  • Baggio proves to be the match winner in this excellent exhibition of football.
Baresi and Baggio squared off against each other 17 times in their careers, with their personal battle of wits always proving to be tight and engaging affairs. Baggio bagged 6 goals and 3 assists in their encounters and Baresi was his usual magnificent self.

Roberto Bagg10 il Gen10, the purest, most gifted, and most sublime of all fantasistas. Thank you for archiving Italy's most beloved, singular, and illuminative fantasista and fuori classe's presence this way on your channel. Baggio is poetry and art, imagination and geometry, vision and beauty, quality and reality, depth and truth, essence and conscience, cognition and cognizance. Grazie.

I've said it before, and I'll say it once again; people like to say that Baggio wasn't decisive in the scudetto victory that season because he was injured for most of it, but for me that's not the case, as although he wasn't as important as Vialli, he made decisive contributions even without playing a lot, and people make Del Piero to be more decisive than he actually was aside from his great goals against Fiorentina and Lazio. I know that this game was early on in the season, and that Milan didn't actually have a great Serie A campaign, missing out on a European Cup spot, but given how dominant they were in both Europe and Italy over the previous few years - and seeing as they still reached the Champions League that season and went on to win the scudetto with Baggio the next year - for me this victory over Milan, with Baggio's decisive goal with his clever trickery to beat out Costacurta in the air, and his great all-round performance, is what really gave the team the confidence to believe they could finally go all the way this year, which they ultimately did. He deserved more respect from the Juve board, and it's a shame, because if they'd tried to keep him he would have a few more major titles to his name, and might have taken part at Euro 96 and Italy might've done better with him. Although I suppose that he might have still fought for a starting spot with Del Piero, who really flourished in his absence. Nice video, as ususal!

Agreed with that. A real shame Juventus didn't keep him. He deserved better.

@alqasem Yes, his volley against Reggiana from outside the box is one of my favourite goals of his, and was a decisive goal in the victory in their final stretch for the title run, an absolute beauty! They weren't a good side, but it was still a tightly fought match. Plus on top of scoring as many goals as Alex in fewer appearances, Baggio also provided many more assists and scored and created more goals in the UEFA Cup en route to the final. And several of Del Piero's goals were scored once the league had been won as well, whereas Baggio didn't play after they had clinched the title because of his condition leading up to the UEFA Cup final, and due to the tensions with the board. But Del Piero was still young at the time.

@@footballsgreatest2645 I know...plus on top of scoring as many goals in fewer games (plus Baggio didn't play any games once the league had been one, whereas Del Piero did and scored some of his goals then; to be fair he was still young at the time, but Baggio had been through a lot as well), he provided more assists than Del Piero that season as well, and scored and created more in other competitions. He carried a mediocre team for four years, and finally when he had a great team built around him, they ditched him because of his injury struggles, even though he was still the best player on his day at the time. I'm sure under Lippi's training regime he wouldn't have had the fitness problems he had at Milan, as in the last few matches of the season with Juve he was still amazing (like the games against Parma in Serie A and in the UEFA Cup final, or Lazio in the Coppa Italia semi-final, or Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Cup semi-final, among others, or even on his comeback against Foggia, or the match you mentioned against Reggina).

@@jackpuccini3143 I remember that goal vs Reggiana , it was scored on my birthday 15th April. It gave the lead to Juve in the game.

This goal by Baggio is as important as Vidal 's goal vs Juve for Inter this season. Inter has not won the title for years. At the time Juve has not won the title for years and AC Milan were the champions. They were also the European Champions at the time. While Baggio 's goal was as important as Vidal 's, also in this game Baggio's shirt is being pulled by Baresi like the way Lukaku 's shirt was pulled this year in Inter Vs Juve. So Not only did Baggio score he was the main man of Juve. Very unfair to sell him. Juve is the most ungreatfull team.

Do you have the full match? It was one of the rare occasions that Lippi was able to select Peruzzi, Ferrara, Kohler, Sousa, Ravanelli, Vialli and Baggio. Only Deschamps was missing.

Видел ту игру в том сезоне, жесткая борьба, которую решил гений. Баджо после Марадоны самый любимый игоок. Жаль, что Роберто выбрал не ту команду для своего великого таланта. Ювентус всегда дерьмово относился к своим легендам.

an average game of his, but considering milan was so strong back then...not bad, i'd say...
