    Do you recommend a continental grip at the kitchen on both FH and BH? Coming from tennis, i like FH driving and FH TS dinking using a SW grip. However, I find it difficult countering speedups on the FH side with the SW grip. My BH flick using continental is my best shot and I'm thinking it may payoff in the long run using one grip at the kitchen. Thoughts?

    • @tanner.pickleball
      @tanner.pickleball  6 месяцев назад

      Yes I recommend continental for all 2 handed backhands.

    No one on RUclips has yet approached analyzing JDubbs play style. I refer to is as "the fast handed fisher" since he rarely (more these days to poor effect) speeds up the ball and has a counter intuitive scooping dink which he seems to give "bad" but not horrible dinks to people to attack, knowing his hand speed is better and he can counter faster than anyone.
    Would love to hear your take not just on his techniques but on some of the major Pro strategies out there. I mean, I have my own ideas, but I want to hear your thoughts since they are often very succinct and on point, rather than meandering.

    What are the boundaries for the 1st drill? Is it like skinny singles or does the ball have to stay in the NVZ? I want to try this drill/game with some middle schoolers but need to confirm the rules first! It looks like a great drill to emphasize control & dinking.

    I might be wrong but it looks like you're drilling with a Franklin, but you have another vid where you say 4.5+ players go with the Dura, why aren't you playing with that? I feel like those are usually more yellow than green, that's what I'm basing my guess on

    Tanner, very good video. I noticed when drilling after the 16:30 point, on your backhand a lot of times you cross your leg across your body to take the shot. Your partner when he hits his backhand never crosses his leg across his body. Is this because of the skill level difference? Is one way more advantages than the other?

    • @tanner.pickleball
      @tanner.pickleball  6 месяцев назад +1

      I think this is a preference thing, when the ball gets wide on me I feel more stable and comfortable crossing! I see Ben johns does the same, JW does not

    What is the minimum time you would drill a specific skill, like starlight ahead dinking or resets?
    My drilling group does all the drills, but we usually only have an hour and tend to cram all the drills into an hour instead of focusing on a subset.
    I know we should be more focused, but I’m looking for guidance on a minimum time per drill.

    • @traviswise1012
      @traviswise1012 6 месяцев назад +1

      I will drill something till I feel like I've improved somehow or I've gotten enough out of it in the session and then move onto something else I want to practice. If I don't drill everything I want that's okay, just start with the things you need the most improvement on first.

    • @tanner.pickleball

    Tanner you are a rockstar! Question: On the kitchen line game, if your opponent speeds it up and you think his speedup will go out, so you let it go past, but you were wrong and it lands somewhere within the full court, is that a winner for your opponent who did the speedup? In a regular game that would be a point for your opponent of course, but how does that work in this mini game?

    • @tanner.pickleball
      @tanner.pickleball  6 месяцев назад

      Exactly! Same rules apply as a real game! Always dodge a ball if it’s going out! Simply your opponents point!!

    • @millisock
      @millisock 5 месяцев назад

      Mini or skinny singles doesn't mean "just the kitchen". It's just half the width of the court (sideline to center line), but it's full length (baseline to net)!

    I’ve learned patients and if you watch Howell he never speeds up the ball off the bounce and he wants the opponent to attack first because he knows he can just counter it or reset the ball. Of course he will attack if he thinks the ball is high or he can do a flick! Just watching a 6.0+ he will dink 100 balls if he wants to which is just amazing to watch

    • @mauricethegreasepickleball
      @mauricethegreasepickleball 6 месяцев назад +1

      I see what you're saying but there are times you can and should attack from the transition zone. Calling it a "reset zone" implies an absolute. Choosing not to attack when you should can keep the opponent in the point and lead to your own loss. Calling it the transition zone implies that you don't want to hang around that area if you don't have to.
