- A new way to fill your bottles from the tap by Tapcooler. Check out the device and accessories as well as my thoughts on using it. The Tapcooler counter pressure bottle filler does require forward sealing tap faucets. Some recommendations for forward saeling faucets are Intertap, Perlick, & Ultratap.
The Tapcooler is currently only available through Great Fermentations in the USA. Altough you may not have heard of them, they are great people out of Indiana with an online store servicing all of the US.

Hello, I know this is random but do you know how to package kombucha for longer shelf life without refrigeration. Thank you
Bought one of these on a whim from Great Fermentations (shout out to GF - they are the best!) a few weeks ago to bottle my holiday ale for friends. It worked out great and I wasted very little beer, especially compared to using my DIY picnic tap+siphon tube setup that I tried before. One note: you can actually purge the O2 with the device all the way on the bottle. The 02 goes out the valve. No need to keep the device just off the top of the bottle while purging, as you did in the video.
I did the same with my friends giving some beer out for Christmas! 👍🍻

I have a Last Straw from Northern Brewer, and I picked up this filler for convince. The Last Straw is great if you are filling many bottles at once, but I generally only bottle high ABV. I got this because dragging out the Last Straw for one or two bottles to bring to the homebrew club meeting or to enter in a contest is just a pain. This is quick and easy. I dont see my self using it to fill dozens of bottles, but for your quick fills it is perfect. Great review.

For the past 3-4 years, I’ve been bottling with a spring-loaded bottling wand inserted into a picnic tap which, of course, is connected to the liquid out post on my keg. It works really well for me, although excessive foaming can be an issue if the CO2 pressure is set above 5 psi.
True. And it doesn't purge the bottle of oxygen either.

Posting this before watching the whole video... I bought one of these. Love it. I got a bung that fits my growler, I can pull off the stock silicone seal that comes with the unit and swap it for the bung so i can fill my growler in the same manner. Only downside to that is I can't see the level in the growler being that it is Stainless. Using auto return springs on my intertap faucets makes it a little bit more annoying, basically a two person job.
The not being able to see thing wont be an issue once my Plaato keg's are installed, though!

Those filled bottles look a little different from my attempts with a growler hose - where’s the bubbles, liquid, and general mess all over your countertop and floor 😀

Just got the tapcooler, great product... bottled up a case last night. I have a mix of intertap flow control and regular faucets. A couple notes; minor leak between threaded nozzle and faucet ( is that a missing gasket? if so what size?) and the device would slide nicely into the flow control versions purchased a couple years ago but not into the regular faucet nozzle purchased last summer (anyone have a similar problem?) I'm thinking of making the growler nozzle into a dedicated tapcooler nozzle. thanks again!
Yeah there should be a gasket in between the screw on nozzle and the actual faucet itself. I can't tell you what size it is it's a special gasket because it has flat top and bottom and flat sides kind of like what you would find on a ball lock fitting if you take the spring out. That might actually fit come to think of it. I have not heard of any issues with not fitting a certain inner tap faucets to be honest with you.
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers thanks... last night I found the gaskets, not seated properly and flimsy. I had some unused pin lock gaskets from all corny gasket kits, they work great between the faucet and nozzle just not seated in the same location. The nozzle I.D. is definitely smaller and a mystery... thanks again!!

Hey! Thanks for the review... can you explain the sanitizing process you use when you are “freezing” the bottles before filling? Also, if done properly, what type of shelf life can you expect from a typical “aging” style beer at cellar temps? I have a keg of bb aged ris that I’d like to age awhile in bottles instead of taking up space in the keg. Any additional tips for this type of desired use?
I just place the filler in a cup full of sanitizer solution. As far as shelf life at least a year or more easy.

I was wondering more about the bottles... sanitize, then freeze... freeze first and sanitize the cold bottles with really cold sanitizer...? Starsan? I’d probably go with Saniclean to cut down on the sanitizer foam... or would an iodine based be better?
@@patricklauletta5042 I used starsan. Then freeze the bottles for an hour or so before filling.

@@ShortCircuitedBrewers i normally shove some tubing into the tap and pour into the bottle. Crude but if I'm sharing i normal dont care. But this would be a better way to run a few bottles of for a local HB comp.

I'd consider buying this. I only keg these days, but sometimes I want to take a couple bottles with me and I lose a bit of pressure filling my flip top bottles or howlers off the tap.
Yeah I think it's perfect for that scenario! 👍🍻
One thing I found to get absolutely zero foam is seal the bottle when purging. You can hear the pressure build up and the valve will release any air in the bottle. You now have pressure in the bottle. After all this is what it's all about COUNTER PRESSURE. Takes about 4 seconds. Then start filling the bottle. No foam at all. NO cooling bottles etc. So pretty much seal the bottle from the start and don't unseal it until the bottle is full. Easy.

Do you think the devise could bottle with enough effectiveness to send product out for competition judging? Sometimes your beer can sit around for a couple weeks before it is opened to judge. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Definitely could! With the counterpressure aspect it keeps the carbonation in the beer. As I said in the video I would chill or freeze the bottles before filling to help even more. 👍🍻

Hi I ve been watching your videos I like your content I ve been brewing over a year now, but used only natural carbonation but recently moved to force carbonation my first batch came out good but I tried the same thing with same recipe and couple of other styles it is all good when I pour from tap you have perfect carbonation and fizz but when I bottle it the carbonation gets lost I even used counter pressure bottle filler from company called PEGAS from Russia it fills bottle perfectly but I loose carbonation in 2 days in bottle can you please provide any help, I do clean and sanitize my bottles
When bottling you might want to over carbonate slightly. That would probably help.

👍Nice Video🍻 I use a blichmann beer gun however I find it hard to avoid foam, the temperature needs to be below 4°C but then it is OK.
There is as always much cleaning to do if you want to keep the bottle on the shelf for storage.

Do you need a separate CO2 tank or can you just use the CO2 in the keg and use the gas disconnect from one tank to purge oxygen and fill? I don't have a 2nd tank. Thanks!
You would need a separate tank or a T off of the feed line to the kegerator.

I purchased the hose connection for the Perlick faucets and found that it will blow out of the faucet if not held in. That requires more hands than I have. It is easy enough to put the filler in the bottle and then into the tap so the wet side extension is not necessary. I am still figuring mine out but it does seem that the exhaust valve on mine is not letting pressure off even when extended all the way. Others are clearly not having the same issue so I will figure out what is blocking mine.
If you have 500 series perlicks then you need a different insert with bigger orings. Take the release valve all the way out and see if it's sticking. 👍🍻
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers - yes and thanks. I was able to get the valve unstuck. I knew it had to be a local issue but maybe this encounter will prepare someone else for the issue. As for the tap connection, I have (and love) the Perlick Flow Control taps. The adapter I purchased matches the original on the filler and fits snugly and still blows out. This may partially be due to the stuck release valve but I suspect I will never use it again. I really liked how your Intertap connection worked in your video. I found the video helpful as well as your comments. Thanks again.

Sorry if you mentioned in your video, but what's the PSI on your primary regulator connected to the keg, and what's the PSI of the regulator attached to the Tapcooler device? I've tried a few different variations and cannot stop getting a big initial burst of foam when I pull on the tap
The keg pressure is 12 psi. And the pressuere to the device is at 20 psi. I bet your problem is the relief valve is too loose and not holding pressure when you pull the tap. Try screwing in the relief valve a little more and pure with co2 to build a little pressure before pulling the tap. That should help. Let me know if that helps.
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers I reached out to the manufacturer and after reading your reply and their instructions my process went much smoother. That said, I'm now running into the issue of lack of carbonation/flat beers. I bottled 2 beers to test the new process and a few days later when opening they gave out a little hiss, but the beer was flat. They were carbonated to correct pressure in my keg prior to filling the bottle. I leave the typical amount of space you'd see in any typical beer.... The manufacturer recommended I burp the co2 when I get to finishing the fill and cap on foam, which is what I did.. Do I need to be burping more? Seems like it could get messy fast with this method
Hhmmm sounds right to me.. With bottling sometimes you need to slightly over carbonate to end up correct after sitting in the bottle.
Did you have to lower the serving pressure before filling to reduce foam?

The both work fine for bottle can filling. The don't do a counter pressure fill though. The tap cooler is good for that. If you keg.

I also got a spunding valve from blichmann for my cornical! Using it to close out a fermentation under pressure for the first time!

I am having trouble getting the “feel” for the tap cooler. Did you say you use 20psi?
My beers serve at 23psi with about 9 feet of hose. Into a glass it pours great. What psi do you think I should use? It wants to blow off the bottle on me almost every time. I’m making a huge mess lol. I’m doing something wrong.
I use the 20 psi on The Purge side. My beers are served at like 12 PSI so you may turn it down to that. I do hold the tap cooler in the top you can't just let it sit there without a hand on it.
I bought an iTap counter pressure filler from a company in Russia called Boel. I haven't set it up yet so I can't compare it to anything.
I've seen those I think.. They look interesting. Is there a purge function for removing o2 before filling? 👍🍻
So, pulled the trigger and just bought one of these. I used it for the first time today and it worked well except for one issue. The co2 button was constantly dispensing a touch of CO2 even when it wasn't pressed down. This created some undesired foaming and a bit of a mess. Am I doing something wrong or is there a way you think I can mitigate this? (I'm dispensing at 14 PSI)
That's weird. It might be a faulty valve? I would ask for a replacement. I never had that issue at all. Even at 20 psi on the CO2 inlet.

Did you have any issues with the pressure relief valve, where it seemingly didn't do anything? For me it doesn't seem to vent CO2 even almost completely loosened.
I've not had those issues.

How would you attach the hose adapter to a Perlick faucet?
It would have to have a removable spout.
Got lots of spilling from the tap (using intertap forward sealing tap) and from device. Anything I need to try to make it less messy?
Spilling from the tap where? The nozzle end?
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers thanks for getting back. Looks like both ends, mostly due to the extension tube. It is less messy if i take tube off. but then it is hard to get bottles on due to tower size, like you mentioned
@@stanparker3737 almost sounds like you might have a "knock off" faucet? Probably the best thing I can tell.younis get the screw on hose adapter that allows you to screw a hose into the removable nozzle threads and then that eliminates the tower height issues as well.

Had lots of issues with controller I need to address with them. The basket worked fine. I'm not a big fan of the spray return. The element had lots of power. I'll give a complete review once I get all the issues with the controller addressed.

I have not. I need to check into it. I've heard from a few people that it doesn't work well.

You could add a drilled stopper just below the silicone one for doing growlers. It would work fine.. The original silicone piece is not really big enough for growlers though.
Just replace the silicone stopper with a drilled bottle stopper fitting your growler.

Who said that? I think I mentioned purists wouldn't want to bottle from the tap out of being fearful of contamination. I don't see an issue with it. I suppose there could be some "funk" Lurking somewhere in the faucet. But a good spray would probably take care of it. 👍🍻

Can you do this directly from a pressurized fermenter?
Yes you could They have an adapter that is a male flare fitting so you could definitely put a ball lock male flare connector on there and use it that way. 👍🍻
I would add that the beer would.need to be cold to do it though.
Mine leaks at the connection between the intertap faucet and the connection tube accessory once pressurized. This didn't happen to you and I'm not sure why

@@ShortCircuitedBrewers it says it's good for nukatap and intertap faucets. I have one of each and it leaks the same way on both. I serve at 14psi so I don't think it's that. Do you have a gasket on that side of the connection?

How is it with filling the 64oz growlers?
The stopper is a little small, but if you swap with a #6 bung it would work fine. 👍🍻
do you know if this will work on a Euro Style Celli faucet?
I don't know for sure. Any idea the inside diameter of the spout.
Are those forward sealing?
Celli taps are vented, so will not work unfortunately.
Why would you not use this product to fill your bottles for long-term storage? How would you go about doing that?
I just made that comment as I have not tested long-term storage using it. I've had some beer in bottles for a couple months and they are still fresh. 👍🍻

I just got one a few weeks ago. It's great. As far as filling on a tower system, I find if you rotate the faucet a bit you can get a 12 oz bottle to work no problem - not 22 oz however.
I had never heard to not fill bottles using your normal draft lines before. If you properly clean/sanitize draft line regularly they shouldn't be any different than any other vinyl tubing right? Is there something I'm missing?
No not that I know of. Some comments were made and I wanted to address them. If I were long term bottling I would probably use the keg line attachment. Not to say couldn't do it from the tap. Just a little extra insurance for sanitization. 👍🍻
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers I was wondering if that was more advice for people who aren't on top of keeping draft lines completely clean. I've bottled plenty of beers of the tap that have aged and competed well.
I was really trying to avoid any more tubing with this filler. I see the beauty with it is that you get a great/sanitary fill and you don't have to look for a sterile place to set it in between bottles. The fact that it stays suspended on its own is a major selling point for me.

You'd have to change the keg connection but yes it would work.
really its just gas I need, so I could buy a ball lock gas connecter and connect it to one of my lines. I was just hoping I could make it work out of the box with pinlock gas connection@@ShortCircuitedBrewers

This is better IMO. U don't have to have a big mount contraption.
I've been using a DIY version like the one in the below video and it works great! Been absolutely loving it. The one thing it doesn't have is a line to purge the CO2. However, I've got a distributor on the front of my keezer that I've been using to purge the bottles: ruclips.net/video/B0Ms6KVILjk/видео.html

Yeah it happens when you do 500 and 600 pound deadlifts. Your shoulders make your neck disappear. Most pencil necks don't understand that though.
