Its a brainwashed standard, monopoly regime. Who gave the authority to make nVidia as a standard ? If you goto your local Microcenter or any best buy they easily spell out Intel and nVidia and if you challenge them they go all crazy nuts. End of the day they want some crazy fool to buy some crazy stuffs. Only the real Engineer would know the value of AMD powering from World's top Super Computer to gaming consoles. Being able to access both DLSS and FSR leaves things wide open. Or I could just do native resolution and DLAA. And I would never use frame generation but that’s there for those who do. Important factor that you missed with AMD, for Linux gamers as small as that percentage of gamers is, AMD graphics cards essentially get driver updates way past their usable age. There are experimental projects underway right now for the HD 5000 and the HD 6000 to get Vulcan support and it's expected to be done by October. The ATI rage got a performance boost a couple years ago and the the x300 and whatever series that came from in 2004-2005 got substantial performance boost recently as well. And obviously you can do the math for how old and out of date those graphics cards are yet the community continues to support them. Maybe my wording could have been better; "gives gamers more of a choice" might have been more suited. However, I do feel there are way too many variables to decide if a specific card has better performance to currency. In general, I would say that for modern, high-graphics-demanding games, Nvidia still has an edge.
Keep in mind that I'm someone who wants AMD to succeed, but taking for example, the FSR 3 technology, it's a big step forward for AMD, but only plays catch up to bring them in line with DLSS 3 (but still with slightly less detail). It's great, but Nvidia pulled ahead again right away with DLSS 3.5, using AI upscaling to improve framerates.
However, I will note that AMD's ray tracing is beginning to catch up with Nvidia's. There are, of course, many more variables, but this reply is getting long, so I'll leave it there.@@MarkLikesCoffee860

Nvidia is also more preferred in the productive and artistic side of things like 3D modellers, streaming and whatnot. Rarely have I seen AMD mentioned or widely used in those aspects. Obviously they should work since it's also a graphics card. I'm just not sure if it's optimized for those use cases.

@@Deathisi Yes I agree 100%. Raytracing and DLSS are great features that give Nvidia a big edge. However, Nvidia have only had those two features since the RTX 2080 was released in September 20, 2018. Before that date, Nvidia's market share was 81.2% and raytracing/DLSS didn't exist. The majority of gamers chose the GTX 1060 which didn't have raytracing and didn't have DLSS. The GTX 1060 also only had 6Gb VRAM. The RX 480 was faster and had 8Gb VRAM. This proves it's not the extra features that caused Nvidia's market share to get so big. Gamers had the choice of more VRAM, a higher framerate without losing any features and they still chose Nvidia.

The thing with Nvidia isn't really their marketing that makes it so common among PC users. I would say it's more the influencers and people you interact with on a daily basis. Most streamers and RUclipsrs use Nvidia cards and apple phones. Most of my friends even use Nvidia cards and of course have apple phones. Like apple Nvidia is able to capitalize on being the default choice for people. The reason I went with Nvidia 2 years ago was because I didn't know anything about AMD cards. So that's why AMD has a big disadvantage and Intel has an even bigger disadvantage. Since a lot of people don't even know that they exist

AMD have got to start marketing their products better because the performance and value is already there! They're doing a lot of the tough ground work pretty well, they've got a good product at a good price, but it seems the marketing department just... don't know how to leverage that? Edit: I mostly dabble with these programs to experiment as a maker and only engage in solidwork, solidcam, mastercam and a couple of electronic design softwares for work. My issue stems not from professionals not using them but from gamers being shunned away from them due to a seeming lack of compatibility which most often would not be an issue for someone who merely wants to experiment with creative outlets, which even then would be a minority of users.

Define issue? For some of us, a blender render taking 30 minutes instead of 10 would be an issue. When your GPU is getting beaten by an older entry level Nvidia card in the benchmarks, that would be an issue (at least for most productivity users). Having vray refuse to open, or After Effects crash, these would also be issues. Getting artifacts when building certain lighting situations in Unreal, or being locked out of certain features, these are issues. The complaints about AMD and productivity are real and legitimate.
Obviously it will depend on the user, and their workflow but even at the bare minimum, unnecessarily long render times that get beaten by older gen entry level hardware is not exactly something to be ok with.

The most gpu intensive task I believe would be assemblies where the gpu handles the rendering of, in some instances thousands of complex geometries and their interactions, should you use solidworks motion.
I'm not trying to say that AMD is equal or better than Nvidia in terms of professional workloads support, and I do believe that Nvidia's GPUs, especially their professional GPUs are far more reliable. I just don't like how AMD's lacking professional drivers are pushed as a reason for the average person or gamer not to buy them because even if you do like to dabble in modeling or cad or rendering or video editing, a Radeon gpu will most likely be sufficient.

My friends just don't know how the numbers convert over, going from rx580 to 5700 was super confusing to them, and they really didn't wanna look up benchmarks. AMD/Radeon has had a reputation for power hungry card , and the 40 series is significantly more power efficient over last gen. Even though the 4000 series is quite more expensive, the savings in your power bill counts for something in the long run, ntm the cooler a card runs the longer it generally lasts. I went for a 4070 over a 7700xt, Once I get over that 250W mark for my gpu, my pc becomes more of a space heater for my room. Vancouver has super cheap power, maybe the cheapest in the world, but still over 2-3 years the card will save you 300-500$ in electricity. So between now and your next gpu upgrade, you'll make half the price of the 4070 back in savings. And I'm only talking about the difference in power, not total power usage.(All numbers done in CAD). My 5700xt ran at 88 degrees, my 4070 runs at 60-70 degrees max.

They do seem to keep dropping the ball on initial pricing. That's why I got an AMD card second hand on ebay. The liquid cooled 6800 XT that Asus made is a monster of a gpu. Like if I didn't have the stats on my screen I don't know if I could tell the difference between it and the 4090 (at 1440p), because the only difference in the maxed out settings is that RT is disabled for my 6800. I don't really give a shit about RT though. Maybe when I graduate to 4k it'll be different. Point is that on ebay people want to get what they paid for it, so they initially price over like $1200, then you just wait it out until it inevitably drops below $550 and you get a monster gpu for what feels like a fair price. The LC editions of their 6000 series are tremendous options if you can fit them in your case, and quiet as hell.

I've always been a perform per dollar kind of guy, and when I was on the market every equivalent radeon card was better priced than the competition. Now it's even worse.
I got this card at half of the market price of a 4080 at the time, and I haven't had a single crash. The only issues I had so far was the adrenaline version from September 2023 to around January didn't play well with my custom resolutions. I just reverted to the last stable patch, and waited for a version that was working correctly.

Runs smoothly in every game, with the latest driver, a bit of undervolting and overclocking, has pretty much passed the RTX 3070 performance in most games (I'm using the strix model which has factory oc). And the UI is really friendly considering a minimum knowledge on GPU optimization.
The stigma towards AMD comes much from the driver issues they had back there and the fact that Nvidia really has a strong marketing. Even knowing that most os AMD GPUs are pair to pair with Nvidia, just the "GeForce RTX" brand is enough to convince the avenger consumer.

Volume will hit capacity at some point, but more importantly, they are a business. They want to make money. They want money to reinvest in themselves. They want to grow their R&D, their marketing, their sales, their other divisions.
Asking for that price is asking for competitive prices at the expense of the company's future. Look what happened about 10 years ago? When they were selling so cheap, so competitive that they were unable to spend enough time and money in R&D and almost disappeared from the market.
I mean... C'mon people. I also would LIKE all those top end cards to be much MUCH cheaper, but 799$ for a flagship product when the competitor, market leader, most powerful brainwasher goes for 1599$? If they didn't sell at 1600+ USD, it'd be one thing, but they do.

Trying to figure out the difference between a 4050/60/70/90, as well as all the super and Ti variants, and then the vram differences and different manufacturers and variation for each GPU. It’s dense as hell and you have to put in a decent amount of research just to figure out what’s best for you. Then you find out that there’s a whole other brand with an equally large and obtuse selection of GPUs. I think for most, it’s just simpler to stick with the most popular brand, and the most popular products they produce.

What I've found in that time frame is that the cards last longer, physically, and play longer in terms of how long you can go before you're no longer able to play games with smooth frame rates because amd, driver issues aside - does *update* their drivers for older hardware. I have an 11 year old computer that I can still play destiny 2 on, because it has a pair of over clocked Sapphire Radeon R9 270X's running in crossfire. I assembled this computer in 2013... it's running on DDR3-1866MHz, now - it has a lot of that ram mind you (32gb), but still - it's ddr3. 11 year old hardware. I’ve been building now for 12 years. I have worked with both AMD and NVIDIA over the years starting with the GTX 500 series and HD 7000 series. Every NVIDIA card I’ve had has just worked regardless of partner card or reference.
Maybe it’s bad luck, but every reference or partner card from AMD from HD 7870, R9 270 to RX 5700 XT have either run insanely hot, had crazy coil whine or just straight up failed after a short period of time. Everything at stock. The drivers originally were garbage up until the RX 200-300 series, too. Constant rollbacks because something new came out and hosed performance or broke something.
I’ve either owned or built with a GTX 550, 570, 660 ti, 770, 1660 ti, RTX 2060 super and now RTX 3070. I’ve used reference, EVGA (rip), ASUS, MSI, and Zotac. Never an issue with the cards, never an issue with drivers. I’ve literally never had to do a rollback on NVIDIA drivers not one time, ever.
Yes, NVIDIA has become lazy and it’s minimal gains at massive price increases lately. But in my experience, it just works. I desperately want to have options in the graphics card space, but I’ve been burned too many times. I love AMD for what they’re doing in the CPU space and that I can use freesync with my NVIDIA card so I don’t have to pay NVIDIA tax for a gsync monitor. But it’ll be awhile before I trust their graphics cards again.

The encoders part is largely why I don't have amd today. Made a big difference in editing workflow for my case.

I've purchased ATI/AMD video cards twice in my life (I've been building PCs since 1997). Both times gave me such headaches I've said "Never again". Yeah, driver issues were part of that headache but even ignoring that, one of my cards was a lemon with constant crashes, while the other lasted just over a year (coincidentally 2 months out of warranty). I'm sure their newer cards are more reliable, better drivers, etc. But I've never had any issues with the 7 or 8 NVIDIA cards I've owned. That's why I keep buying them.

I bought an refurbished AMD 8go 580, black screen one week before end of warranty, a friend gave me one nvidia 970 that already live a good life, I played a lot and no problems, honestly im hesitant to buy AMD again

@@flowinnature8235 Buying it Refurbished is the issue. That's already taking a chance that it'll not work as it was meant. This goes for the used market on top. You can't really pin the blame on AMD or Nvidia when you buy used or refurbished. Especially when you don't know exactly what the gpu went through before you got a hold of it. And yes, this means you can't always trust your friends when you buy from them. People will lie to sell their old cards, to upgrade. It's happened to many people already, and no one is special in this regard.

I think the main concern is software and driver optimization rather than actual hardware performance. Doesn't matter how powerful the hardware is if it hasn't been well optimized on the software side to run well with games. When I built my first pc, my concern was somewhat validated when it seemed like my friend, who built a pc at the same time with an amd card, was struggling with some games it wasn't well optimized for. That said, these days, I think that has changed a bit and now I took a chance, I'm building a new more budget pc and went with an amd card. Wish me luck!

I've been on team red for my last three cards because of the price, freesync monitors cost way less than gsync, and I don't have to log into an account to update drivers and tweak settings. quality of life stuff.

NVIDIA cards support freesync monitors as well, not only GSYNC. You also don’t need to log in to update drivers or tweak settings with the new NVIDIA app.

@@TheOneAndOnlySame I have used multiple Freesync monitors from LG, Samsung and Lenovo with an RTX 4080 Super and two 4090 cards on three different PCs. Please check if FreeSync has been enabled in your monitor's menu (I had to turn this feature on in my Lenovo monitor's own built-in menu system first), then the graphics card may autodetect it, or you may be able to force the feature on.
Open the NVIDIA Control Panel app, click on "Manage 3D settings," then click the "Monitor Technology" drop-down and choose "G-SYNC Compatible". In the Control Panel’s sidebar, click on "Set up G-SYNC" (under Display). For your FreeSync monitor, tick the "Enable G-SYNC," "G-SYNC Compatible" and "Enable settings for the selected display" model checkboxes. When you’re done, click "Apply".
If it still doesn't work, then your particular make and model of Freesync monitor may not be supported, but there are many Freesync monitors which are compatible and do work correctly with NVIDIA RTX cards. NVIDIA maintains a list of compatible monitors and Freesync monitors are listed as "GSYNC compatible" monitors, search Google for "nvidia list of compatible freesync monitors" and you'll find it.
