It is a Windows 10 boot time comparison between two laptop running on exactly same hardware except the RAM i.e; 8GB(4+4) on first one and 16GB(8+8) on second one
Both laptops are ThinkPad T430
Specifications
RAM - 8GB(4+4)/16GB(8+8) 1600Mhz DDR3
CPU - Intel core i5 3320M
Storage - 500GB/256GB SATA 6Gbps SSD
GPU - nvidia NVS 5400M 1GB dedicated memory
I forgot to mention it before in the video while editing, that RAMS used on both laptops are dual channeled i.e, (4+4, 1600MHz) on left one and (8+8, 1600MHz) on the right one.
And booting time does not only depends on the RAM used but also there are some other factors like
*Operating system( 32bit or 64 bit, windows 7 may boots faster than windows 10 in many cases)
*Most important one i.e. CPU/Processor
*SSD or HDD (If its SSD then whether it is SATA or NVMe / if HDD whether it is 5600rpm or 7200rpm)
*Startup Apps, etc.
So booting time can differ for everyone based on the system specifications and the factors mentioned above.
In my case both laptops have the same hardware specifications and same startup applications turned on but at the end of the day its just a small comparison and does not give same results every time.
What’s the DDR generation and what’s the latency of the RAM?
@@rahuldeb5gaming103 both laptops are using DDR3 1600Mhz but I am not clear about the latency
@@TechAbhi708 from same companies?
The difference isn't related to the ram. You don't need over 8gb ram just to boot a clean system.
True, but I think that the 8 GB model has RAM in single channel, I have no other explanation.
the title should be single vs dual channels
It's the hdd
@@dogshitgovernment agree
@@Manknuggest hmm... If the HDD used were not the same it kinda invalidate the test?
Booting à system is more related to the hard disk than to ram. But it's always good to have some extra ram
They both have 500gb sata SSDs
See the video dumb the first pc have 500gb and the second one 256gb but even it is faster
So the shit u said is wrong don't try to say something u don't know
RAM has got NOTHING to do with the boot up times between these 2 laptops. Both running SSD's, not the same capacity though. You could take the same spec laptop and have 4GB RAM with the same frequency and the start up times should still be similar to these 2 laptops. Not forgetting apps that are starting up along with the boot of Windows. Startup tab in Task Manager.
true. It's about MEMORY not RAM
I have 4gb ram and 1tb hdd in my laptop....so should i go for ram increase or ssd..plz reply
@@MrVibhor20 ssd will speed up your lap overall by a lot ...
@@mr.lunatic3157 no need of ram...?
@@MrVibhor20 believe me youll need a ssd before ram..you can get a ram stick later anyway
I'm a chronic judger and perfectionist and Imma give you a tips for laptop on the right.
1.
Change BIOS/UEFI from Legacy to UEFI.
2.
Clean install and make sure in Rufus before flashing, you select GPT partition scheme.
That way, you don't get the stretched Windows logo which I really hate.
Both the laptops are already set on UEFI BIOS mode and both are using GPT partition style
Just watch Sandeep sangh how to make windows 10 run 200% faster. Everything people need is there for fastest bootup
Ah yes... The streched windows logo...
*stretched windows xp boot screen flashbacks*
SSD + dual channel Ram is the best combo
Just get a Computer
You are 100% correct .I have tried it 👍

I think is more of SSD depending than ram ram doesn't play a significant role in loading times compared to the hard drive but it does in multitasking
512gb ssd usually have better speed
What about Samsung Evo 500gb?
Higher capacity ssd often have higher speeds. There's your difference
The 8gb of ram system has 500gb, the 16gb system has 256gb. Wouldn't the advantage to to the 8gb here then? Hence making the difference bigger.
@@jamesmelwani6000 Look the size of the SSD does not make any performance difference until and unless they are 70% full. After that the SSD's performance can be downgraded. But that's not the case here. Both are SATA 3 6Gbps SSDs which means their read/write are same.
Also there are basically 3 types of SSDs
1. 2.5' SATA 3 (it uses SATA bus as lane for data transfer, speed: 560-600MBps)
2. M.2 (it also uses SATA bus as lane for data transfer, speed: 560-600MBps)
3. NVMe M.2 ( it is the fastest SSD, it uses PCI express as lane, NVMe gen 4 speed: 5000MBps read/ 4400MBps write)
Note: There is also a slight difference in the read write speed of different brands different ssds, but when I had done the crystaldiskmark test of these two SSDs they came out to be same i.e. about 550MBps max read and about 489-492MBps write speed
So it makes the major difference when you have different types of SSDs.(i.e SATA vs NVme)😄😄
(I use 16gb and a HDD) Now i know why it so fast
Ssd Join the chat😂
I have 8gb ram and 128gb SSD
now I realized, speed is like M.2 NVME
Here my delll 5558 with core i3 /4gb boot in 11 sec
OS win 8.1
HDD is NOT fast!
i have 8gb ram pc and a kingston sata drive ssd 240gb and it feels like its 16gb ram
My characteristics;
CPU: intel Pentium b960
RAM: 4GB (1600mhz)
SSD wd green
Results:
Laptop name logo (acer): 0.67sec
Windows startup: 2.01sec
Logon account: 10.2sec
This on my recommendation xD
Beary nice
I have 16 gig of ram, but still on HDD
That one random guy that has a desktop with over a terabyte of RAM: "5.365325 seconds! That's a world record!"
I have HDD 500GB with 8GB ram and takes more than a minute to login
So painful to see this 😭😭
@Nikhil shaw But today I've got it equiped with 128 gb SSD after watching this video and now it's booting in 26 seconds ! 😀😀
Booting depends on the speed of your secondary storage not ram
Hard disk is slow and takes.a lot of time to load
My advice is to buy a 128gb SSD for windows. and other fast speed needing applications while keep the 500gb HDD for further use
@@smallbrainbiggame9553 Already done the same :D
My dad's Dell has a 1 tb sloooow hdd and it used to take 3 minutes to load, now after i optimized it a lil bit, it takes 1,5 minutes
The booting speed depends on the storage device, the processor and the ram speed. The not the ram size.
I know and I already have mentioned and pinned it in the comment..I only have made this video for fun...keeping all the factors same on both computers i.e. Processor, SATA 3 6Gbps SSD on both, same builds of windows 10, Same startup apps...but don't know how the 8GB one tooks long time (also both the uses dual channel 1600Mhz RAMs) 😕😕
@@TechAbhi708 Thanks Tech :D
I've 8 GB RAM with 512 GB SSD and it boots in 10 sec. It doesn't make sense, You've shown 8 GB RAM PC booting in 23sec while my 2 GB RAM with 512 GB HDD PC take almost this much time.
Look... actually boot time doesn't only depends on the RAM but also depends on the other factors like the operating system you are using( windows 7 can boots up Faster than windows 10 in many cases) startup programs, background processes, SSD..whether its is SATA 3 or NVMe, RAM frequency, and the most important processor...in my case all the factors in both laptops are identical except the RAM....so boot time can differ in every case from pc to pc depending upon those factors
Why is everyone commenting like they're smarter than you? You did a good and fair comparison, although I would have preferred to see it done on a desktop using the same test bench
Thanks buddy 🤓❣️
boot time is all about having a decent ssd
i have 8+8gb ram and 256 SSD, why is my laptop took around 2 mins to boot up?
I once read in a official Microsoft documentation that PCs with more RAM may take slightly longer time to boot than similar PCs with less RAM. It was something about Windows being able to skip certain things from its checklist when on less RAM. Of course, the machine with more RAM would kill the one with less RAM in terms of actual OS performance once the devices complete boot up.
I mean yeah more ram is more speed
Absolutely have nothing to do with the ram size. My experience is 8gb usually boot faster.
Mine boots less than 5s with single channel ram
No tiene sentido que encienda mas rápido por tener mas memoria Ram, quizas la diferencia sea la velocidad de la memoria y no tanto la capacidad. ¿Las memorias son el mis modelo en ambos portátiles?
If they are in dual-channel and fastboot is turned on (default), and he have a lot of programms at startup may decrease boot time like that. I think Linus Tech Tips made a video while ago that showed that more RAM and shorter boot time where related until 16GB of RAM.
If you can not wait another 5-10 seconds for your computer to boot up, then you need some counselling. Only get the upgrade if you have software that requires it or if you have extra money. Like everything in life, buy according to your needs.
Wowww! 😯
People be idiots here in the comment section read the title. Good vid now I know why my older cumputer takes forever to boot didn't think ram also had something to do with the boot time. Windows 7 takes hours to boot compared to 10 and 11 is way faster than 10. Boot time wise.
I think the that the video is not that true bcz it needs ssd not 16g ram bcz the system mostly use 2g RAM when its working I hope u get the point😀😀💙
Mais aí não vale o notebook da direita ligou primeiro , o certo seria repetir o teste e colocar os 2 para reiniciar pra poder ver a diferença

You should made two comparations 8 x 16 and sata x sdd. You put and SSD with 16GB againt 8gb sata.
Your video is informative and interesting
Not a fair comparison both PCs don't have the same things installed on them.
I remember using the laptops in school, they are so damn slow they take a minute to log in
Not mine about 10 secs and I’m at my desktop and it’s 14 years old
1 minute is alright (for the hard drives)
That's not because of RAM
U don't even need 8gb to boot a simple operating system.
I have a ddr2 pc (which is from garbage) having 160GB HDD and 2GB ram which is running on arch linux. Takes only 30 sec to boot.
the comparison isnt that useful but if someone has the same question and they looked for it on youtube, this is the answer
Ya quisiera tener aunque sea el de 8 gb porque el mío tarda 5 años en cargar
Both of them having ssd with same data transfer rate? i think that matters more than ram size
It has to do with single channel vs dual channel.
the files have to travel faster to get thru single that's why it's slower.
I have 4 slots in my pc for ram already installed 8+8 gb can i use 8+8+16+16 gb setup?
Its fantastic 🙂🙂🙂
Just watch Sandeep sangh how to make windows 10 run 200% faster. Everything people need is there for fastest bootup
No me voy a morir por esperarme 10 segundos mas
I upgraded my system from W7 to W10 and it boots way faster. 8Gb ram
8gb is that fast? Then my laptop probably has 4gb
Boot time not related to ram you need SSD for faster reboot
Can't really do this unless you have the exact same programs loaded lol.
My laptop still slow even though I have upgraded with SSD.
Pour la comparaison faire le avec la même ordinateur C'EST MIEUX
I've upgraded my pc from 8gb to 12gb it had two 4gb sticks of ram crucial and I bought a 8gb ram stick kingston had swap a 4gb with the 8gb as am limited too 2 slots my pc now fires up quicker and also works alot better allso has a 1 terabyte harddrive windows 11
16gb is better
no wait . . .
the ssd the point of the fast speed
make both laptops same hard disks !!!!!
My PC's boot time is too long.I've (4+8)GB ram and 1TB HDD,how can I speed up mine?
Its because of HDD...at the hardware level to speed it up you can go for an SSD... as a normal SATA 3 SSD is also 5 to 6 times faster than an usual HDD. So I suggest you to get an SSD install.
Otherwise on the software level you can perform some system setting tweaks like
*Try no GUI boot
*Try to clean you junk temporary files from your computer's temp folder
*Turn off the startup applications that are not required at the startup
These steps can help in speeding up your system but again I suggest you to get an SSD😊😊
Hmm Im upgrading from 6 to 16 on an old pc ( I think) so I should notice a decent difference........only gonna cost £30 - is it worth upgrading such an old computer (2010)?? 3ghz/6gb/1.5tb
If you upgrade from a 8GB RAM to 16GB you will found only see 10-20% of performance boost. So but if u upgrade from a HDD to a SSD it will provide up to 60-70% of performance boost...as HDD r/w speed is 100mbps and a normal SATA 3 ssd has a r/w speed of 600mbps
@@TechAbhi708 Thank you for the reply - Sorry I didnt it earlier.
Well that computer broke and I have a new (to me) computer..........sounds like I should get an SSD - thanks for the advice.

SSD will make it even faster
No tiene nada que ver la ram con el procesador que compraste
Here is difference of ssd and hdd because you install 500gb hdd not ssd
Its 500GB SSD bro not HDD
I recently bought a HP Pavillion laptop with i5 11th gen, 8gb RAM, 256gb SSD+ 1TB HDD and its OS is windows 11+...I opened my stopwatch and checked the bootup time after watching your video and my laptop loaded as fast as your right hand side laptop with 16gb RAM..lol I'm confused.
Because for the most part ram doesn’t actually have anything to do with boot speed. It only makes a difference if you don’t have enough memory to load the OS on to (and 8GB is more than enough for the OS itself) the bigger factors are your processor and boot drive.
Edit: duel channel memory does make a difference on loading speeds, but capacity has nothing to do with whether or not your memory is duel channel.
You probably have a nvme m.2 ssd not sata
I've been thinking of getting that laptop for gaming do u recommend it?
