    psychological trick #26 - To avoid people sitting next to you on public transport pat the seat next to you, make direct eye contact and extend your finger towards them inviting them over. A glaring ballscratch is equally effective.

    Another BIG example of a place you should avoid the word "but" at all costs, is when apologizing. 'I am sorry for my part in the fight.' sounds ( and is received ) better then 'I am sorry , but .... ". Many people get defensive ( some even believe the apology is fake ) the moment they hear the word 'but' in an apology.

    I learned a trick as a police officer which can REALLY help people who work in phone jobs where people yell at them. When someone is screaming at you for THEIR problem, start LOWERING YOUR VOICE! (She types in shouty caps. LOL) They will soon lower their voices to hear you which will a lot of times, improve their bad behavior.

      That's a good one. It's like the " read, relate, and relax" technique, to a degree, but in your case, your actually dictating their behavior, as for RRR, you feel them out, talk to them on their level, and then relax into that role. It's actually the inverse!

    "The size up" may not work for women as well as it does for men. Actually, a woman doing that to a guy could cause MORE trouble, as the guy may see it as flirtatious. (It's commonly believed men can turn anything a woman says into an innuendo. This is no different.)
    Ladies, I recommend a slight modification to the size up as Mike tells it: Look the guy in the face ONLY. Throw in a slight frown, or at least a neutral/bored expression, to discourage them from thinking you're interested.
    If you're looking at another woman, use your judgment between Mike's version and mine. Some might get catty if you look them up and down. Guys, probably best if you keep your eyes up as well, when facing a woman.

    I have used number 20 so many times when my children were little. I always offered 2 choices that essentially got the same task completed. They felt like they had some control over their own world and I was able to get them to put their toys away, bathe, go inside, put on shoes etc.
    Worked every time!

    A variation of the number 9 is what I like to call "the greeting". When I sense someone is about to catcall me, I look at the person straight in the eye and say a polite but firm "Good day, sir" and that is all it takes for the person to look at me all surprised and immediately change whatever they were gonna say to "Good day, ma'am" :) It works pretty much every time

    Good pieces of advice, I just remembered someone who actually applied all these tricks at work... although he managed to get the job done, everyone hated him. The point is, you might persuade someone to do something for you using your marketing techniques, but if you do it on a regular basis, everyone notices and everyone hates you... DO NOT OVERDO IT!

    Rule number 0: Do not manipulate anyone.
    I worked in Sales as an insurance agent and I quit after realizing manipulating their reactions is just wrong. Such as getting them to answer yes to all my questions eventually leading to "So would you like this or that policy?" then they have only two option which they select from.
    I learned quite a lot of manipulation techniques on this list from that job then I got more aware of other people trying to use these techniques on me including my manager to make me spend more time selling policies while I had to study for my degree.
    I am currently working as a telephone surveyor since recently and I have to be sly sometimes not to give them the time it takes to complete the survey or lying about the time to make them do it knowing fully well how long it takes. Also, I have to use techniques like keeping them engaged with the sequence of relative subjects during the pitch so they don't hang up. I am about to quit this too coz it makes me hate my life when I manipulate others or hurt others or lie to others or be a sly fox. I wanna be good and loving and honest but my surroundings only push me towards the dark paths.
    I thought surveying people is not as bad because it is for research and as soon as I found out that I have to lie and be sly or manipulate the surveyee's response, I just felt bad and this is like poison to me. The more I do it, the more I hate my life.
    I know some people would call my behavior naive but I want to earn my money with honest hard work and without lying or manipulating. If being smart means manipulating others then I would rather stay dumb forever. I regret working for a company that taught me how to manipulate and use it on people but for the future note, I will never work for this kind of company again.

    it's not "illusion of choice" (that's a whole different deal: "you do this or do nothing." "you get this or get nothing."), it's "perception of choice." this is often used to get kids to do their chores or other tasks they tend to try to avoid and fail to do. it goes like this: "Do you want to do your homework now or half an hour from now?" "Your room needs to be picked up. Do you want to pick it up now, or 15 minutes from now?" either way, the chore gets done, but the kid thinks they have some control/choice in the matter, which reduces resistance and can increase the likelihood that the authority figure gets cooperation from the kid.

    I always do #3 because I know that if I were telling someone something and they told me that they know or heard it before, it would make me not want to talk to them about things because they already know. Or even if they're telling me something I already know I pretend like I'm actually interested in what they're saying, plus I just enjoy listening to people stories even if I've heard them before.

    I used to work on a job with a team, there were several teams within the company and one of our guys sucked at his job, so when we found out he put in a bid to go to another team, we told everyone how good he was and how we couldn't do without him so that the team he put a bid to join would take him and it worked.

      user 007 actually it's a common psychological trick. for some reason if you can get someone to do you a favor, they end up liking YOU better. still don't understand how it works but I use it all the time.

    • @ki5aok
      @ki5aok 7 лет назад +1

      I think they get it in their heads that if you ask for a favor, then you need them. Most people want to feel needed.

    • @Billy-rr7re
      @Billy-rr7re 7 лет назад +2

      jakob dodd what I mean is that if you ask for a favor then, you will be in debt. just like borrowing money. that person will certainly ask you for a favor in the future and, that favor, you may not want to do it but you will have to since they did a favor to you in the past. it is just like owing money

    I always use "however" instead of "but" for negotiating. It appears less confrontational. And use it in a reversal context. For example: Don't say "you showed up late today, but you did a great job."
    Instead say "You did an great job, however you didn't show up on time."
    You'd be amazed how this subtlety works.

    #1 Gifts: The final prophet Muhammad who most people know nothing about said: "Gift eachother and you will love eachother" and he also said: "Gifts rid the heart from anonimosity" and "Smiling at at the face of your brother is counted as charity" and one of my favourites" You will not enter the Garden until you believe; and you will not believe until you love eachother; Shouldn't I guide you into something that if you do you will love eachother? Spread greetings, (Salamu Alaikum! - peace be onto you!)".

    Some other tips: Shake hands in 90 degree angle, that will make people feel like an equal, NEVER pull someone unless you're close friends, that is just plain weird, and if someone doesn't respect that 90 degree, slightly put your other hand over and naturally make it right, DO NOT force it, it has to be NATURAL! Also, don't interfere with others' problems unless someone is getting hurt, leave them to argue between them or you'll only make things worse, trust me, even if you're right or think you are, you are the one getting framed in the end! Stand at attention soldier! Of course, not that high though, it also needs to be as natural as possible, people do appreciate when you look them in the eyes and have a good posture, specially in formal meetings or reunions! Also, please people, use your common sense, never pull out your smartphone in those two scenarios, that's disrespectful, leave it on silent, and if you forget and get a call, just turn it off, don't answer and tell that "you're calling later", that's also disrespectful ;)

    I have a friend, very good business man, successful company. I did some work for him and I remember our first day when I was giving him my sales pitch. Started off well and then he stopped talking and just watched me. Thinking I'd lost him I kept blundering on, digging a bigger hole for myself. I'd lost the high ground in that negotiation and all he did was stop talking. I always remember it when negotiating a deal.
