  • The only two existing clips of Shaolin Nanyuan (Southern Courtyard) Xiaohongquan from Ruan village known on the web. Ruan village Nanyuan sect separated from Shaolin Monastery some 360 years ago.
This section of the set bears close resemblance to the Laojia (old frame) Hongquan set of Luotuoyuan village where it is called Dahongquan, and to the current Xiaohongquan of Shaolin, practiced everywhere (Meaning the current Xiaohongquan is likely Nanyuan, as the Xiyuan [Western Courtyard] Xiaohongquan of Mogou village is quite different, although it follows the same pattern, having separated some 500 years ago).
In Ruan village, Xiaohongquan has four roads, as does the current Xiaohongquan, while the Luotuoyuan version appears to be a combination of the four roads condensed into one set. This is road 1. Note the focus on tiaobu (leaping steps) representative of the style's entrance strategy.

No, this just shows a small section, but I was amazed to even come across it online. You can see it is the same opening section as the common Xiaohongquan, from the first turn to the right, until danbian.
