- I fed a random red meter to add time and avoid someone getting a ticket. Apparently the meter maid saw the red meter before I filled it and decided to pull over and write a ticket to a car who was technically parked at a green meter. The car is being blocked in my a double parked Fed Ex car which he apparently didn't see.

I saw a news story back in the eighties about a self appointed goodwill ambassador who dressed up as a clown and went downtown where he made balloon animals and passed them out to kids while putting money into parking meters that were either expired or about to expire. He called himself "Mr. Twister" because he twisted the balloons and the meter handles. He was arrested and became a real cause celebre because he was much beloved by the local townfolk. He got himself a lawyer who volunteered his services and I knew he had the right lawyer because, when interviewed by the news media, the lawyer said he was doing this "pro Bozo". If I remember correctly, the charges were dropped.

I agree with you. Several years ago I lived in Philadelphia Pa. for five years and I never owned a car there. I used public transportation or walked any place I wanted to go. Not only was parking a royal pain in the ass but auto insurance was insanely expensive because it was all no fault insurance.
Cities do have bus systems, or subways. You can also walk or ride a bicycle. The benefits far outweigh any costs as an automobile is 100% optional.
Meters were originally introduced to move parked cars so there would be more traffic in commercial and retail areas. Now it's just a way to hide an additional tax.
Imagine that, the government trying to profit from a honest idea meant to help businesses and traffic flow.
If it helps to keep my taxes down then they should charge more for the service.

A few years back I was in San Diego and my meter had just expired. Parking enforcement was already there writing a ticket. When I approached, he asked me if it was my car and when I told him it was he said, "Put 50 cents in the meter." After I did, he stopped writing the ticket, told me to have a good day, and went about his business. Very nice guy and a great example of how every interaction with law enforcement doesn't have to be punitive.
This guy is a face of humanity and it's an honor to know people like him exists. Tremendous love and respect for people like him.

the problem is we have a constitutional right to face our accuser and see the evidence presented against us. the ticket is time-stamped. if the parking meter was green during the time the person is alleged to have been parked illegally, then that ticket is invalid.

b, I just went by what was said in the video which the op seem to have missed. He assumed you are in violation the moment you park at an expired meter, but it was mentioned later in the video that you aren't as long as you don't walk away. What the actual law is, I do not know. Also I do not see how parking at a meter is the same as parking at a handicap spot. I would assume you are in violation the moment you park at a handicap spot if you don't have a placard.
California is literally the worst when it comes to parking enforcement. Was at Hermosa Beach one day and the parking enforcement guy was literally camping right next to meters. 1 minute late or try to refill your meter? Here's a $200 ticket! It sickens me how these Mexicans are literally allowed to jump the border and immediately get a 70k job by legalized theft. I ended up leaving right away--didn't need anxiety that day.

Larger cities generate MILLIONS this way. NYC generates something like 600 million annually. Unless they employ 10,000 meter maids, this would be a HUGE revenue loss.
The time limit on the parking meter indicates all the time you have to be legally parked there, and when the time expires - you have to move. Meter-feeding in order to extend your parking time is unfair to other people who need to park there, that's why it's illegal. There is no corruption in this video, aside from the guy who is illegally feeding expired meters.
whether other people want to park there or not, its not like the car will be towed unless there is more outstanding tickets or other reason, so the point that getting a ticket will make the person move i believe is invalid. if you ticket me i might as well keep my car there the rest of the day, i mean ive already been ticketed right so why leave. ill finish whatever business i had to do in the first place then leave.

I was once parked in dt toronto and noticed the machine didn't take cards but only coins. So i went into a convenience store to get change, 1 minute later, when I came out with the change, there already was a ticket on my dashboard. I swear to god these ticket guys are ninjas.
Here in the UK, they have to give you a few minutes after your ticket expires ( 10min in most cases )

So how about when you pull up to a parking spot and the meter is red? It's red until you get out of the car and put coins in the meter. What if the cop sees you in the car before you have a chance to get out and put coins in?

I caught a meter maid in S.F. on Sutter st. and noticed him about g to write a ticket ! The pick up was in a loading zone with his flashers on ! I told him that he was legally parked !!!! He goes ohh and walked away !! Revenue maker !

Did that last week...2 hour meter, Parked in San Diego Downtown 6th and G put a nickle in since i was just running into client's place to drop off a box of product(less than 10 minute) came back and meter was red with -2 minutes showing... meter man was parked behind me but not out of car yet. I got in car, drove off safe and clear....SO I thought (No ticket on Windshield) ...what do you know...Ticket came in the mail.

Had a cop do this to me once. All I did was calmly ask why I was being given a ticket. He then got inches away from my face and started screaming at me and threatening to have me arrested for interfering. There were many witnesses around so I knew I'd get the ticket turned over. Cop returns a min or two later, apologizes and takes the tickets back. Didn't even know they could do that.

SD used to ticket meter feeders in the 90's. My friends and I would feed expired meters at SDCC and we were harrasssed by police for doing so.

This happened to my party in San Francisco, however we actually knew we put in more money in the meter than needed for the time we spent. In fact, all the cars parked along the street with us got ticketed even with sufficient time left in the meters.
This is why parking meters are being removed from the streets. The maximum amount of time you can get is determined by the meter. That means that you cannot be a tourist, and spend all day walking around without constantly going back to the meter. It's a kind of leash.

My old home town went crazy with the parking meter frenzy and guess what? People stopped shopping downtown. It died, just died. A mall was available a few miles away and almost all of the customers went there. Stupid people are all around us and too frequently making community ordinances.

In Toronto I fought a ticket once because the meter's time was off by 7 min and by-law we have 10 minute grace period to update the meter. I got the ticket dismissed.

In the U.K. feeding a meter is illegal. When the time on the meter has expired it has expired. The meters are there to ensure that nobody parks for longer than a specified period.

A street in my town, someone went and knocked all the parking meters off. I think to this day, there is still not parking meters on that street.
WOW! He is a good Samaritan! I am going to pay people's parking 🅿 meters too! I love that idea! I know what it is like to be in court and have to constantly run out and put more money in the my meter every two hours.
The guy on the bike follows parking officers hoping to get to the meter before they manage to get out of their car and walk back to the meter; but then his plan is ruined by the fact that rather than challenge him in an exciting race to the meter, they simply write the ticket basing on what they already saw. Great, great injustice.
this is literally no different than if you're spotted by police while driving without a seat belt or driving with a phone in your hand, then before you're stopped you put the phone down and fasten your seat belt... guess what?

In San Francisco, there are certain neighborhoods that have pay stations instead of meters. I parked in a spot in front a store that I had to go to and the pay station in front was out of service. So I ended up walking about a 1/4 block to the next pay station and on the way back, I was already getting a ticket. The parking dude and me had some words.
Me: Why are you giving me a ticket?
Him: Because you didn't pay the meter
Me: I literally just parked there less than a minute ago
Him: Then why didn't you pay the meter
Me: I tried, this pay station is broken so I had to walk to that one (pointing down the block)
Him: Next time pay your meter!
I got his badge number from the ticket, took a picture of the pay station that didn't work. Showed up at the court with the ticket and explained to them what happened. Showed them the time stamped picture of the pay station right in front of my car and they just tossed it out and apologized.
It’s about Money,not justice! We are nothing but their revenue source!
