    In this video, we are looking at some budget friendly options for filling bottles of wine. All of the wine bottle fillers used in this video were inexpensive. Two of the bottle fillers were automatic, including the Buon Vino Super Automatic Bottle Filler and the FastRack Ferrari Automatic Bottle Filler, Clear (IT-OS77-IHO2). Other options to fill wine bottles included the Speidel Plastic Fermenter-60L (15.9 gal), Fermtech Bottle Filler (black tip), and the Spring Loaded Bottle Filler.

    I've found that it's a bit tricky to use. If the plunger is not seating correctly, it won't shut off, but rather leak all over. I contacted the manufacturer and--amazingly--I got a call back that afternoon(!). Also, besides the leaking, the rubber bottle seal piece that fits into the neck of the bottle was split, so I couldn't adjust the depth of the fill. I fixed that with a tight cable tie around the seal piece. I say, I emailed and got a call back that afternoon. The fellow explained how to fix the problem, and said he'd mail me a replacement rubber bottle-seal piece.
    On the leaking, the nice fellow explained about having "1 millimeter" of the central tube sticking out past the plunger at the bottom of the unit. That allows the plunger to seat properly in the flanged housing above it. So getting it to stop leaking took some fussing--but that's fine, no problem.
    Getting it to start requires that the end valve be sensitive enough to trigger the shut-off device, but not so sensitive as to cause a shut off before the right level of cider (in our case) in the bottle. You have to get an Allan wrench (the instructions are weenie on this point) and experiment. I learned how to use the thing with the mild sterilizing rinse I used to prepare the bottles. You do have to suck on the vent/overflow tube to start the siphon, and usually I don't get any fluid (again, cider for us). But, if the valve has closed, either because the bottle is full, or because you lost the siphon, you can get a mouthful of cider. And that's not so bad, I guess. It seems it lost its adjustments toward the end of the day, but maybe I was just exhausted. It's a lot of work, bottling.
    This device is good, but it takes a bit of futzing to work entirely satisfactorily. The customer service is really great.

    You've got the most informative wine-making videos on RUclips.......Love them and appreciate all the hard work it takes to make these videos.....I've made a few and until you've done it, you don't appreciate the effort it takes............. Oh, by the way, those things are now 45 dollars on Amazon.......too pricy for me, I only make two six-gallon batches a year.....I look at all that wine behind you and think, what in the world does he go with all that wine.....

    I used to use the ferrari - for a decade or more - yes, if you forget to click, you have a mess. To be honest, if the Buon vino had a video of how easy it was, I would have bought that --- are you listening Buon Vino - send one of these to an influencer.
    But we have a whiskey bottle company as one of our tenants and one of the owners said, just buy the Enolmatic - that's all you need. and he was right.
    We regularly bottle 8-9 kits at a time - at my cellar, or a friend's cellar. Now there will be new bottles in cases, all labels printed, 4 people, each in their station and not drinking wine!!! (rule #1 until you're done!) 😂. We can knock out 8-9 kits in 2-2.5 hrs total. from carboys to bottles, labels, shrinks, back in boxes or in wine racks. Done. THEN we taste some. hahahaha
    Yes, the Enolmatic is a few hundred bucks - or 200± used (I have two), but if you are serious about your hobby, that is nothing - you are making great wines for $4/bottle - no biggie. Uncle Brad says, Enolmatic for the win.

    I recently got one. Used it once worked like a charm. Really love it for one gallon batches that are awkward using other methods.

    Like the review and I'll look at the Buon Vino next time, I replaced the spring loaded wand I had been using with a ferrari and so far the ferrari works great - the only thing I've noticed is sealing to the top of the bottle is critical - if there is not a good seal at the neck it will not auto-stop.

    I purchased the Buon Vino Super and sent it back as when it shut off it would still drip, and also wine would go flying out of the siphon tube at the top. To use it I would have to move it to another bottle and hope that the bottle where the top tube was in didn't over flow. I have the farreri and it works. It fill my bottle and the over flow tub does spit out a little wine but maybe a teaspoon rather then the Buon Vino Super that was just like useing a tube with nothing on it

    My Buon Vivo(Sp?) Worked great for a couple of batches and then just stopped shutting off. I went back to the spring fillers which are by far the simplest but, as you said, those punt bottles are a pain. We still have 20 gallons of muscadine wine from 2020 that we need to bottle and the grapes are about to break out again.
    We have had very limited success with our red muscadine wine. It tends to be tart and very dry. We can of course backsweeten. This year I did 12 gallons without must and it turned out quite good but the color is really opaque. Keeping the fermentation going was a lot of work.

    Wonderful review! Do you have any recommendations for the next priced tier? Also would be cool to see a similar video for labelers, if you had any suggestions. Glad to see you Plantra bird netting it working out again this year.

    I started with gum tubing and a spring clamp. Some fillers have a filter in line. If you are bottling to make champagne, remove them. They will remove the yeast needed for the second ferment.

    I have only ever used the Ferrari and had good results. I do not use the tube, there is a different closed top piece that screws on as an alternative to the tube piece. When you dial in where you want it on the top for flow, it doesn't shoot wine out.
    The pinching to stop flow is not an issue as it becomes a habit to do it and hear the click before moving to next bottle. It's pretty easy to fill bottles fast and have it auto shut off. I fill and cork at same time. Insert into bottle, press down to start flow, cork the last bottle that was filled, when flow stops in the bottle click the sides, remove and move to the next bottle. Repeat. I like the auto stop because I can cork the last bottle while it is flowing and not worry about it over filling.

    I use the last one und instead of siphoning I will rack wine into a 7.5 gallon carboy with a spigot at the bottom that I arachnid the feed hose to without the metal rod inside. Now I can feed the filler by simply turning on the spigot and concentrate on adjusting the on off sensitivity. The extra hose at the top I insert into an extra catch bottle in case it overflows past shutoff. You didn’t mention it but a nice thing about the rubber bung stopper is that you can twist it further up or down the shaft to adjust how full the bottle gets before it shuts off. Really easy. Another simple trick is to prepare the bottles and place the overflow bottle and the one being fill into a tray or basin to catch any spillage that accidentally happens.

      @@TheHomeWinemakingChannel I used it this weekend and it worked quiet well. I see in your video you removed the cap and wire and attached a racking cane and the orange cap to the carboy for ease of use. I did the same and that was a good because it made it even easier to position it in the carboy and hold it in place. Thanks again.

    Hmm, I got myself the Ferrari one, it was the only one available at my local hardware store. I'm kinda glad I'm not the only one having trouble with it, all this time I thought it was me 🤣 I spayed mead all over the house, it was a sticky mess.

    The ferrari IS a bit of a pain, but try putting an empty bottle next to the one you're filling and place the vent tube from the top of the ferrari into the empty/overflow bottle. It will help. The vent tube could be a bit longer too in my opinion.

    Thanks for the video mate. For the one question, can we control the fill level with the last item you show? Can the white part move? Because if it does not move we cant control the fill level I guess no?

    I've used that Buon Vino Super Automatic Gravity Bottle Filler and the main problem I had with it was that it rusted right around the set screw after flushing it with water. It filled the bottles great...but the fact that it rusted after 1 use was disappointing. If all of the metal parts were stainless steel that would not have been a problem

    I need to cold chill,can they be placed into a chest freezer?

    I've had 2 of those Buon Vino fillers and do not like them. It's basically a better made Ferrari. They leak, don't shut off, not good. I gave up on them. A good solution, but not budget friendly, is the Enolmatic. It actually works, allows you to cork at the same time and is a pretty nice device. If you're bottling more than a few bottles, it's the way to go. But even the Enolmatic is not perfect, but it's better than the alternatives.

    My grape looked great until we had a hard frost in the middle of June , froze the leaves and the young fruit but to my surprise the plants put on new leave and fruit, not as great as the first around , but there will be wine !

    Thanks for your videos all of them are great and have helped me alot. With your experience I wanted to ask you if you knew if there was a way to use screw-on cap bottles of wine. I have a pallet full of them of wine we had already drank and I was wondering if I could use those somehow

      Thank you! Yes, you can use a #9 cork in a screw cap bottle. I use them occasionally and have not had issues.

    Years ago I tried the Ferrari but after a batch or two it started leaking. I went back to the gravity style wand filler.
    For years I've known about the Buon Vino but because of the mixed reviews have not tried it myself.

    Would a spout introduce a lot of oxygen in the liquids when you bottle that way? Doesn't seems safe to me. Same for the Ferrari filler, it just shoots the liquid through the air.

    This looks great but isn't it a good idea to fill from the bottom to avoid oxygenation? (I've started out making mead, I'm not experienced to know whether this could be a problem - just commenting based on my reading so far)

      Do they have an auto filler now? I just got the tubing and fittings from them as I had a vacuum pump.
      I love it because I can transfer from a bucket on the floor to a carboy on the bench. I'm not sure I work
      at a large enough quantity that I need to worry about a auto fill though.

      @@JP1AO it's not autofill, but it has a release valve that you can press when the wine reaches the top of the bottle

    I bought the buon vino automatic bottle filler. It is not working. When filling the bottle (i am using water as a test) the water pushes the open/close button jp to the close position but when I lift out the filler there is still water coming out both when in open and closed positions. Can anyone help?

    Like another comment about bottling, does the last tool allow oxygen to get to the bottle? I noticed you do not control oxygen before bottling, which is no to me.

    I've often wondered about the Buon Vino filler but have been skeptical. I do no like their Mini Jet filter system. I find it very difficult to get the pump to draw, and it puts a lot of air into the wine. Every time I use the filter I get mold growing on top of my wine.

    Aren't you concerned about oxidation by not filling from the bottom? Does the liquid cling to the sides as it's being siphoned in?

      I usually figure that I lose about 10ppm of SO2 from the air contact of the bottling process. I suppose I could lose a little more filling from the top but I have such a margin of safety that a few more ppm shouldn't really matter.

      Do you have the black stoppered version or the newer one with the white stopper. It seems like the older ones cracked at the stopper frequently. I also suspect it could get sticky inside which would cause a little friction on the sensitive mechanism. I have only used four or five times so far but it has been working well.

    It seems sucking on the priming tube is unsanitary. You certainly couldn’t use the wine from overflow tube.

    The Buon Vino is absolute trash. Had 4 of them now,
    First 2 didn't work, third one dropped everywhere, final one doesn't shut off. Cheaply made garbage. They even turned off videos for their RUclips video on it.
