The duel ended immediately because Musashi stepped forward and immediately BONKED Sasaki on the head, stunning him, and then bonked him to death.
The fight is based on Miyamoto Musashi's duel with Sasaki Kojiro in which both met on an island, referenced in game as the small boat, and faced off with Kojiro weilding a sword and Musashi a wooden oar. Mushashi of course won the duel with said wooden oar.
The fight and the character I think draws very heavily from Musashi's life which is amazing. The duelist/self improving mentality of the edge, along with all of the weapons in his phases being in likeness to the way he was said to fight. It's a really tasteful homage to a great warrior legend.

This fight was much for me like the Alice Twilight battle in NMH 2, an honorable battle where in the next you realize that nothing else matters anymore. You've been killing mindlessly and look where it got you.
"Is there anything else you want to show me? Or is that it? " Like I'm done with you you afro-headed pro- motivational samurai. It's like The Stranger is fighting his teacher, The Edge.
I realized I had been playing it wrong after this guy. Alone I can train the version of me that I see inside. The edge trained the versions of me everyone else sees instead. I had been playing by rules nobody had ever written. I had allowed my perspective to bond me to a reality that wasn't really there, but I needed it to be to protect my ego. That's what he meant by fighting ourselves. I kept myself from becoming the best of me.
I like that the other guardians who fight Rider tell him how much of a horrible person he is and wishes the worst for him or try to fix him. Then there's The Edge who just wants to have a good fight with him and nothing else, that's probably the reason why he took the position as another guardian
The Edge embodies a principle of shotokan karate (and, I assume, other martial arts): that if your opponent is lesser than you, you have nothing to gain from fighting him, and if your opponent is greater than you, then you have no chance of winning, so there is no point in fighting him. But if your opponent is your equal, both of you can improve by fighting, regardless of who wins and who loses. Of course in this case losing means dying, but what The Edge really wanted was for one of you to come out of this fight better. Regardless of who it was.
So his quote: “Excellence is not an art, it's pure habit. We are what we repeatedly do." is literally his fight: you don't need any strategy, you don't need fancy charged attacks: all you need is pure habit: The edge has very clear patterns and you can learn them, for example: when he spins his sword a little he will do an attack of two delayed hits, and when he just takes his sword near his chest it will be a 3 combo attack (if i am not mistaken cuz i played this game like a month ago)
After several boss fights of the bosses constantly gaslighting you, it was such a relief to face a boss who actually respects you and wants you to do your best

I enjoyed this fight although it kinda pissed me off whenever he'd just randomly fake an attack. Also the final phase was a little hard to me due to the damage he deals from ons attack. I like his design and character and it was a cool no particle spam fight. Just a 1v1 sword/paddle fight.
just fought this guy, such a great battle. The only bs was the timing on some of his parries where you may expect a strike to come but it does later. Get the reads and you got him down. His ground waves were pretty bs at first, but you could dodge back after you dodge one. Which helped a lot
+Naruga Kuruga it's not really bs any more. I originally thought that because before this boss, the other bosses had very fast timing between the flash and the strike. Whereas this boss' strikes came a little later than I anticipated. So it threw me off a bit there at first, but I got over it. The ground waves too, at first I thought I could just dash forward over them, but the limited space kinda screwed me over for that, but dashing back after going over the wave gave me enough room to dodge the next wave. In short, I did adjust to the boss' patterns and the challenge wasn't that bad. And quite frankly, this boss is my favourite.
Currently on this boss. Probably my favorite character. The Stranger is my second, followed by the Donnie Darko bunny and Ned Stark. I like the Burst's character design...damn they are all cool looking.
Can't say this was my favorite fight, since the dual phases of any boss tend to just boil down to parry/dodge timing then mashing the attack button, but I think it's great how he just ditches the sword for an oar halfway through and goes "how predictable am I *now?*"
The egde best boss ever on furier he is a true challange and this focus he says in last Phase reminds me of my Training partner in sword fighting and this Focus provoced me to surpass him i beat him without any damage

You won with one hp, that's very satisfying, what i wanted to see. To memorize his attacks and pass without damage is like insulting him and those feelings that you get when you first fight him. This battle must be close to the Edge.
Honestly, this is the only boss that keeps pulling me back to this game. The only reason it's still installed. The only one i feel good to be annoyed about.
When he picked up the wooden oar, that's when you knew shit just got real. It's time for one last clash. If you lose, you most likely disappoint him by not being that strong after all. But if you win, then you are one step closer to freedom, and the Edge will have had the greatest fight of his life.
I don't understand why people say he's one of the hardest boss in the game. Compared to the other I've fought I'd actually say he's of the top 3 easiest. For me the scale was the hardest one it took me like 3 days to defeat him. Edit: it's ironic that in the 3rd phase he says "Let's see how predictable you think I am" when his attack pattern gets even more predictable after that.
It depends on the players ability to parry and react which if you have played similar games like mgr or devil may cry will already be skills you’ve learned and used
It’s funny cause this guy is basically the last chance humanity has at stopping him physically. The people who built the place knew he was the best chance they had so they kept him last. The other girl is of course just a guilt type thing
I prefer thinking that he passed out from exhaustion at the end. His personality is the polar opposite of The Burst, acting like a teacher instead of mocking you. If The Burst were to take The Stranger serious from the beginning, the bossfight would've been even more difficult. It wasn't your blade that killed her, it was her arrogance.
By the time I reached this boss I found him to be the second easiest boss in the game, the easiest being boss 9 (The Beat) which comes afterwards. Seriously this one was over very quickly for me.
Best fight. IMO The Bullet hell sections in this game sucked. There was too much to dodge, not enough time to dodge, and barely any damage to counter well, even if you got to counter at all. This guy doesn't have any shooting bullshit. He fights you one on one. He doesn't let you get another hit, and he attacks so quickly the first 2 phases can be over in seconds (I got the "Speedrunner" achievement fighting this guy by accident). But never is he unfair. Every attack can be parried, every move, dodged. He's what all the bosses should've been, a quick and close melee fight interspersed with bullet hells, instead of bullet hellholes interspersed with melee.
Don't play boss rushes inspired by two-stick arcade shoot'em'ups then if you don't like bullet hells. The game wasn't intended for people like you. It doesn't need to change how it was designed bcz "i think it should be this way" it was intentionally a bullet hell. Don't like it? Just move on and buy a different game next time.
feels like he didnt want to kill you, he was using a wooden paddle while u had a sword. Even though I struggle with this guy he's pretty good boss. Teaches you how to parry and half charge.
Now i see. You deny your weapon on its purpose! It yearns the bathe of your enemies. But you hold it *back.* imagine if the edge was voiced by Rodrigue the one who voiced Samuel on MGR:V
I can't for the fucking life of me get past this fucking boss thanks to the bullshit 'waves' he does on the final phase. Fuck I've never been so god damn angry at a boss.
Dodge forward past one, then dodge backward immediately to space yourself for the next one, as seen in the video. The timing is a little weird, but certainly doable.

And on his last refill too it was extremely close
Honestly, this is the only boss that keeps pulling me back to this game. The only reason it's still installed. The only one i feel good to be annoyed about.
Somehow this fight remains me of Jetsream Sam
When he picked up the wooden oar, that's when you knew shit just got real. It's time for one last clash. If you lose, you most likely disappoint him by not being that strong after all. But if you win, then you are one step closer to freedom, and the Edge will have had the greatest fight of his life.
Thsi fight would go perfect with “the only thing i know for real”
The other girl is of course just a guilt type thing
is the edge representing musashi miyamoto ?
3:39 there goes your spam
So weird that its better to do a regular parry than a perfect one in the last 2 phases
I prefer thinking that he passed out from exhaustion at the end.
His personality is the polar opposite of The Burst, acting like a teacher instead of mocking you. If The Burst were to take The Stranger serious from the beginning, the bossfight would've been even more difficult. It wasn't your blade that killed her, it was her arrogance.
i died 3 times in second boss i closed game watched this 1 munite i will play again to see this boss
Honestly he didn’t do to bad considering there’s a lot of tight timing in this fight and running this at 4K adds a ton of input lag for some reason
yay i love jat stream sam
By the time I reached this boss I found him to be the second easiest boss in the game, the easiest being boss 9 (The Beat) which comes afterwards. Seriously this one was over very quickly for me.
3:17 me playing poke unite with absol
2:19
ain't no way it escalated to mortal kombat
this fight prepared me for sekiro
Why is he wielding a boat paddle that people use to fish
You were predicting his sword strikes too well, so he needed to change things up a bit.
Kellby Benson what're you saying
That you were predicting his sword strikes too well, so he needed to change things up a bit.
But, you don't fish with boat paddles.
Cyanide
speak for yourself
Am i the only one who saw the references to Miyamoto Musashi?
Beat the burst first try and been on this fucking dude for 3 hours not making it past phase 2
Album Interpretations i rather fight this then be stuck on the burst
If you had to fight every boss 1 on 1 with no range or AOE it would be boring af.
Is this boss voiced by Netherim?
Ow the edge
feels like he didnt want to kill you, he was using a wooden paddle while u had a sword. Even though I struggle with this guy he's pretty good boss. Teaches you how to parry and half charge.
Is there really no comments or is it my phone
On the dame sniper lady must get to this boss
Now i see.
You deny your weapon on its purpose!
It yearns the bathe of your enemies.
But you hold it *back.*
imagine if the edge was voiced by Rodrigue
the one who voiced Samuel on MGR:V
This game looks harder than dark souls
Actually Cyborg Noodle is a Bae furier is probably harder then dark souls
I can't for the fucking life of me get past this fucking boss thanks to the bullshit 'waves' he does on the final phase.
Fuck I've never been so god damn angry at a boss.
Dodge forward past one, then dodge backward immediately to space yourself for the next one, as seen in the video. The timing is a little weird, but certainly doable.
Easier than the others I found. I got on the the last stage at my third attempt.
