Indonesia has been producing guitars for years, if not decades. Cort factory is near my city, idk about the other ones. I assume cort also "makes" guitar for squier and epiphone, but don't quote me on that.

I think the profile difference is that the Japanese version has a compound 10"-14" radius fretboard vs flat 13.5" radius on the Indonesian version.

I would like Yamaha to make the Pacifica Standard Plus to have the same color finish and pickguard design as the Pacifica 612 especially the Matte Silk Blue is just gorgeous but retain the current hardware specs.

Has that what I call the modern Japanese single-coil sound. Super crispy, super articulate, top end that teeters on the edge of being harsh or beautiful. Reminds me of my old Jem 7V. I’m really interested in these. I miss my old Jem and I miss that sound
Sounds like my old FGN J-Standard Odyssey, JOS-2-CLG. I couldn't connect with it, so I sold it. The pickups sounded like this, modern, it didn't sound like a classic or vintage Strat. I wonder how I would feel about it now. I wish I still had it, but I don't have much space and must prioritize.

I have an old Yamaha Pacifica 812v made in Korea, is a top notch guitar for the price. I have paid it 400 euro in 2010, and that guitar is still with me and I really love it
Today, you can't get a new Pacifica in the 300 series for that money, so I would hold on to that one too!

I just finished a mod project on a Revstar Element, and if your tight on funds they're hard to beat. I think the Yamaha guitars coming out of Indonesia are the best QC consistency I've seen from that factory. Even at the Element level your getting alot of R&D and technology that makes it into them from the more expensive models. After a complete rebuild with all but the factory bridge and tailpiece being upgraded. I can honestly say it turned out better than I'd expected. I had 80% of the parts already, and only ended up buying one pickup for it, the SH-16 for the neck, had a Distortion for the bridge.

I bought a used 612 series, pristine, fully loaded from the factory for $300. Great guitar and I doubt i'll ever sell it, purely from the value perspective
Picked up a old Pacifica 412 off marketplace few years back with SD pups and sperzel tuners for £150!
Now that they've got a superstar player, they've gone a little crazy with the prices!

I’ve had a Yamaha Pacifica PAC311H for years now and I’m so happy it’s finally getting the love it deserves! Such an amazing, versatile guitar. Bought it used for 200 now it’s worth 400!
I think they are so cool. If I hadn't recently bought a guitar I would have gladly waited on this to come out and save up for it. I think Yamaha just makes quality stuff. It's too bad a lot of guitarists are just too snobbish and traditionalist to give it a go.
I know how you feel. As iconic as Fenders/Gibsons/Martins are, sometimes I feel weighted by that status and at times I feel some ppl have it to look cool. These days I more so want to have a good quality and reliable guitar that I can afford and Yamahas (acoustic and electric) have been fulfilling that need for me. Plus I feel more like myself with my Yamahas rather than trying to emulate my heroes.

Thanks for the in depth video. Personally I'm excited to see the Pacificas get a refresh. I can't count how many young guitarists I've recommended the Pacifica to as a first guitar. I think the price is probably what we'll e be seeing for a nicely appointed guitar now. 20 years ago you would have spend a lot more money (relative to inflation) to get what these guitars offer at this price point.
The pickups sound more chimey and less warm than the K-line pickups, but not in a bad way.
i gigged a pacifica 912 recently. i liked it. can't wait to try the new one.
FYI, the 912's had a compound radius neck, possibly made by Warmoth. I don't think these new Pacifica s have that. But, they have the better designed neck joint and of course some very nice pickups. I love the old 512/712/912's. A lot of guitar for not a lot of money.

You're doing justice with these reviews. Excellent quality and demonstration. I don't know what amp and pedals you're using, but your setup is sounding fantastic. Interesting how people always expect Yamahas to be on the cheap side even for top notch instruments. Some say "if I'm gonna spend $2000, I'll buy a Gibson or Fender". Well, to get Fender to match the quality of a Japanese $2000 Yamaha you have to spend $3500. Not kidding.

The pickups sound good, and glad to see they're the same on both models, but since Neve are new to pickups, it remains to be seen if they'll gain traction or if they'll sell standalone.
The old Pacifica 1421 or 1412 from I think early 90s or so was great - neck through, maple top, locking trem. Gorgeous guitars. I think these take another step in a good direction.

Really great playing and tone! There seems to be an edge in pick-up clarity. Each note punches through the chord mixes. Perhaps that could be a bit of the resonant chambering in the body coming through the quality pick-ups. I am familiar with Yamaha SS frets with my Revstar. Yamaha is reaching a long stride lately, not just with their custom shop QC in Japan but also in Indonesia.

I owned a Yamaha Pacifica 212. They are just great guitars. Those pickups are so expressive and balanced.
I think it sounds nice. I like the look because it’s more unique than a star body with HSS like Suhr or so many brands do. I’d like to check one out sometime. I play a Yamaha acoustic that performs waaaaay above its pay grade.
Definitely will be getting a lefty in the pro model!

I was very excited for these, and when I heard there was a standard model, I was somewhat expecting it to be under $1000. If they updated the 612 model that you showed, and mainly focused on the aesthetics like knobs, pick guard, and the bevel arm cut, then I would definitely pull the trigger in a heartbeat on a $600-800 model; it’s just hard for me personally to rationalize that big purchase with my income and how long I’d have to save for.
Still really cool, just a price thing for me.
I think that's fair, for me personally I felt like the Pacifica range was missing this upper end stuff so I'm glad they've added something else. If you look at the Revstar they have 3 tiers, the Element, Standard and Professional - I wouldn't be surprised if the Pacifica range continues to develop a little over time?
@@johnnathancordyyeah this is VERY exciting for me as a Yamaha fan. I was already saving for the 612 in either that sweetwater exclusive matte blue or the transparent red finish with the flamed top. Now though, I am wondering if I should just be patient and wait for these things to potentially trickle down the tier as I would expect them to want to standardize the production of them all to a degree.
fyi, this sells for around 600 in Indonesia. So, if you can find a way to buy it from indonesian retailer, it would fit your budget

Great demo - beautiful, musical playing. I've always loved Pacificas - they just feel and sound so 'right'. Younger viewers might not know how the Pacifica 112 totally raised the standard for beginner/intermediate guitars in the early 1990s. I've always respected Yamaha for giving that sector of the market a better instrument, which led to other companies having to up their game. These new Pacificas look and sound even better than my 612, so I'll probably have to get one. The only thing I'd change is the string trees - bring back the Graph Tech ones!
Stainless steel frets is the best choice nowadays ❤❤❤
I'm all for longer lasting frets, but stainless steel frets just sound harsh to me, and don't have that soft compressed sound that nickle has. Also they may last longer, but maybe your strings will wear faster too.

Seems to me that Yamaha is really pushing to become a major player by delivering interesting guitars that aren't simply Strat or Gibson knockoffs. These new Pacificas and Revstars are quality instruments at a very fair price.
Id Like to see Sales stats as really Yamaha guitars are global sellers , Its just That they Sell under the radar - I have 4 Yamahas , 2 Les Paul’s and 4 strats , 5 prs and others so hmmm
If I didn't already have a music man cutlass, i would seriously be looking at these new Yamahas to fill that "modern S-style guitar" niche. Aesthetically and spec-wise, I think I like them more than the Ibanez AZs.
I might go for the Japanese model for the compound radius neck. Already considering moving 2 of my guitars to pay for it.

I love your playing and also the tone you get at the beginning. What do use to get that tone? I’ve mostly played clean so don’t know much about pedals and such.
I still think out of those 2 the 612 is the better purchase for the money, I was looking into getting one but just got my beginner 112 from 20 years ago set up and it sounds and plays ridiculously well so probably will just stick with that!
Has anyone else noticed how many brands (mainstream or new) have driven towards the boutique market? I like that the competition has made premium features (roasted neck, stainless steel frets, locking tuners etc.) more accessible at a cheaper cost.
But the thing is high end guitars may cost around the same as each other but the build quality and design of some brands really outshine the rest. It’ll be interesting to see if Yamaha have done something really great here or if it’s just another Ibanez AZ tier coming to the market.

Like it, i think its a tough call for me as its obviously marketed to compete with the Ibanez AZ (i have a az224f-big). Im not sure id chose the Japanese model over a prestige AZ and i will soon in the market for an upgrade, worth a look though.
When using hi gain do the single coils hum? Are they noiseless? How far can the trem be pulled back?

Hi John, wondering if you could check out the Barefaced Reality 112FR. It’s an FRFR speaker with a unique design based off of their other AVD guitar cabs. It’s supposed to have a really fill out a room like a real open back cab, but also do FRFR. Maybe since you’re both in the UK you could borrow a unit?

i bought a $90 012 and 611'd it after like $500 i love this thing bocchi the rock spec with lollar p90 and imperial hb in the brigde i lovee the neck on pacifias i also have a 1004J bass call me a conver now lol
I would be happy with Pacificas if all of the lines had at least a 42mm nut. Thankfully the newest models do and I will look into them. Too bad the current line doesn't.
Still have my first guitar (1995 Pacifica 112), but find the 41mm nut width too narrow now.
What do you think about the extra aging tech in the Japan-made model? That seems to be the main feature upgrade between the two.
I think the Pacifica has always been under-rated. The lower price models offer a lot of features for the money and seem well made. The downside to the Japanese made range is the price. They have a really poor resale value so I’m not sure who they are aimed at. If they’re not really any better why splash the cash? I play a Yamaha electro-acoustic and have gigged it for over 30 years so I’d have to give full marks for Yamahas build quality! I’d get the Indonesian version so I wouldn’t worry about some pollock knocking it over or spilling beer on it at a gig.

Harley Benton are about to release the ST modern which has the same spec level or higher than the Pacifica Professional (compound radius, SS frets, locking tuners, spoke wheel truss adjust, etc) and will cost about 300-400 quid.
Respectfully, I am older than you are. Been around more than long enough, to have played Yamaha electric guitars, as a church musician, jazz/blues/funk band member, writer, producer & engineer. I know their reputation for ridiculously high quality & value, for the money. Also been around more than long enough to know that anything they’ve fielded in the over $1,000 segment, has usually stood head and shoulders above, and even annihilated the competition …at twice, or even three times the price point, and was internationally lauded as the best.
Yet, despite this proven fact, few, if any (and in particular, Western) content creating guitarists, seem willing to openly acknowledge it. They’ll call out its technical points, and perhaps casually compare it to something else from the far east (like the AZ) …but never outright declare that it’s game changing, and blows away its Western competition.
Please don’t take this personally. I’m not digging at you. Rather, it’s an observation. Thx 4 the content.
Their build quality and detail really is top notch. They just have a branding/reputation/marketing challenge they can’t seem to overcome as a Japanese company with their American consumers.

Should have put a matching headstock or roasted maple neck on there, especially at the price of the Professional.
For me ... Way too expensive compared to competition , and there is a lot out there , no doubt of quality of build or parts but if you fall out of love with it , as oft we do , can’t imagine re sale value will be up with equivalent Ibanez or Fender ... I’m not into slim necks , I like a chunky one so probably not for me . I had the mid priced P90 / Humbucker Pacifica 611 , great instrument , but never bonded ( bit like most PRS guitars I’ve owned ) so sold on . Maybe £500 for Indonesian and £1000 for Japanese , would get tempt me to get a shop and try one 🤷♂️ ... a Revstar would be possibly more interesting and better value ?

The Indo (the white one) has a warmer tone. The Japanese is slightly chimier and sounds more strat-like. They are both really nice sounding guitars. Next it comes down to playability and what colour you like. Great Playing by the guitarist which helped too. I re-listened to the video and edited my post to say there is a fuller sustain on the white one. Maybe my imagination but I like it better.
Main difference is the fretboard. I just tested the Standard Plus with both maple and rosewood fretboard and it really made a difference I wouldn’t have liked to notice that much.
Damn! Was really hoping the Standard Plus would be the same price as a Revstar standard. Or DGT SE. Unfortunately a nope from me. Will wait for sales or second hand.

I have an old Pacifica modded to kingdom come. Put in a Wilkinson bridge for a year. Then went for a Floyd non locking like Guthrie and it's worlds apart in terms of sustain and stability. These newer ones are a definite win in my opinion. Giving the Ibanez AZ a run for the money for sure. Especially that Japanese variant. Pickups sound fab.

Damn it another guitar I may end up getting! Is the neck similar in thickness to the Revstar? The Revstar neck is great and the Japanese built one is higher quality for sure. (My main gripe with the Revstars is the sound of the dark tone on the pull switch - I never use it and would like to swap for a coil split on the humbucker version). This looks much more sensible and the coil split sounds far more useful like the PRS SE DGT...
I too don't use that "Focus" switch or whatever it's called - definitely would prefer a coil split. The neck isn't quite as thick as the Revstar I don't think.
For that money I would prefer an Ibanez.

Don't get me wrong I like Steve as Pacifica's have been solid and good value guitars imho.
Thoughts on why the price point is well above the revstar?
The Pro is the same price in both lines. I imagine we'll be seeing a plus version of the Standard for Revstar eventually too, although what they would change to make it plus, I don't know. Maybe Neve pickups lol
If I was in the market to buy a guitar (instead of building them) I'd definitely be buying a Pacifica. I love the shape of them and they are so professionally made. Excellent build quality. The new ones, judging by this video sounds as fabulous as ever. But I think the scratchplate is a bit wierd. The old scratchplate was much better. On the new one the little flick up near the neck is quite poorly shaped, and the straight line 'cutoff' where the controls are is too jarring and it upsets the flow of the sexy curves of the rest of the guitar in a way the old one didn't. Why they couldn't make the straight line into an S curve I don't know. It would have suited much better. But that could always be rectified by a quick mod, post purchase. Just a little thing. But the rest of the guitar, fabulous! Japanese or Indonesian.

I would have much rather they reissued the original 90's MIJ pacificas, A metal focused model would have been nice also
NIce guitar but for a pacifica Indonesian made, these prices are crazy high when you think what you can get say silver sky and dgt se's for nowadays. These need to drop considerably in price before people will think of buying a pacifica which has long been a great BUDGET guitar.
I think the thing is the Pacifica wasn't actually meant to be a budget/entry guitar - that's just how they ended up. For folks that still want the budget Pacifica experience, they're still building those, I think these are supposed to be geared toward the intermediate/professional budget - think like the Ibanez AZ series?

Prices on these models seems really high, IMO. I wouldn't mind seeing resale value on these being terrible as I'd be a buyer on a great used price.
I think they're priced pretty much in line with the Ibanez AZ, which was what I'd expect. £1099 for the Indonesian model, £1800ish for the Japanese?
How would you compare it to Silver Sky SE?
I just played both. Silver Sky is cheaper at the moment. Yamaha has way better specs, SE Silver Sky hasn‘t got locking tuners for example. Pots, vibrato, frets, colors… that all goes to the Pacifica.
But: I played 4 Silver Skys: USA Core and 3 same asian ones. Two were worse than the Yamahas, but one was such a killer I‘d have chosen it over the core model. Lightweight, and super resonant. This apparently was the one hundreds of people have been playing at the big store. This is what the japanese Pacifica Pro simulates. Guitars need to establish their sound and that‘s more difficult on cheap ones. All indonesian guitars I played out of the box were dead.
Because I love how it‘s spec‘d, I‘ll get a Pacifica and make it come alive, but man, I still think about that one Silver Sky that felt and sounded incredible - I didn‘t but it because it is super ugly in the color of pus. And I don‘t like fretboard radii below 10“ and need a Gotoh 510.
@@mbaraka92 Thanks for the detailed answer. My main concern is if Pacifica can have vintage enough sound because it makes no sense to change pickups on the guitar that has those special new pickups. Looking for strat for blues/rock, but would like to avoid Fender. So what would be your pick if you would buy now? Would you gamble with SS SE or buy Pacifica Standard Plus (not Japanese)?

Must be product drop day considering the number of these videos that showed up this morning. Looks like the machine cutting out the pick guards has malfunctioned and is chopping off the bottom left side.
These should have replaced the 612's
The Rev feels like a deal, this guitar seems like a stretch for $1350. If it were 999 I would be all in.
For me I think the Japanese model is the way I'd be leaning, I reckon the pricing could move over time though - interesting to see what other folks think when they hit stores

No doubt it is a fine instrument. Unfortunately price is way too high. I can afford it but there is nothing that makes me wanna buy it. I’ll wait till they start blowing this off.
Can't ever see paying more than 800.00 for an Indonesian guitar much less $1200.00 not when I know they're paying a fifth of the labor cost than Japan or the US .
While I'm admittedly a yellow finish/floyd rose fan, I'm glad to see them bringing back the higher spec options. I generally prefer the middle PU in the standard posish on HSS instead of this more neckward placement. They're probably combining the neckside coil of the bridge PU with the middle, which makes sense, like the Sfogli model Charvel. The reverse headstock on the proto was cooler and Nunoier IMO. I love the gloss finish. To me all those modern satin finishes give off the idea that the guiar itself is made of plastic. Vintage nitro that has dulled is one thing, but laser precise xmas tree ornament satin appears cheap to me. So the gloss black/white PG tuxedo look and this here classic milkiness are appealing to me as well. Great all around and with Mancuso also among their champions, surely 2024 will see more Yamaha in the feeds.
As far as the new Yamaha guitars go….. it’s going to be a long climb up that hill to get people to pay €2000 for a Pacifica of any sort. Other than just for nostalgia reasons. I have no doubt they are superb quality, just a stereotypical issue….Hope they do very well.

ビレリ、ラグレーンの様に、動画より下位グレードのパシフィカ６１１を好んで使う世界的プロもいます。
最終的には好みですが、ブランドに騙されないで、良いものを選べるかどうかは、自分自身次第です。

ギブソンやフェンダーほどではありませんが、YAMAHAでも、中古が販売時の定価の何倍にもなっているギターが沢山ありますし、プレミア付いているギターもあります。
再販の場合は、市場の流通量と、人気で価格が決まるので微妙なところです。
ギブソンでも、フェンダーでも人気のないモデルもありますし、YAMAHAは質が高いので時間の経過と共に、徐々に認められていくと個人的には考えます。
日本製は月産の生産数もあまり多くないと思われ、2024/7月の時点でバックオーダーの数すごくて、日本では受注中止の状態で手に入りません。
（バックオーダーがある程度消化され、受注を受け付ける様になるにはもう少しかかりそうです）
