40:00 So this film was the last one that Stan Lee did acting/voice over work for in Marvel films, but he passed away before it could hit theaters. So when I saw this at my local Regal during the premiere week, and Stan appeared with this line: "I'm really gonna miss him." ...... 🥺😭💔 Now let me tell you, I was bawling my eyes out next to my little sister, and so were many others in that room. I missed someone that I'd never met so hard more than I thought possible in my whole life that night. Honestly, how that whole crowd missed Spider-Man after he died, it was practically a mirror to so many theaters, including the one at my town, filled with people who were missing Stan Lee that entire night/week/months after the movie released to the public, especially considering how special of a character Spider-Man was to Stan and how much he was publicly praising/telling the world about how excited he was for this film. #RIPStanLee

38:40 This has been explained and hinted in this movie but there’s a comic that Miles says “Back in the day, my pops and my uncle did enough dirt in their lives to make Davis a bad word in some circles. I look just like them both and live in the same neighborhood, so, I don’t know, I wonder…”In this movie I don’t remember the exact dialogue but they hinted that they used to do crime but his dad then changed and became a cop so basically his parents gave him the last name Morales to stay away from the criminal past of the Davis name. Also using mother's name as last name is common in Hispanic families (I’m from Puerto Rico).

Doc Ock: My friends actually call me Liv
Aunt May: Oh great, it's Liv
A nice little easter egg to that moment in the 70's comics when Aunt May and Doc Ock almost got married but ended up staying good friends

Creator commentary brought this up on the "alternate universe" cut of the movie, actually! They used a lot of the storyboards back when Doc Ock was still Otto. They didn't 100% outright say Liv and May dated that I can remember, but they did kinda hint that the two did, saying all they did was change Otto to Liv and left that (in the end unused) storyline alone.

What makes this Peter Parker great is that, even though he ain't as svelte as he used to be, the whole reason his personal life went to shits is because he was devoted to being Spider-Man, so it makes sense he's still a stellar vigilante who hasn't lost his touch. A lesser movie would have had him older and more clumsy/lazy/incompetent, but this movie respected him as Spider-Man, which makes his relationship with Miles all the better.

Arron Davis (Miles uncle) was seen in Spiderman: Homecoming. He was the criminal Peter webs to his car that had ice cream in it so he (Peter) could get info about the weapons. "Anyone can be Spider-Man."
This is a central concept behind all the alternate versions of Spider-Man, which in turn is an inherent concept of the Spider-Verse, which you'll learn more about in the sequel that comes out soon.
When the original Spider-Man was published, his popularity took Marvel by surprise. Editors, writers, etc., would sit around the Marvel Bullpen and debate why Spider-Man was so much more popular than any of their other popular heroes at the time. The prevailing wisdom was that Spider-Man was at the time one of the very few heroes who had a costume that covered his whole body, so you really couldn't tell what race he was (even though I always imagined Peter Parker having the whitest possible voice).
This in turn led to Marvel cranking out a ton of alternate versions of Spider-Man, each in alternate dimensions. This is purposefully done so that other people can imagine themselves being Spider-Man. And it's not just diversity by race and gender. There's even a punk rock Spider-Man for punk rock fans (Spider-Gwen is technically the second punk rock Spider-Man).
Heck, Miles isn't even the first half-Hispanic Spider-Man. Spider-Man 2099 is one of the most popular alternate versions of Spider-Man, and I'm convinced that Batman Beyond is a DC ripoff of Spider-Man 2099. Speaking of Miguel O'Hara, Spider-Man 2099 wasn't in any of the trailers, and fans were really angry about that because Miguel is one of the most popular alternate versions of Spider-Man (he's right up there with Miles and Gwen).
Over time, there were so many alternate versions of Spider-Man, that a story like the Spider-Verse was inevitable. The Spider-Verse contains EVERY alternate version of Spider-Man you can imagine. Even that goofy 1970s live action TV show from Japan. The one with a giant robot.
And yes, Gwen and Miles have an inter-dimensional romance in the Spider-Verse.
As depicted in the post-credits scene, Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099 is the one who created the wrist bands that allow the alternate versions of Spider-Man to visit other dimensions. This device becomes critical for the story. In order to explain why every dimension has a Spider-themed character (called a "spider totem" in the Spider-Verse), there is a woman named Madame Web who makes sure every dimension has a spider hero. You will almost certainly meet her at some point in one of the sequels.

This is the best Spider-Man movie ever.
In an interview, Donald Glover asked "Why can't I be cast as Spider-Man?" Of course, what he meant was, why can't he play Peter Parker, which is a valid question especially considering the current demographic makeup of Queens. Anyway, comic book writer Brian Michael Bendis heard about this and was inspired to create the Miles Morales character. I believe Bendis has multiracial kids.
Miles Morales proved to be the most popular character in the Ultimates universe, so when the Ultimates imprint was shut down, they brought the character into the main universe.
Miles' father is a former SHIELD agent who became a cop when he started a family because that is safer work than what he was doing. Make no mistake, his combat abilities are far above those of any regular cop.
Miles got superpowers one year younger than Peter Parker. While Parker is a science prodigy, Miles is very smart, but more of a generalist. He's good at a lot of things including science, but not focused on science like Parker is.

In the real world, we multiracial people often have a first and last name from only one culture (my middle name is Japanese).
In the comic books, multiracial people always have a first and last name from each culture. You know from his name that Miguel O'hara is Hispanic-Irish. There are so many fantastic things going on the movie, the subtle animation, the not so subtle, the relationships, the character arcs, there's so many things done so incredibly well. I think my favorite though is the first introduction to Peter Parker. We all know the origin story at this point so yeah recap is fine. Then when he says he's the only Spider-man we know he's wrong because we've all seen Spider-Man before. Different movies, TV shows whatever it is we've seen another Spider-man. Even if you just look at 616 cubic Spider-man there's been multiple Spider-man characters and the "original" has changed time after time as new artists took over, new editors stepped in and what people expected from comics evolved. But that's not a bad thing because as long as they're telling Spider-man stories the important things are still there.

Mile’s last name is just a cultural thing, he has his mother’s (Rio Morales) family name. Also, in the comics Jefferson Davis (the father) took the name Morales as well, for 2 reasons. Canonically it’s because his own father was abusive and he wishes to distance from that name, but also outside the comics, Jefferson Davis was a president of the Confederacy. So it was in bad taste to (accidentally) name a Black man after a slave owner.

One of the few ones lucky enough to see this in 3D when it came out. If you think the style was great, seeing it all pop out in 3D was extraordinary. Real sad that they didnt release a 3D one...

This film is getting a two part sequel “Across the Spiderverse Part 1 and 2” and they’ve confirmed that like 10 different dimensions will be explored and hundreds of distinct new characters introduced so the new few will be even more insane

i don't know much about Miles Morales (mostly just tv), so i don't know if this was comic accurate or made for the movie, but i love that Miles has parents (most Spidermen don't) and they are important for him, he is younger than most Peter Parker's and you can see that in the relationship... his parents mean alot but he's growing so their relationship is being strained (naturally, he wants to be cool and his dad is a dork, not meant as an insult) the relationship is changing (parent and young child to parent and growing teen)
Uncle Aaron is everything his dad isn't (automatically making his the cool uncle, also very natural in growing relationships) and the two are not necessarily shaping Miles but giving him qualities he can add to himself, making him an adult.... i had seen the Prowler in series (before i knew of Miles Morales) he makes an interesting cool villain/anti hero, so to connect cool uncle Aaron and Prowler is an amazing choice (and as we see, he is not evil, and family is all important)
...again i have no idea how accurate (comic) this movie is, but i wonder if there is a series where Miles' Spiderman and Prowler team up together

being comic accurate isn’t necessary when the movie is actually good

I don't remember the exact reason, but Miles took his mom's last name instead of his dad's. Jefferson Davis is his actual dad.

    • @Gestrid
      @Gestrid 2 года назад +1

His dad and his uncle Aaron have a... shady history, to put it lightly. His dad went straight, his uncle did not. So, because of the reputation the name "Davis" carries, they decided to use his mom's last name instead.

If they don't give us a May "Mayday" Parker in one of these Spiderverse movies, i will be VERY unhappy. fingers crossed. Also, Super great how Miles just interrupted what looked like an important meeting by running sideways across the window. And Kathryn Hahn, always amazing.

Not sure if time is constant across all the different dimensions but I'm assuming so since Miles and Gwen are still only 15 months apart in age.
Miles is now 17-18 in the sequel so it's possible may was born after peter fixed his marriage but she'd only be like 4 or 5. So no superheroics just yet.
I get you though because I really wanted god parent miles or uncle miles for mayday when I watched the first one because without him, Peter would've never went back to MJ.

I had a problem with Miles last name as well. They should of reversed the ethnicities of his parents, so that his dad's surname was Morales.

like another commenter said, in some hispanic traditions the mother’s last name is used

    • @reynaldolorenzo8409
      @reynaldolorenzo8409 2 года назад +4

This has been explained and hinted in this movie but there’s a comic that Miles says “Back in the day, my pops and my uncle did enough dirt in their lives to make Davis a bad word in some circles. I look just like them both and live in the same neighborhood, so, I don’t know, I wonder…” In this movie I don’t remember the exact dialogue but they hinted that they used to do crime but his dad then changed and became a cop so basically his parents gave him the last name Morales to stay away from the criminal past of the Davis name. Also using mother's name as last name is common in Hispanic families (I’m from Puerto Rico).

Incorrect. Jefferson is Miles's biological father. Miles just uses his mom's last name. The real world reason is Marvel wanted to emphasize that Miles is biracial.
