT aerospace campus at YVR
Awesome video! I can't wait to fly WestJet soon!
Brilliant Video 👍
Thanks Alex, another excellent video. Given the opportunity, my Wife and I ONLY fly WestJet.
Awsome video m8!
We flew on the 3 row wide body in June as #WestJet had more passengers flying from Toronto to Edmonton than seats on the regular flights...
They retires their 767s now, so is YEG-LGW still happening and with the Dreamliner?
i flew home on the Dreamliner from London to Calgary, it was a good flight.
787s are very efficient and perfect for Westjet
Just curious where the footage of the Saab 340s at 1:34 and 1:50 taking off from runway 35L was taken from. Seems to be from a building.
The Dreamliner is my favorite west jet plane
you mean in westjet's fleet
Can't wait for another Vancouver jet based airline .
Nice video one of the best
Do some Porter reviews and videos next!
Nice video to watch! Are the Max jets grounded in Canada too, just like here in the United States? I like how West Jet uses just a 737 fleet -- sounds like the Canadian version of Southwest Airlines!
The Max is grounded worldwide.
Great video great information and facts!!
I hope the 737-600 stays in the fleet for a while
Nice video. i live in calgary
Is West jet a full-service carrier? Do they own flights or lease them? have they ever faced the situation of insolvency? please answer them.
My dad flew 001 as an FO to SFO a few weeks ago
WestJet now does flights to Asia to Tokyo & Seoul
Canada needs another major airline company. Westjet is alright and definitely the better option than AC but the costs are too damn high for the quality of service that you get. Just by the looks of it, Air Transat recently was bought out by AC and a Sunwing buy out is inevitable.

Nice vid Alex, it would be nice to see WestJet with Airbus aircraft in their fleet one day. ✌🏼🇨🇦
Hi Alex :)
What happened to the Dublin flight?
oh so that 737-200 that always sits there is SAITS?
I miss the 732s😭😭😭

NICE 😘😘
You forgot about the 757s
Great video nonetheless!
Those were leased. I don't include those because it opens a whole can of worms with regards to specific registrations, how long they flew, etc.
Oh ok
They should fly to Asia next.
Numero Uno
How many 757's are they leassing

Onix corporation is Westjets owner now.
Calgary - Tokyo (HND) will be great.
The 767's are planned to fly to Spain right?

No robots until 2055
Love WestJet cept the hacking event🤪🙈😆😎
I saw a767 at lgw
Make this with Alaska Airlines please :)
Haha. Next time when if Air Canada becomes backurupt, WestJet will become the flag carrier. 😂
Canada’s Best Airline.

Yes. Hopefully soon
Lmao I saw the 787 WestJet today.
Selfishly, I wish they’d add 747-8s and of course the new 777x. It’d also be nice to see some A350-XWB/1000s at YYC on the regular.
Never stepping on a Max.
Future looks promising? With a fleet of 737 Max? I for one will avoid WestJet like the plague. Seems like I will be stuck with Air Canada (provided they are not flying the Max).
Westjet better than air Canada
Do a face reveal
Never fly westjet, 10 dollars cheaper than AC yet no food and a cup of poured water lol. Real "budget" / scam airline. Trash
It’d be cool to see their 67s being replaced by 330neos
Just curious, would Westjet ever consider buying any Airbus planes. If not why? I love them and would love to be on an A380 going to Europe
