I lived in near the MarinedCorps Air Station from 1970 to 1976. some aircraft called the Osprey was being tested at the time and there were accidents.

I got to crawl around on that first one at Bell Labs years ago right after its first flight. I was so sad to see them replace my beloved Phrog, but I understood what it brought to the table in range and speed etc. My wish is that it can be as loved by today's Marines as our Phrogs were by us.

I manufactured the first article variable stator vanes for the T406 Allison power units fitted to Osprey. Before it got its airworthiness certification. That was a long haul.

My opinion is that one more rotor is needed in the tail, to prevent crashing while it was landing. The tail rotor is not needed to be as big as main rotors.

It's the first prototype about to leave the ground first time in the world ever ,not a military version yet. Nothing wrong with paint job. You need Hi-Vis paint somewhere for safety purpose.

Many accidents over the years some attributed to the ingress of prop wash into the intakes but with a bit of refinement it turned out to be a fine aircraft.

Honestly the thing became pretty reliable after it got out of the development phase, like most aircraft do on the other hand sea stallions are tipping over due to brown outs every other year
