The base station is the weakest most idiotic design choice for the Astra a50. I much prefer a dongle. I also do not use the base station to charge. It's dreadfully slow. Instead I plug a micro usb directly into the headset and it charges to full very very quickly. Setting up the a50 with my Series X was a nightmare. I spent about 4 hours trying everything, eventually it worked, but boy was it a pain. You need the latest firmware and the Dolby Atmos app on the xbox and then you need to make sure that the Xbox picks up that a headset is present and assigned when you plug in the base station (usb A into the XSX and micro usb to the base station). Then you have to license the darn dolby app, and then eventually you get to use them... for 2 years with the provided license. For all of the hassle that you need to go through with the Astros for both the PC and Xbox, I say they need to be priced much much lower. Overall I still believe they have the best sound I've experienced, however the pain, price and base station weigh up against overall user experience. I got mine for a reduced price, so it was less painful, but these should be at that reduced price permanently.
For anyone who thinks that virtual surround sound is a gimmick.....buy the HyperX Cloud Orbit. It's the gamer centric version of the Audeze Mobius. The sound stage advantage in games like warzone is unparalleled by any headset. The Penrose is capable of the exact same thing as hardware wise they are identical with the exception of the mic. The Orbit comes with Nx Waves for virtual surround sound. The same software can be downloaded for $20 and used on the Penrose which gives it the exact same effect. If you are buying a $150-$250 headset with 50mm dynamic drivers and dolby atmos and are surprised they don't really do much it's because the dynamic drivers do not remotely have the legs to accurately present a sound stage. This is where the planarmagnetic drivers absolutely shine. Oddly enough I tested the Corsair Virtuoso XT this evening and they are a great headset but the audio quality is laughable in comparison to the Penrose. He was very nice to the A50s in regards to gaming performance because the Penrose makes the A50s sound like a tin can. All dynamic driver headsets for gaming sound like muddy ugly base. If anyone here is considering the Penrose but is worried about the virtual audio options, you can download literally every software (Atmos, DTS, THX, Waves etc) and apply it to the headset. The Penrose X with Nx Waves is the equivalent to when LG put gsync on their C9 series OLED TV. It's taking something meant for someone who wants superb quality and then adding in a gamer centric feature that boosts the product to an untouchable status.
How's the battery life on the penrose x? Isnt the base station for a50 more convenient for a wireless headset since u basically never have to 'plug it in'
@@FARASATX Battery life I would say is average for a wireless gaming headset. The experience however is unparalleled by any other gaming headset period. That isn't from an audiophile type review either. I have had the Penrose now for a year and am completely blown away still. I use mine for many hour gaming sessions and throw the plug in it when I am finished. The A50 is such an abortion of sound quality it could literally have infinite battery life and I wouldn't care. Sounds like an exaggeration but it's true.
Astro A50 works fine on xbox series x. I've been using it since launch. They had information about a firmware update out for a while before the system even launched. I updated weeks before xbox series x launched. If you used the astro software on pc the firmware should auto update and they will work on xbox series consoles.
I also did this update. However, I play on an LG Oled for the Hdmi 2.1 connectivity. I can still bring my optical audio from the TV Thank God! because just for tests i tried only USB with the Xbox and BOY was their a HUGE difference. USB only is leaving so much audio quiality on the table. Sorry to ruin it for you, but if you dont believe me, find a way to get Optical to your Astros and make sure dolby is turned on and you will see the difference !
@@cyberneticmonstrosity so if you plug your a50 to your PC and update the firmware. It will allow the audio to come from your Xbox with the Astros USB cable. However, compared to the Optical audio cable the sound quality is not as good. If you play from a TV use the optical cable from your tv into your Astros and that will be your best option .
@@EaglesRback33 yep, One is an award winning headphone manufacturer that produces some of the best cans on the planet. The other makes gaming peripherals.
There was a firmware update that came out same day for the Astro A40s and A50s. It was for the docks and mixamps so that they worked with the Series X and S via USB.
I finally got my hands on an Audeze Penrose headset, got the S version for PlayStation. Never hear planar magnetic headphones before. This is WiLD! I do listen to music while playing multiplayer or non story games like GT7. It's a must, got my own playlists for GT or Competitive games.
Great review. Super informative. Thank you. Would you recommend the Penrose over the SteelSeries Arctic 7X for the Series X? I’m looking for a top pair of headphones that sound amazing, with no connection, reliability or latency issues. Many thanks for your help. 🙏🏻
Just to answer your question, I do have the Astro 50, if you have a series X you need to connect the optical cable to the TV and then connect the TV to the docking station. Change the TV output to external and it works. However in my tests, the audio quality is not there. So thank you for the review as this convinced me to get the Pendrose X
I own the Audeze Penrose.. playing COD and an AC30 rains down and the bass was absurd... these headphones are galaxies infront of anything else.. Music on these are excellent as well
I’m looking for a new headset since I have the Astro A50 gen 3 and looking around for options but you can plug it in via USB and hear the sound fine but I still feel like the optical sounds better but you can connect the optical from the base station to your TV and it sounds the same as when I had it plugged into my Xbox one before upgrading to the Series X as an FYI if you didn’t know for future reviews
Playing multiplayer games I tend to turn off in game music too. I usually listen to podcasts, sometimes Spotify. I'm tempted on these Audeze Penrose since it can do double duty at once or just individually.
Yeah, I'm a fan of listening to something else while I'm playing online MP. Most of the time the people playing MP with headsets are talking all kinds of nonsense, LOL!
One of the best reviews I have watched!! Thanks for the great info and I'm planning on listening to your tracks. Just got the Penrose last week and love them. Also have the Drop PC38X which all a slight bit better for gaming.
Hi Mark! I'm glad you liked the video. you're going to like the headphones, the sound quality is super detailed and no distortion at all! Demo Tracks - Tidal - bit.ly/2IxZzKO Spotify - spoti.fi/2Rnv4dv
The replacement pads for the mobius fit the penrose if you don't like the green (or blue for ps users) Great review. Also if you're on a budget the hyperx cloud obrbit and orbit s are made by audeze and are wired versions of the penrose and mobius. They can usually be found on sale.
Oh wow, I didn't know the Orbit is made by Audeze, that's cool to know! Thank you for watching and helping others with their questions. Audeze sent me some headphones that are pretty nice.
@@spazco8669 I am aware that they share the same specs, but they do not reproduce sound identically, and I was not able to easily "tune" out the difference. I am not dumping on the Orbits at all, just relating that in my experience, the Mobius does sound different, and to me (amongst others) better. I am using my backup headset which atm are HyperX clouds, and I will dump on them, because I have become accustomed to far better. Even my stereo setup with Magni/Modi and HD58x is better.... but I digress.
Been watching your videos for awhile wanted to say keep up the good work and I'm also curious to see if you could eventually do a comparison to the newer b&o portal and the Penrose x as that's one of the main things I care about is sound quality but I have yet to find anyone really comparing these two
Solid job by the Dad! Seriously, better details given, with fewer biases or preconceptions than even most of the "pro" audio reviewers. I really want 7.1, so I prefer the Mobius to the Penrose, but they have very similar drivers and comparable sound... and its better than anything I have tried under $500 or so, and reliably reproduces quality better than anything else I have tried, as you noticed while gaming and streaming music. I am currently slumming with some crappy HyperX cloud cans. They do the job, but I hate them. Which brings up a word of caution for all... like many other headphones on the market, the Audeze gaming headsets have a weak area between the headband and the driver, at the swivel joint. These WILL break if dropped. Its a matter of time. This isnt an unusual weakness, I have broken many headsets in that same general area, but none I valued as much as the Audeze! The HyperX's will be a dusty backup once I replace my Mobius... for the 3rd time.
Thank you so much, Tannji! I noticed everyone seems to love the HyperX Clouds and Clouds 2. Audeze sent me some of their Hi-Fi headphones and I'm excited to check those out.
@@TechnoDad I don't know how much of a difference there is from USB vs Optical (looking up the difference led nowhere tbh), but I wanted to keep the optical on my A40's. I ended up running the optical cable to my tv, USB to my Series X. No lag.
Thanks a lot for this video. My friend recommended Astros, but I can't plug them into my KVM switch... And now you've pointed out that they're not even Bluetooth and if I upgraded my Xbox I couldn't use them... Why pay $300 and inconvenience myself
A50 has a hdmi adapter with a optical input for 40 dollars on Astro website. I got one for my Ps5, and I took it off I ran the Optical cable to the opt out on my oled works that way. Also I think a50 has a update for Xbox for the usb for sound
Correction, the Astro a50 DOES support the series s and X. Although the process to get them setup is NOT as Astro described on their blog. Firmware update is required, Dolby Atmos App is required and the Xbox needs to be able to recognise the headset is plugged in and assigned to the gamer profile. Only then will it work.
Yes, it works but doesn't sound good even with the setup you described. You need to run an optical audio extractor between your TV or receiver to the base station to be able to use the EQ and make it sound good.
Which is better Audeze Penrose X or Articis 7X Appreciate any feedback and honesty as the Penrose X are expensive. Currently have Steelseries 7X due to my A50 gen3s dropped in quality after the generation upgrade. You can use them with USB after a firmware update, but they are not the same quality as before when using optical cable. I loved my Astro A50s, I would have recommended them to anyone but not now. Not currently feeling the 7X matches what I had with A50s, although its early days and different doesn't necessarily mean worse.
Penrose are far better in sound quality. If you looking for a cheaper alternative, for around $100 the Phillips SHP9500+V-Moda BoomPro is a great choice and also has better sound (and amazing soundstage) then the A50's.
Hmm. I like the review. But kind of worried. I have the Astro a50. Gen 4. And I wish you update this review with updating you headset and try the Astro app on the Xbox series X to see if it changes your mind. Penrose has my eye on it but need to know if sounds and performance still beats it after update.
I know this is really old but I have to say that the Gen 3 is always work right out the box for the Astro A50 so it's probably because you plug both in but all you do is plug the USB and it worked from launch
Thank you for taking the time to make this great review. I just purchased the Penrose X but I’m on the fence on whether I should return it and purchase the Sony XM4s as an alternative as I want a pair of headphones that can be portable for music on the go and also do well for gaming. I realize the XM4s would need to be wired through the AUX input on the controller but that’s not really a big deal since I can equip a great mic with it like the VMODA boom mic pro. Curious to see what your thoughts would be in terms of sound quality differences between the two. Do you think there would be a big difference? I’m not an audiophile by any means so I value your input here.
Are you planing to review the Pioneer VSX LX 505 ? Debating between the LX 505 & the Denon x4700h there’s really no reviews on the new pioneers. What’s your take on that. Thanks.
Hi TD! So have the Penrose X taken over the steel series artic 7 white for your ps5? Do you still like your artic 7 white? Do you find the actic 7 white comfy and non fatiguing. I see what you mean about that 27uk850w monitor not being certified hdr 400, i realised i had the 27ul850w monitor which is certified hdr 400 and about the only difference compared to 27uk850w. The penrose x look like a good option but that hundred 100 extra in australia, u think its really worth it?
Penrose X ($299) vs Xbox Wireless Headset ($99). How big is the difference in terms of sound quality and special gaming features (7.1 sound, lags etc). Will I really benefit from paying 3x more for the Penrose X? Thanks!
I updated my A50’s via the firmware and connected them to the micro usb. Works most of the time; however, from time to time have to go through resets on the series x to get them to connect. Kinda frustrating. Also, when you have them plugged in, you can’t use Dolby atmos on you’re home theater through Xbox’s software. There’s been some forums on this topic but pretty lame to spend $300 on the Astros then thousands on a home theater to have to manual up plug the base station when using atmos setup.
They discontinued my 7.1 elite 800x , and those for 7.1 wers my fave im really interested in the Penrose x but what is the build quality or issue's like with them? I hate returning headsets .
the Penrose do not have 7.1. If thats a must, the Mobius would be your choice, albeit for an additional $100. The audio will be better on the Audeze cans tho.
@@Chevalier_knight Its an option, and if you havent tried the Mobius, you might like it. I gamed with Atmos on my Senheisers for a while, but after I used Mobius, I would rather use a quality stereo setup than Atmos, which is disappointing.
Have you ever tried the Beyerdynamic MMX 300? That is what I use now, and I've had them for a few years. I'm trying to decide if I should purchase the Penrose X.
You can use the A50's on the series x, but you have to run the optical to your TV optical port or have to use an HDMI audio extractor. Also, Astro updated the firmware to use audio and video chat through the micro USB, but it disables the presets on the base station
@@TechnoDad yeah, that is the downside to astros, no bluetooth, but the presets that you can download from creators on reddit made the deal for me.. Plus, no one comes close to comfort. I am extremely happy I'm still able to use it with my series x using the optical port from the base station to my tv though. Some guys play on monitors which don't have that option and have to get the audio extractor to keep their presets and utilize Dolby. Keep up the great videos! 😎🤙🏽
I've had my Penrose X for awhile now and really like them. When I switch back to my Rig800lx the sound just seems kinda muffled. As far as eq settings go I prefer a pretty much flat setting. Music does sound pretty amazing!
@@TechnoDad I have a good functioning Rig 800LX. How much of an upgrade is the Penrose compared to the 800LX for gaming? Like directional audio and Fullness of the sound?
I own both. The a50's are so convenient for changing settings and plus the astro software is ace. The penrose is tge better sounding headset, controls are its weak point also wish the software offered more customisation. I use the a50 for multiplayer games and my penrose x for single player plus music when on my xbox.
i'm looking for buy one of these, i play only multy game (warzone, apex, etc.), so something verry important for me is the 3d sorround for hearing the direction of the steps, which one do you suggest me?
The Audeze headphones has the weakest wireless range I have ever tried. They also have click and pop notices coming in randomly. I had to turn off my whole rigg to get these HP to connect without drop outs or disconnection. Also the range is like 3 feet from the dongle to get a steady connection, but with the occasional drop outs... Yeah, the stereo sound is amazing but WTF? Why do I need to turn off my wifi, my Bluetooth, my usb 3 disks to get these to work, like did Audeze build these for gaming or for people who live out in the woods? Anyway, I'm using SteelSeries Arctis pro Wireless and they sound great, have a range of like almost 90 feet and their signal travels through walls. Sure they don't sound exactly as good in Stereo as the Penrose but as the Penrose does not support surround sound it's not really made for gaming. They are 350 in EU and not worth the price here, get the Arctis pro wireless or the Corsair Virtuoso XT instead, the later even supporting Dolby Atmos on PC. Penrose are the worst HP I've tried to wear even if the sound is great, it's not worth all the hassle to get them to work perfectly. Hot tip to users with PS5 X series, connect the optical out from your tv into the base stations.
I use the Philips shp9500 using Sonic sound on the Xbox. Haven't decided on Atmos or DTS x. They aren't gaming headphones but they do a really good job
@@robg2789 no not yet, I’ve downloaded some, but to be fair I just use flat eq and then Dolby atmos (performance mode) or dts:x ( spacious mode for cod ). the a50 base station does work with the series x via usb flawlessly not sure if at the time they had released the firmware update for the usb drivers that allowed this but maybe they wernt out at the time or you didnt update the base station but they100% work with usb on the series xbox consoles audio and mic
Tested few headsets and nothing impressed me till I got Audeze Mobius for my XSX.....overall I still prefer my 5.1 speaker setup but still kind of fun to use the Mobius especially late in the night
A50 need a firmware update before they work correctly with series x/s after that you only need USB cable , download Astro app on your Xbox and Dolby app or dts and your good to go . They sound amazing after the firmware update on X
@@TechnoDad Yes though 3.5mm Jack on the back. Works great, I think I paid $20 for it. Also I just watch a movie on the Fold 2. Has Atoms built in. I think the movies sound better on the Fold 2, then the IPad Pro.
You dont need to get a new headset.. spend 20 bucks on an audio extractor converter.... they have optical ports and run everything at 4k and 60 fps and you run it into a dac amp and plugin 3.5 there.
Question i have is do they offer Bluetooth... i use Apple Music which isn’t supported for xbox and i got used to playing ps4 with my Arctic pro wireless and listening to music at the same time from my phone..
They are shit. To connect a phone to them, you need to run them in Blue Tooth mode, as soon as you do this, it kills your game audio & focuses on your Blue Tooth audio, normally this wouldn't be a problem with any other BT headset, but Audeze only has a master volume control, you can't individually adjust game audio or BT audio. So if your game volume is low in BT mode & you want to turn it up, it'll just crank the music from your BT too. It just makes everything louder or quieter. Also, if you answer a phone call while in BT mode, it will broadcast your phone call mic audio to your gaming group, so everyone gets to listen to what you are saying.
I totally agreed with your review. Abit clampy in the beginning, but it gets better after a while. I returned my Astros A50 gen 4 because they didn't get loud enough on in some apps and some games on Xbox, Thats only thing you forgot to say in your review. But the sound is just amazing on the Penrose. It's like wearing a amp on your head.
You have to buy the Astro hdmi/optical adapter for new gen consoles or at least PS5. Which sucks cause the adapter is only 60hz 2.0 not 2.1 so no 120hz with it as of now..I know you prolly know this buy now but for anyone else lol
Hi guys , i am confused between Astro a50 and audeze penrose , because I want the best headset for ps5, pc , so in your opinion what’s the best? In all thing , in audio quality, head rest all thing
You can absolutely use the A50's with the Series X. You just have to plug it in to your PC and update it. After that's done you just have to plug it in to the USB and it's good to go.
I don't get how anyone can game and listen to music at the same time, it just doesn't make sense to me especially when you think about how good and immersive sound is in video game nowadays. So weird.
@@TechnoDad Even if you would have done that the audio is trash compared to optical out. The best option for Xbox series x is hdmi to optical out adapter. Astro sells it for $40.
Your going to be annoyed with its mic, it terrible, I guarantee that when you first talk you your mates on the penrose they are going to ask “ why does your voice sound muffled”
I read they arent too different than the mobius except they dont have the 3d rendering. I have the mobius, and yeah, the sq is nice but man the soundstage is typical for a closed back. I just use them for bluetooth for my phone with ldac. Oh, if you havent dled the drivers for the a50 from astro, it might not work. Some reports have said the usb audio sucks compared to the optic though.
most the reviews seem to be for console, im torn between this and the steelseries pro wirless for gaming.. as im use to surround sound 7 .1 on my current logitech g935 im not sure what would be better for online games as the penrose wont have 7.1 and the audeze morphius cant do 7.1 without being plugged in.
your 7.1 is just 'virtual' it uses dsp with phase shifting and effects much like dolby atmos or the tempest engine does. While virtual 7.1 does use individual channels the output is still stereo and the results are pretty much the same as most '3d surround' effects. The xbox doesn't support 7.1 for the mobius (no usb support so wired only) but the inbuilt 3d dsp is very good and I have no problem with audio positioning. Penrose dont have this feature but dolby atmos or dtx headphones is just as good.
Astros are not worth their money if the EQ and DD do not work on the Mixamp. Only if you get an HDMI audio extractor to pull an optical signal from the HDMI feed.
@@TechnoDad They were with the previous Gen but Astro makes you use Dolby atmos app with the new Gen. So the processing gets done on the console. You can use any headphone/headset for Atmos connected to your controller now. I use a pair of Audio Technica AD700X with a mod mic for my headset. And just use Dolby Atmos app for 3D positioning. Works pretty well.
The update for the A50 Gen 4s did allow my headset to work on XSX. However, there are tons of clicks and random noises because of it. 8 months after the update (20 months into ownership) they bricked themselves while charging on the finicky base station.
Not sure if I have a small, medium, or large head, lol! That sounded funny. Clamping force is a bit much for me. So after like 4 hours, my jaw would hurt. It’s okay now but that was super annoying when I first used them. Sound is amazing.
Stretch them out over night when you’re sleeping. I put newer headsets with high clamping force on my skateboard helmet every night until they are comfortable enough for me
Hey FOMO, you're a legend mate, love your channel. They're good for smaller heads. Careful with these though, if you get bit by the audiophile bug you'll be doing reviews of your headphone setup that costs more than an OLED tv.
Penrose X were a disappointment. Sound was amazing, but design and quality (made of plastic) were horrible. They have 2 dials on the left ear cup. One for headset volume. And the other for mic volume and if u click the wheel in it gives u maybe a 2 second window to adjust game/chat volume which u have to keep clicking over and over at the end of ur match to balance out the game noise to hear ur friends. By the time u get it dialed in boom ur back in the next match have to adjust again lol It’s irritating man. I found my myself opening up the chat settings for Xbox multiple times a day to figure out what I was doing. And no u cannot change the headset volume settings through the console. Everything has to be done on the headset. I just sent mine back after 2 weeks of use. Sound was amazing. Mic was too long and flimsy but sounds amazing. Everything else about it is poor. Left ear cup sound like it has foil in it and won’t stop making a crumbling noise. The suction of the earcups is pretty tight to the point where my left ear drum was being sucked on and pulled out of my ear. U guys know that feeling? If not put the palm of ur hand over ur ear and press hard then let off. It’s that feeling. The headset is made of plastic. Doesn’t have LED indicator to let u know ur mic is muted. What year are we in again?? Also everything has to be done on the headset which I stated earlier is a FREAKING nightmare. I don’t know what Audeze was thinking when they developed these. Sound is great. Everything else is just poor. I’m mad. Tired of these companies trying to finesse everyone out of a quick buck. Make 1 headset that does it all please. So tired of corporate America. If we could put the great sound quality of the Audeze Penrose into the headset of the LucidSound LS50X headset that would be the perfect headset for everyone, I believe. LS50X were great in every aspect especially CONTROLS except for the sound WHILE gaming. Sound for listening to music and movies however was awesome and freaking epic!! Unfortunately sent both headsets back and going back to my trustee Hyper X headset until we get a proper headset or an updated version from any one of these companies. 😡😡 hope this helps anyone out there with the same frustrations I’ve been having with finding my next headset to game for another 5/10 years. Good luck guys.
Please help!!! I know this is an old video but my penrose’ just came in the mail everything works like a million bucks they sound amazing truly incredible compared to my no brand amazon $30 headset but for the love of god I can’t speak into a party or anything with them (I’m on xbox series x) like I can hear myself in the headset speaking to myself or I can hear others in chat but no one can hear me and there’s no mic action going on for my end like I’m not actually speaking even when I tried in a party by myself idk what to do man I’m getting pisssed off
@@edicino To fix this, take your optical cable, and plug it directly into your tv, this i will make the astros work just as they did on older consoles, Perfect. Audeze is one of the best audiophile companies on the planet; yeah no shit they’ll be better than Astro. It’s better to spend your money on a company with proven quality. Astro has had so many problems for their price
My Audeze's must be broken. Lol. Mic sux, you need to get the positioning right, where it's not picking up every breath you take, it's not rubbing on your shoulder if you move your head, but it still picks you up when you talk. BT functionality is garbage, you have to manually put it in BT mode, when you do it kills your game audio, you then have no seperate volume control between BT audio & game audio. Turn the headset down, your BT goes down, adjust your phone volume, your game audio changes, it's only one master volume. When in a phone call, it also broadcasts your mic audio during your call, to your game, so everyone gets to listen to what you're saying on the phone. Mine have pathetic bass, they are just blaringly loud through the mids and highs, downloaded the Modern Warfare settings from Audeze, loaded them onto the headset, they were horrible. Chests were blaringly loud, gun shots were blaringly loud, footsteps were sort of blaringly loud, but in a heated battle, all the sounds were just a mess on top of each other, I couldn't tell where people were coming from, all I could hear was that damn orange chest and gun shots all around with no idea on the position they were coming from. The dials are awkward, the 2nd dial is your chat mix dial, but it's set to be your mic gain, you have to click in & hold then adjust, if you don't get it right, or you let it go for a millisecond, it switches back to mic gain, your chat balance doesn't change, but next second your mic doesn't work. Next to my A50's, these are my most expensive headset & the biggest let down. If I could get a refund I would. They just collect dust.
Why wouldn't I pay the same price for something that games well and plays music well? Not to mention easier connectivity to the Series X with better sound. not sure which part of the video you missed but maybe try reading through the comments section..... the Penrose is clearly favoured. I started my day leaning towards getting Arctis 9X for my new Series X, then I was leaning towards the Astro A50 Gen 4's because of the cool charging station idea but now I am 100% leaning towards these Penroses. All of this is after reading through the comments sections of the videos.

Great review. Super informative. Thank you. Would you recommend the Penrose over the SteelSeries Arctic 7X for the Series X? I’m looking for a top pair of headphones that sound amazing, with no connection, reliability or latency issues. Many thanks for your help. 🙏🏻
The audio quality will be better on the Audeze. Feature mix is different tho.
Copy that!
I have the Astro A50 and have them working with my Series X. I have never used the optical cable. The headset does support the series X directly.

Which is better
Audeze Penrose X or Articis 7X
Appreciate any feedback and honesty as the Penrose X are expensive.

Also, if you answer a phone call while in BT mode, it will broadcast your phone call mic audio to your gaming group, so everyone gets to listen to what you are saying.

your 7.1 is just 'virtual' it uses dsp with phase shifting and effects much like dolby atmos or the tempest engine does. While virtual 7.1 does use individual channels the output is still stereo and the results are pretty much the same as most '3d surround' effects. Jup! Both headsets do that well.
How comfortable is the Penrose for smaller heads?
How did he not realize that he needs to update the a50s to use them on the series x?
It wasn't stated anywhere...
I know this is an old video but my penrose’ just came in the mail everything works like a million bucks they sound amazing truly incredible compared to my no brand amazon $30 headset but for the love of god I can’t speak into a party or anything with them (I’m on xbox series x) like I can hear myself in the headset speaking to myself or I can hear others in chat but no one can hear me and there’s no mic action going on for my end like I’m not actually speaking even when I tried in a party by myself idk what to do man I’m getting pisssed off
How can I take this review seriously if he doesn't know how to update his headset. All astro A50 and mixamp got an update to play through USB.
Can i play the Penrose x on the Ps5 too?
They have a PS5 specific model that's simply called Penrose.
@@TechnoDad yes i know but i heard that with the 3.5 mm cable to Controller it maybe works with ps5?!
@@dysnomia1132 Penrose X should work on PS4/5 by just setting the switch to PC mode on the dongle
you need review the Sony Pulse 3D headset..
Unfortunately, my PS5 is bricked, so that headset would be "normal" without Sony's 3D encoding.
Use the optical out of your tv
Even the update to the astro a50 with USB plug-in sounds like shit, I had to get hdmi extractor
Hi Edicino! I’m not surprised. Is there an extra cost for the HDMI extractor?
@@TechnoDad yes there sure is I bought a really good one , witch cost me $70
@@edicino To fix this, take your optical cable, and plug it directly into your tv, this i will make the astros work just as they did on older consoles, Perfect. USB only is absolute garbage and Astro has done nothing to fix it, if it weren't for the Optical Cable to tv fixing everything I would have a different headset now.
Audeze is one of the best audiophile companies on the planet; yeah no shit they’ll be better than Astro. It’s better to spend your money on a company with proven quality. Astro has had so many problems for their price
Agreed!
ASTRO A50 is purely for gaming so saying it's not good for music is pointless.
At $300, it should do more than just be for gaming...
A50s work on series x my optical is connected to my tv
But your mic doesn't work does it?
@@mykidzyomouth9125 it does i use it on my ps5 too and everything works there
Take my money!
What's the best headset under $130?
Hi! I would look at Steelseries Arctis. I'm not sure what console you're using, so here's a link to the wired one - amzn.to/2MVCUNc - If you want wireless, you'll need to specify either Playstation or Xbox.
Phillips SHP9500+V-Moda BoomPro, Cheap and better than the A50's or arctis pro's.
I hope they are better than the Mobius were
I've never tried those...
@@TechnoDad theyre identical in build, drivers and sound profile. the mobius has head tracking(gimmick), 3d dsp (very good) and a higher bit rate dac for hirez audio.
@@spazco8669 Penrose and Mobius sound different from each other.
@@EdgeOfDarkness86 really? I've only got the mobius. Good to know.
@@spazco8669 Yep, they have EQ presets for the Penrose to make it sound closer to Mobius
What headset would you recommend for the ps5
Normal Audeze Penrose. Penrose X is for Xbox and Windows
Yes, as Tyson stated, the Audeze Penrose is the PS5 version, it has a blue plastic stripe instead of the green in this one.
@@TechnoDad I heard the penrose x version supports PS as well.. by flipping the dongle to pc
@@TheButcherGorr that is true
I own the astro a50 and he is great on my series x ...
Nice!
Lol, it uses the tv’s optical port.
@technodad Hi man, So I just want to let you know, I have created an OLED community website. Its not yet live. On the site, Id like to post 1 of your videos from your channel. If this is ok please let me know. If not thats okay too. If you choose to say yes, Please let me know a video to feature, As I have also reached out to some other tv tech creators. I think your channel would be great for the project. Thanks.
