    When I worked for a repair shop for audio / video equipment I learnt that alcohol is better than windex or related products, because windex leaves a thin film most of the time. I don't know if that's a problem for those bezels, but when working with lenses for optical drives, or video tape recorder heads (yes, it's been a while...) then this is critical. These days, when working with laptops, smartphones and tablets, I still prefer to use alcohol, because it leaves no trace, and is dried up in no time.

    When you remove the adhesive from the bezel you can use some alcohol to loosen the bond between the tape and bezel, it should help you remove it in one piece.

    Louis. Great Work. I just Started Watching your videos yesterday. And You do Great Work. I'm kinda like you Love the Challenge.. And I Agree with you On its Very Important to have the Right Stuff to do the Job.. Its like trying to do a Brake Job on a Car with only a Ajustable Wrench. It Might can be done with only that.. But I bet you would have more Problems Then its Worth. Just Spend the Extra Money to get the Right Stuff..

  • @gmanyyavailable
    @gmanyyavailable 8 лет назад +1

    I've had an adhesive that's even more prone to ripping than the clear one on the display bezel. What helped me get it off cleanly is to get the same or another strong adhesive around my finger with the sticky side out and continuously stick it to the adhesive and pull it back. This makes the adhesive come off very-very cleanly.

    Good thing i found your video because i have a macbook air a1466 now in our shop for me to check if its a lcd problem or flex problem then while i was removing the bezel the screen kinda cracked on the upper left side .. But when i saw ypur video and you said about removing the old adhesive because it may cause the screen to crack solve my problem .. Because the lcd has been replaced once and they didn't remove the old adhesive so that may have been the cause why the lcd cracked :)

    Louis as a Machinist who has dealt with glue/tape you should see if WD-40 messes with the color of the bezal and if it does not soak it with WD-40 at the beginning and after a few minutes take a scraper and you can remove it then clean the WD-40 off and dry it and done.

    Louis, both LVDS and DisplayPort use differential lanes to transfer video data. It's a common way for all high speed interfaces - USB, Ethernet, PCI, etc.
    Another thing is that it is actually possible to have random noise on the screen which uses eDP connection. The protocol does not guarantee integrity for the entire frame. And that's not only a theoretical thing - I've seen this shit in my own laptop when I messed with a DisplayPort connector.

    Out of curiosity, I've been looking at the available 11" panels on panelook and is it possible to swap the panel in a macbook air? Be it 13 or 11", mine is an 11", though. I've found the panel I currently have and it has an eDP 1 lane connector but I can't get a good view on it. I found a panel that the connector looks similar and is a 1080p panel but I'm not positive if it'd work as it's an eDP 2 lane.

    Excellent video tutorial and couldn't have replaced my LCD without it. Just have one issue though, after I powered up, the green isight camera light comes on and stays on. It on from the time I hit the power button and remains on even with the laptop in sleep mode. I tried updating, resetting the SMC & PRAM, also checked to see if the wire was cut or moved but nothing. It also shows no cam connected in the apps and system menu.

    Thanks for your video. Unfortunately, I made a mistake. I also removed the polarizer and the two other slides. Will the Polarizer be at the front or the back? Behind the other slides? Hope you can help me! 🙌
