Honestly I love the 2.5. I get almost 700 miles on a single tank when im road trippin. I only wish you had the option to get the Harmon Kardon sound system in there.

Counting down until June 2020. The month my current Subaru Legacy lease is up and I can get my hands on what is clearly the 2020 car of the year.

I have a 2020 Premium, it can be shut off going through the settings on the main touchscreen. But it doesn't always turn off. There's a bunch of criteria for the engine to auto shut off. It won't do it in the cold, it won't do it when the engine is cold, and there's a bunch of other variables for the engine to auto shut off. Also the engine turns back on when the brake is released and not pressing on the gas like some other cars. I've had mine for about 4 weeks and so far loving it.

This car with a good transmission might be best in class.

You are great with the amount of information and detail in your reviews (and chill, low-key delivery) but you surprisingly missed going over the throttle mapping buttons on the steering wheel with the Intelligent (normal/eco) and Sport settings available only in the Legacy Sport model tested (also in some WRX, Forester Sport and Impreza Sport models). Granted, this is a CVT non-turbo and thus not all that sporty but would have been cool to see if you were able to discern any performance difference in the different settings. Other than that great review.

No way I’ll buy a CVT vehicle. Just purchased the ‘20 Toyota Camry SE Nightshade Edition AWD (Silver). It has a REAL transmission, more horsepower than the Legacy and Toyota reliability. If the Legacy has a Jatco CVT, they’re in BIG trouble.

I just test drove one today. It had a buzzing noise in the passenger door which was annoying. However, the worst part was the auto start/stop. I was at a red light and the engine shut itself off and turned itself back on twice. When it restarted, the engine shuddered violently and you could feel it throughout the car. You can turn off this feature, but it goes back to the default "on" position every time you turn off the car.

This was going to be my fifth Subaru but I was kind of disappointed with the CVT transmission matching the XT( GT) turbo engine, the CVT is too slow, also when you drive, you hear the road noise, I thought the windows were down. Audi has excellent promotion on 2019 A4 , so I went for it, my A4 Komfort Quattro monthly lease is less than what I would have paid for Legacy (Xt) GT limited ( 2nd top trim). Maybe if Audi didn't have this deal, I would have got a Legacy. Already have a Crosstrek, very nice ride.

Subaru's CEO admired Tesla's tablet in the car, so they tried their own tablet in the car. If you like a split display it works fine, but there are a lot of submenus that make using it while driving not the easiest to use. Also, the base engine lacks acceleration so merging onto a fast moving highway with a short ramp is going to be a huge challenge. I should know - tried it on the Merritt Parkway in CT and I almost got run off the road trying to accelerate on the short ramp.

Appreciate your review. But you barely mention the performance. Can you add some color here about how you felt it handled? CVT and 182 horses is what it is. But you seemed surprised with the pick up. Can you say more? I am very interested in this model as the price point may be the “sweet spot” in the line up.

I was very close to getting a 2020 Legacy Limited but chose the Accord Sport 2.0T. It’s just a way more engaging car with pep. The handling for a sedan is second to none in its class, IMO. The Legacy will a be bit more ‘comfortable’ but the engine/transmission/CVT noise is a bit loud as it also got stuck in some rpms. However, that Limited on the inside was really impressive. The quality of the leather and the overall styling inside was super sharp. The Limited also had a Harmon-Kardon system that destroys what I have in the Accord. I just preferred a more simple cabin but a more engaging and fun car to drive in the Accord. The giant infotainment screen was a bit much for me too. I think it’s a fine car. Just not for me and I don’t see many on the road either.

16:38 I sure couldn't judge the sound system based on the crap you played.
When I drove one today, I tuned in a local radio station and I thought the sound was really bad. The reception was terrible even though it was tuned to the most powerful local FM station.

A Subaru is a great car for a new driver. Not sure what your price range is but if I were you I would be looking at a cheaper older model that you could pick up for 5 grand or less. You could be loaded and I would still suggest that because chances are your kid will terrorize hes or her first car anyway.
