The AYR Cave Shop is my home man cave garage. Content includes: Obtaining tools and machines (mostly older), Cleaning up and restoring them within the limitations of a basic home shop, End goal is having a nice environment for retirement projects. I do my own automotive repairs, some of that will be included. I do a bit of Volvo Penta marine outdrive repairs as well. Mostly I’m working on projects to improve the shop. Biggest challenge is finding space, and oh yeah time. I enjoy the outdoors, hunting and some fishing, so some of that may show up on the channel. You may be wondering what’s up with the channel name; AYR Cave. When trying to think of a channel name I was also doing some research on our family clan name history. That led me to the town of AYE located in the Ayrshire region of Scotland, beautiful countryside and history, seemed like a good fit, even though we live in the USA. Machining is new to me, so expect to see improper procedures and mistakes. I’ve been a gearhead since an early age say 6 or 7 started taking things apart, went through the muscle car building phase back in the 60-70’s. My career has been in industrial HVAC service and construction that covers an incredible variety of machinery, electrical, electronic and automation equipment. I’m looking forward to full retirement, spending more time with the family, grandkids and of course the shop. Many thanks for checking out the channel…Dean

I like your slide hammer puller. I've never seen that design before. The medicine bottle idea is brilliant!
Slide hammer I think was an estate sale find...memory is a little fuzzy..Lol
Thanks for the view Bud !
Good discussion/demonstration…enjoyed
Thanks Chuck !
A heck of a lot of seals there Dean. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the view Harold !
That looks like a whole bunch of fun. Very good video thank you
Great, thanks for sharing
Walla Walla Washington has been getting a lot of rain
Were going to need a bunch to catch up..kind of drying out again.
Thanks for stopping by Frank !
Dremmel with small brass brush is excellent for getting that rust out of small cylinders without scratching or damaging.
In your opinion… can the input shaft seals be replaced without taking apart the steering box????….my steering box seems to be working fine minus fluid leaking out of the input shaft
No I wouldn't try it. The Box isn't to hard to work on, the main difficulty is finding or making the tool/socket to remove that odd ring nut. The 4 spool valve rings are also a pain, but if yours are good you could skip replacing those.
Thank you for the video!
Could you tell me which book you were reading on rebuilding these things? I need to get one
It was the Ford service manual. I don't know if there available anymore. I bought the full set from Ford back in 1981. They used to have an order form in the owners manual of new trucks back then.
What is the kit number and where did you get the kit that you used?
It was a Gates kit. Pertly sure it was a rebranded import. RockAuto was the source. Thanks for stopping by...Dean
Does Ford or some other manufacturer make that tool to remove the nut? I don't have access to a welder or speciality tools to make one? I'm wondering if should just ship mine in to get rebuilt.
Best to send it out....you will need special tools
china makes great stuff to not so great for selling to other countries, , because american companies buy there cheap stuff so they can mark it up more. so don't blame china, blame the american store buyers that sell to you
