- Finally, here's the comparison video I've been planning for about 2 months now. This video will be comparing the performance times of the Stock VF48 turbo on the STi vs. the Billet Compressor Wheel VF48 with an External Wastegate setup. The results were a lot bigger than I had originally expected. The after test was actually even done on the lower boost setting than the before test. Either way hope you enjoyed this Dragy comparison test of the stock STi turbo against a hybrid turbo setup with EWG.

What power were you making on the stock vf48? Also with you comparison runs, was there a difference in time of day / ambient temperature between the stock vf48 vs billet runs?
The time, ambient temp and humidity were roughly the same before and after. With the old setup on the medium boost setting (1.2 bar tapering to 0.8) shown in the video, it made around 270whp. on the new setup on wastegate pressure (0.8 bar) it made around ~250whp but more importantly spooled 400 ish rpm earlier, and the powerband at the top kept increasing till redline thanks to the EWG. Previously the powerband started to drop past 6300rpm
@@JCMediaYTJust curious. So you made less power but spooked quicker? Wondering what the outcome would be if just the billet wheel was put in a vf48 but with no ewg. Same hp but quicker spool?
@@anthonymarquez4563 It made less power because it was on much lower boost (0.4 bar less). With the latest tune we changed to a 1 bar wastegate spring and it made 280whp, and at 1.3 bar it made around 330. I'd say part of it is because the ewg allowed the boost stay consistent throughout the rpm range, whereas with the IWG, it would drop by almost half by redline. I think changing just the billet wheel would make it spool quicker but wouldn't have much difference up top (assuming it has a similar blade wheel design). It might net a slight power increase though, I'm not sure.
How fare do you think you could push the peak power and when does it hit full boost
currently im at 350whp @1.35 bar, planning to try push 1.5 soon. full boost hits before 4200rpm
Have you done any tuning after changing the billet wheel?
yes, retuning was necessary
is the billet wheel the same size or is it like a 16/18g wheel with larger compressor housing to fit the billet wheel. also has the turbo been ported. 38mm or 40mm ewg?
it's the same wheel size, just ported the inlet by a tiny bit to make sure the clearances are safe and it's a 45mm ewg from turbosmart
Just curious, why you have confidence on that ebay turbo?
Because not everything on eBay is garbage, it's just that it's really easy to sell crappy products there, causing that negative connotation of eBay products. I'd say as long as you find a reputable company with good reviews, eBay parts are fine and worth the price.

@@frankchong5585 The turbo actually failed recently BUT it was because of debris getting into the turbine, not related to it being from ebay at all. Personally, I'd get the Mamba one. Hope that helps!

Bro the timer will start as soon as it feels your car moving and that's why your getting such high times you need to do the test from a standstill im sure someone has already explained this tho as it is RUclips and we are all quick to point out what's wrong but lack in pointing out the good stuff lol I was interested in your demonstration but unfortunately you wasn't doing it from a standstill
nope, this was a custom run that I set on the dragy to start recording after I go past 5km/h. doing it from a standstill would make things inconsistent due to the difficulty of awd launches, and because you can build a bit of boost by revving at launch. hence, by starting at 5km/h, the amount of turbo really shows, as well as the impact of the billet wheel

Where did you get the your turbo work done at?
Got the billet CHRA at superveloceturbo on ebay, and had my local shop get it installed. Shop is "SP Garage" if you live here in Indonesia. Here's a link to the ebay listing though

car normally does 5.1 second 0-100 times but it doesn't really factor in turbo lag
