This really is a great money saver. For me, it's even easier to pour the liquid into a spray bottle, and spray it on a paper towel until it's pretty wet , and then wipe things down. Then I also use it to spray directly on things like the toilet.
Hey girl! When you add additional components to alcohol it actually reduces the concentration level in the final product. So you start out with 70% but adding the other stuff lowers that amount and drops it to a lower level that doesn't disinfect. There are sanitizer calculators online and Lab Science Beauty Muffin has a detailed video on how to properly formulate a disinfect/sanitizer. Stay safe y'all. ♥️
Thank you for sharing this video by Lab Muffin Beauty Science. It was really informative. There was a ton of stuff that I did not know! I posted it on my FB wall to share.
I wish more people understood that when you add stuff to rubbing alcohol you're diluting it and so you lose potency and possibly the power to kill viruses and bacteria depending on what percentage of alcohol you start with and how much liquid you add. Too much misinformation is spread.
Thank you for the information. However, this is just what I do for daily touch ups. I use something else for disinfecting and doing a thorough cleaning
Pro tip for DIY disinfecting wipes -- Dollar Tree sells 'swiffer' mop pads (20 - $1). You can re-use an empty wipes container, put a packet of the mop pads in the jug, pour in about 2tb of liquid Lysol spray (meant to be used on kitchen surfaces) or the Lysol liquid that DT sells in a small bottle which is meant for mopping floors - both disinfect very well., but you can add a bit of 70% alcohol if you want. I love the mop wipes because they are larger and thicker than the 'real' disinfecting wipes. Prices have gone up on the 'real' wipes (stores are just now starting to stock a few again in south FL) -- $5.15/jug of 80 wipes. So you can make the mop pad DIY wipes for a $1.15 less for same amount, but to me they last longer because they're bigger. The mop pads hold up better than DIY wipes made from paper towels.
we use the grain alcohol for everything. we have it in a spray bottle and if we go out to eat we used it on the table, silverware, straws, etc...nothing like living with someone is is ocd about germs...lol..but love the video..
A lot of people are saying this too but the to be affective the FINAL percentage needs to be at least 70% alcohol so if adding stuff to the isopropyl/ethanol you need a higher percentage of alcohol. Hope this helps :)
I used to make homemade diaper/baby wipes that way, but does NOT include alcohol. I used a baby-friendly soap and baby oil or some other oil like almond or even olive oil. :) Easy peasy and made from things I already had, no other than for the paper towels, no other expense!
Thank you so much for posting this. I've really been missing lysol wipes and this seems like an amazing option. I can't wait to try it out. I hope you are doing well and staying safe. And I hope you have a wonderful week.
I’d be wary about depending on these too much. They might be good for a week or so, but once the alcohol starts evaporating, you might not be getting a great effect. You’re better off just putting a spray nozzle on rubbing alcohol, or, if you’re out and about, fold a few paper towels, put them in a plastic bag, and fill with a few tbsp of whatever disinfectant you use before leaving the house.
So freakin helpful thank you!!! I’m allergic to regular Lysol wipes and Clorox wipes for some reason I break out in hives very easily. Now I can make it myself!
I have been allergic to lysol since I was a small child. That stuff makes my throat close up!!!! I found a spray bottle with vinegar and water and a drop or two of dawn works just as well
Here’s the problem. The solution in the wipes needs to be 70% or higher alcohol. If you use 1.75 cups 70% alcohol and .25 cup water, it is now only 61% alcohol. You need to use 1.75 cups 90% alcohol and .25 cups water- then solution about 78% alcohol
Good tutorial. Lately my local Dollar Tree has their disinfecting wipes back in stock so I'm good for now but this will come in handy when they run out again 🙂
Nooooooooooo! Don't wash your rags soaked in rubbing alcohol in the washing machine as the flammable liquids can ignite. If you must do that then make sure the flammable rags are cured for at least 24 hours outside where if they ignite from spontaneous combustion there's no place to catch fire. Since that's unlikely where most people live I just wouldn't recommend that. :( It's better to just use paper towels for something like this - it's less harmful to the environment and others than a house fire would be.❤️
There is a possibility that the plastic might break down, plastic not designed to hold certain products can become porous over time. Glass would be a nice option with caution being certain to keep on a non slip surface, etc.
Thank you for this! It has been hard to find wipes on my store shelves too. I have Crohn's disease and retroperitneal nonhodgkins lymphoma which both of these effect my immune system so disinfecting is so important and crucial for me. Now because of you I can make some!
If killing viruses is important to you, please use a higher alcohol content rubbing alcohol and research for a better recipe. This recipe dilutes the alcohol to less than 70% and will not be enough to kill viruses. It can kill some bacteria but will still be less effective than a store bought disenfectant.
I like using bleach with water in a spray bottle . use a white cloth or paper towel. Use that every time to disinfect cheaper for me. Lasts longer too. In my opinion. Love your videos
I have made the same thing! Only thing I did different was I used the clear tall square containers with the purple snap top lid from the dollar tree. Oh and Viva brand paper towels. They hold up very well especially of you're cleaning the stove. 😏 If you have Lysol solution you can use that just the same. I have both 🙂.
This is cute! But I think you need a higher alcohol content if you are adding things to it. By adding the soap, you are diluting the alcohol so it's probably more like 60% after adding the soap 😬
Sarah Ruzick do not wash rags with flammable liquids. It can catch fire in your dryer bc the washer cannot wash out the rubbing alcohol. If you just have to use reusable rags then cure them outside for at least 24 hours in a place that won't catch fire from self combustion.
I tried this when do it on a dime did their DIY video . A little tip** buy the thicker paper towels not the cheap thin ones otherwise when you pull them out of the container they fall apart 😉
Love your show. Haven't made it to the end yet, but you are using 70% isopropyl alcohol and then diluting it, ergo it is now less than 70%. In order to make diy we need to use the 91% isopropyl alcohol so its still above 70% after dilution. 👌 ❤ PS You're Awesome 😍
Did you use Dollar Tree paper towel also? I did this with bleach and had trouble getting the paper towel out once saturated. I thought it might be because I used cheap paper towel.
Thank you for this! We won’t be able to buy disinfecting wipes until 2021 around here, I think they’re sending whatever is made to hospitals and other medical places. I hope I can find rubbing alcohol That’s still out of stock everywhere too. We were hit really hard when it began but thankfully it’s under control now
Everclear in college 🤣 While I can’t find alcohol (haven’t really looked really) we have Clorox disinfectant wipes available at most stores we shop at.
Another trip you can also use wash rags and you can reuse them after you wash them. I find using paper towels didnt work for me and even bought the good paper towels
I've seen this before and I think I remember reading that the wipes don't stay effective for super long. So it may be worth checking how long they stay effective for.
Great idea. If you can get them to fit in the used lysol or clorox wipes container, they stay moist for a long time. Even a used baby wipes container (which I use) or a dollar tree wipes container will do. I have even used cheap baby wipes & squeezed out their liquid & added this mixture to them. They work great & are stronger than my cheaper paper towels (I started using costco paper towels recently which are way stronger)
I've tried making the bleach wipes and face wipes from other RUclips videos. They always end growing mould.. I would be interested in seeing if your version remains clean.
I thought if you buy 70% you are not supposed to dilute with anything because then your total wont be 70% alcohol which is the point to kill the virus, you need higher alcohol. When i use 70% i spray directly in my hands as hand sanitizer but if you want to add glicerine or water and oils buy 90%.
You are correct. 70% is fine as is and shouldn't be diluted unless you want to lose its effectiveness. Less than than 70% for sure won't kill viruses and will only kill some bacteria. There's a lot of people misinformed.
This really is a great money saver.
For me, it's even easier to pour the liquid into a spray bottle, and spray it on a paper towel until it's pretty wet , and then wipe things down.
Then I also use it to spray directly on things like the toilet.
Won't the spray make you breathe it as the droplets will get into the air also?

Was about to jump on here to say this.
Yesss!! I just made a comment with something similar. The idea is great! But would be perfect with higher alcohol
I wish more people understood that when you add stuff to rubbing alcohol you're diluting it and so you lose potency and possibly the power to kill viruses and bacteria depending on what percentage of alcohol you start with and how much liquid you add. Too much misinformation is spread.

I did this... Just used my old Lysol wipe container. Love it. Bet yours smell good! TFS.
Nothin like a simple useful video under 5 minutes. Thank you!!!!! 💕
I have made these twice! Great idea!
we use the grain alcohol for everything. we have it in a spray bottle and if we go out to eat we used it on the table, silverware, straws, etc...nothing like living with someone is is ocd about germs...lol..but love the video..
Awesome! Thanks, Kallie!

Vinegar doesn't kill viruses, though
Adding liquid to rubbing alcohol dilutes it so you're not actually getting a strong enough percentage to kill viruses or bacteria.
Use citric acid based cleaner like solu-mel. It disinfects too and u can use that to make wipes.
Glad it worked for you. All my paper towels just can out a little at a time.
Love your stir stick there 🔪😉
Thank you for this. The easiest one I’ve seen yet. I appreciate it. God Bless. Get your coffee.
Yes the easiest one I’ve seen
Omg genius!! I still cannot find wipes- now I will just make mine!! Thanks!!
I think she said add water only for 90% alcohol. I made mine with pure 70%(no water) then added 2 tbsp dish soap.
I did this and it came out amazing thanks for the diy
Good tutorial. Lately my local Dollar Tree has their disinfecting wipes back in stock so I'm good for now but this will come in handy when they run out again 🙂
Thanks for the video! I was hesitant to do them, but I guess I can give it a try now
My Mom used a similar technique for baby diaper wipes, but without the alcohol and warm water instead. And I think she used the liquid dish soap too.
Great idea 👍😊
Thank you! I'll be making these for my mom and sister, too!!
I had the same thought today - except to use white ‘shop cloths’ so I can wash & reuse. Thanks for the DIY recipe!

You look radiant today! & always 😁
So simple! This will really help out when in a pinch too! Thank you for sharing! ❤️
Great idea! Thanks for sharing!! I hadn’t seen this!
Can we take a min to admire your makeup 😍😍😍😍
Great idea!
PSA: I made these a month ago and love them. But that container LEAKS. Just keep it upright and you will be fine:)
All containers leak... even the Clorox brand.
There is a possibility that the plastic might break down, plastic not designed to hold certain products can become porous over time. Glass would be a nice option with caution being certain to keep on a non slip surface, etc.

It leaks? Thanks for the heads up
What a fantastic diy. ♥️It.
Thanks for this great idea!
Brilliant, tyfs 💖 Fast, easy, and economical!!
Yessssss thanks Kallie! 😘
Thank you...it's so simple and so useful!!!!
Thank you! I’m going to make some! You’re awesome!

Thank you for sharing this. I’ve half read about making your own but I’m more of a visual kind of girl! I’m going to make this!! Again ... tfs!!
Thank you!!! I have wanted to do this and thought I would need more stuff but you explained it so well. Love your videos Kallie🥰💐
I'm so going to try this. Thank you so much 💜💜
I’m like you as I can’t find the usual. Thanks. I’m gonna make some!❤️👍
Thank you! I have been searching for ways to make these because nobody has them anymore.
I like using bleach with water in a spray bottle . use a white cloth or paper towel. Use that every time to disinfect cheaper for me. Lasts longer too. In my opinion. Love your videos
Thank you so much! Was just thinking of making some
Thank you for a great hack for wipes 😍
Thank you, love all your videos
Thank you so much right on time was up to my last container of lysol wipes 🤣🤣
I have made the same thing! Only thing I did different was I used the clear tall square containers with the purple snap top lid from the dollar tree. Oh and Viva brand paper towels. I cut up old dish towels I wasn't going to use and do something similar (I fold into an old baby wipe plastic tub) wash in a laundry bag and reuse!😊👍

That hunch punch will get ya! good times... good times...
Great DIY...thank you!
Great video! Thanks for sharing 😊
GREAT IDEA THANK YOU , GREAT HELPFUL VIDEO ☕❤✌
👍 good video.
That’s fantastic. Thank you 😊
Omg thank you so much for this video!!!
This is a great tip. Thank you!
I tried this when do it on a dime did their DIY video . A little tip** buy the thicker paper towels not the cheap thin ones otherwise when you pull them out of the container they fall apart 😉
Sweet.. do paper towels need to be a certain brand or strength?
Wow will try thanks
Yes so easy thank you!
I did something like this for markup remover and baby wipes. ( Obviously different ingredients depending on use)
How large is the round container? Looking to purchase from walmart.com! Thanks for the tips
Seriously, that is so simple. Definitely going to make these.
Awesome! Thank you!
Did you use Dollar Tree paper towel also? I did this with bleach and had trouble getting the paper towel out once saturated. I thought it might be because I used cheap paper towel.
Thanks for sharing
I haven't been able to find isopropyl alcohol anywhere! Thanks for the tip on the drinking alcohol and I use drinking loosely lol
Try Walmart.com - they’ve had a 2pk of equate brand available. Just ordered and received last week.
@@FrannyLuvsAll thanks! I'll check em out!
We must have been in that same club and HAVE NOT touched grain alcohol since freshman year in college! 😂 😂 😂
Thank you for this! We won’t be able to buy disinfecting wipes until 2021 around here, I think they’re sending whatever is made to hospitals and other medical places. I hope I can find rubbing alcohol That’s still out of stock everywhere too. We were hit really hard when it began but thankfully it’s under control now
How cool love it
DoItOnADime did the same tutorial several months ago.
Not everybody follows DoItOnADime. BTW quite a few others did too, so even more people get to watch and learn how to make these wipes.
Do it on a dime is fantastic! She always has great tips, and goo info.
Doitonadime used bleach not just alcohol
Everclear in college 🤣
While I can’t find alcohol (haven’t really looked really) we have Clorox disinfectant wipes available at most stores we shop at.
Another trip you can also use wash rags and you can reuse them after you wash them. I find using paper towels didnt work for me and even bought the good paper towels
I just pour alcohol into packs of wipes I buy at the dollar tree and works great?
Such a great idea, I’ll definitely be making this! I haven’t seen Lysol wipes ANYWHERE since the pandemic started!
Awesome 😊 thank you
Love this, thank you!!
Thank you!!
Great video! How long can you store these?
I've seen this before and I think I remember reading that the wipes don't stay effective for super long. So it may be worth checking how long they stay effective for.
stacey Correct
That’s what I researched on net and they are not effective do not kill viruses 🦠
Think I’d have to do a more cloth item. I can’t do wet paper!
I have been looking for an easy DIY disinfectant wipes. Thank you! Where did you get your container from?
Thanks!
Could you also use these other oils:
Tea Tree Oil.
Peppermint Oil. ...
Eucalyptus Oil.
Thanks
Awesome
Does it make stuff sticky when it dries?
Great idea. If you can get them to fit in the used lysol or clorox wipes container, they stay moist for a long time. Even a used baby wipes container (which I use) or a dollar tree wipes container will do. I have even used cheap baby wipes & squeezed out their liquid & added this mixture to them. I've tried making the bleach wipes and face wipes from other RUclips videos. They always end growing mould.. I would be interested in seeing if your version remains clean.
Why not just use straight alcohol? If I could find some.
Because you still want to keep your skin 😉
😆 that's true, however if you use alcohol in a spray bottle and wipe surfaces with paper towel your skin should be fine.

Paper towels usually fall apart????
Thanksso much.
