- Finally, here is the best version of this final. As much as I like Chanda, and she tried her game on Steffi, she could not do much with Steffi's pace and forehand.
Steffi 💖
Enjoy!
Small trivia:- from 1986-96 Steffi won atleast 7 titles in each year. That's 11 consecutive season😮😮. It's a record for either gender in the open era. Among male Jimmy Connors won atleast 7 titles in 7 consecutive season from 1973-79. Amazing consistency & dominance by Steffi. Truly unparalleled. But today especially WTA players solely care about slams. Ex - Sabalenka won 2 slams but hardly won anything outside of it (except Cincinnati) & many expert (including Jon Werthiem named her MVP of the year). Truly time have changed in WTA. The standard of winning titles is so low now.
Slams are indeed most important. Aslo, it's NOT a record for either gender. Evert did in in 13 consecutive seasons (1973-85). So no, Graf is not unparalleled. Bye.
@@keithwatson7434 Read my post carefully i say winning at least 7 titles not winning atleast 1 slam. Yeah Evert records of winning at least one slam for 13 years also amazing but she never dominate like Graf. Graf won 3 slams in a year 5 times. She won golden slam & quadruple slam something Evert or anybody could dream off. I guess you are one of Steffi's stupid hater.😂😂
@@keithwatson7434Slams are important but not everything. I thing tennis should learn from golf where they give POY based on titles & consistency rather then winning one slam & then flopping out rest of the tour.
@@rajusaha855 People who say only slams count are no real tennis fans, only occasional lurkers.
I have watched the greatest of the game battling it out in non-slam tournaments multiple times. The crowds were there, the players gave it all, the players received WTA ranking points.
Otherwise why not claim that only a Golden Slam or a Grand Slam counts?
If that were the case we only had to discuss Court/Graf.
Most slam winners are forgotten within a decade. Steffi's Golden Slam will be mentioned in 100 years from now. And no one will care that Steffi lost to Davenport in Wim 99 but that Serena beat old Venus at AO 17.
@@carrerau7138well said. Wilander & McEnroe both won 7 slams but fans & expert hardly put them in the same category.
god steffi was poetry in motion...the real goat
I wish Steffi wore this nurse dress in her one of slams final in 1996
Don't remember Graf ever wearing a dress in a slam match
@@Calicokit101 In slam matches Steffi meant business. No time to frolic around.
@@Calicokit101 French Open 96 2r vs Nicole Bradtke and then US Open 96 R2 i believe
@@MachoDefeaters French Open 96 R4 vs Mary Joe (first part before the rain delay) as well... I thought that dress looked so good on her. Not sure why she only wore it once and not even a full match!
It seems like Chanda really struggled with Graf's slice backhand on the forehand side. I remember in 1997, the year that Rubin's ranking really dropped due to injuries, she was struggling a lot on her forehand (pulling up on it too much).
Most of the players had problems with Steffi's backhand slices only Monica Seles and Gabriela sabatine dealt with it better.
True....Evert could handle it too.
@@Calicokit101 Evert lost her last 8 matches with Graf, with the first loss coming when Graf was only 16 and had not won a pro tournament yet. Granted Evert herself was 31 and onwards, but I wouldn't say there is some conclusive proof she dealt with it well, unless you think a bunch of wins over 14 and 15 year old Graf prove that.
I am confuse why Chanda can’t find her back hand
I liked Chanda Rubin
