Great video, you really know your stuff. If possible i’d really like to resign DJJ whilst trading Maxi, THJ and the 2025 first for Andrew Wiggins. I’m not sure of Wiggins value right now so don’t know if that’s realistic but I think he could be both that 3rd option capable of creating his own shot when needed, and the point of attack defender with DJJ backing him up off the bench. I’d also try get Dinwiddie on a vet min and see if he can fit back into the Luka system like he once did so well.
Honestly you might not even need to do that much. It depends on what else the Warriors have planned. I don’t think that’s out of the question at all though.

Also I don’t have the defensive numbers but I’m positive the lineups where the mavs played maxi at the 4 next to either Lively or Gafford, the results were usually really good. That’s a lot of size and switch ability while still maintaining some spacing. Secondly the main thing I disagree with in your video was josh green. He does a lot of things good but not great. This is the main reason I’m willing to throw him in a trade with a guy like Tim or maxi and Powell. I’m curious what your thoughts on adding a player like brogdon would be? I see him adding another 15-18ppg and being the third ball handler/six man. During the previous WCF run Kidd liked to run three guard lineups with Luka,Brunson,Dinwiddie. I would offer Tim and omax plus maybe a first, or all our seconds? Brogdons last health issues does worry me however. Here’s some other random mavs thoughts 1. Love this comment! A lot of cool ideas here! I do like the Brogdon move. I didn’t think about that one. That’s probably another way to move THJ and get something a little more team friendly in return. Then maybe Maxi goes in another deal and not for Caruso. Love the thoughts!
Really nailed it on the head, agree with most of your thoughts. My shortened target list is: Pipedream not gonna happen: Bridges, Herb Jones, Trey Murphy Maybe could happen: Cam Johnson, Deandre Hunter, Marcus smart More likely but not as ideal as above: Caruso, Patrick Williams, Jonathan Isaac, Brogdon, Dodo, Bogdan Random FAs that could be attainable (cap permitting) that would help on bench: Royce, Gary Harris, deanthony melton, Lonnie Walker, batum, Beverly, buddy, kennard, Doug McDermott, Joe ingles, Jae crowder Guys that have horrible contracts that scare me: Jerami Grant, Wiggins Think we should use both first round picks, Green, THJ, Hardy, Omax as needed to get any of those trade targets.
@@_AVC_ haha exactly. For the record your plan of Caruso + Hunter is literally as ideal as it gets. I’ve been dreaming up scenarios for bulls and hawks and didn’t even consider it being possible without green and hardy included, so I hope Nico does exactly what you suggested!
I think the combination of De'Andre Hunter and Trey Murphy III could really be deadly. Trey's inside the arc defense is elite and De'Andre's perimeter defense is really good, and both of them are really good in the catch and shoot from 3.
Love your vids, Man. Insightful & realistic. Hope the Mavs get it together next season and the years to come. Celts are a good blueprint. Kudos to Brad Davis
Appreciate you! Yeah the sad thing is I truly think Dallas was the #2 team in the NBA this year. They just ran into a team that was sooo much better than everyone else.
Jerami Grant or Deni Avdija as the new starting SF. Bogdan Bogdanovic as the 6th man. Nico Harrison has a lot of opportunity to get stuff done this off-season. I hope it won’t be a boring one for the mavericks
I love your idea for Powell to Detroit to clear space to resign Jones. I would love to see DFS back to the Mavss from the Nets, but Caruso would be good too for Timmy. I'd like to keep Maxi for one more year to see how he does. I think injuries really affected him a lot through the year. What do you think of getting Spencer Dinwiddie back as a low cost free agent? I don't see him getting getting a large bag from other teams including the lakers. He also played his best BBall with the Mavs. Overall love your video as it is so realistic, keep it going!
Been waiting for this, great video as usual! It’s summer now and I have nothing to do except think about my team all day so bare with me First the picks situation, I’ve seen a lot of people say the mavs now will have a 2031 first to trade after or during the draft. I didn’t see it in the video so I guess I’m just curious if you knew about it or perhaps it’s not included for a reason. The reason this is important is because I feel like other teams might feel like they can ask the mavs for an extra pick since they u derstand they really want to get better and can leverage that. Secondly looking at the players you added I completely agree with. I really like the veteran presence of pat bev, and the 3/d of Caruso and Hunter. I’ve never really been a fan of Hayes but thats more for personal reasons. I struggle to see the bulls just taking back maxi and a first for Caruso the most. Given their history up until now nothing indicates they will change until they actually do. I also struggle to see the hawks taking Tim if they keep a player like Bogdanovic since they are kind of similar roles. But I do understand the hawks trying to fix their cap.
Appreciate the love! If I remember correctly, the 31 picks become available after the draft. But they might not be able to use it because the ‘30 pick is involved in another deal. Not positive though. I also somewhat struggle to see the Bulls doing that deal haha. Like I said in the video, it’s a deal a reasonable person considers so that’s good enough for me 😂.
Coming from a Mavs fan, love these moves! You think the Kings would do a 1-1 swap with Davion Mitchell & Josh Green? Him, Caruso, DJJ, & Gafford would make up best the defensive bench in the NBA… I would also start DLive too. Great work!
Why bring Caruso off the bench? Start him at SF (a little undersized but he can guard forwards without a problem) and he will give you 15ppg. That's a hell of a lot more than what we have right now. If you can get a REAL forward (like Avdija, Siakam, Isaac, or Anunoby) then that's even better. If they could figure out a way to get a real forward (SF or PF) who could give them 15ppg and 7-10 rebounds, THEN added Caruso......that's next year's NBA champion. If Kyrie goes out for 20-30 games (or when Luka has to take a game here or there), you are still winning against most teams in the NBA. And when you get to the Clippers, OKC or MN, you're not concerned at all. And they would slap down Boston in another Finals.....especially if Luka was healthy. I can't imagine the damage he would do with that lineup. Might be an all-time Finals performance..... I don't know how much other people follow him, but I'm a big fan of him and the Bulls and have watched dozens of his games. He has a GREAT shot from the top of the key or above the break, AND he can drive the lane and finish strong. Plus he's an even better defender than Washington or Jones. Whether he's at SF or you bring him off the bench, he makes the Mavs a solid 10ppg better than they were.....and he's not going to choke in the finals.
@@SDesWriter Can I ask where the 15ppg comes from? I’m just curious. He’s never really been close to that and he’ll almost certainly get less looks. I love Caruso it’s just that thought wasn’t clicking with me.
@@_AVC_ He doesn't get enough shots with the Bulls. I've seen him hit three 3s in a row, then get pulled from the game and not get another shot for 15-20 minutes. He can go to the basket, he's a lob threat, and he has a VERY pure jumpshot from the top or above the break. I've seen him score 10 in their offensive scheme on a night where he couldn't make a single 3. I guarantee with Luka passing the ball he'd get a LOT of open looks and he'd be a 15ppg player. Out of everyone in the NBA I've probably seen him play more than anyone else because I like the Bulls but even when they suck I watch games to see what he's doing. He's been my favorite 2nd tier player for a long time. Before Grayson intentionally fouled him and broke his collar bone, the Bulls were on track to be a top 4 team in the East that year.....and he was scoring more.
@@_AVC_ 47%FG / 41% 3pt shot (mostly from the top, where the Mavs are weakest). I know he hasn't averaged it yet, but he obviously has the potential to knock down open shots AND get to the rim. He also gets you 4reb/4assists/2 steals. He's literally better than Jones in every way, even if he stayed at 10ppg (which I firmly believe he wouldn't). He's exactly the kind of player Luka makes better because he will be in where he needs to be and he will stick the open jumper.....and he's really freaking smart out there. No dumb plays turning the ball over trying to create something in a crowd (1.3 steals and 1.2 turnovers for his career). Oh yeah, and he would be tied with Kyrie for best 3pt shooter on the Mavs, and their team 3pt% would rise significantly by getting rid of some dead weight and cutting playing time for guys who shoot worse. That cuts down on fast break points for the other team.
Loved this. I’ll watch e every one you do. As for my Mavs. I’m not a huge fan of Caruso. Maybe your homerism showed here. Especially giving up a 1st for a backup??? I can see us having to use the 25 1st to get Hunter. Still, if our offseason went like this, I’d be happy.
@@_AVC_ he’s a ok backup, but I’m not giving up a first for that. Last season, on a not great Bulls team, he out performed his history. Is he really closer to that low 30% from 3 or was last year a new trend? He’s avg from the stripe. He’s a fine pickup, just not for the 1st.
Ik this is my third comment but I’m looking through 2k to see what other players are out there. What are your thoughts on guys like Larry Nance or Cedi Osman in terms of fit on the mavs? Also another trade target who I think could fill the Caruso/DJJ role would be Thybulle. He tried to sign with the mavs last offseason but the blazers matched the offer sheet. His australia ties is part of why he would like to play with green I think and he want to contend. If caruso is too expensive or they miss out I think thybulle is just as good of a fit there. Idea would be to send omax probably in return.
You can comment as much as you want about this haha! Honestly I like all those guys. Spacers/defenders are always great on this team, and Nance would be a cool Maxi replacement if needed!
Lowkey would like to see them make a move for Deni Avdija, Bogdan Bogdanović or they could do another Dante Exum move with Mario Hezonja but definitely resigning DJJ is priority (also sad that Caruso is already traded to the OKC)
That would be pretty dope. I could see him being the screen setter to get the pocket pass after they blitz Luka or Kyrie. He then gets to go attack the middle of the floor or playmake. You just my coaching brain tingling with that one!
I think the mavs need a 7ft3 center rim protector/ rebounder that can shoot the 3 and also be physical in the paint 3 and d guy that can slash with size and shot creator hopefully 6ft 10 or 6ft 11
I don’t necessarily think it’s a “ball handler”. I think you want a connector. Someone to keep the offense moving once Luka or Kyrie are done with the ball. Essentially what Jrue Holiday is. I think you can get the extra scoring from Hunter, but I think the connector is already there in PJ.
i don’t think the mavs should try to move the last pick until midway through the second round (specifically when Bronny gets picked) because in my mind the mavs pick him up at the end of the draft and it gives them a prime position to sign LeBron who would be a big addition to our weakest position (PJ slides to SF)
@@_AVC_ Watched the video and learned a bit how hard it can be to make an upgrade to a roster. So many pieces has to fall into place. I'm afraid that nobody wants Timmys at this point, but yeah Hunter looks like a very great fit. Would be happy if Nico could somehow pull it off. Would probably have to sacrifice Green.
What do u think about a Collin sexton trade for the mavs?? I think he would fit great as a 6th man we desperately need. Great defender and a 3rd ball handler. Which was our main weakness this playoff run was not have a 3rd ball handler (hardy was good but not consistent enough).
So… Collin Sexton is a weird player because of the perception of him. For some reason (I think because of the SL video of him flexing haha) there is a perception that he is a good defender. In reality he is actually one of the worst in the whole NBA 😅. Good news is he gives effort, he’s just not getting any sort of results. I do like him as an offensive player though! You could totally make a trade to get him. I don’t know if I want to invest in another ball handler personally, but I do like him!
@_AVC_ interesting, tbf I don't watch alot of jazz games lol. I always do see clips of him getting steals and things of that nature so ig those aren't the case always. Thanks for the info!
MFFL here, great work on the ideal offseason. Pretty realistic, except that the team cannot execute the trade with Atlanta as the team is hard-capped at 1st apron after giving out the non-tax MLE
Appreciate you! I believe (and I have to reread the rules every time lol) that the 2nd apron prevents you fro’ trading for more than 100% the exiting salary. The first apron is 110%.
DeAndre Hunter seems a little underwhelming as the main acquisition for a team that goes over the 2nd apron. But as the archetype of a two-way wing he fits. I wonder how much more flexibility and opportunity is opened if bringing back DJJ is given up on, so that instead of salary dumping to free up an MLE you're using that salary in a trade. DJJ has been great but he did have that stretch in regular season where he was poor on offense and you fear that could come back, also with the right replacement (Avdija?) you wouldn't be shedding tears for too long.
Hmm interesting thoughts! Yeah if you don’t bring him back it doesn’t really help much in terms of the cap. Cuz you’ll still be over the cap and limited to the minimum contract for all free agents. It keeps out the 2nd apron but then you do the same moves and you just have the same thing minus DJJ. Could always use him as a trade piece in the season if you need to since his contract really isn’t that high. Thoughts?
As a Mavs fan I’m not too big of a fan of these moves. I do like adding defense but after the finals run this team desperately needs another shot creator. Luka and Kyrie need that respite. Exum and Hardy aren’t really ball handlers or can do it in the big stage.
I could understand that for sure! The thing I think about is, come playoff time are they really gonna go anywhere else but those two? I did see a good idea of a sign and trade for DeRozan in the comments. I like that one a lot.
I love the trade ideas! although I would probably make few changes! Id go for Patrick Williams over Caruso from the bulls Mo Bamba instead of Jaxson because he can shoot the 3 & protect the rim better & Dennis Smith Jr as another PG he's 1 of the best perimeter defenders in the league & he's played with Luka! & Id also offer a minimum to KJ MARTIN he's 23 ,6'6 CRAZY athletics, can shoot & defend
A. sign and trade for Miles Bridges with THJ, Josh Green, 1st round Draft Pick B. Bring back Finney Smith for Kleber, lawson, Hardy C. Sign Dinwiddie / Beverly d. Resign Jones
I like your vídeos a lot, I've watched most of them, I love some of the teams you have built, that Memphis team is my favorite one so far, and the vídeos are getting better and better, however there is one thing I believe you've been doing wrong, perhaps the rule changed and I don't know, but I believe it didn't change. After the trade deadline, teams can't trade a player that have only 1 year left on his contract. If a player have a team option on his deal, in order for him to be traded, that option has to be picked before the trade happen for it to be legal. So for example, Dallas can't acquire Troy Brown Jr, and waive him after the trade. This trade would work regardless, Detroit could just absorb Dwight Powell into their raw cap space. I don't think Detroit should or would FWIW, but that's a diferente discussion, and I think someone else with cap space would eat Powell's 4 million for a 2nd so that's kinda irrelevante here, it's a solid and very realistic idea and I believe it will actually happen this offseason. But in other videos, you've been trading players with team options and them having teams releasing them after the trade, and like I said, I could be wrong, but that's not how it work. Anyways cudos for what you are doing, you have a lot of knowledge of the players and understand the teams needs and I have been enjoying this series, that's why I wrote this.
Get jones back. Get jerami grant. Get Bruce brown. And Simone fontecchio. Mavs need a secondary creator (someone who can break down a defense) which is why I like the Bruce brown. And we need a volume shooter. Not a guy that just shoots threes. But a guy who shoots a lot and makes a lot, AKA Simone. Jerami grant is a stretch. But would be a great third option and has been connected to the mavs for a while
Wow things move fast. This video is outdated already with the Caruso to OKC trade. I don’t like Hunter just a player that under performs expectations. I’d rather develop Omax and see what we have there. I would have loved the idea of dumping Powell instead of THJ to get under the tax and to re-sign DJJ but Powell is not expiring and that’ll make it much harder for us to dump him. Nico needs to be very creative this summer.
One thing you HAVE TO take into account is Kyrie choking against the Celtics again. Dallas needs to be able to COMFORTABLY score 90-95 a game BEFORE you count Irving's contributions. Maybe with less pressure he'll perform better, but you can't count on it. They need 15-20ppg from the SF or PF position and put PJ at the other one (and move Jones or Green to 6th man).
@@_AVC_ i mean - assuming slovenia advances to the olympic games , luka will only finish his duties there around the 2nd half of august , meaning around a month and a half before pre season games , so he is not going to get to much rest time til start of season 24/25 ..
@@jjcometa9333 If they go sub cap MLE then yeah haha. An okay starter goes for 18-20 nowadays. So a guy like him is probably just below that range. The thing is as well… If you don’t bring him back it’s kinda just dumb. Because you are already in the luxury tax and can’t acquire anyone outside of a minimum contract anyway. So it’s either him or a minimum guy 😅.
@@_AVC_ I guess they have no choice? Hopefully they can still do some moves tho. ThJ, Maxi and J.Green are all making significant money and 2 of 3 of them need to go or maybe all of them for a bigger name or bigger impact player. Exum and Hardy are good value players who are still young.
@@jjcometa9333 yeah that’s kinda the thing they really don’t have a choice. But he did have a really nice season so hopefully he’ll keep it up. I’ll again tell ya though I don’t think those contracts are really bad. It looks like a lot but it really isn’t anymore. Doesn’t mean you can’t package them for something better, and they probably should. I just want the standard set for contracts haha.
@@_AVC_I liked gafford too and I’d like to see more of his development over time with the MAVS. However I could see him possibly being traded. He’s a great rim protector /paint deterrent and an excellent lob threat but from what I’ve seen isn’t much of an offensive threat as I’d like him to be.
Yes, he was Good defensively and was a lob threat, with the money we can offer people he would be one of the only few decent players we could play everyone else would be getting paid too much. We could trade him or someone else like Dante Exum at the deadline and they would have somewhat decent value.
@@darthwalrus1327 The idea of prying Caruso away from the Bulls is WAY better. He's a better defender, a MUCH better scorer, and also a lob threat (only a little less than Jones). If the entire offseason consisted of getting Caruso, it would still be a huge success. But if you dump Jones, Kleber, Hardaway and a couple others, instead of trying to play 11 deep you can shorten the roster to 8 or 9 and have a MUCH better team.
My shortened target list is:
Pipedream not gonna happen: Bridges, Herb Jones, Trey Murphy
Maybe could happen: Cam Johnson, Deandre Hunter, Marcus smart
More likely but not as ideal as above: Caruso, Patrick Williams, Jonathan Isaac, Brogdon, Dodo, Bogdan
Random FAs that could be attainable (cap permitting) that would help on bench: Royce, Gary Harris, deanthony melton, Lonnie Walker, batum, Beverly, buddy, kennard, Doug McDermott, Joe ingles, Jae crowder
Guys that have horrible contracts that scare me: Jerami Grant, Wiggins
Think we should use both first round picks, Green, THJ, Hardy, Omax as needed to get any of those trade targets.
@@kevinmcgee-ud4ot 3 & D wings incoming haha! No yeah that’s definitely the way to go.

Those would be two awesome additions!
Love your vids, Man. Insightful & realistic. Hope the Mavs get it together next season and the years to come. Celts are a good blueprint. Kudos to Brad Davis

Whelp… so much for the Caruso part lol.
Great vid bro!
Appreciate it my friend!
Been waiting for this, great video as usual!
It’s summer now and I have nothing to do except think about my team all day so bare with me
First the picks situation, I’ve seen a lot of people say the mavs now will have a 2031 first to trade after or during the draft.
Great work!
Appreciate it! I actually do think they would! That could be a really interesting swap. Would you still want to play Hardy as well?
Ayyye appreciate you! Kinda curious why you don’t like Caruso? I feel like every fanbase wants him haha.

Idk why, but I wanna see Derozen with the Mavs. I think J Kidd would make him nice. Him with a 4 and 5 would make them great IMO.

The Mavericks need another ballhandler scorer to take some of the offense load off of Luka and Kyrie and add an additional 15 to 20 points per game.
I don’t necessarily think it’s a “ball handler”. I think you want a connector. Someone to keep the offense moving once Luka or Kyrie are done with the ball. Essentially what Jrue Holiday is.
I think you can get the extra scoring from Hunter, but I think the connector is already there in PJ.
i don’t think the mavs should try to move the last pick until midway through the second round (specifically when Bronny gets picked) because in my mind the mavs pick him up at the end of the draft and it gives them a prime position to sign LeBron who would be a big addition to our weakest position (PJ slides to SF)
from a casual mavs fan
Haha I love the clarifier! But yeah I can back it!
Is there a way for the Mavs to get OG Anunoby?

@@_AVC_ Watched the video and learned a bit how hard it can be to make an upgrade to a roster. So many pieces has to fall into place.
I'm afraid that nobody wants Timmys at this point, but yeah Hunter looks like a very great fit. Would be happy if Nico could somehow pull it off. Would probably have to sacrifice Green.
@@RighteousUncle Could be for sure. I think they’ll find a taker. Any reasonable scout should know he is a good player.

Id go for Patrick Williams over Caruso from the bulls
Mo Bamba instead of Jaxson because he can shoot the 3 & protect the rim better
& Dennis Smith Jr as another PG he's 1 of the best perimeter defenders in the league & he's played with Luka!

Yeeeeah things move fast indeed 😅. Beginning of a crazy offseason.
One thing you HAVE TO take into account is Kyrie choking against the Celtics again. Dallas needs to be able to COMFORTABLY score 90-95 a game BEFORE you count Irving's contributions.
