I wince at the phrase “criminally underrated,” but it's true. The songs pre-released for the upcoming album, “Every Five Seconds” have every bit of “Sunshine’s” energy, if not more, plus all of the insight and thoughtfulness. They were the first band I ever saw live back in 1983, and I'm eager to catch them on their upcoming tour. Rock on, boys.
Dive into the Scorpions from the 70's & all the way into their latest album in 2022. This Is My Song, Fly To The Rainbow, Speedy's Coming, Holiday, Loving You Sunday Morning, Unleash the Beast, Love Em Or Leave Em, Shoot For Your Heart, Skywriter, Remember The Good Times, Rock Believer, Shoot For Your Heart & numerous other songs are awesome. All of their albums have at least 5 awesome songs.
You left your comment 12 years ago… Here it is March 2023 from what I understand the original band is still together and you are correct they are simply fantastic.❤
The Fixx is in my top five favorite bands. I’ve seen them about ten times or so live (last time was 2021, I’m getting edgy to see them again), and they are always nothing short of fantastic!!
IMHO this is actually the only song that is from the genre "New wave" I actually like the "Adam and Eve" part of the video..the tree with the forbidden fruit. Also notice the "noose" hanging of the tree...trippy stuff mang!
+Scott O My thoughts exactly Scott. You beat me to the punch. I too saw the premise of the song in the undulating images in the video. Great post and great point. Thank you. Cy and the Fixx are brilliant.
+kevin rynearson Distinctive sounding and original bands are in short supply and virtually non existent these days. The Fixx are brill! Great post and great point kevin.
+T Angelone That is very true, most bands now are cookie-cutter groups where their image is more important than their music. The Fixx has never been one of the run-of-the-mill bands, and I admire that...
Easily and sadly, the most underrated and underappreciated rock band of the 1980s. "Sunshine In The Shade" Those apocalyptic visuals. Luv the sudden ending, like ripping a power cord right out of the wall.
"Stand or Fall" and "Red Skies" were early video hits off their first album "Shuttered Room". They peaked respectively at #76 and #101. That was in 1982 just before radio playlist programmers finally got the bright idea that maybe the songs in the increasingly popular MTV videos might actually have appeal if played on radio. So these two video hits paved the way for the band's 3 top 40 singles from their sophomore album "Reach the Beach" a year later.
This is such a well written hit. You can hear how the catchy hooks are all there. Plus, it's got grit. It makes you want more. The sound of the 80's in this song are so refreshing today in this millennium, as yesterday. ★★★★★
Yes it is when I was IN MY TWENTIES and WORKING / DATING WOMEN ( etc) and APPRECIATION GODS BLESSING ME . And im STILL getting THAT FEELING when im HEARING my FIXX FAVORITES from its SEQUEL - WALKABOUT !
Probably one of the few bands that escaped the 80s that are listenable today .. I say the 80s was a very eclectic era, being a producer and writer out of that era, I tell you there was a lot of junk but there's some stuff that was just unique, the cars, rush, yes, and the fixx, the police, sade, u2, Duran duran, there's just a bunch of good acts, that survived because they were just simply well put together
I'm glad to hear that, because I'm planning to have Hollywood crews hire him to play the part of my made up character's magical dad, Grant Alex Feelgood who's an English wizard.
This is my all time favorite 80's pop band and that's saying a lot. I never understood why they were not wildly popular. Their music was genius. Their lyrics perfectly matched the music. I can see their songs in head.😊
I got to hang out with The Fixx for about an hour after a concert in Wichita, Kansas in the late 90s - very nice guys, easy going and fun, actually, regular guys. I talked with Cy Curnin for quite a while and Jamie West-Oram had a great sense of humor. Actually, I was just a fan wanting an autograph or two and they welcomed me into their world for a little while.
When they toured in 1991 I met them, and in my silly fangirl mode I said to Jamie, "Hello." He said Hello back, then I said, "you look really cute in person." He deadpanned "Well you look cute in person too." LOL I'll never forget that!
Sunshine warming the small of my back Whatever virtues I lack You can't see until I move Until I move in the shade Sunshine in the shade Sunshine in the shade Sunshine in the shade But then inside Sometimes I feel so cold Catching these self thrown blows But enough of the future I see A shadow belonging to me Sunshine in the shade Sunshine in the shade Sunshine in the shade Every man climbs a mountain With the hope to make a stand Every man makes a mountain of his life A masterplan Only hope Light in the dark Only hope Light in the dark Gives me hope Sunshine in the shade Sunshine in the shade Sunshine in the shade The shade of life Gives me hope of Some time and place
Sunshine warming the small of my back Whatever virtues I lack You can't see until I move Until I move in the shade Sunshine in the shade But then inside Sometimes I feel so cold Catching these self thrown blows But enough of the future I see A shadow belonging to me
Love listening to The Fixx,I always go back to One Thing Leads To Another though, there music so unique in a way, with New Wave genre its little bit rock, more New Wave GTA Vice City used the song I mentioned above, their were big in the U.S. more thanks to late Rupert Hine without he's a legend....
Norma Di Pardo I actually think it looks a whole lot like an 80s video, but it's perfectly good that way. I wish they had played it more, this song made me jump up and down and pump my fists as hard as I could, when I was 13.
Norma Di Pardo Well, I would imagine that depends on the director and art department as much as the band. I don't know who conceived, designed, or directed this video. That's more detail than I ever wanted. I just want to say, the stuff with Cy doing a devil face with finger horns, that was cheesy, and it came up 2 - 3 times. So I mean, come on, it's not the finest work of art. I just like it anyway. It's overall good.
New wave crashed so hard in 1984, and good songs like this weren't given a fair shot. This song might not be quite as good as "One Thing Leads to Another," but it's still really great.
Thank you for posting this. I was looking for this video on MTV a lot in 1984, and I only saw it once. Of course, I listened to the _Phantoms_ album many times. But when I saw this video, I never forgot the scene with the flashlight into Cy's head!
I wore this tape out! I purchased this album at least three times even though most of my money back then was spent on Coke ! Yes the 80's were all that ! Peace from Detroit MI
A massive load of atmospheric song writing. CC, JWO, & the boys writing some strong influenced songs. I can't get enough of The Fixx!!! Forever one of the best bands ever!
I 'accidently' caught a concert this tour of them. Whatta great show they put on. I was a fan from then on. Same thing for Radiohead. We had crappy radio here, what can I say.
The Fixx were my first ANGST band, you see, when I was 14-15 years old. These songs were just coming out and they still remind me of that time very much.
Love The Fixx. Phantoms is so underrated. Just look at what a boss Rupert is with his super-serious expression at 4:33 . He's a keyboardist with attitude. You have to be to get a cool headset mic!
+uncbbfblives No I believe this song to be about mythology and organised religion. LOL. Watch the video a bit more closely and it becomes fairly obvious what the song is about. The undulating images are cheeky references to organised religion: Adam and Eve, satan, The Tree of Life; fables: Paul Bunyan, Alice In Wonderland; The Chimpanzee: evolution and drugs and the mythological Santa Claus.
FIXX. ONE OF THE GREATEST SOUNDS THAT SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT. A TRUE PHENOMENON. XXG
The Fixx's music is the bridge between past and future
I wince at the phrase “criminally underrated,” but it's true. @@LordGandor3 Scorpions are known all over the world. It’s hard to call them little-known
SO much going on in such a short song. Sign of brilliance..
They're simply fantastic... This new wave sound... oh my god... Absolutely own style!!! I love the Fixx!
You left your comment 12 years ago… Here it is March 2023 from what I understand the original band is still together and you are correct they are simply fantastic.❤

Going to see them finally in Scotland... Can't wait!
Massive fan since the 80s
The Best Band, Period! No matter what kind of music you were listening to when the FIXX came on EVERYBODY tuned in no matter where their head was at !
This is one of my favorite songs from the Fixx
IMHO this is actually the only song that is from the genre "New wave"
I actually like the "Adam and Eve" part of the video..the tree with the forbidden fruit.

Very distinctive sound , an original band for sure.
+kevin rynearson Distinctive sounding and original bands are in short supply and virtually non existent these days. The Fixx are brill! Great post and great point kevin.

This song hit me like an avalanche when I first heard it.
Me too!
80's music was so awesome !!!
It still is!
80s music makes u want to dance. Not hate and ridicule and destroy. Much happier time.
TOTALLY 😎
this song was so underated! they were and are so good!
Underrated by who? When?
A serious long lost classic
Gary Macrie It's not lost. Buy the damn album.
"Stand or Fall" and "Red Skies" were early video hits off their first album "Shuttered Room". They peaked respectively at #76 and #101. The lead singer from this band owns a hat sop in downtown San Diego these guys are cool 👍😃👍✌️
Shop that's hat sop sorry
This is such a well written hit. You can hear how the catchy hooks are all there. Plus, it's got grit. It makes you want more. The sound of the 80's in this song are so refreshing today in this millennium, as yesterday. ★★★★★
Well put
Perhaps.
"Sunshine in the shade
Gives me hope for
Some time and place"
Not fir himself, but for somebody, sometime, somewhere...
This song is a time machine. Close your eyes and listen. You will be back in the 80's instantly. That's the power of great music!
Finally seen them this past year!! They still sound great!!😃😃

OH NO, NOT THE TREE OF KNOWLEDGE! LOLS. SUCH A WONDERFUL SONG. ALL THEY'RE MUSIC IS SO AWESOME!
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS VIDEO ! ! ! I miss the 80's. Cy Curnin ! ! ! deep sigh....
I'm glad to hear that, because I'm planning to have Hollywood crews hire him to play the part of my made up character's magical dad, Grant Alex Feelgood who's an English wizard.
So fantastic!

Song-underdog. Wonderful and unknown to many people
one of my best top 10 bands
Definitely underrated.
entered Billboard Nov 17, 1984 .reached #69 ...reached #39 on Rock chart
Reached #37 on Rock chart.
Jamie West Oram on Guitar and Cy Curnin from the Fixx dancing with Tina.
I never get tired of hearing this song, one of my all time favorite Fixx songs.
40 years ago ..THis Week November 24 1984 . MTV added this video
I got to hang out with The Fixx for about an hour after a concert in Wichita, Kansas in the late 90s - very nice guys, easy going and fun, actually, regular guys. Happy 67th Birthday Jamie West-Oram February 19, 1954 Barnsley, United Kingdom.
I really like his unique guitar style. He was fantastic live.
@gringo loco2 I know huh..
When they toured in 1991 I met them, and in my silly fangirl mode I said to Jamie, "Hello." He said Hello back, then I said, "you look really cute in person." He deadpanned "Well you look cute in person too." LOL I'll never forget that!
Sunshine warming the small of my back
Whatever virtues I lack
You can't see until I move
Until I move in the shade
Sunshine in the shade
Sunshine in the shade
Sunshine in the shade
But then inside
Sometimes I feel so cold
Catching these self thrown blows
But enough of the future I see
A shadow belonging to me
Sunshine in the shade
Sunshine in the shade
Sunshine in the shade
Every man climbs a mountain
With the hope to make a stand
Every man makes a mountain of his life
A masterplan
Only hope
Light in the dark
Only hope
Light in the dark
Gives me hope
Sunshine in the shade
Sunshine in the shade
Sunshine in the shade
The shade of life
Gives me hope of
Some time and place
Sunshine warming the small of my back
Whatever virtues I lack
You can't see until I move
Until I move in the shade
Sunshine in the shade
But then inside
Sometimes I feel so cold
Catching these self thrown blows
But enough of the future I see

"Every man makes a mountain of his life"
It doesn't look like an 80's video. Good quality. Super Cool song. Cool the keyboard master and his micro
Norma Di Pardo I actually think it looks a whole lot like an 80s video, but it's perfectly good that way. I wish they had played it more, this song made me jump up and down and pump my fists as hard as I could, when I was 13.
Ben Culture Maybe in USA, but they are not from USA, are they?
Norma Di Pardo No, they certainly aren't, if that matters.
Ben Culture I remember USA have typical things you can see and guess it is an 80's or a 90's video
This song deserved a proper, official extended mix back in the day. The album version is too good to be this short.
I have to replay several times) Otherwise it is difficult to fully enjoy the song.
New wave crashed so hard in 1984, and good songs like this weren't given a fair shot. This song might not be quite as good as "One Thing Leads to Another," but it's still really great.
Not quite as good? Completely garbage by comparison. To each their own. This song was like fingernails on a chalkboard. It shouldn't be dug up
@@redeyestones3738 Sounds a little normie of you
Coolest video in the world.
Lovem! Memorabilia tickles my ears.
oh yes, I remember this song now from one of my favorite 80's bands.
Thank you for posting this. I was looking for this video on MTV a lot in 1984, and I only saw it once. Of course, I listened to the _Phantoms_ album many times. But when I saw this video, I never forgot the scene with the flashlight into Cy's head!
Genius.
I love the tricks Rupert does. He is an accomplished keyboard man and has made his own inventions with the synths.
I wore this tape out! I purchased this album at least three times even though most of my money back then was spent on Coke ! Yes the 80's were all that ! Peace from Detroit MI
91X San Diego used to play this. Nothing like that anymore.
Great station
Ahhh i loved MTV back then. Pure magic ❤
Hi I Recommend an indie rock song and video called 'looking into the mirror' by Robert Nix

The Keyboard 🎹 of The 1980 s is Saying DEVO ❤ !!!!!
I'm 45, but this song just makes me feel 18 again.
Came across this by chance. Takes me back to a long lost time😊😊
A massive load of atmospheric song writing. CC, JWO, & the boys writing some strong influenced songs. I can't get enough of The Fixx!!! Forever one of the best bands ever!

The Fixx were my first ANGST band, you see, when I was 14-15 years old. These songs were just coming out and they still remind me of that time very much.
20 songs later on a Fixx mix and you recall just how damn good they are. 1:08 - 2:27 Other worldly
20 songs later you don't remember a single one of them, though.
There's always sunshine in the shade 😎 !!!!!!!!
Love The Fixx. Phantoms is so underrated. Just look at what a boss Rupert is with his super-serious expression at 4:33 . He's a keyboardist with attitude. You have to be to get a cool headset mic!
Underrated by who?? The album charted 19th on the Billboard Top 200. Are We Ourselves charted 1st in Top Rock Tracks in 1984. What are smoking, dude?
I've always loved this song, just the musical effects, the lyrics....the video is pretty bizarre....but still love this song!

Neat song, weird video. It's quite interesting.
Christmas Eve 🎄🎁 2022 Jam
I've never found this great song on any Christmas albums. What would the Santa with his bell think?
Play from the Shadows when it gets Hot!
Vet hard
This video= Happy Holidays from Hades!
the shortest single of the 80s by far.. even the Ramones had longer singles by then
