Holy shit! I remember seeing this when it first aired in 96-97. I distinctly remember Peter saying that John was Star Trek fan. I saw them live around the same time in Odessa, TX.
There were actually some heavier songs on Take Me To Your Leader. Cup o' Tea, for example, is heavier Grunge/Metal. This was a different musical era than the softer stuff that came later.
@@TheRageaholic I bought Take Me To Your Leader when it came out. and just relisten th the whole CD to get it fresh in the mind. Yes, Cup o' Tea is the heaviest song on the cd. but I would put it on par with Petra Back to the street level of heavy. But compared to some of the other CDs that came out it still lack what I would call a hard edge have more pop to me. Examples of hard edge would THe Jesuse Experience by Bride, Crawl to Crina by Tourniquet, Fall Babylon Fall by Veni Domine, and even Legend Part 1 by Savior Machine. With all that being said it is still a very good CD and it is one of their best. The really sad part as pop as this is it still did not get any radio airplay where I live just like Petra.
John had struggles with drugs and alcohol but praise God he rescued John from it and now John is a missionary to the USA , he has a powerful testimony of God's rescuing power look him up he's got some vids on yt giving his testimony
@@matthewwhite4008 Yeah I admit I had no clue who he was the first few years I was a fan. It wasn't until I had listened to all their newer stuff and started getting curious about their older material, that I realised they had a different singer for a time
You have to understand that several of these clips were from 1996 and 1997. While not known to fans at the time, John was preparing to bow out of the band. Giving Peter more lead vocals on "Take Me to Your Leader" sort of implied that taking place.
Shared this with Peter’s fan club, Anthony this is an epic compilation! Well done! And to end with He Reigns-WOW!
Just missing old Newsboys days. Definitely old school is still keeping rocking. ❤❤❤
Interesting he introduced Phil by his real last name...these are indeed old videos.
"What else can we do but SHINE for Jesus Christ!" -- John James
2024 and still a fan
Awesome! Thanks🤠
This was the definite Newsboys lineup for sure !
Best album the Newsboys made, in my opinion
Not Ashamed is a masterpiece too, and Going Public❤❤❤❤
Yeah for me it's between this one and Step Up To The Mic
They are so shy lol. It really show you that conviction and work can take you far.
I love the Newsboys, and their music. I didn’t know about the other members

Why did John James leave the band?
Addiction to a white powder

Those Baked 🥔 Days.
No mention of John James* although he is in many of the clips??
Many people don't know who John is in relation to the newsboys most think Peter was the original lead singer
