How a franchise player like him is not in the HOF is beyond me. If Pete Maravich makes the hall, whom I love, then World B. Free should be in there.

@@apex_prowler95 believe it or not they have similar stats and Free finished with more career points. He did Play 3 seasons longer but Free was a role player his last 2 seasons so basically they both played 11 seasons but Free actually went bucket for bucket with him during that Same length of time and Free averaged over 22 nine straight seasons. Not even Pete did that. If he retired after his 11th season his career average would have been around 24 ppg. He's arguably the best player in the history of the league not in the hall of fame besides Mark Aguirre and maybe Tom Chambers but imo he's better than both. He was more talented overall just not a team guy but was a scoring machine

@Darnell Bush Darnell I truly think the game pre-Michael Jordan doesn't get discussed enough. There are hours of footage available yet for kids who grew up with Space Jam or beyond, it's all a big mystery. Especially since the attitude towards players of that era was that they weren't as good as what we have today. On top of that, all the legacy talk and "who is on the Mount Rushmore of basketball" leaves so many great players behind. It's great to have a series that speaks on the ups and the downs of an athletes career, what made their games stand out, what life was like for them during this period. 😀

This may seem like a reach, but if you study the tape, at his best w the Clippers and Warriors, Free is just a shade below the great Steph Curry, who is in a league of his own. Free could do it all. Long range, mid range, and able to post up at 6'2". He could score in a half court set offense, off the break, and creating his own shot. This guy was unstoppable and as physically dominant as it gets. He had the ability to use speed and strength to create space and rise up to get off his jumper. You had to foul him, he would score, or he would collapse the defense and he would dish off. He could play point, shooting guard, and small forward. Look at him body up against Kareem. If he had been coached by Hubie or Riley, they would have put the right pieces around him to build a winning team. He's not a gunner or selfish. I want him shooting a lot bc he's a sure thing. He was way ahead of his time. Free needs to be acknowledged as a great talent who developed a complete game. Automatic. As a defender, you can't do a thing with him. Like Bernard King in that respect. He may look flamboyant, but when you break down his game, he is flat out sound. The source of the problem once he left Philly was being on bad teams and not getting paid right. When you have a player who can break down his defender at will, you can build a winner around that.

It’s is however a very close knit community. As an outsider if your respectful, mind your business and most importantly show no fear, you will be embraced. There's the story of Free and John Drew being invited to a college All-Star game that had just about every big named ACC player from that era including David Thompson and Tom Burleson from NC State, Bobby Jones from UNC, Tom McMillan, Len Elmore and John Lucas from Maryland.
Nobody knew who Free and Drew were before the game but they both ended up being the high scorers for their respective teams. Free ended up with 35 points despite playing only around 20 minutes as he came off the bench to sub in for Thompson. They ended up putting Bobby Jones on him, a 6-9 player known for his defensive prowess but by that time Free was on fire and he torched the UNC stat.
It put both Drew and Free on the map and vaulted them both into becoming 2nd round picks in 74 and 75.
