    WD40 dissolves not just the tar but the actual paintwork. On this lovely white car, spray a little on the bodywork and wipe away with a black cloth - you will be amazed how much white you would take down (along with the tar :) ). This would mean you took down not just the protective lacquer but the paint under it too. From that point onwards, this particular spot would be like a magnet for grime that would be difficult to wash away as it sits directly on the white main coat.

      We researched it quite a bit and the verdict was that it was safe. Still seems great and had no adverse effects.

      Wd40 wouldn't chew through the clear coat that fast... If she wants that car back white " that's if the brown from the tar has stained the clear coat" then she needs to buff and Polish the clear coat... The " white paint" is fine and still protected.. it's the clear coat that would need correction....
