This is the best headset review I've ever heard on a headset. Finally a person that goes IN DEPTH on SQ and its sound characteristics. I think it's baffling that 98% of youtubers that review headsets will have a 10 min video and spend 10 seconds on SQ.
You’re right. Like Techne. Can’t stand those reviews. I’m pretty sure he doesn’t test shit, and all he does is mumble that stupid “stinking cozy” catchphrase.
Great review, You've nailed my biggest issue with these. If Audeze ever figures out how to kill the issues/bugs, it'll be the default headset I'd recommend. I've had them since they launched, and I've had an overall, great experience. But reading all the issues on Head-Fi, has made me hesitant to suggest them to anyone outside of people I know. They're so close to a killer headset. I love planar headphones, and really hope more gamers get to listen to them. Penrose X, the clarity and detail, is just so far above what a typical gaming headset delivers. My dream headset would be an open-back Penrose. Might be difficult with the electronics/battery, but closed back just have limitations I'd like to avoid. I don't need isolation, so I'll take the benefits of open back! Thanks for the review, good source to point people to.
No issues whatsoever, Series X, PS5 & Switch Oled, Best Sounding Headset ive ever heard, Best £250 ive spent in a while (Scan uk discount on youtube channel review) Have never updated Firmware, as ive never needed to.
@@thekiddie73 I love the penrose, it's absolutely awesome. Also the customer support is fantastic. They legit called me to.better help me. When I had to send them in they sent me a new pair no problem. I would 100% buy another headset from them
When I rock my head from my right shoulder to my left shoulder I get a noise in my left cup. Like a component is rocking backwards and forwards, is this normal?
@@pbateman62 it's air that has gotten under the foil inside the headset. It's a common issue with planar magnetic drivers and it usually happens if you put pressure on the headset while you are wearing them. The air compression inside the cups will push the air under the foil. You can contact Audeze support and they will most likely take them in and fix it for you. They did that no problem when the same thing happened to me
Your review really helped push me to pick up this headset. I've been searching for a couple years for a headset that really satisfied my expectations. Previously my favorite for the Turtle Beach 800s. Fantastic headset but build quality was terrible and no way to repair outside of the warranty. I'm absolutely in love with the Penrose, outside of it initially trying to implode my ears lol. As you've said, it's something you have to experience to "get it". I would assume with all the updates since this video was made, Audeze has really dialed in the firmware because I have zero issues with mine. Range is now on par with any other headset I've used. I still find the controls to be clunky, and the BT volume while gaming is my only issue. I wish I could control the BT volume from my phone. The Xbox headset did this well. If they could get that sorted out, I couldn't ask for a better experience. Also what happened to independent chat/game adjustment? The turtle Beach 800s did that and it was the best. I always find myself unhappy with chat mixers
I agree about the build quality. Mine just broke last night after only 3 months. The left side adjustment bar just came out of the headband. I expected a higher quality than say the cheaper materials of the turtle beaches
Great review, thanks for explaining some of the common issues you find online about this product and breaking it down in laymen terms. Most reviewers I've watched just acknowledge the issue does exist briefly and leave it at that but I got a much better understanding with you and it'll help me determine whether or not I'll purchase this product.
Just bought this headset, hyperx cloud orbit s, h6pro and the beyerdynamic mmx150. I'm torn but the penrose does everything i want, especially in the mobility department.
11:00 I would love to hear all that! I just purchased mine, I was gonna go with the new novas but these really intrigue me! cant wait to try them. Amazing video btw!!
Customer for audeze is fantastic, they will help u the best they can and if u have to send it in they will either fix it or replace it.i love my headset. Also updating helped my issues. The penrose is the best gaming headset I've owned.
I was in the market for a pair of headphones and these keep popping up as the best so I decided to try them and Holy smokes, I'm spoiled guys. These are so good you have to try them to believe it , the best headphones I've ever listened to.
Awesome video man... You actually re sold me the headphones..I got mine 3 weeks ago and was hellbent on returning them as the the issues you'd mentioned also happened to me quite often. But with watching you're honest review I'm sold again and will give them another go. I'll also try them on my PS5 as all my issues were with my Xbox Series X. Thanks again bro new sub...
I'd much rather for you to make an hour long video than a vid that's 10 mins if it means cutting off talking points that may be beneficial for someone. Love this review and it's the most comprehensive I've heard about these cans thus far.
Solid review of them ✌️ I’ve been using my pair since the start of the year, took a week for me to adjust to the sound. I’ve never used a planar magnetic headphone before, after that nothing else I used could compare in sound quality. Haven’t had any connection dropouts besides walking into my bathroom (solid brick walls). I was hesitant at picking these up at first, but I’m so glad I took the plunge and grabbed em.
Thanks. I know a lot of people don’t have wireless issues but some do and unfortunately I was one of them. My router is in the same room which doesn’t help. Either way, I didn’t want to lie to my viewers or mislead people. Instead, it’s still an excellent headset but I wanted to share tips on how people can solve the issue if they too have what I had until I sorted it out. To me, it’s worth it!
@@OutForTreats ive got Both on Series X Some Games sound better with Atmos, others with DTS:X DTS sounds dare i say it maybe a little better tuned for gaming, slightly more bass also.
zero issues with wireless connection - luckily) the only thing i changed was earpads, because stock were just not comfortable enough, but now it's perfect. also i forgot i had that bass bump which i removed, don't remember why. but thanks for the reminder! i like a phisical feeling of wind howling in my ear;) great review, cheers!
@@OutForTreats Dekoni👏 the sound, yeah, it had some spikes in the treble which are now gone or became somewhat rounded and much more manageable, and a little bit more bass elevation, but not by much. I have velour pads, but u can choose skin, it may sound different as well. But they have graphs, u'll know what to expect.
Audeze Maxwell is coming out very soon, please do make a review on it. Heard that they fixed the wireless range issue on paper. Enjoyed this one, Thumbs up!
I have the Penrose for ps5 and got them about 3 months ago, no comparison, these are the best sounding gaming headphones on the market currently for the price. The mic is clean and clear, especially in the PlayStation parties. These 100mm drivers are absolutely incredible. I'll be changing the earpads tonight. I hope a new iteration improves the distance for connection to the dongle and the stability of the connection if they make another model.
Thank you for your research and honest imput on all your reviews man, just dropped a sub. I somehow was able to get the penrose for the ps5 from ebay for $175 brand new and sealed.
I’d been watching reviews for the past few weeks looking for an upgrade to me TB 700’s that I bought with my XB One X. This set started to get some traction, but it was your vid that became a deciding factor for me. I just picked up my set 5 days ago. So thank you. I too need to do a bit of tinkering since I’m beginning to experience some issues with the set blanking out and reconnecting. But the sound is awesome!
@@silveg87 From time to time, the set will reconnect whilst playing. Not enough for me to even think about returning. Overall I really love this set. I replaced the stocks with Wicked Cushions. That solved the "spicy ear" issue. i use them for about 8 hours a week in total. Great sound!!
Awesome review. I've had my eyes on these for some time now. Definitely getting them although I'm somewhat skeptical. Hopefully my experience is more pleasant than aggravating.
Thanks, and best of luck! If you get one with no issues due to your environment, it's incredible. If you have issues, hopefully this video helps you sort that out.
@@GadgetryTech I got mine yesterday and connected it with a USB extension like you said and I gotta say they work FLAWLESSLY. The BEST sounding gaming headset I own. Even better than my Arctis Pro Wireless. Thanks again for the honest and spot on review.
Thanks for the video and info bud. I’m currently using the artic 9x on my series X and I like it but I want the competitive edge in sound. I’m going to order the penrose X, use it only for Warzone. Keep the 9x and use it for more casual gaming / sporting events / entertainment. Cheers!
Hey could i get an update please! I also have a series X and my Artic 9x just snapped, I’ve been searching for hours for a better one. Can you tell me if the Penrose X has good voice chat/party chat volumes? Is it easy to adjust the team audio vs game audio? Thanks! I play Warzone a lot.
@@ZxRiGxZ It’s not that’s easy to adjust. You have to press the dial in while you adjust it which doesn’t always work. Astro A50, A40, SteelSeries 9X, 7X, TurtleBeach 700 Gen 2 are all easier.
@@GadgetryTech Wow thanks for the reply! I just rewatched your entire video and I’m reading every comment. I have a Series X and I’m so conflicted with the Penrose X in my cart..i just want to know if it will work just fine on the Series X or if these bugs are guaranteed. Any last advise for buying for X would be appreciated, im so close..
If you’re hardcore you connect the Penrose to the controller with aux, then the USB cable to PC. Open the Audeze software then you can control EQ, mic, and game to chat mix like a boss. Best sound for $300 if you can deal with that setup.
Might be a lot to ask...but you gotta make a video comparison on the Audeze penrose vs the new arctic nova pro wireless from steel series. I have watched both of your videos on them and right now I’m so conflicted I don’t know what to buy. Yeah steel series has all the gadgets, but I don’t trust their sound as much as I do Audeze. However the new software on steel series has me wondering if I should go that route instead of Audeze. What I think would be helpful for me and hopefully others is focusing on who has the better sound quality before tuning (prolly Audeze since it’s 100mmdrivers) and after tuning. Go into software they have on dialing in preferences for video games for FPS, story driven games, and or listening to music. Anyway your reviews are the best around keep up the hard work my friend. Don’t worry about length. Your details are uncanny
Hi. Thank you for the great review. I am considering these for the PS5. Do they support the 3D Audio Tempest Engine on the PS5? Also, if i set custom EQ settings on my mac or phone, will those settings save on the headset and carry over to the PS5?
Lucky I went to order it and it shows sold out for Xbox I love my penrose and I wanted to try this as I don’t think even after your great review of the nova pro wireless that isn’t for me and Maxwell would be better
Thanks for your effort in your videos, I also enjoy watching the reviews you make. I bought these Penrose X and they are my favorite that I've tried (old MDR-1BT, recently Arctis 9X, Xbox Wireless Headset, Beoplay Portals) so far. My question to you is if you've had experience with wired headsets directly to an Xbox controller 3.5mm jack. I realize that I don't mind using that if it meant better quality, but not sure if that allows better quality. Ideally, I'd spend like $800 bucks for some great sounding headphones that I can travel with, that will also work well if I connect wired to my xbox controller to play / chat. Any suggestions?
@@michaelrenight4641 Yeah the only thing the Arctis 9X had over it was that it was super comfortable on my head. I didn't like the material of the ear pads, though. But overall it felt light and comfy. It may be super cheap plastic and that's why it felt so light but either way it felt comfortable. The Penrose X sound is way better. I enjoy listening to bluetooth or playing games. It did have a similar issue with interference, but I fixed that by moving a couple 2.4ghz devices and changed to a different wifi channel. Now there is no interference at all. This is with an Xbox One, with the dongle in the front side USB port (no extension cable), with an external hdd in the back usb port. The Penrose X is the best one that I tried and there doesn't appear to be a better alternative. If you don't mind wired, then you can get a MixAmp Pro TR and use the USB port on the Xbox and have a headphone jack wired to the console. Then your options are endless. I tried the MixAmp with their A40 headset and also with the Penrose X. I still preferred the wireless connectivity, as it sounded the same or even louder. I read that the Penrose X might not benefit much from an external amplifier. Anyways, I just picked up my Xbox Series X and setting it up... hoping that there are no problems with it with the Penrose X, because I am really really enjoying them now that there is no interference.
@@joemab123 Penrose X has been great for me on the XSX. No interference issues after making the changes I mentioned in my above comment. The only features I'd love to include would be a transparency mode and also being able to control settings via the Xbox dashboard (like the Xbox Wireless Headset).
Great review as always. Do you recommend getting Dolby Atmos on Xbox to improve any headset? I recently bought the steel series 9x and curious if it would improve things. Not that I don't think they sound good already just curious if it would take them to the next level.
You can tune the headset with USB-C to PC just fine, but the Atmos app may allow certain games to take advantage of the spatial audio even more. Something to consider at least, plus you can tune the EQ wirelessly using the Atmos app which is nice.
@@GadgetryTech Yeah I did tune the headset to the PC and it sounds great. I wasn't sure if the Dolby Audio did anything extra. I'll try the demo and see what it's like. Keep up the great work!
Hey. First of all, let me start by saying, GREAT REVIEW!!! I don’t mind long reviews (I actually prefer) as long as they are of quality and go in depth with the details, you nailed both. I’m looking to buy this headsets for use on Xbox via wireless, I don’t mind tweaking the WiFi channels but wanted to ask…did the firmwares update ever fixed your issues? Appreciate it!
actually when I moved it got better. There was another firmware update since the last review and it seemed to help out with a couple bugs as well. If you have issues you can always fall back to aux as a backup at least.
Hi nice review you always do a awesome review. I need your help I play on ps5 I don't know which headphones to get the dynamic mg 20 or the Arctic nova wireless you had a chance to hear both of them which ones do you think I should get which ones sound best what do you pick is the best thankyou
I got this headset day 1 it’s the best sounding headset and it’s not even close it works for all consoles just buy the Xbox dongle from Audeze I have the ps5 version so I paid 47 for the dongle to use on both
@Blac585 I have both playstation 5 and xbox series x. Will the xbox version of the penerose work for playstation 5 without buying a dongle. If so will any features such as mic usability be loss? Just curious thinking of upgrading from arctis 7p
@@brod3rick870 yes get the xbox version it works with the ps5 flawlessly i didn't know this at the time but audeze sold me the dongle update the firmware for the latest update
I saw your review of B&O Portal, how Penrose looks in comparison to Portal? I can get B&O for around 300USD...is there any other option worth in that price range in your opinion?
Great review man. How do these compare to the HyperX Orbit S since Audeze & HyperX collaborated on that headset. They look the same and both have the same 100mm drivers
the clouds are actually wired versions of audeze's more expensive mobius headset. same drivers (although tuned differently), a better dac and hi rez audio support. They also have the head tracking feature which is a bit gimmicky but kind of cool. especially on pc because you can map keybindings to head movements. the clouds can be found pretty cheap now days.
Would go with Audeze Penrose X or the Bang & Olufsen Beoplay Portal? Both are currently selling at the same price of $299. Thank you in advance. I truly value your opinion.
If I may, I bought the now discontinued Bang and Olufsen Portal, but for Ps5. The sound was clean, it was great. Not great for bass, but it's fine. The app with my cellphone is helpful when you play on consoles, but for the price tag, I felt we deserve better. The battery life is not good at all if you use Bluetooth and wireless.
Crazy good timing, i just discovered your channel and just picked up the Penrose last week! Did they by chance give you a time frame for the next firmware? Would you recommend using atmos, DTS X or Stereo Uncompressed with Xbox?
Thanks Randy. I haven't heard a date yet but I did hear "soon". No idea what that means now a days. I recommend Stereo Uncompressed, or enable Atmos if you play Atmos games and want to benefit from that or even do your own EQ tuning in the Atmos app. Boost low bass slightly and I think these will blow you away.
Sounds like a $300 headache. Audeze should’ve just made them wired. I hear a lot of hype for seenheiser HD560s lately being the best for FPS gaming. I am thinking adding it to my collection. Great video by the way
Thanks! I mean, at leas they work great with the included TRRS cable anyway, plus then you still get Bluetooth and a bigger amp built in. A controller amp doesn't provide the voltage necessary to really drive these the way they should be. So with that being said, I think what they did was likely the best option.
@@GadgetryTech Audeze is a good company. They made three gaming headsets penrose mobius and lcd gx which a $900 headset. I seen the video when you played on warzone. Scale 1 to 10 how good was the direction of foot steps compared to the H6 pro? I understand they are completely different
@@crate718 Hard to give it a number but the Penrose seems to be the peak of positional awareness for Warzone, but the H6PRO Closed back is not far behind. The open back is a little more behind, but only because it has a more natural, smoother sound to it. The closed back H6PRO is hyper focused/detail tuned so it seems to excel in footstep awareness.
@@GadgetryTech I do love them a lot. I just pulled the trigger and ordered the HD560s and also a cheap portable dac amp. I never owned audiophile headset. Suppose to be the holy grail of gaming headsets. I don’t know what to expect lol
I really enjoyed your video can I ask a few questions I’ve just purchased these and I really struggling to find the difference between the a50 is what eq did you run for the best sound and do you run Dolby Atmos app on the Xbox X for the best sound
I got the Audeze Mobius a few years ago for PC gaming and despite some build quality issues (I had to have mine replaced because one of the volume wheels broke off into the headset) it has been awesome! Now that I finally got my PS 5 I decided to go for a Penrose just for Playstation. I have had some connectivity issues and your video gave me some ideas on how to solve them, thanks a lot! As for your assessment that these are some great sounding cans, I couldn’t agree more! But, for wireless music listening on the go I still prefer my Sennheiser Momentum 3’s unless I want to be destroyed by metal music: NOTHING will beat a Penrose/Mobius for full-volume death metal!!! 🤟😎
@@ThaMobstarr Yep! Update the firmware and it fixes a lot of the problems, improves the mic, adds the ability to toggle through EQ’s etc. I only have connection drop outs when I walk into the next room. Thick concrete wall, not much I can do about that. I had a couple pairs of Astro A50’s and the Penrose leave them In the dust.
Do you have any EQ presets you use for these? I have the PlayStation version and in Call of duty Vanguard/Warzone I feel like the soundstage is very small and I can barely hear any footsteps
These, A50s Gen 4, Stealth 700s, Beoplay Portal or Arctis 9X for the Series X? I just got the wired Razer Blackshark V2 headset but thinking I should get a higher end pair. I miss my old Tritton Pros I had back in the 360 days. Those things were awesome with the multiple speakers in each ear cup.
Hi, just to confirm what you said from the beginning that the penrose x works with PS as well? I have both consoles and would be great to have just one that works with both. Thanks!
I have the Mobius, although I dislike that they haven't updated it with the 2.4ghz wireless, I really like the head tracking that allows me to hear sound as if they were from desktop speakers. I think for some they don't need the headtracking. If they enabled 2.4ghz wireless and active noise canceling, they would steal the market from all those other portable noise canceling headphones as well. I do love the planars and I hated that most of them had to be open back. These are closed back AND has spatial sound that makes it seem as if they are open back, this way you can keep the noise private and enhance the bass as well. My personal conclusion is that if I were to get open back, i might as well just use quality speakers. Update- Also the biggest thing is the 3D effect on the Mobius, if the Penrose doesn't have it, it's a BIG downgrade imho. The planars in closed back just are too cramped without it.
when you set your router to lets say channel 6, just like an audio band, its not on 6 but multple channels trough 4-8 thats why 6 and 9 can give you interference simultaneously.
Awesome review! Easy Sub decision for me. I got these for the intent of Xbox in game audio and chat via discord since many of my friends chat via discord. I immediately had those connection issues via BT trying to sync wirelessly to Xbox and chat via discord on my phone. The humm was significant, even had some distortion (robot chat) via discord. I’m also really close to my router and disabling 2.4 will take all the main devices off the net. In your opinion, do you think a Y splitter from the headphones with wire to pc/phone for discord and wire to controller would give me both with distortion? Thanks again.
Unfortunately while possible, it doesn't seem to work that well for that. I don't know of a good way to split analog and preserve full functionally on both. The best solution for this in the past was to use a nice USB mic for PC voice chat like a Blue Yeti, then BT audio from PC to headset + Aux to controller.
I’ve honestly had zero issues with mine after one week so far. I think it’s because nothing on my gaming setup uses Wi-Fi so I must be lucky. Best sounding gaming headset on the market in my opinion!
be careful. these all inevitably break at the forks and none of the people selling any of the variants (mobius etc) sell replacement parts for them. my first ones broke outside the warranty time barely and they offered to buy the broken ones for $100 off of the original price to replace them. they truly do sound amazing though. they're the best planar magnetic headphones you can get for this cheap. i've got about $800 invested in them now. the microphones kind of suck. they're not awful, they just need to be perfectly placed or you get a lot of complaints and they're not stiff enough to stay adjusted at all. i replaced the ear pads on the first pair, but i originally thought that maybe caused them to break so i didn't change the pads on my new ones. the flaw in this design is well known and they've made no effort whatsoever to rectify the ridiculously thin plastic that the forks are made of. there's been these new penrose released and now other companies are also selling this headphone and it's the same. no replacement parts, no revised build quality = shady business
Thanks for the review. Just picked these up and was had a quick question. Did you say to disable 2.4Ghz channels on my router if im having wireless issue's with my Series X? Just confused because you said the headphones work of of a 2.4Ghz connection.
I get the Sony Inzone H7 (was good but not satisfying), buy the Arctis Nova Pro (for me, they sound not good, personaly, do not understand the positive Reviews. On PC they sounds way better but on Console they sound awfull for my) and was over Weeks missing a good Gaming HS for my PS 5. I want to soll it on ebay and put it finaly to sale. Then i see this Vid (realy great Review) and give the Penrose a try. I am so happy with the HS. They sound amazing. Just out of the Box and whoau. In Multiplayer, its unbelievable what i can hear and how phantastic it sounds. And no sratching in my Ears on the "S" (get that very often on the Nova in Chat and often with the Inzone H7). The Penrose delivers all what i want! Yeas, the Confort may be better (i have no problem with them after a bout 15 Min) and the Ear Cuffs in this Leather style are not my favorit, but the Sound....this Sound....i am sooooo happy!
Has there been a firmware update that solves the connection issues on the series x? I’ve got the first get stealth 700s and while I enjoy them (mostly warzone and other fps) I’m looking for a more a more full audio experience volume and sound quality wise.
I have heard alot of people complaining about the connectivity issues with this headset. I myself have not had any issues what so wver and I'm able to walk around my house all the way to the kitchen from my gaming room and still be connected to my xbox
Yup! It's so hard because if I have connection issues, I have to disclose it, as I need to be honest with my review process. Just a couple days ago I used them again and they were flawless. If they worked like that every day, it would still be the best wireless gaming headset on the market right now. It's just the risk on if it maintains a strong connection or not. If yours is solid, don't bother shopping around as everything else will feel like a step down.
@@GadgetryTech True. Yes i absolutely love them to death. If Audeze drop a successor i will be all over that shiz! I have had Loads of different headsets over the years. Astro A40's and A50's, TurtleBeach's, Steel Series. Nothing even comes close to touching the Penrose. The Astro A50 is definitely my runner up tho. Good audio and great comfort.
From number 1-10 (1 beig the worst and 10 being the best) How is the noise isolation on these headsets? Now I understand they are not ANC but I am looking for a headset with very good soundstage, sound, and most importantly noise isolation in it. My roommate has a 10,000watts (it's as loud as a freakin concert!!) professional karaoke system in the living room and sometimes when I'm in my room watching a movie or playing a game, they sing karaoke all day long. I was going to buy the Razer barracuda pro for the ANC but i heard the sound stage is trash. So now im looking into the audeze penrose as I'm kind of an audiophile and can't stand trash sounding headsets.
Penrose has the edge in pure sound quality and slightly better mic. The Portal works better though, with more stable wireless connection and easier to use controls. The app is better on the Portal as well. I think the Portal also has the edge in comfort. Sorry not to give you an official answer but it depends on what’s more important to you!
thanks for your reply and review. Would penrose be as good or better than b&o on sound quality for music. I have not decided yet coz i was waiting for your reviews on both and as you said it depends on whats more important to me. I have airpod max for music and maybe i can use the b&o for music too. thank you again.
@@butch5187 That's a tough one because Audeze is using Planar magnetic drivers which have some incredible resolution and detail retrieval. The mids are nearly flawless for being sub $500. If you want something that can feel like an upgrade to your Airpod Max for detail and clarity, I would try the Penrose X only because of the planar magnetic drivers. They have unique sound and performance to them. The Portals are great but would be similar to your Airpod Max headphones with regards to dynamics.
The mic on the mobius is amazing!!! I use the mobius for pc gaming and they are the best! Sound is unbelievably amazing!!! The build quality is the worst though. Not even a year of use and they already cracked. I am currently looking for an upgrade. So please recommend me something that sound better than the mobius.
Sadly nothing else sounds like a planar for gaming right now because that's the nature of the driver technology. They are in a different league in that mid range area. There are good headsets with dynamic drivers but I can't suggest something that sounds too different
Sucks that you have issues with them. I've had my pair for 3 months now with zero issues. Granted my Xbox is wired and I have zero devices using WiFi while gaming. Still they sound better than any other wireless headsets I've used for my Xbox including the Gen 4 Astro A50s and the Portals.
Sadly I'm not sure how many people would watch those haha. Maybe one day for the right product I'll just make a secondary video that goes insanely deep on specs or some unique things with a product in addition to a normal review.
I can work on this in a month or two. Normally I would do this sooner but I am packing everything up as I'm moving to a new state and setting up a new studio! Keep an eye on the channel, and sorry I can't do it sooner!
I’ve been wanting to get a planar magnetic headphone but mainly use it as a wired connection. I’ve been debating if I should get the Hyperx Orbit or an Audeze. 🤨
I had they HyperX, and they are best used on PC via USB. Connection to the 3.5mm Controller they do sound as good as they are on PC since the 7.1 won't work. Penrose is really close to the HyperX sound on PC. Make sure with the Penrose that the dongle is fully in sight of where the headset is. Also, make sure to either limit your 2.4Ghz devices on your router, or just turn it off. May cause interference.
I don't really mind wireless or wired, I'm just looking for the best sound quality headset for competitive gaming on Xbox, shooters like apex or halo. Budget is 300 bucks, do you recommend going for these or is there a better wired headset for a similar price?
For Xbox? Penrose is the best sounding headset and it's no contest. The A50 sounds really nice, but is more reliable/easy to use for audio adjustments when gaming. Wireless stability is better on A50 as well.
I was about to ask the same question. I am a console user and I have both the series x and ps5. I need to know how to setup the headset properly before using them.
Depends on if you need closed back or not. The Penrose X still sounds incredible, especially being a closed back headphone. Plus it has it's own amp, wireless, and BT support, unlike the H6PRO which is nearly half the cost. If you're just plugging into a controller and want a loud competitive headset, the H6PRO closed back is a great option. The open backs are a bit softer but sound more natural.
I have an Arctis 9X and wouldn't use the Audeze (too many issues), anything you can suggest that beats the 9x for xbox only gaming that does NOT use a dongle or wire? Thanks!
The Portal is great but not worth the cost upgrade for pure Xbox gaming. The Stealth 700 Gen 2 is too similar to your 9X to bother switching. With that being said, for a direct pairing headset you essentially have one of the best.
I’m looking to buy this headset, and I was wonder if I change the eq settings on pc and after use it on Xbox, will the settings save and work on Xbox aswell? I know you said it has to be wired to change the profiles, does it have to be wired all the time or just to change the profile? And without the connection issues does te headset sounds really good on Xbox aswell? And have they used the issues?
It sounds spectacular on Xbox and yes the presets save to the Penrose. You can actually toggle through all of your EQ presets while only connected to Xbox now thanks to a firmware update too. It works great.
@@GadgetryTech No No No, I wish you didn’t reply, I made peace with myself for owning Corsair virtuoso xt, it does have a few issues on Xbox, but now I’m definitely getting those penrose x, I want that sound that everyone is talking about. Thanks a lot for replying, your comment helped me make my mind about this headset.
This is the best headset review I've ever heard on a headset. Finally a person that goes IN DEPTH on SQ and its sound characteristics. I think it's baffling that 98% of youtubers that review headsets will have a 10 min video and spend 10 seconds on SQ.
Yea, this is true... gained a sub immediately.

That Techne guy really has trouble verbalizing sound quality and differences in headsets. So I get what you're saying.
You nailed it with this recommendation. Thank you again.
Chino thank you so much for the super chat!! So happy to hear you like them. Best of luck, and pop by the channel once in a while!
Thanks Matt! I’ve been meaning to post on Head-Fi more since Can Jam!

If you’re hardcore you connect the Penrose to the controller with aux, then the USB cable to PC. Open the Audeze software then you can control EQ, mic, and game to chat mix like a boss. Best sound for $300 if you can deal with that setup.
Amazing review. Thanks!

How would you compare the Penrose X with the arctis 9? Is the Penrose like, drastically better?

Straight up, BnO portal or the penrose x which headset are you picking for ease of use, functionality and sound quality???

I have seen your review on B&O portal. Which one would you recommend between Audeze Penrose and B&O without considering the price? Thanks.
The Portals are great but would be similar to your Airpod Max headphones with regards to dynamics.
thank you so much for helping me make the decision. the other reason why i consider b&o is because of its great design. thanks again for your help.
@@butch5187 no problem! you can’t go wrong with either but if you want something unique the Penrose will feel like more of an event.
For console gaming in just terms of sound plugged in 3.5mm or wireless?
Would like a comparison video between the Penrose X vs Lucidsound LS50X.
I’ll likely do that along with a couple others if possible. Thanks!
All good! At least I know how to sort the issue out and still enjoy them a bunch. I've still enjoyed them a lot.
Give us your 1hr videos diving deep!!
Sadly I'm not sure how many people would watch those haha. Maybe one day for the right product I'll just make a secondary video that goes insanely deep on specs or some unique things with a product in addition to a normal review.
Any way you would do a video on hooking up a penrose with an Astro tr mixamp and best settings?
I can work on this in a month or two. Normally I would do this sooner but I am packing everything up as I'm moving to a new state and setting up a new studio! Keep an eye on the channel, and sorry I can't do it sooner!
How they work with pc both wireless and BT? Did you have any issue? Looking to buy one of them.
This same review applies to the normal Penrose aswell right? (the blue one)
yes
only no xbox compatibility
May cause interference.
the orbits are audeze headphones. they are wired versions of the mobius with hyper x badging on them. They are identical in build to the audeze's
I don't really mind wireless or wired, I'm just looking for the best sound quality headset for competitive gaming on Xbox, shooters like apex or halo.
Budget is 300 bucks, do you recommend going for these or is there a better wired headset for a similar price?
In wired mode its hard to beat this for $300. The VZR Model One is a good option too though! I plan on releasing that review soon!
I’m looking for a headset with great game sound… I’m torn between these or the Astro a50’s, any suggestions?
For Xbox? Penrose is the best sounding headset and it's no contest. The A50 sounds really nice, but is more reliable/easy to use for audio adjustments when gaming. Wireless stability is better on A50 as well.
The only thing I've heard is that the ear pads tend to break up from the head part. So they tend to break a lot.
How are these compared to hyperx cloud orbit s ...
Can I use the 3.5 jack connected to my Xbox controller, the ps penrose version?
Does the EQ presets on pc get stored on the headset so you can use that specific EQ on both consoles?
I was about to ask the same question. I am a console user and I have both the series x and ps5. I need to know how to setup the headset properly before using them.
Audeze Penrose X or EPOS H6 Pro? Which would you choose for competitive gaming?
9x takes some beating,I'm still testing my penrose on my series x
Do these sound better than sennheiser 598 sr headphones? They are wired but mine are getting worn out.
Can you use them as a wired connection like to your controller? And would you still have any issues?
the audio in the EQ saves to the headset and use it in Xbox? or the EQ is only for PC gaming?
Any idea if planar magnetic cause more radiation than normal drivers? (yes i am talking about nuclear Radiation)
I'm conflicted, I need a headset that's able to Bluetooth at the same time to my phone, while I play on PC, what do you recommend 400$ and under?
