It's hard to believe it's been 26 years since I've seen this concert live. It still is probably the most moving personal moment I've ever had at a concert in my whole life. My father was a WWII vet and built a nuclear family in the 1950s. By the time I came a long in 1965 he had two teenage sons and an adolescent daughter. They all got to spend time growing up with a father but he left to start a new life before I turned three. I suppose I felt worse for them not having the father they knew see them graduate, get married, and have kids. For me I just felt like you couldn't lose something you never had. Still there was a hole there and I don't think I recognized it until I was 18 or 19. I was listening to John Lennon's song, "Mother" and the verse about his father really got me. All the pain I never knew I had, that I guess I was hiding came bubbling to the surface. Seeing this tour in 1998 and that song and video really got me. It helped me start to heal. Years later after my father's second wife died my older siblings finally got to reconcile with him. I never did because I was still waiting for him to start a relationship with me. I felt it was on him to make the first step. How else would I know I was wanted I thought. A year or so ago, weeks before his 98th birthday he passed away. I'll never have any conversations with him but again, you can't lose something you never had. I still think back fondly on this song and experience and am glad you have it posted for others like me, many of whom were too young to experience this live.
