- This week I took delivery of the Garmin Rally RS200 power pedals! It's taken me a little while to pull the trigger on getting a power meter. In this week's video I go through why it's taken me so long to purchase one and potentially when you should look at getting one yourself! Let me know if you'd like to see a full Garmin Rally RS200 power meter review!

Do you train with a power meter? 🤔
I like your glasses. Which ones are you wearing? I love the video and how you said that it is only if you are serious. Other RUclipsrs tell you that you need one even if you are a weekend warrior.
Dude if you want to buy a power meter, it doesn't matter if your bike is 8 years old or brand new.
What led you to go two-sided and with a pedal solution as opposed to a crankset or crank arm one?
I mean. I’m about to take delivery of a 10 year old Raleigh. Probably gonna put power meters on it.
Edit: I thought these would be like $200 wtf
I got my first road bike June of last year. I got power meter pedals for it six months later. I wish I'd been able to buy them sooner.
Ahh awesome! Hope you're enjoying yours as much as I am!
Would love to see how you are gonna be training outdoors now with power. Im also looking for a power meter, but since I have MTB and road bike, it's gonna get expensive.
You can buy a stages XT PM and switch it between MTB and road bike if you have Shimano on both.
I had that over 5 years before I bought a second.
Awesome I'll film a video about that in future then! If you get rally pedals you can also change the pedal casing and keep the power spindle so no need to buy two brand new power meters :)
How far behind the 1. metatarsal do you place the cleat?
The middle of the cleat at my 1st metatarsal but I do need to go get my current bike fit checked out :)
@@JonnyKibble Yeah. Try the 5. metatarsal instead.
Good old garmin random number generators
i would get one right away if it not too expensive
I have PM since 2006 and in 2010 I already wondered why nobody else has one 😂
Coz they cost more than half of my bike😂
@@hippo71124 Interesting, mine costs 10% and my bike cost 2000 and all the sportive riders I know have bikes costing twice of mine. So to them thats 5%.
haha yeah probable monetary reasons but they are worth it!
@@JonnyKibble I’ll take everyone’s word and save up for a pair haha
@@hippo71124 Single sided is more than enough. There is no real value in double sided.
I have a power meter and if I am to spec a new bike., I will probably do one without a power meter.
Heartrate is by far a better tool to gauge my efforts during training and they literally cost nothing.
Yeah for sure heart rate is definitely a great and much cheaper tool!
Heart rate is very valuable but it isn't a better tool at all. HR is extremely variable as Jonny said in the video. Temperature, hydration, recovery/fatigue all affect how heart rate responds to efforts. Not only that, but the heart takes time to respond to efforts eg, if you're doing 30/30 sec vo2 max intervals it'll take a good 5 - 10 intervals before it gets up to vo2 max rate.
Also, when doing TT's it's invaluable to see average/normalised power at the end of the ride. I've done TT's before where I've got a PR, and on the next TT for the same route it's been 2 mins slower but for more power. If I didn't have a power meter there would be no way to gauge if I was just not on form, losing fitness, or if it were simply the weather conditions. In my case I was able to see that it was down to the weather as my power numbers were much higher.
Another great method is to gauge heart rate drift against power. If over a 2 hr endurance ride your heart rate drifts up by more than 5% against power, then you're either dehydrated, it's very hot, or you need to work more on endurance.
they're incredibly innacurate and overpriced
The garmin you mean ? Yes. I use stages 105 and XT. Good enough and reasonably cheap.
haha good job I haven't just brought them then!
