- Not only are self-checkout aisles inviting to shoplifters-deputies say they’re also the places car and home burglars are most likely to cash in on the credit cards they steal.
so, basically what's happened is the customers work, while the employees stand getting paid to do nothing but watch you do the job that they used to do. This society is demented.
Actually its worse, those employees stand by and watch people legally buying their food with scrutiny, while mobs of Bla$%# walk into the restroom and steal stuff. I watched it with my very own eyes. There was even a man in the womens restroom, I told the manager, they didnt know what to do... F#%$ WM! Its a Chinese Company.
HERE: It is a publicly traded family-owned business, as the company is controlled by the Walton family. Sam Walton's heirs own over 50 percent of Walmart through both their holding company Walton Enterprises and their individual holdings.
So who owns the other 40% of WM? Hmmm...
Gee, the sweat and toil. It’s almost too much to bear.
And a lot of those employees actually lost their jobs to this maniacal concept. Insane
@@SUGAs_Shadow85 exactly. And, they still make us wait in line because there aren't enough self checkouts, or the tiny one square foot of counter space to work and bag. Duh, hello. Then they wonder why we hate the user expeience. Worse part, it isn't goning to stop, and UX of everyday life will only get worse to the point of maddening frustration. But you know, corporate profits are doing great. We don't matter. We are just consumers in this machine.
@@GungaLaGunga You don't matter. The real customer of corporations are the shareholders.
I've worked at walmart. The management does NOT have the employee's back. They are reprimanded or just ignored if the employee brings things to their attention. So you learn to just do your job and put in your hours.
Management anywhere doesn’t have an employee’s back. That’s what’s it’s all about is putting in the hours & leaving.
@@trixie9777 Very true.
I don't use self check outs because I don't want to these machines taking jobs away. Plus I live alone, it's nice to be able to go to the store and be able to say hi and have the clerk say hi....
Agreed!
Yeah, walmart used to be like the town square where people went for human interaction 😊
Are we getting mad its taking away jobs? I hope you understand its always been this way until we find more jobs to give people it will continue
Think of what happened during the Industrial Revolution
I agree and think the same about taking jobs away.
self checkout is better for smaller number of items.
So open a 15 items or less checkout lane, we all know WM treats its employees like crap. The tellers are clinically depressed and look like zonbies because theres onlly 1 teller for the entire store..
@@user-iy1vo2jf2qTarget has made self checkout for 10 items max.
@user-iy1vo2jf2q this hasn't helped at stores that DO have a limit, the machines don't know any better and managers will just override it if someone with more gets in that line.
Not really. The grocery store that I go to in my area usually only has one actual human running a register. All the rest are self checkout. Every time that I use the self checkout it will say Place your item in the bagging area, when I already did. Then it goes to Request Help and then I have to wait for someone to come over and clear it. It is ridiculous
IF I am going to do a cashier's job, I most certainly expect to get paid for it. I won't work for free.
Plus I enjoy the human interaction. I also believe that humans have bills to pay, unlike stupid cold machines.
When I lived in Phoenix I would shop at the Walmart store on Thomas Road, in the early 2000 era, Walmart didn't have self check out and you had to stand in line, to check out and the cashier's would always catch someone using a stolen credit card and the thief would make a mad dash out of the store leaving the credit card behind with all the items that they were trying to purchase. Get rid of self check out.
Please!! Being a little archaic is okay! We don't have to be 100% technologically advanced. I like keeping people in their jobs
Opened comments expecting to see hate on self checkout and was appalled to find people praising it.
Aside from these issues- saw a video elsewhere on YT where walmart was falsely accusing people of theft from self checkout. According to said video, some were getting arrest warrants months after the incident. They were able to get charges dropped, but fear, headache, and legal fees aren't fixable.
Unsupervised card machines are prime targets to install “skimmers” on them to gather customers payment info.
😱
All that’s needed is an ID scan function on the self checkout to match the face with the ID photo with the card used for purchase
Happens all the time at our local Walmart. They distract the person supervising the checkouts and steal whatever they want. When I pointed this out to an employee, she just shrugged her shoulders.
Most policy is not to stop a shoplifter unless your loss prevention
they dont even distract in most states they just clean walk out. They started making auto barriers to PHYSICALLY keep the perp from walking out of the store while the cops arrive. That way no employee can lay hands/lawsuit etc.
Why should a retail employee be responsible for a broken system enforced by their employer
It's probably a lot safer to mind your business. No sense in getting hurt for a corporation who only likes you for your money.

Self checkout makes it so there are less jobs. Introvert or not, I think I'm going to start waiting in line again.
Good luck!
I can do it faster and get out. I like them.
There is only one way when it comes to gift cards. Load at cashier only. Some may slip through. But way less than this.
So much org crime scam fraud on gift cards, stores need to lock them up …..until it’s requested and loaded.& to make them Tampered proof gc
Whole self ck out system is based on customer trust…too tempting for dishonest thieves to scam away, shocker huh ¿ I can’t stand them, so best to avoid using it. ..Made to save stores $ laying off human cashiers, so we the suckers customers have to its job.
SLIP through??? You’re NUTS!!! They do NOT GET ACTIVATED UNTIL they’re SCANNED!!!!
Yeah they made it that (in UK anyway) you have to go to the customer service desk for it.
I'm pretty sure where I work you can only buy gift cards at the cash register.
Those cards must be locked up to prevent tampering from org crime (yt channels exposed Nigerian popular scam gc besides tech support scams ) so it’ll be safe when cashiers load up$. Stores won’t reimburse after you lose $.
Should have just kept People as Cashiers instead of being Greedy
First time I seen them my thought was Boy that will make it easy to steal. Now I don't use them.
The problem for me is since stores started using self checkouts they have less registers open. I prefer going to a regular register if I didn't have to wait a half hour just to checkout. I stood in line for over an hour at Walmart because self checkout didn't take cash that day and they only had two other registers open. When they did open a third they just opened it not getting anyone from ine if the two lines. So those who just walked up were now checking out in front if some who had patiently been in line for over an hour.
Tsk tsk😊
Watched a woman scan every other item at a Walmart once
Sounds like a corporation problem. Not mine. Walmart pays below poverty wages while having all time record profits. We should arrest corporations for theft .
No you didn't. The scale would have picked up on the weight vs. items that were skipped.
😂
@@thevarietyoflife7283 lol in my state Walmart doesn’t use the scales on the bagging area. But other stores do this
@@thevarietyoflife7283 What are you talking about? The scale is only to weigh things like produce and fruit. Someone absolutely could just leave stuff in their cart and not scan it
I don't mind self checkout for a couple of items. It's when I see someone at self check that has a cart full of items. Just go to a cashier at that point.
This.
The best way to combat this would be to take away self checkout...but then they would actually have to pay employees.
They would be saving more money too, and it would be better for customers
I don't know how much Walmart pays it's cashier's, but are they saving money with self checkout?? Or losing more merchandise?? I talk to one of the door guards at the Walmart we go to. She said they will hit the door running when asked for a receipt.
And they're not allowed to give chase. It's dangerous and liability won't allow it.
They were at 1 checkout lane for 12 minutes with no products. Just buying cards with stolen credit cards, and nobody came up to investigate it sounds like the failure is the stores.
I like self checkout much better because of all the holdups at regular checkout, price checks, wic and ebt purchases and coupon queens are the big holdups. Self check goes faster, I can separate items, keep cold together, eggs, bread, canned good, produce so easier to put away at home and food stays fresh. I have had wrong prices, I watch the price at items are scanned. My big concern is someone getting my card info with a skimmer. In my state, AL you cant buy gift cards at self checkouts, and now when you put in your debit pin or if its credit, you also have to enter the zip code associated with that card.
Old news, youve never bought gas with a CC huh?
Why not a pin f the credit card
That's really dangerous 😊
@@gingermonroe4153 I agree and have been saying that for years now. About time.

I like self check out, too. And I go in and pay for gas.
The gift card purchases are not going to be changed by discontinuing self checkout unless they ID and limit the number that can be purchased. And why are they not focusing on the people they are paying (employees) to watch the self checkout? Is that not why they are there in the first place? 🤷♀️at our Walmart the self checkout employees are too busy chatting and socializing to do their jobs.
Chit-chatters MUST be FIRED!!!
There usually are gift card restrictions. That's why they're using multiple cards. They teach cashiers to watch for people using multiple CCs to purchase gift cards. Usually they will deny the transactions.
Probably out of their minds bored, standing there watching people for hours on end.
@@SUGAs_Shadow85I didn't think you could purchase gift cards with anything other than cash. At least that is how it used to be.

It may take jobs away. As an employer, the problem that I am experiencing is that there aren't enough applicants to fill positions. Self-checkout is a way to help businesses account for the lack of workers. We are experiencing a demographic crisis where the younger generations are smaller than the older generations that they are supposed to replace. Regardless of whether we like the self-checkout or not, I'm afraid more solutions that do not have people involved are only going to get more common.
Lock up the gift cards or change the policy that to purchase gift cards you must go to a cashier and show ID.
I've lived in Manhattan different states and in none of them allow you to buy gift cards with a credit card.

When we choose the cashier lanes it's because we don't want to battle the errors in the self-check out lane (unexpected item, pay sequence etc.) and wait for someone to free it up. It's not because we feel more appreciated.
Self Checkout at my local Ralphs just makes the employees lazy. They just stand around yapping while customers are doing their jobs.
Dollar General around here went to 100% self checkout January 1st. I haven't set foot in one of their stores since. I can't wait to see their next quarterly report.
Dollar Tree/Dollar General are both corrupt AF. My mom and aunt both worked there, and my mom was being SHed and they found a reason to fire her instead of go after the person who was harassing her. Sh*t company
My Target got rid of it 😂
I didn't see any self checkout at my Target. They may be there but there were plenty of cashiers. Unlike Walmart where there was one cashier in the super Walmart and lots of self checkouts.
Cashiers need to do there jobs !!! I used to be one and now when you walk into the store everyone is just standing around, they act like they are doing a supervisor job ....but they need to do their real job serving their customers and as much as they are charging for groceries someone besides me needs to check them out .... I did my time !!!!
Self checkout was designed for people that had one or two items and wanted to check out quick. Now you see people with full shopping cart sitting there for at least 10 minutes checking their stuff out. So of course there's going to be tons of stuff that they are not going to pay for.
If I cannot buy a straight talk cellphone card with a prepaid gift Visa card. WHY can you buy a gift card like that with a credit card????
the ONLY time I prefer self checkout is if I came in to buy 1-5 items.... anything more and its a pain in the butt for me and the stupidly tiny spot you have to place your enormous cart. I swear those things are the worst aksi for scanning round irregular objects and when it finally scans the one item I have...... it double scans it so fast I couldn't stop it and have to wait for help to undo the extra scan. I hate feeling like a baby being babysat at those things.
Even though Walmart STEALS EBT funds from customers and refuses to return them. There are tens of thousands of people who had been ripped off by Walmart by placing grocery orders online.
So fvck walmart, they owe thousands of dollars to elderly, Social Security recipients, anyone that uses EBT cards to survive and Walmart is stealing from the poor refusing to return it then they retaliate and close down your account with Walmart+ .
THe issue with speed is they let ANY AMOUNT of items to go thru self checkout wether you're checking 10 things or 20+. Also what makes supermarkets slower is that you need weigh items which takes even more time than just scanning a bar code. Self check should have been limited to 12 items or less like the old express lanes.
Next: If items are low on the shelves, a customer can get a pallet jack and stock the shelves themselves.

@zimfan101 No. I'm saying if that these stores need to get real about their own security and stop being afraid of lawsuits from criminals. Just adding more cashiers up front can help with security. The police shouldn't have to come to a store because some granny forgot to ring up an orange.

Worked as a APC manger for Walmart for several years and my biggest bust was just over five million in a gift card scam. It was very common to apprehend people who had taken nearly a hundred thousand dollars or more in various schemes. It’s not just teenagers and drug addicts who shoplift some little item. The cartels, street gangs and other various groups are all involved in numerous operations involving theft. The average person would be shocked to know what goes on in their neighborhoods. These days it has to be far worse in cities where they have been releasing criminals and refusing to prosecute.
No city releases criminals, and absolutely no city refuses to prosecute criminals.
Put video cameras on the checkout machine to get their pictures and then use facial recognition when they attempt it at this or another food store.

I still think self check out is saving stores more money than they lose. Average stores lose 1.6% due to theft. They lose 3% due to clearance and expired items. They lose 2% in returns. They lose 1.8% to missing or failure to accept delivery ( let me explain, the semi truck pulls up to offload, and the store is not prepared to accept delivery, so they deny delivery that they already paid for. ) They lose .8% on employee discounts. They lose 3% in employee theft. On top of all that, they have the cost of paying income taxes on every employee in the store, Federal Unemployment Tax for every employee, workman's compensation, health benefits, paid vacations, and paid sick days. With the loss of all the merchandise compared to the cost of additional employees. It's cheaper to take the loss. Also, theft doesn't get passed on to customers. Mismanagement and poor planning does.
Still cheaper than paying employees?
Go California you don't need self checkout just walk past checkout without paying 😂
