With my personal sample size of one friend who admitted to scrawling their number into bathroom stall, they can corroborate there are a lot of made up numbers out there, as well as people who say the number is not theirs. The quote they gave me is” Its like LinkedIn for certain enthusiasts, and like LinkedIn it’s almost comically out of date, and mostly still used by people over 40”, and shall we say some of the names attached to those numbers can act as a sort of caller ID. In the spirit of not being needlessly explicit, that’s the low down I’ve been given.

      Maybe if the ball moved much slower, it could work. A bit more like playing chess by mail.

    • @Moingboy
      @Moingboy 7 лет назад +49

      Make it an app, have a decent window of time (like, a bigger ball, or something), and, for evidence, make it take a picture (a selfie or something). The app, when not taking a picture, is displaying the current location of the ball, and dots for the x most recent selfies on each coast. Any of the X most recent selfies count for hitting the ball. I'd suggest that 8 hour traversal (one coast to the other) would be decent, and that it should be delineated with a small-ish no play zone in the middle of the country. There could also be various regional "servers" for inclusiveness: a north-south one, a mexico-canada one, trans-atlantic... etc. I think it's viable, but not as a website.

    • @theceleryman
      @theceleryman 7 лет назад +48

      Having it start pretty slow is a good idea, and then have it speed up gradually over time. When one side misses the ball, it resets. Then tweak the initial velocity and acceleration of the ball as you gather data.
      This is such a cool idea, but I know just enough about app development to know I don't know enough about app development to build it.

    Re: mobility scooter office chair conga.
    I actually did something very similar to this as a kid. One of my best friends growing up was a paraplegic who got around in an electric-powered wheelchair. He had these little bars on the back of his wheelchair that were basically there to keep it from tipping backwards. And we'd stand on those and get rides.
    Then we upped the ante a bit. One time he wanted to have his birthday party at a skating rink and at one point he was pulling maybe a half dozen of us around the skating rink -- one person holding on to the handles of his wheelchair, and everyone else holding on to the person in front of them.

    Once upon a time, I worked at a LAN center on the weekends, and a furniture store on the weekdays. While driving around delivering furniture, we occasionally had to stop at portable toilets. I carried a sharpie with me, and I'd write "For a good time call X" where X is whatever the phone number to the LAN center was back then. I told my boss about this and he was initially angry, but as I explained my reasoning he began to like the idea of some trucker finding this number, calling it, and then coming in to play video games or tell someone about the video games. If I recall correctly, we had a few calls. Now, you may be questioning whether we wanted a customer who is the type to call those numbers, and sure, why not? If they pay and don't cause trouble, we'd welcome anyone.

    The board game idea reminded me of a game night plan that never came to fruition: have all attendees assigned to a team, each member of the team is playing a different game, but must switch at intervals and take over where a teammate left off. For example: four teams (red, blue, green and yellow) with one member from each playing Chutes and Ladders, Clue, Chinese Checkers, and Monopoly (switch out the traditional pieces for plain colored ones). Each time a player in Chutes and Ladders lands on a chute, players on that team must rotate.

    I can write the skit for the Heron simulator.
    Have someone dressed up in a cheap (cheep!) Bird costume walking through a nieghbourhood with pictures of herons either on the door, in the window, or a sign in the yard.
    Smash cut to a house without the sign. Cue dramatic music as the heron runs up and throws the door open. Crashing noises are heard from the house. Heron leaves and shuts the door behind them.
    Cue the next morning, someone comes down to find their pots and pans in a disarray in the kitchen, with a single feather on the counter.
    I mentally picture Chris or Tim doing this for some reason.

    Isn't "Amazon Fulfillment Heist" essentially just the opening to one of The Stainless Steel Rat books? Also the whole part where they hide out in a fully automated fast food restaurant and avoid getting caught by paying for the food they eat while they are in there is remarkably close to being actually possible.

    "Trade your morals for discounts" doesn't sound like a good real-world idea, but sounds like an AMAZING idea for a RUclips skit or something. Not in a prank channel sort of way as those people don't have any morals TO trade off, but as a scripted thing where all the parts are being played by a group of friends.
    Could even be taken in a horror/dark humor direction where the last challenge is "kill your best friend for 100% off" and creepy string music plays as we see the main character texting their friend. Right before the happy music resumes and it cuts to them gleefully skipping down the street with a brand new .
    Actually, the more I describe it, the more I could totally see it being a Cyanide & Happiness short.

While invalidating other protests by having them not count. Or even get people to protest for subjects they are actually not in favor of, just to get the points.

    My idea of a protest clock is a clock that keeps track of when there is an ongoing protest in the national news, and resets each time. But that could hardly be used for evil.
    I have to guess it's a clock actually used in protests. Maybe it goes off at random times at protests to interrupt everyone? That's sorta evil, right?

    10:00 I had that exact idea, with that big game being a Mario Party board built in real life and all the mini games being replaced with board games. My main problem was finding board games that could be played fairly 3v1. The only ones I found like that involved a secret traitor that couldn’t be predetermined, and I didn’t even have many of those. The other problem was finding three other people with the patience to actually do all that.

    Board game that effects other board games: Ticket to Monopoly. (Ticket to Ride and Monopoly, simultaneously.)
    Each player starts Monopoly with a Transport. You need to hold it unencumbered to claim Routes or draw Destination Tickets in TTR. You can buy/sell completed Routes to/from other players. Owning property in Monopoly allows you to draw face-up Train Cards of matching colours (utilities == locomotives). Get some free Train Cards when passing Go.
    TODO: something in TTR that effects Monopoly gameplay. Maybe a cash bonus on Route completion?
    Winner by highest combined normalised score, a turn after someone goes Bankrupt or runs out of train markers, or immediately if all Destination Tickets are completed.

    I feel painfully young anytime someone starts talking about the Gameboy or not having to take your belt off at the airport, or getting to meet celebrities who died before I was aware of their existence. I have this experience much more often than I am made to feel old (though that usually involves floppy discs, flip phones, or Disney movies), and I usually retaliate (against being made to feel young) by making the person who has made me feel young feel old.
