You should put some bio rings behind your penguin cartridge that you change. You can also rip out the blue pad take out the carbon in which you dont really need and use a fluval c 5 pad that you can wash in aquarium water and use over and over use the plastic black part of the cartridge to post it against. If you cant find a c5 foam pad Marineland sells bonded filter padding in which you can cut to size. Hope this helps.

Sayan Bera is it on the surface or under the sand? I recommend after you siphon the sand out to clean it with hydrogen peroxide and then rinse it off well before putting it back in the tank.
