The problem is that, if OW2 hadn't been constantly pushed as a competitive game or if the devs hadn't broken the promises made previously (or hadn't made those promises in the first place) then OW2 would be legitimately superior to TF2, but because Blizzard's execs like to mess in affairs that don't understand and just want money, then the game and it's playerbase had to suffer for it.

The way I see it, TF2 is Luigi in 'Luigi wins by doing nothing'. The game just exists at this point and then outlasts any potential competitors by doing almost literally nothing. Those competitors keep on running themselves into the ground or the game just dies for some other reason. TF2 outlasts all even with the bot problem that it has and it's to a point where the remaining players either adapted around these bots or just play on community servers.

it’s funny but almost everything we love and hate about the video game industry can be traced back to valve
You know who really popularized Lootboxes
CSGO while yes Tf2 has lootboxes before CSGO
CSGO was on demand lootboxes that we designed by phycologists to be addicting
The battle bass was first created by Dota 2
and well as much as i love steam
Steam is basically a monopoly on the PC gaming market that killed physical media and we still don’t know valves plan for when steam shuts down (they said they have a plan back in 2013 but they’ve never elaborated on that since and we can only theorize what it would be)
i love valve i think they overall are still more of a good than evil (similar to Nintendo Atlus or Sega) but god these gaming companies need to realize that unless your Valve or Nintendo you aren’t going to get away with it
those 2 companies have both revolutionized gaming and have strong fanbases that are willing to put with alot of shit

Its honestly something Managers and money grubbers dont understand. 1 OLD dev workign on a Porject ofr multiple years is gonna be vastly more effective than 20 devs starting ont he project no matter how much experience those 20 devs have if they havnt worked on anythign similar.
If im honest i Hope that after the TF2 source 2 project made by fans is done. Valve might ask to aquire it from them through hopefully Nice means. cause at that point its a part of the completely new engine AND has a hopefully less spaghetti code allowing for better additions int he future.

I'd like to add some points
-steam is mostly new players, the game runs at slightly higher fps on bnet than steam because steam runs in the background and battlenet doesn't
-you can still get into a game in a few minutes or less depending on what you queue for, but it should go without saying that of course you'll have hour long queues if you play at 4 AM on a top 500 account
-blizzard ended their deal with tencent earlier this year
-overwatch league was a lost cause and has been bleeding money from when it started, overwatch league shutting down was inevitable and overwatch, contrary to popular belief, HAS NOT been pushing for the game to be competitive (and I'm saying this because I wish they did!) Don't believe me? Ask any top 500 player, or the contenders players who seeked legal action because they weren't getting paid on time
While yes, tf2 is a great game, let's not defend valve here, valve made this great game and they do nothing but neglect it and overwatch is in a similar situation where it's a great game but the higher ups at blizzard make decision after decision that is making the game worse but at its core it's an amazingly engineered game with a lot of depth but also has a lot of moments for goofy or cheesey moments to happen, and I would like to disagree about the devs not being talented, they really are, but with how blizzard is structured they have very little choice in what goes in the game because as a publicly traded company every decision affects the bottom line of its shareholders, and many employees have come out with stories about having their time wasted on pointless side-projects only for them to ultimately be scrapped making it harder for them to just focus on the game.
If you have read all this, then thank you, I hope you'll see what I've said as what it is; a disagreement, but in good faith, I have thousands of hours in overwatch and i just want to see it do well but blizzard keeps fucking up, however, I do think some criticisms are unfair, but why would I care, you might ask? Well the reason I care is that it distracts from the real problems, like their lack of communication and recycling content.

I love TF2 to death, but that 100,000 player count doesn’t look so attractive when you realize they’re 90% bots (just go to teamwork tf to see the bot-to-human ratio). Calling Overwatch dead when Overwatch has 3x the playercount of TF2 during their respective peaks on Steam alone is just plain disingenuous.
If Overwatch fans constantly went out of their way to make videos about how TF2 was a “dead” game, I would understand the sentiment behind this video.
But they don’t, so can we just admit both games are far from dead, enjoyable for different reasons, empathize with how each our games have been deeply mismanaged, and stop having the most pointless war in history already?

Ironically, no, they didn't beg, it's sadder than that. In order for allowing the Microsoft deal to pass, they are required to put certain games on multiple platforms, both CoD and OW2. Also Microsoft has a contract with Valve to put certain genre's of their own titles on Steam, namely FPS's. So yeah, Blizzard didn't want it on steam, it would put it up for actual customer reviews and player stats, but they don't have a choice if they want to be purchased by MSFT.

  • @Lord_Numpty
    @Lord_Numpty Год назад

Overwatch was fun for a time, but never really had any staying power. Every character has locked in abilities and no weapon variety, the best you can get are skins whereas, say, an Engineer could have be stock, versatile with mini-sentries, be a mix of offence and defence with the Rescue Ranger or a berserker who slaughters Heavies on the frontline. You see a Junkrat, you immediately know 'that character has a grenade launcher and is likely going to rev up an explosive tire.' There's no variety, no personalisation, it's one and done no matter how many characters they have.
Even their PVE modes weren't anything all that special with 'you four, exactly as you are, need to complete these objectives' as opposed to MVM's 'the waves get tougher, but so do you and there's a bonus for doing well'.
And in their efforts to pursue 'inclusivity', they ended up damaging the characters they already had, making it look more like such things were arbitrarily crowbarred in long after their creation for the sake of political pandering rather than something that happened organically. TF2's pretty light on story even considering things like Expiration Date and the comics and even these nine classes have more charm and personality than a majority of Overwatch's cast will ever have unless their name's McCree, Winston or Hana Song. No, I'm not calling him anything other than McCree, it's a name and shouldn't be changed because a terrible individual happened to have the same one, you don't see the Nambian politician changing his because it's the same as a failed Austrian painter.

Ngl first half of the video just seems kinda wrong? Like you literally still can't make the argument about the player counts because Overwatch is also multi-platform same way with GTA V like you've mentioned towards the mid end. TF2 very likely does have more players I'll give you that but because Blizz wont give us that statistic on their launcher and the respective consoles OW is on we truly never will know and its not a fair argument to make. People knew where to get Overwatch before and it coming to Steam is honestly not going to make everyone suddenly swap over to Steam. SURE a ton of people will and I am one of those people but they've already came to terms to have Bnet on their computer in the first place just to play it before so idk why they would move beyond just preferring to use Steam. People are lazy and they'll jus keep the game installed on Bnet just so they don't have to reinstall the game and / or deal with the bugs that would come with a new launcher for the game as they already have it installed and ready to go and working already.
Queue times aren't as bad as that graphic you posted and honestly that's legit just misinformation for queue times now, highest I've seen is like 10 Minutes as a GM player for quickplay and 15 the highest for comp but that's during late at night. The graphic you used was an old screenshot when the game was going through that unacceptable content drought by a high level player amongst like less than 1% of the player base to be able to matched with that person fairly in competitive matchmaking and does not represent the Queue times today. 5+ minutes (which is the highest I see during normal hours) is honestly stupid don't get me wrong but it is NOT 30-times worse.
To basically insult the devs who are basically taking orders from the gaming industry's Hitler also feels a bit tactless? A vast majority of the problems with the direction of Overwatch is because of higher management positions, There's an old Overwatch dev who called Bobby out on twitter for putting the devs through a bunch of work and then telling them to scrap it once they put months of work into it. I wouldn't be surprised if the reason why the sequel for Overwatch even happened in the first place was a push by the CEO himself. I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if the reason Kaplan and Goodman left was because of Bobby's ridiculous expectations for the dev team. I also don't want to say the devs are these poor innocent people being controlled with everything because they do have some amount of accountability for making some REALLY stupid decisions and they're known for doing so. Just seems super spiteful to insult them in this position when its company greed causing these issues and they're forced to comply or work somewhere else.
IDK if I'm not in the same spaces as you are in the TF2 community but I see WAY more TF2 players caring a lot more about Overwatch than Overwatch players do about TF2 players, maybe I'm not on the frontlines of this stupid OW v TF2 debate but the only times I really see any Overwatch fans talk about TF2 is when TF2 players boast about how much better their game is and that they "outlived overwatch!!" under some Overwatch related blunder and get the response of "Broke person fights broke person" argument. It just feels like random malice out of nowhere and I just don't get it. Both games are being kept alive only because they generate revenue for their respective companies and are being mistreated heavily and it just doesn't make sense to be fighting this war for these companies who only seek to benefit by being quiet while we measly peasants fight over scraps of content we receive.
Now I don't think the reason why Overwatch 2 coming to steam is because of the Overwatch league though that is a good point. There is a rumor that the reason why Overwatch came to steam was so they could get their market with china back as they don't have to resign a contract while still being able to have their hands in the Chinese market albeit at less of a pace due to steam getting a cut too. Which is why I think they moved to steam myself, personally I'm glad they did so we the Overwatch fanbase can finally hold Blizzard to a publicly accountable beyond making twitter rants and youtube videos as Blizzard is very good at doing the whole "There is no war in Ba sing se" thing and acting like things are hunky dory. Its just unfortunate that its likely not due to them suddenly wanting to have better PR or adding more ways to download it out of the goodness of their hearts.
Overwatch 2 failed on steam because people are done with Blizzard's bullshit and rightfully so. Just sucks one of my favorite games is the joke of the gaming community and its ran by a super shitty company while what people who still play hope to god they get their shit together and get some nasty Stockholm syndrome alongside the shitty actions blizzard are responsible for. Hopefully being on the biggest PC game's marketplace with an Overwhelmingly Negative review on it will get those higherups to kick their head into gear but that's like hoping your cat will suddenly like taking a bath and I don't foresee the game getting better. I just hope I'm wrong and that I didn't waste 2k hours of my life each for TF2 and OW as both are seriously neglected and won't get any better because both companies don't feel like they have to try anymore..

I prefer TF2, but there are some things we need to consider. For one, by our best estimates there are roundabout 30k bots in TF2 24/7 as determined by mastercoms' tool. I don't know why and how that makes sense but that appears to be the case. So when TF2 reports 100k players, it's actually 70k.
The other thing is that OW2 is still on BattleNet and we have no idea how many people play it on BattleNet vs Steam. Blizzard doesn't reveal any data at all. There are some shady third-party websites that claim to have a good estimate on the total playercount but they have zero data to work with and they only exist to shove ads in your face, more than half the web pages are taken up by ads

and before you mention consoles, the game is free so the mayority of the playerbase will be on pc, so lets say its a 40/60 spilt between pc and consoles. that means theres 55K on consoles, which is still not even a mile away from TF2's numbers.

fun fact. in overwatch they released it on steam because they wanted to see what people think of the game with steams awsome commenting system when it comes to reviews

@@cliffwalker459 Even if half of TF2's player count was cut to account for bots, that would still put it on par with OW 2, which is pitiful considering TF2 is a 16-year-old game with very poor management.

Someone on one video left me a comment like "There are 23 times more players in overwatch than in your tf2", then I checked how many people are playing at that time in tf2 and overwatch (for overwatch I had to go to some site), in As a result, TF2 has much more online.

Overwatch is comparable to someone running out of fine old wine and using the same bottle, but replacing the wine with rotten disgusting milk that has been sitting in the fridge for thousands of years and no one should be drinking because it is disgusting girdled cheese that is not even drinkable, while passing it off as the same wine it once was by only slightly changing it with food dye that is the same color as the wine that used to be in the bottle. but with OverWatch porn on the other hand they've been able to preserve that bottle before the curdled disgusting milk got in it and regular OverWatch could have done that but didn't.

As much as I hate OW1/2 giving tf2 a little to much credit here. The popularization of f2p, loot boxes and p2w games was without a doubt NOT tf2, thats an insane take, and not really a point towards tf2 but a great point against it if that was the case. If you're curious what game/games actually popularized p2w lootboxes and all these desperate cash grabs, it was actually maplestory an old mmo from Korea in fact the mass introduction of p2w mechanics started earlier with other Korean games being introduced in the west. So this entire part of the video is just verifiably false.
TF2's community IS better than OW, but again a little to much credit here, its not that much better. There are some good points in this video but a lot of is just wrong, saying no one uses bnet as a launcher for OW is again, absolutely a shit take its a bad launcher yeah but masses of people still use it. Steam charts arent indicative of player count for a game with a separate launcher, as much as youd like that to be the case its just not, OW might have less players now than TF2 but if you basing it off of just "HAHA BNET BAD" and steam charts thats not how you come to that conclusion.
OW2 is an absolute garbage fire and TF2 is better than ever right now, but wow this video was just shit take after shit take you try and prove tf2 superiority as a game and in its longevity in the literal worst ways possible, how? Its such an easy win for TF2 right now, youre like blizzard you could have said NOTHING and it wouldve been better than this.
Only things we can agree on are Blizzard is shit, the game aged like garbage and OW2 is an obvious cash grab thats dying and being milked. Everything else unironically sounded like the ravings of a fan boy who wanted to jump on the ow2 bad bandwagon. You even ended up listing this under OW2 instead of TF2 lol now thats just sad. Extra points because I enjoy TF2 more and you still made me argue in favor or OW, nice job.
