Thanks for posting this video it was very informative. I always have a problem balancing the light on my subject to light on canvas utilizing one light instead of two should solve this problem.

This is a real problem that I had trying to set up a still life in my "studio". I have a lot of lights in my ceiling of my basement where I have set up my studio. So on the still life, light is everywhere and no real shadows even though I do also have a spotlight shining on the still life. But when I turn off my overhead lights, it is too dark to see how to paint. I only have two small windows in the basement that lets in a little bit of natural light, but I'm often painting in the early mornings or at night.

In the room I paint in should I turn off my overhead room light and just use the light over my easel and the light for the still life?
