- After ten years since closing for good and the subsequent storing of the Fry model railway's assets we now see a brand new Fry model railway once again return to it's hometown of Malahide after a ten year absence.
Funded by Fingal County Council, the new layout was constructed and the former Casino house in Malahide where it has since become a huge tourist attraction to the area.
There are also some new welcome additions to the new layout including Murphy Models loco's and Irish Freight Models wagons.
The New Layout has four separate seances, Dublin City, Malahide Station, Bray Head and Mallow Station.
There are also loads of other assets and railway memorabilia on display and I would highly encourage a visit to this wonderful museum.
Also apologize about the noise of the kids in the clips, this is a huge attraction for families.

As Mike Keogh said , its not Cyril Fry's model railway. The current model is not a shadow of the original that was on display in Malahide Castle. I was on a welding course in "The Works" in 1984 and Tommy, lovely man, would often come up the road with a couple of apprentices carrying some part of the layout. The best was the B&I car ferry ,made of sheet aluminium. The Dart carriages, all hand built would almost do a circuit of the track on a single push. Theres no sign of the Pidgeon House Power Station which was a work of art. Tommy Tighe was a mine of information and I spent many a sneaky visit to the old assembly hall where he was operating from.
Where is all the rolling stock and other items made by Tommy and the lads? It deserves to be on display too. A work colleague of mine served his apprenticeship in CIE at "The Works". He spent 3 months with Tommy and maintained he learnt more in those 3 months than the rest of the apprenticeship.
I remember going to Leinster Models in Monk Place as a child with my father. A tiny triangular shaped shop always busy and full of locos and stock in the glass cases. If I'm correct it was from the collection of men who gathered there to talk trains, that the "Model Railway Society of Ireland" MRSI was formed. At least that's what the father told me , he being one of the founding members.
I was lucky to see the fruits of Tommy's labour in Malahide , its time it was on display again.
Interesting why didn’t they allow the old railway back
The models you refer to are in storage, and arrangements will be made for them to be seen again, though probably on a different site. Some of Fry's actual models (his models of English rolling stock) are also in storage, and will eventually also be displayed, hopefully in the Casino.
Yeh was disappointed pluss its oo gague frys models were 0 gauge big difference all new batchman locos and rolling stock
looks amazing. would love to visit it some day.
Excellent capture
Thank you!
Nice to see it up and running again
Definitely needs some fresh locos on the running 00 Gauge (MkIII and an 071, A 29000 DMU, A DART) and a MK4 DVT, great to see it’s back but no doubt it’ll take time to get back to where it was 11 years ago.
great filming and modeling
I was at the event during the midterm.
Fantastic Footage Stephen!😃.
Nice Irish Railroad. PEACE FROM OVER SEAS UNITED STATES
Great modelling, shame about the operation though :(
The original layout at Malahide - although the staff were horrible and unfriendly frustrated Stasi types - was far superior to this. Now I understand the present limitations and so on. The Bray Head section looks good, but the rest is very sterile and has little or no charm. It's good, but not good enough and it's not Cyril Fry.
I vaguely remember the old one
Why is the mk4 set going wrong line backwards lol😁
hello
