I guess I’ll just say it…Last night I cried out to God asking to feel something from him. I felt like I had been pursuing him more than ever lately and praying for more intimacy and trying to worship him in my actions and choose the godly route to everyday things than my own personal route while also studying scripture. I looked up on reddit to see how people describe the Holy spirit and it seems like everyone is getting this amazing feeling and stuff and I feel like I haven’t been getting any of it…I asked the lord to lay his hand upon me (I don’t do this often and I feel like it’s cliche) I was still and very quiet. Nothing insane happened or nothing like a feeling of an overwhelming presence. Honestly all I felt was the slightest tingle in my back. Could have been God. Could have been my brain. But like what are the chances of this video showing up the day right after? I just got out of work and asked God to help me see the signs he’s giving me. May sound crazy. But I’m convinced this video is one. And honestly it’s encouraging and a bit of a relief. I know I shouldn’t try to always get something out of the lord but I was reminded of “asketh and you shall receiveth” so last night I just wanted a tangible feeling from him. Anything. Literally just once I wanna know for sure it’s him and not my brain. Literally nothing wrong in my life either so maybe I’m being greedy asking these things. You honestly seem very wise and I’d really appreciate your input on it or maybe if that’s been relatable for you in the past
@stormraiders1172, what an incredible testimony! We believe God is teaching you to tap into the faith He's given you, going beyond feelings. We are tremendously encouraged that the Lord used this specific video to speak to you. It really is not a coincidence. We are committing to pray for you that the Lord will continue to give you strong faith and that your relationship with Him will be ever so strong! "Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." Philippians 1:6
Thank you for reaching out! Let me say up front you are on the right path in your pursuit for the Lord, as you have expressed you want to know Him more! Your lifestyle in pursuing more intimacy with the Lord by seeking to worship him with your actions and choosing the godly route vs. your own route as seen through the scriptures, is highly honourable and pleasing to the Lord! If only more people had this same heart and attitude I believe the world could be a different place! You mentioned ask and you shall receive, the other part of this passage goes "seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you." Matt 7:7-8 NKJV the verbs ask, seek, and knock are implied from the original Greek that it is a continuous asking, seeking and knocking. So my encouragement to you is ask and keep on asking, seek and keep on seeking, knock and keep on knocking. In terms of seeking a feeling, I would caution putting too much emphasis on the "feeling" as mentioned in the video, when you base your faith on feelings it is really basing your faith on emotion, which has its roots or foundation based on what we see, feel or experience. God is looking for Faith in his followers who believe without the evidence of being able to see or feel it. Which from what I hear in this comment is you have this faith, you have this belief otherwise you wouldn't be striving to know God by worshipping him in your actions and choosing His ways over your ways. Continue the path you are on, and I know God will give you those "God encounters" or that sense of "knowing His presence" it will come when the time is right! For me those moment came with time, I like yourself, started out reading God's word, and doing my best to live out what I was finding in scripture, for example not complaining, or grumbling, loving my neighbour, walking out the definition we find in scripture to walk in love toward others, walking in forgiveness ect.. When God's word changes our attitudes and actions, that is what God is looking for! The feelings, and the presence of the Lord may or may not come in the future, but will you still serve the Lord even if you don't have that? Will you still do the right things by honouring His Word that He has given us? That is the greater question. Stay the course in following Jesus, it is a wonderful life long journey filled with new experiences around every corner! Keep your eyes on Jesus and don't get hung up on the feelings. I would also encourage learn about worshipping the Lord with music, good solid worship songs, may unlock a new experience when it comes to feeling the presence of God, but again don't go after the feeling, go after Giving God your heart through worship in a new way with song through music! That has been an incredible door that opened up experiencing God in new ways in my life! Blessings!
