I wish you could just buy frigates alone. As a main ship. All pilot-able ships are small one seaters. I want a ship like the falcon where you can walk around them without having a massive ship to go with it.
It would be great to just be able to take a Destroyer with you wherever you go, just for the added protection. You can always just summon your fleet, though to get the same benefits.
Give your Frigates distinct name/number designations, like "Hauler-1/Hauler-2/Hauler-3 & Supply-1/-2/-3" to make keeping them organized much easier. It helps to build balanced teams so you know which ships work best together to achieve optimal success and experience points during/after each mission. Don't worry if you only find C-Class Frigates, as they will level up to B, A, and then eventually S the more that they are used on successful expeditions. Just look at their rating numbers for each category and try to build as strong of teams as you can possibly manage. Balance the numbers around during the launch phase so that all areas are covered reasonably equally. Also, there's a limit to the amount of Frigates that you can have, so you really don't want to buy more than 4 of any certain kind. Sometimes no more than 3. There are 5 categories, but 8 designations. They are listed below with the recommended number of each variant. DATA - 3 INTEL - 3 HAULER - 4 TANKER - 4 TRADE - 4 DESTROYER - 4 EXCAVATOR - 4 SUPPLY - 4 I think that you could have two more ships than that, but this is how to have consistently balanced numbers for varying mission types. Once you have these purchased, I'd recommend two really good Destroyers and make sure that they stay with the Freighter/You at all times. That way, if you get attacked while they are in the same system, they will obliterate your attackers with relative ease. Makes doing various supply runs between your extraction sites and sales points that much safer/easier.
Frigates usually already have designations in their names. Like a support vessel will have "SV-(#)" in front of the name. A mining vessel will have MV and so on. Same with Freighters in regards to their class. A C-class Freighter would have CF or FC and so on for other classes. They don't always have it but it's pretty common from what I've seen so far. Just something I've noticed about the default naming conventions. Great tips though! Carry on!
ok, you are missing some big things. First, your primary stat is random from a low of around 15 up to around 29. The higher your starting stat, the higher your cap. Best I have managed is a cap of 50 when fully leveled. Second, there is a max level for Frigates, so once you hit that level you can't level them anymore. At that point, whatever your stats are is set. Third, the star count of your fleet is related to your total score. Score is calculated by primary stat for a mission. Anything over 100 gives you a 5 star fleet. This is where primary stat cap becomes important as the higher your stat the less ships you need to get maximum reward and best chance for success. Also, the type of mission you send them on can affect what stats they gain. So if you send a combat ship only on trade missions, it will gain more in trade. This is fine for balancing a ship, but make sure you can get your main stat to at least 40 as then you only need 2 to 3 ships and a support vessel to get to the 100+. Hope this helps.
it seems like you know a lot about this. My question is - is it worth doing this if you are only getting credits (or material to sell for credits)? I can just land on a planet and scan a few plants and animals and get over a million credits..... so what is the MAJOR benefit of doing this? You need to spend materials for fuel and fixing them up whereas scanning stuff when you have the 3 S Class items gets you more credits it seems... or is it just another part of the game to play for fun?
@@jmroz311 to answer simply, this is just an advanced form of making units. Since we are capped at around 4.2 billion units, once you reach that, it does not matter at all. So benefits, Frigates refresh every 2 hours with 100 materials based upon type. So Magnetized Ferrite, Chromatic Metal, Condensed Carbon. So you can use them for that, but it does not take leveling them to get that. Missions bring back rare materials, so it is easier to make the high level recipes, and with some gas farms it is pretty easy to get stacks of top tier selling items. but otherwise, it is really just status. You can warp your let in when being attacked by pirates and have them help in the battle, but if your ship is decked out at all, they die real fast anyway. Hoping some day they add more to the Frigate system. And you cap at 10 command rooms. So considering very few missions go over 24 hours, it is hard to reach this cap, but if you wanted to, you could send out that many, but to get max rewards, you would need high stats.
Dear Gene March thanks so much for this input, I was wondering about those starting frigate stats. Knowing that 29 is about the best in C class (i presume?) I will certainly try to get these. I was wondering if you found about any relation between the ship stats and fuel consumption? That was my main concern when the ships started getting better, they get pretty hungry. Yeah is actually easy to upgrade them, mines did on the third expedition, when I send them they were C class and returned being B. The encounter requirements isn't for the total of expeditions completed, I think that is for the total of solar systems that they visit
You can have 30 frigates total. There are 5 types of frigates in the game. You can thus have 6 of each type for a perfectly balanced loadout. Or my build which consists of 5 of each. With 10 support instead of 6. Because they give a bit of stats in everything, they can pad any expedition. But more importantly. They reduce expedition times and fuel cost. So sending 2 of them to every one of your 5 daily expeditions is a huge bonus. I did this when I realized I would NEVER use all 6 of my other types of frigates. Sending more for the sake of it is a waste of fuel. Once you reach the mission's star level. It's no use adding more and more frigates. And it ends up taking longer to level them up as you have to do a rotation. Instead I guarantee 2 support per expedition and then send 1-2 of the mission type's . I found I use my ships more effectively this way. Of course you will never send all your ships. As it;s 5 per mission and 5 missions only 25 or your 30 will ever be away. But I find the 5x4 + 6 a really good comp.
I suggest buying ONLY support vessels. once they are upgraded to S class, they can do everything all the other types can do, except they wont cost you 400+fuel per mission. ive done quite a few playthroughs, and I regret spending money on the other frigate types, which mostly just sit idle. and repair materials will be random and different per frigate.

"Note: Spider Infested" - these stats can't be worth it "Note: Crew are permitted Pets" - stats are not great but, this is certainly how I would run my fleet :) Sending out the fregattes to missions during workweek, so I can sell/use the rewards from the missions for bigger things on the weekend has been my weekly gameplay loop. Building and walking my own Freighter hasn't become boring yet.
Something crazy I just thought was that I thought that the frigate was the freighter and when I saw the real freighter I just realized how amazing and how my dreams would be fulfilled
The frigates level up quite quickly. The stats are the important thing to watch. When was buying mine I would pass on anything when the stats didn't total to 30 or above. Although a frigate with bad stats will improve, it will never have good stats.
Each type of frigate takes a different repair material. Silver, Gold, Platinum, Tritium and Pure Ferrite. Just keep a stack of each on the Freighter and your good.

A decent overview tutorial but not quite of what I was looking for, which was more about how the stats on the frigates work. I kinda figured most of it out on my own but I'd like to hear what Khraze might be able to add to that.
Max fleet size is 30. You can get rid of frigates (fleet ships) by going into your fleet manager in your freighter just behind the captains chair, hovering over the frigate you wish to disband, and holding the middle mouse button (I'm not sure what the button is for console). As far as I know, there is no way to gain any money back from getting rid of a purchased frigate. Hope that helps!
I did a two star balanced mission, and sent out four ships that equalled four stars. Three of my ships got heavy damage, and one of them got destroyed. Only the combat frigate remained undamaged.
Hey, Khraze. I‘m impressed you have only 80.000+ subscribers because your videos are very very good but be sure you will far. Please keep doing your job. Your videos are awesome and very useful to me. Have a good day! ^^

it is much easier than Elite Dangerous. You can easily play without YT tutorials, everything is explained ingame. If you like it super easy, then start with creative mode.
Is it normal to get a decent freighter as a quest reward mission? I was caught totally by surprise last night when I jumped into a system looking for a personal ship and immediately got caught up helping to defend a fleet from pirates. As a reward they made me captain of a super cool looking freighter. Looks a bit like a Star Wars destroyer. I was like, "Whoa! Uh...now...what in Batman's cape do I *do* with all this?? Alright, nothing for it then you little lizard birds! Let's get this show on the road!"
I've yet to figure out how to get 'fuel' from some of my frigates. I'll land and the captain will give me the option to take some condensed carbon but it's always 0. I imagine each type of frigate will have a similar benefit with the combat frigates stating they will launch fighters at your command. I just haven't figured out how to get it all to work properly.
You can always send it solo into a difficult mission and when you get a message saying it was damaged, tell it to go on further. It will USUALLY be destroyed if you do so
Can you actually visit frigates that are out on a mission? I tried once in NEXT but wasn't able to find my fleet in the system marked on the galaxy map.

So that's how you get frigate modules. I will be putting my s class fighter with max positron ejector to good use!
that was great... it helped me alot.. I'm just learning...THANK YOU SO MUCH... May God keep you and family safe... thank you again..
I suggest buying ONLY support vessels. once they are upgraded to S class, they can do everything all the other types can do, except they wont cost you 400+fuel per mission. ive done quite a few playthroughs, and I regret spending money on the other frigate types, which mostly just sit idle. and repair materials will be random and different per frigate.
hmmmm now here's something i never considered. i'll give it a thought and maybe a try. thanks for inspiration!
Good thought. As long as you have some decent stats for the mission types you plan to run, why not. Thanks for the idea.
Gonna try that out thank you!
Just got my first Freighter B class and acquired 3 frigates. This video was exactly what I was looking for.
Thank you so much for telling us how to repair. I still hadn’t figured it out!
I love every Frigate designs in No Man's Sky. And we can even land on it. I can expect in the future update we can do more with those frigates
Man this was a very very VERY good guide in every way. No fluff, concise, clear, informative, covers basics, visual guides, and everything else one could need. Thank you and well done!
DUDE. This video is LIT. Quick & informative. Perfect. Thanks.
"Note: Spider Infested" - these stats can't be worth it
"Note: Crew are permitted Pets" - stats are not great but, this is certainly how I would run my fleet :)
Sending out the fregattes to missions during workweek, so I can sell/use the rewards from the missions for bigger things on the weekend has been my weekly gameplay loop. Building and walking my own Freighter hasn't become boring yet.
This feature of the game is the only reason I'm playing. Been years since I played
I thought you were done talking about NMS! LOL Great stuff, don’t stop!
Very nice, interesting and useful indeed for us players who are a bit desperate to learn, grow and manage a nice fleet.
The Frigates booster can also be acquired at the Trading Terminals you can build in on the Capital
Freighters are bugged as hell at the moment. They barely render in and I fall through the floor. A lot.
Dude, awesome job with your guides. I just got into the game and it's been a lot of help
Each type of frigate takes a different repair material. Silver, Gold, Platinum, Tritium and Pure Ferrite. Just keep a stack of each on the Freighter and your good.
Will it pull from your freighter stock?
OMG I got a freighter!!! I received a message asking for help, and ended up assisting a freighter fight off enemies. After taking out two of them, got an invite to board! And the captain GAVE ME THE FREIGHTER! OMG! It's a C-class but who cares I LOVE it! Her name is Mambacita. Anyway so much to do. :-D I have 2 starships now a freighter and I can't believe it. Overwhelmed. LOL I have to repair one of the starships, it was abandoned and badly damaged and FREE, and now sidetracked by the friggen frigate. But this game...loving it. Have had it for years and played a little in creative mode. Playing exploration now about 100 hrs..and it's AMAZING!
Lol, nice, kiddo! BTW, everyone gets the first freighter free if you rescue it! Pretty cool, and it's free regardless of what class it is! Some people use this to reload and retry in order to get a better class.
Lucky me, I got an S class with max cargo space without even trying!
BTW, if you play Survival, when you get shot down, you get stranded on the ground again and have to repair you ship again!
I can tell your a kid and that's awsome glad you found this gem of a game.
@@jadawngriffis3745 thanks...let's just say i am a kid at ❤. Have not played for a while because time literally flies and it was starting to feel like a job! But it is a superb game!
My difficulty levels never go up on my expeditions even though I've sent dozens of S Class frigates. I still only get 1-3 star expeditions...never seen 4 or 5
I used to get them in Next not anymore
@@KingCalb I'm glad you said that because I was thinking that I had seen a four but it had been so long I couldn't remember for sure but I think my frigates weren't ready at the time and I probably opted for a 3
@@davehooper6481 yea I remember doing 4 and 5 star missions in Next. Its probably a bug.
I just want a frigot I can captain into battle . With turrets and crew .
I wanna be captain Blackbeard of the stars !
And rob the hell out of some of your piggy bank farms.
Wow I never knew about having multiple fleet command rooms to send out multiple missions.
The commander says build more rooms to send more fleets Now in 2020 :D
Read the title at a glance as “Feet Guide.” Lol.
Thanks man very well explained helped me out a lot.
Again, I know it's 2 years old but I'm just playing it now. Thanks
Speaking of convenience, you don’t have to go to your freighter, it will come to you when you call. If you’re on a planet, the freighter will arrive a little outside the planet’s atmosphere above you. If you’re in a Starship, it will arrive right next to you. It doesn’t matter where you left the freighter or where you are, the freighter will instantly warp to your location. Pressing down on the D-pad brings up the command to call your freighter
Mate, can you please create a video about starship mods. Example on how to correctly setup your starship, what are the best mods to install etc etc. thanks.
This was super informative, thank you! Instant subscribe.
Cranking out the content! so many guides yeah boi
There's also a great channel called "Jason Plays" with super detailed guides that sometimes have better, more complete information.
No relation. Just a fan.
Thanks as I've not long had the game and got my freighter and frigates, so this is very Informative.
Brah, I was surprised by the first commercial break, but I was more surprised by the fact that I didn't need to skip it cause I KNOW it isn't much, but heck it's all I could do (each time I reached for the skip button someone would talk that angry ferret down from the ledge, reminding it how good your content is and it's worth finding a small way to compensate you for the tasks, and if it's giving full commercial consideration to your advertisers well then... I have some time
The big ship that you have is one ive been looking for
lol i already built 7 command rooms, had a feeling it might be overkill
I got real lucky with my first frigate as it spawned as an S-class Exploration frigate with some decent stats.
I've seen two of them right away i couldn't afford it Lmao..
@@prungles4707 - Just get anything you can afford with decent numbers. They will upgrade classes as they gain experience from doing missions/expeditions. It's really easy to level them up to S-Class.
I got my frigate ship for free in vy,keen system for defending one
A decent overview tutorial but not quite of what I was looking for, which was more about how the stats on the frigates work. I kinda figured most of it out on my own but I'd like to hear what Khraze might be able to add to that.
That's everything I needed to know thanks!
Nice video presentation. Thanks for the advise.
What’s the max size for your fleet? Can you sell off or trade fleet ships? Didn’t see where I could do that. Thanks for the tips!
"Thats No Moon"
I've never seen a ship get damaged with a fleet rating of at least one star higher than that of the mission.
I did a two star balanced mission, and sent out four ships that equalled four stars. Three of my ships got heavy damage, and one of them got destroyed. Only the combat frigate remained undamaged.
thank you so much for actually making this
Frigate fuel is free if you look at the expedition terminal.
Hey, Khraze. I‘m impressed you have only 80.000+ subscribers because your videos are very very good but be sure you will far. Please keep doing your job. Your videos are awesome and very useful to me. Have a good day! ^^
Why? Subscribers have nothing to do with quality output. There are literally thousands, if not millions of channels with high quality levels and low subscription numbers.
Thank you mate you really help me
Thank you so much for this video!
oohhh yeaaa thank you very much
Your guides are great bro, just started a new game
There's also a great channel called "Jason Plays" with super detailed guides that sometimes have better, more complete information.
No relation. Just a fan.
Still think NPC bodyguards/fighter pilots would make the lone wolf a little more hard hitting against multiplayer teams
I didn't know the frigates leveled up. Guess i should stop snob nosing the C class i see all the time xD
Really help video! 😊 Many thanks!
just want to drive this add some players to it, and explode everything
Has any content creator mentioned the maximum number of frigates you can get?? Knowing the max your fleet can be helps when shopping for frigates
My first two missions both came back damaged. Hint send a combat frigate with them no matter what.
I wish you could have the ability when you want to Pilot the freighters frygates
I wish they'd put in more freighter designs based off some of these ships. >.>
You are wrong at 05:05 it is plus 10 Points NOT 10%.
Are those landing pads on your frigate? The hell that is cool how!?!? Tell me your secrets. That alone gets my sub 🤣
I have seen repairs taking things other than silver. IIRC, pure (or maybe magnetized) ferite, platinum, and gold.
Well needed guide
very informative, thx
I want to play this game but man it looks complicated
it is much easier than Elite Dangerous. You can easily play without YT tutorials, everything is explained ingame. If you like it super easy, then start with creative mode.
Its very easy to get into and I've never even died once since I started playing my first save... Trust me it is not complicated
Thanks you help me alot
Did I hear that right? You get a free frigate when you purchase a ship? You purchase a ship from a pilot at stations?
You get a free frigate when you buy a new freighter ✨
Great video! I have one question for you, where do you obtain the extra freighter upgrade cards?
You know with a Space games like this. A Voltron Game would be perfect. That's something I wanna play. Voltron!
well, the latest update got us Mechs, not Voltron but close!
Di hydrogen is easier to refine using the di hydrogen jelly which u can buy from space station
andrew lapp
Yeah That’s an awesome trick I learned that one recently myself and it makes having to get the hydrogen so much easier
Will I keep my frigates if I change/buy a new freighter?
Thanks!🖖
Is there a way to get rid of Frigates you no longer want. I have a couple that I bought early on that are terrible. Can they be sold or destroyed?
You can always send it solo into a difficult mission and when you get a message saying it was damaged, tell it to go on further. It will USUALLY be destroyed if you do so
Go to frigate list and press discard on chosen ships
Where did you find the ship you used when you boarded the frigate? Looks just like the one from the main menu art!
Can you actually visit frigates that are out on a mission? I tried once in NEXT but wasn't able to find my fleet in the system marked on the galaxy map.
Thank you good sir
I’ve only got 4 normal ships Jesus this game is insane
