My cousin and I got ahold of my uncle's Python one day when we were 6. He raised it, pointed it at me, and for reasons only he could tell you began to squeeze the trigger. A decently long DA and six year old fingers pull saved my shit. I dropped just in time to feel the .357 nearly part my hair and watch that big shiny gun double time it smack into his face. So the Python has a special place in my heart as the first time I nearly bit the big one.
I purchased my Colt Cobra earlier this year. I fell in love with it the first time I fired it. Great feel very low recoil excellent site and easily concealable for those who want to make this their every day carrier. It is every bit a Colt!! Thank you sir outta South Texas!!!
Revolvers don't make companies money, S&W's most popular products are AR15s and M&P Handguns, remember for every revolver sold in todays world, 15 automatics are sold in the same time.
I was stoked looking at the trigger length of pull on the king cobra I looked at. I have very short fingers and the gun's fit and finish was the icing on the cake. Length of trigger pull was even better than the sp101 I was looking at.

This gun is awesome! It is now my daily carry. And Yankee I believe you said the materials are the same, but according to Colt the new Cobras are stainless steel whereas the older 1950 to 1980 models were an aluminum alloy.
I enjoy listening to your point of views, because Iagree. That being said, I am still fond of my Ruger Alaskan 454 with a 2.5 inch barrel. Just love that gun. PS , please have a Merry Christmas. You are a good person.
I have a Colt Cobra, and what I noticed first is it appears to be cast as opposed to forged. Fit and finish does not appear to be as precise as the older hand built colts.
When I stopped by the LGS to check out the Colt Cobra I had it in my hands for about 1 minute before plunking down some cash to lay it away. I just bought 2 kinda expensive shotguns for shooting clays with my son so really didn't want to spend the bux on it at that time. I'll have it next month though and can't wait......
I walked in to my local gun shop the other day looking at a Taurus 856 Executive Grade, and walked out with a used Colt Cobra (reissue, not 1950-1990 vintage) for the same price. Good decision? Time will tell. First range day tomorrow, but so far I’m very pleased with the fit & finish, and the smooth trigger.
@@Travis_Trauma I bought a used vintage Colt Agent in very good condition. It is very accurate for a snub nose revolver and has a very smooth double action trigger pull. Hope you bought that Agent as it will appreciate in value.
I waited over ten months to get my Colt Cobra. I got it in October and took it to the range. Cleaned it and it broke afterwards when I was dry firing it. Colt still has it for who knows how long. With only a one year warranty and it breaking I can’t trust it. When I get it back it’ll probably be sold.
A lot of it has to do with people feeling like “like don’t make things like they used to” which is unfortunately a very true statement in far too many situations hence the growing sentiment.
I sold off all of my Colt revolvers (even SAA) years ago. I've never found them to have the strength or durability of S&W revolvers of comparable size, and finding spare parts or someone qualified to work on them is problematic at best. Considering the prices they command today, I see them as collector pieces that should be reserved for occasional range work.
I haven't shot one but i did check one out at the gun store and i thought it felt as good if not better than my detective special. I was much more impressed than i thought i would be. Trigger was definitely as good or better.
Don´t you guys know if colt is plannig to get some DA revolver with 3 inch barrel ?? I pretty much like this cobra but i feel like 2 inches of barrel are really not enough...
Brother my wife and I have about 10 guns between us, my days of buying and then later needing the money so having to sell are over. Last year I just got back into wheel guns having sold my S&W 624 .44 spl in 1991. So I found myself Jonesing for a gun got the Ruger SP101 gold trigger/hammer distributor edition love the gun, getting ready to change front black ramp for a Trigacon or fiber optic and change trigger spring out. I bought 3 guns last year HK VP9, Ruger SP101 2” , and S&W Shield Performance Center .45. If Colt actually had one of the Cobras in my area(Owensboro KY) I would have bought the Colt. Sooo this might be right if I can find one close to msrp or maybe a little less. Every gun I have I shoot the shit out of it will the new Colt take a lot shooting and carry well enough that I can carry everyday? If not this then I’ll be getting a S&W 642, heck I just bought a Safari Land holster for So it looks like 2 guns for sure 642 , M1 Garand and possibly that Cobra.
One point I think you missed Yankee why you mentioned the larger trigger guard the new Colt Cobra also has a redesigned trigger itself if you look at the trigger it's not as curved which is supposed to give it better leverage and pull
Had safety spring issues with colt .347 and .38 king cobras 2019 models ordered new springs and still had problems… spring would come off and wouldn’t spin the cylinder.. crazy can’t trust them to carry wish I hadn’t bought the design is a a flaw
Though I haven’t had the opportunity to shoot my new King Cobra yet I’m gonna go out on a limb and predict that it’ll give my 686 a run for the money. I bought one just on the basis of its silky smooth double action pull and its crisp single action trigger break. I’ve gotta say Yankee that it’s one of the bestest actions outta the box that I’ve seen. (Except for the Python of course)
Im relatively new to guns. Today I put a down payment on a colt king Cobra and ordered the S&W 8 round 357 wheel gun too. The gun shop where I put money down said if the 8 shot comes in, I can buy that one or take the King Cobra.. im in my 30 day wait because I just picked up another pistol. question is, which pistol is the BETTER gun? Is that just a preference thing ?
Yankee I've never heard of the Magnum carry I owned a king cobra stainless steel high polish in 357 Magnum but I never heard of the Magnum carry. Where does that fall in between the Cobra and the king cobra?
Love Colts in any caliber or type. Looks a bit pitted (even at 1080p).. Not a huge issue for me.. As long as oil is easily wiped off. At 7:23 is where I scratch my head... The grip vs the frame looks out of wack...I am sure I am nitpicking but it just doesn't flow... Why not run the grip over the rounded frame? Is my hand going to ride over that little hump when I shoot it from recoil? Or my wife's hand?:) Just my opinion... A gun is a gun at the end of the day if they function they serve their purpose... Not a fan of finger grips either... Just my opinion:) Love the fact one can change out the front sight... What type of material is the grip made out of? Also what is the line above and below the cylinder screw? I couldn't tell, but they don't look aligned(could be wrong). Thanks for the review....
I've got an old 32-20 Police Positive and have handled the new Cobra. Based on my experience, the Cobra trigger definitely isn't a Colt trigger. It's better! I rather love the pistol and hope to get one soon.
My first duty carry was a Smith 19 then went to colt trooper Mark 3 then to a Smith 59 I liked the trooper until I had a sweled cendiler with factory ammo
How does it compare to the S&W 60? Also, why not a .357 Magnum? Yeah, I know they have more recoil. However, I would trust a .357 Magnum more for hot .38 SPL +P loads than a simple .38 Spl with +P rating.
I generally practice with standard .38 Spl. If the Colt Cobra was chambered in .357 Magnum out of the gate, I would probably be interested. That one extra shot is 20% more fire power than a five shot J-Frame.
Only problem with that Model 36 repop is that it has the Hillary hole. Still...nice little hide-a-way roscoe(8-). I actually have a 638 Airweight w/ Crimson Trace grips. I find I can shoot it as well as I can my 2.5 inch M19.
`The frame and the barrel are 100% MIM, with a steel barrel liner inside of the MIM barrel. My 1980 Colt Detective Special has a better trigger than my 1972 Python, but I scored the spring in the Detective Special. Colt cheapened their small frame revolvers in 1995 with the SFII model, and again in 2017 with the New Cobra.
Is COLT making the new snake guns? Or is somebody else making them under license? I have been told they have LESS PARTS, and NOT made by colt. Anybody have any definitive information? Aa a owner of OLD snake guns and a owner of the new snake guns, the new ones feel like a 686, not a old snake. That's my opinion, yours may vary some.
Yankee, What kind of grip is that on the new cobra? I have the Lawman MarkIII 357, Looks like a enlarged Detective special. I have a older Cobra but the grip is bigger. Also have Agents and Detective specials. Will original holsters fit the new trigger guard? Thank you in advance for your help.
That appears to be a Taurus copy of a Rossi copy of a Turkish built gun imitating a Chinese squirt gun which vaguely resembled an old Colt, but made of shittier metals.
So Yankee which would you recommend S&W 442 or the new Colt. I've been on a .38 special kick Lately, Got a nice S&W 642 On Black Friday. My Only Complaint Is I find revolvers print more than my Beretta Nano or any of my single stack 9's
actually the barrel has the noted 'collar' about it to better 'crush fit' it onto the frame. there is allot more surface area to make a real positive lockup. when colt brought this gun out for a short spell about 30 or so yrs ago... a number of them had barrels that literally unscrewed right in your hand. yes it happened to me when examining a preowned piece. of course that produced an immediate divorce with then current produced colt revolvers. so im glad to see this collar now. perhaps its one for consideration.
Original Cobra: 15oz (some variants lighter) New Cobra: 25oz Heavy snubbies have their fans, but the original Cobra was a lightweight aluminum-framed revolver, comparable in role to the five-round cylinder S&W AirLites and Ruger LCR or the six-shot Kimber K6xs. This new Cobra is a much heavier gun for a different market. It's closer in weight to the Colt Detective Special, which also had a steel frame (carbon, not stainless) and was 21oz. The new Cobra is a heavy stainless steel revolver. Yeah, I'm disappointed. The Cobra series are, as far as I'm aware, the lightest six-shot .38 Specials to ever hit the US commercial market. Kimber has recently carved out a niche in the market with a six-shot gun of similar size. Colt could have reclaimed the crown. The original Cobra is light and the variants with the slightly smaller grip, the Agent and Courier, are even lighter. And despite the aluminum frames, they were successful with the low-pressure rounds they were chambered for. No scandium needed, apparently. I still consider them an interesting vintage alternative to a Ruger LCR or S&W AirLite. I want a .32 S&W AirLite, but I would settle for an old .32 Colt Courier instead. All-aluminum, but probably strong enough for a diet of .32 Long wadcutters.
It's not a Cobra. It's built by Colt All Right and it is maybe a 1970 Detective clone. It is a shame. All the gun manufacturers regardless of which one, they try to cash grab on the Name printed on it. I had it in my LGS in my hands. A gigantic rubber sight on a Revolver? Are you sure? Rubber sights on fishing, hiking, throw in the backpack revolver? It's more something for the 1/2 hour range visit and for making 14-year-old girls on the campus giggle. My local gun store got one for 553.99 for ages. "No thank you". A revolver is a tool to pass on for generations, this one, I doubt it passes through 10 000 rounds, but a Millenial wouldn't care. It had the right Brand stamp on it and who wanna shot it next week anyway? Next week they running behind a different shiny, sparkling whatchamacallit.

The trigger is better on the new one because it is a leaf spring trigger design instead of a coil spring design. The leaf spring prevents stacking.

I wish colt would make a lot more revolvers. Maybe the wouldn’t have to file bankruptcy so often if they produced as many quality revolvers as S&W.
Revolvers don't make companies money, S&W's most popular products are AR15s and M&P Handguns, remember for every revolver sold in todays world, 15 automatics are sold in the same time.
Is that all . I would have thought the auto number would have been much higher .
We still got Ruger supporting revolvers pretty well. 7-shot GP100s now getting released and more models offered in .327 Fed Magnum.

Can the barrel and the rest of the gun be polished on this model like the cylinder?

Heavy snubbies have their fans, but the original Cobra was a lightweight aluminum-framed revolver, comparable in role to the five-round cylinder S&W AirLites and Ruger LCR or the six-shot Kimber K6xs.
Would polishing the older colts diminish there value at all ? What are they even going for in that condition
Not much, if you have a colt in the famous royal blue, don't even think of touching it, if it's the not so nice later stainless guns, go wild.
Great video!
