I just got a brother drum carder. It was used, so it came already assembled. My handle takes tons of effort to turn--any idea why it doesn't move with ease the way yours does?
It sounds like it might be out of adjustment. I will email you instructions how to adjust it properly and we will see if that helps.
I'm having trouble keeping my roving together as I approach and pass the place where I first break the fiber. Do you have any tips to keep this from happening?

I recently purchased a used Brother standard drum carder. When I try to remove a batt, the weight of the handle causes the drum to roll around so that the handle is in the downward position. Is there anyway I can prevent this from happening so that I can remove the batt smoothly and evenly?
If you have the brush attachment that will keep the drum from moving if the brush is pushed down onto the drum.
I like spinning from the batt and rolag better than spinning from roving
What is the best TPI for the most variety of wools and And allowing you to add some fantasy (gold thread, thread with sequins)?
A 72tpi is good for a wide variety of fiber especially if you are starting out but the 90tpi is a good option too.

Maybe you can help? Just got a Baby Brother Drumcarder today. When I feed in a small amount of fiber it wraps around the licker drum and NOT the main drum. I have to play with the fiber, pulling it off the licker drum and manually putting it on the main drum but even after that, it tends to wrap around the licker. I wondered if the teeth from the licker are too far from the teeth of the main drum? But since I just got it. . . I did not adjust the distance. The instructions say that the distance should be no greater than a credit card width apart, and it should be correct since I just got it. So what is going on?

Here are some suggestions,
You could try hand painting the fiber directly onto the large drum and we have some RUclips videos that help explain that technique.
Fiber is being fed into the drum carder in pieces that are too thick…….make sure they are very thin bits, thin enough to read the newspaper through.
Licker in is to close or to far away from the big drum.
Fine fiber naturally tends to build up on the licker in somewhat……some fibers build up more than others…..let it build up and keep carding, just leave the fiberon the licker in and see if it helps. The licker in is meant to transfer the fiber to the big drum as well as take out nepps, second cuts, etc. If the fiber you are working with is free of the “junk” you don’t want in the batt anyway then this is an option. You can clean it off the licker in later and add it directly to the big drum
Tease the fiber very well.
Don't hold back on the fiber as it is feeding into the carder.
If the humidity is very low, try spritzing the fiber with a weak solution of water & fabric softener to reduce static electricity. I hope this helps... You could email us too. info@brotherdrumcarder.com

This is a 72tpi carder. A good choice for a wide variety of fibers.
Where can I find the metal funnel shaped tool you are using as a diz?
In the cake section at any craft store or walmart. They are the tips confectioners use to decorate cakes with frosting. Screenshot a picture, save it to your phone, then show it to a store attendant so they can help you.
I'm guessing she's using a Wilton #7 piping tip.

How far apart should the two drums be?
They should be as close as possible without teeth touching or meshing into each other.
@@brotherdrumcarder How do you know if your drums are too far apart? The licker-in on my LIttle Brother motorized drum carder retains a lot of fiber. I see your licker in does not retain fiber.
@@barbararickman8543 The drums should be as close as possible without the teeth touching. Sometimes when working with certain fibers you would want to adjust the drums further apart.
