i love this song for the parallels between it and older songs! like the "face from a magazine" line is originally from robbers, and "i never found love in the city" is in relation to the city but in that song the lyrics are "you wanna find love then you know where the city is" so i always find it amusing how here he says he's been deceived and never found love in the city- when it's what He said in the first place
him messing around with the gun like robbers too is great

This is one of my favorite songs/music videos of their's because it's like a crossing point of all sorts of other material of their's. There's so many references to other songs within the lyrics, this music video is referenced in the Somebody Else and I'm In Love With You music videos, and the storyline of the song itself fits into a larger story that spans multiple songs (The City -> Robbers -> Change of Heart -> Somebody Else -> About You (and i might be forgetting a couple in there but that's the gist)). One of my absolute favorite things about this band is how self-referential they are, almost everything they do has references to other work of their own embedded in it so it's like a fun easter egg hunt for the fans. And for me, and lots of other fans, this song seems to kind of be right in the middle of all that, where a bunch of their references to themselves all come together. I love it! So glad u reacted to it
"Somebody Else" music video is the continuation of this song. You should react to it too!
I like to call the sound effects in the song the drowning synth cat miaow.😂
hey suffi! some important info about this song: this is from their second album released in 2016 called “i like it when you sleep for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it” (lol a really long title) idk if you remember the song robbers from when you did the first album, but this song is a callback to robbers because in that song, he says “she had a face straight out a magazine” and here, he says “you used to have a face straight out of a magazine, now you just look like anyone”. the relationship in robbers thrived off of thrill, danger, and excitement..the honeymoon phase if you will. and this song is kind of the aftermath of that i think.

@@SuffiReax they do this a lot throughout their discography! they are a very conceptual band and connect every aspect of their artistry together. they connect songs from different albums, reference past songs/music videos in other music videos, and they also incorportate it all into their live shows as well. matty speaks a lot in interviews about being very self referential! it’s what makes them so fascinating to me, because of how smart and purposeful they are with every aspect of their music and band as a whole.

just listening to your analogy of the video , and yes you are right , we are rarely the same person 10 years down the line as the one we were in the first 10 weeks . the image we project in the early days will soon fade over time , as we get more comfortable with the person sitting across the table we allow more of our true self to show , this tends to be when the problems start imo , we either grow together or we grow apart 🙂

I really think you will love the entirety of the “I like it when you sleep” album. There newest one that you’ve been working through is very reminiscent of “I like it when you sleep” but with more of a maturity that came with them aging and sobering up ❤

I take the video as she thinks it's all fun and games and exciting playing the clown until she realises it's just who he is, that it is permanent and get's sick of the silliness and not taking anything seriously. Matty said "I am, have always been and always will be a clown. I think it can tire people."

Is this song about halsey? Cause he said "i just had a change of heart" and in the song "colors" halsey says "You were red and you liked me 'cause I was blue
But you touched me and suddenly I was a lilac sky
And you decided purple just wasn't for you"
