Yes, it's the challenge cup final which is the final of the cup competition for Rugby League. A sport very popular in the working class towns and cities of Northern England, as well as Australia, New Zealand, Tongo and also South Western France. Interesting history behind it, they split from the Rugby Union over professionalism and the game has now evolved into its own sport with different rules. In my opinion a much more entertaining version of the game.
Well i don´t even like Rugby, this was breathtaking..... tears in my eyes and I stay humble to this great hymn and I cry for this brave woman who has lost so much and still keeps her head high.
Sung sooo beautiful with the true meaning of hymn. The hymn is based on Luke 24:29, part of a post-Resurrection narrative telling the story of Emmaus: “But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.” May our relationship with Christ the sweetest relationship ever abide in us alll
Abide with me, fast falls the eventide The darkness deepens Lord, with me abide When other helpers fail and comforts flee Help of the helpless, oh, abide with me Swift to its close ebbs out life's little day Earth's joys grow dim, its glories pass away Change and decay in all around I see O Thou who changest not, abide with me I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness Where is death's sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies Heaven's morning breaks, and earth's vain shadows flee In life, in death, o Lord, abide with me Abide with me, abide with me
I'm today a 52 year old HKR fan, but now have lived in Birmingham for over 25 years. I was there on this day and Leeds made us look amateur, but this song remains with me. Every time I play this, it brings tears to my eyes. The result is not as important as the taking part!
I was there in 2015. Lizzie certainly brought a different angle on this RL anthem, beautifully sang in such circumstances. It certainly brought tears to my eyes.
This gets me every time. Even all these years later. Just weeks after her husband Danny dies on the field, Lizzie steps on to the field at the biggest occasion in rugby league and sings abide with me with beauty and passion. He would have been so damn proud at this moment
Considering her husband had died from a sudden heart attack not so long for her to stand up and sing this so powerful makes you tingle it’s a powerful song specially for lizzy with so much behind it infront of all those People she’s got the heart of an angel 😇 rip Danny
Recently, a lot of bad luck came to me and my family, and I even had chills, so I thought of suicide. I used to calm my anxiety after looking for videos related to shamanism on RUclips. Then, I overheard the Abide with me, at the funeral of Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg, by chance, and I even found and read Korean lyrics in my mother tongue. I understand her tears a lot. When I die later in future, I strongly believe God will surely show me a bright cross. I will keep my faith for the Eastern Orthodox Church to the end.
John 11.25-26 Jesus said unto her I AM the resurrection and the life he that believes in me though he were dead yet shall he live and whosoever lives and belives in me shall never die believest thou this Amen
It’s flabbergasting that a team hear have Ukraine Colours, good on Leeds without even knowing what was about to be unleashed in 2022, never mind Covid-19
People don't half talk crapola about stuff like this. Brave? Is it raining ice-picks? Is the stadium ablaze? No. What we're seeing is someone lapping up a bit of attention, maybe daring to dream of a burgeoning telly-bod career. She can carry a tune tho, I'll give her that.
I think you'll find that she's viewed as brave given that after the death of her husband, she managed to belt out such a wonderful song.... singing your heart out when you're that heartbroken takes a lot of bravery in my eyes.
Simon Warren She is a professional singer; her husband was a professional rugby player. I think that sooner or later she will sing the opening anthem. The fact that she did it shortly after he passed in the sport was in memory of him...She could still have been taken by grief. For goodness sakes, why do folks like you always have to get it spelled out for you? Connect the dots.
This gets me every single time. The courage of Lizzie, the love of the crowd. It's so beautiful
I was there , I agree with everything you've said . Very emotional moment in the day she was amazing
Yes, what a woman! Gorgeous, strong and full of beauty.
Better than any Super Bowl half time show in the USA. Love this. Seems like a big sporting event.

The lady singing lost her husband who played the game recently before this game
US sports have no soul. It's all about money.
It's basically rugby league's version of the FA Cup final.
Sang this at my dad's funeral, so every time I hear it sung, it brings a tear to my eyes and I start crying. Beautiful song
Isabel Dean was played at my dad's funeral also
Isabel Dean RIP
💟
this still brings tears to my eyes so brave
Such a brave and strong woman, this hymn never fails to bring a tear to my eye!
Well respected too by the crowd. I'm not a rugby fan but their supporters know how to behave themselves. Respect
I was there, everyone was too busy wiping away tears to do anything else 😢

The voice of an Angel. Beautiful.

I was there that day great day but nothing as great and as brave as this lady in tears that day and in tears listening to it now #beautiful
I was there but I had something in my eye. Certainly wasn't crying, no sirree...
I was there too. It was a hugely emotional start to an amazing rugby match. Fond memories.

Sang this at my parents and brothers funeral. For God and Ulster
Saw her interview on Songs of Praise, how she sang Oh Danny Boy without breaking down is beyond me, a great singer & a true professional
I have to say, that was beautifully sung, Thank You 👏🏻
Brings a tear to the eye of even the strongest man😓😢🏴
We love you Lord Jesus
I absolutely adore and respect Lizzie Jones, what a beautiful soul!!! You're an angel
The people in New Zealand are to be commended…. I am so happy that the song “Abide With Me” lives on in people’s hearts… That was fantastic!!!

One of the better renditions of this great hymn at the Rugby League cup final !
Classic cup final song
Considering her husband had died from a sudden heart attack not so long for her to stand up and sing this so powerful makes you tingle it’s a powerful song specially for lizzy with so much behind it infront of all those
People she’s got the heart of an angel 😇 rip Danny
bravest thing ever seen on a rugby pitch.
I agree sir, very brave
Absolutely, heart like a Lion 👏👏👏
May i ask what was brave?
Well Josh, if you don't know or see it then I'll not waste my time.
I asked a polite question. A polite answer would've been nice. However no everyone has manners
Brilliant.
Beautiful!
One of my favourite moments in sports
The most heartbreaking open ceremony I have seen.
Glory to God almighty forever and ever God bless you abundantly dear Sister 🙏🏼

Sad to think now that Rob Burrow was in the tunnel while Lizzie sang so beautifully rip Danny and Rob
Hats off to you!

Now I'm no believer, but love this hymn

This reminds me of when she tought at my primary school
R.I.P Danny
Why did she sing on your rugby pitch?
Was the man on the screen Ms. Lizzie Jones' late husband? May he Rest In Peace. God bless.
Yep, Danny Jones of Keighley Cougars. Passed away earlier that year. This was unbelievable!
Yes, he had an undiagnosed heart condition and collapsed and died while playing in a match in London just a few months before this. 😢
Nice❤
Why cant players in tunnel stand still whilst this going on!
Keeping the muscles loose and stop them from seizing up after the warm up.
❤
Greetings in the name of our Lord sister
4th Oct 2024 Malaysia
should be the national anthem!
If you knew Rugby League at all, you'd know its always 'Abide with Me' for the Challenge Cup Final.
Jonathon86W I think he meant that Abide with me should be the national anthem
I'd prefer a national anthem that doesn't reference religion.
Why it should Not reference religions?
Europe is a Continent with a christian tradition! England also. So it is ok!!!
Yeah cause God Save The Queen doesn't mention religion.
He would of been proud
does anyone know the name of the music right at the beginning is?
Different gravy. X x x
she,s got a good pair of lungs
Charlie sheens apprentice certainly has. Amazing singer
Fact:
This hymn was played by a brass band at the funeral of Abraham Lincoln

Now, we miss the grace from this song...
TRAUTMANN - The keeper 🇩🇪🏴
Why didn't they give Lizzie the trophy
Jesus is my Lord and Saviour
If we Yanks were ever to try this at a super bowl.........
Hard to believe that a sacred hymn would have so much public significance. Sorry, don't know a thing about the event.
fucking awesome
What was the score asking for a friend 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Time to say goodbye
The only english song I love
🥲
Phew....
After Jesus resurrection He walked with, two men,who were grieved, they asked Jesus to abidewith, them --Fastfalls rhe eventide--
Rhinos thinking about silverware...hudgel thinking about money. World's apart.
Hull KR ❤
We need to Abide to Ukraine Now….
It’s flabbergasting that a team hear have Ukraine Colours, good on Leeds without even knowing what was about to be unleashed in 2022, never mind Covid-19

In case anyone's interested, Hull got absolutely battered 50-0
I was at this game and it was a massive rout
Unfortunately it wasn't Hull that were battered
Prefer Hayleys Westenras version. This ladies voice not very strong, doesn't sound right.
Thats cos she is not a professional singer she done it because her husband died i thought she was amazing
probably because she was trying not to cry, you know grieving her late husband.

+Emma Lloyd That's the predictably lazy answer of a two-dimensional twat :) x
Simon Warren literally no need to be rude. Just thought you might benefit from another pov
+Emma Lloyd I threw in a kissy, you're sssuch an ingrate LOL!
