Love this version of a wrap skirt with the buttons. Thank you for showing how to draft a simple beginner friendly wrap skirt pattern and for the clear sewing instructions!
What a fantastic video! Your instructions were so clear! After years of avoiding sewing clothing, I am so excited and encouraged by how well my skirt came out! Thank you so much!!!
Just what I was looking for. I began a new healthy lifestyle intervention: Riding my bicycle to church. Instead of going to restroom to change into a skirt, I wrap around my biker shorts and into church service I go. Saves time and I do not have to carry my side bike bag inside. Thanks for having a sharing heart. God bless your creative mind. Love Sister Dee
I so, so much love this! How empowering to learn a bit about pattern making. Yes, I ran into a few problems but all was adaptable (waistband a bit too short). I will be making this over and over until I get it right in a variety of fabrics. Thank you so much for all your time and skill involved to make this video for us all. Much appreciation from Texas:). I wrote down the timestamps to help all: 4 measurements-1.08 supplies (pattern making)-4.39 calculations-5.50 creating pattern-6.18 cutting instructions-10.19 waistband measurement-13.52 sewing darts-14.14 sewing panels-16.20 sewing wrap edge seams-18.33 sewing hem seam-19.53 sewing/making waistband-21.00 sewing/making button loops-23.13 finish waistband-25.39 button attachment-26.50
@@missmaker7298 I also ran out of fabric so found a nice contrasting fabric and used this for the inside front panel. It looks great & occasionally shows the surprise mixed patterns. So many options!
What a brilliant teacher Miss Maker is! I have had a go making patterns from favourite clothes but they never work very well so really appreciated the guidance here. I want my wrap skirt to have a tie waist so will keep the internal button and loop and my brain will be working hard to work out how to manage the external tie....
Thanks so much for your lovely comments Dawn, great to hear you are enjoying the videos. Yes, it would be easy to replace the outer button and loop with ties. Instead of the button loop sandwich one tie into the outer waistband end, create a second tie and attach it to the waist band about 5cm away from where the outer waistband end would overlap, secure it with some nice neat top stitching and you'll have a lovely side tie instead :o) xx
Thank you so much for this fantastic video! I learned so much. I realized my hips are long and straight (not rounded), so I had to modify (remove the curbs) my paper pattern a little bit and I love the resulting wrap skirt.
Thank you so much for this fantastic tutorial 🥰You are really good explaining all the steps. I especially liked how to draft the pattern using my measurements.
This is a great tutorial and very clear and slow making it easy to understand. I've come back to this several times and the material I bought last year is still waiting. lol. I am not an off the peg sizing and I haven't made myself anything for years so love the ease of working out my measurements. Hopefully I will put this into practise very soon. A big G'Day from an Ex UK/Aust viewer 🖐
for skirt length I dangle the beginning of the tape down whilst looking in a long mirror. when the tape start is at the right length the measurement is read easily at my waist x
Thank you for the excellent video. I do have an observation re the waistband length measurement. It's to be 1.5 x my waist measurement plus 4 cms but that will not fit. When drawing out the pattern, you add 2 cm to each of the sides so you are adding a total of 12 cms to the waist measurement (2 cm x 2 sides of the pattern for the back and 2 cm x 2 sides of the pattern for the sides x 2).
Hi there, Yes. That gives you movement ease of 6cm each side. As a wrap skirt you can always wrap it tighter to get your desired fit. By all means leave out the 2cm each side if you'd rather a snug fit.
@missmaker7298 Thank you! Mine is done but I'm considering adding a bit of elastic in the waistband to snug it up a bit. I think my hip to waist measurements aren't the ideal (more hip than usual for my waist!). Again, thank you for your quick response.
Hi there. I would add a dart to the frotlnt pattern peices too. Do it in exactly the same way you add the back darts. (Extend the side seam out the total of the dart and add dart about 10cm in from the side seam) This will add a little extra shaping. If you need a larger adjustment that this you can increase the length of the centre front of the pattern then curve the waistline and hemline back to the original length at the sides.
Hello Miss Maker & THANK YOU for this easy to follow tutorial. Question: How would this pattern work with a lightweight 'flowy' fabric that was cut on the bias? Thanks again!
Hi there, thanks for the lovely comment. You could use this same tutorial but cut your skirt pieces on the bias. I would recommend carefully stay stitching all bias edges to ensure they do not stretch out of shape as you work with them though. 👍👍
Hi there, Yes, this skirt is made up in a woven fabric, for stretch fabric you could use 2cm seam allowances to give it a little negative ease. Being a wrap skirt it's very easy to adjust sizing 👍👍
Hi there, thanks for your comment. If you have a look at my maxi skirt tutorial it takes you through how to make a waistband with ties, if you make one side longer that the other you can make them meet to tie at front or back. Hope that helps, thanks for your comment
Fab, glad you like it! If it was a standard A-line skirt with a zip closure then yes, you'd want to build in some ease, but as it is a wrap skirt there is plenty more fabric than waist measurment. We also add the darts to the side of the pattern before taking them away. So should be a good fit.
Hi! New subscriber here. Would you please also add in inches if possible? Thank you for this tutorial! I plan to make me a few in different fabrics and lengths. ❤
Hi there Sarah. It really depends on how long you wish to make your skirt and the width of your fabric. Around three times the length of your skirt will be plenty, (eg for a 50cm skirt 1.5m)

Well done! And a perfect use for it. Xx
Beautiful description of how to make the skirt without a pattern. I will look for more from you. Ontario, Canada.
Thanks for the tutorial. You explain slowly and clearly in English that is easy to understand, very helpful for me who is from Indonesia.
Great, so pleased you found it helpful :o)

Wow! Thank you so much for teaching me. I will edit for simplicity for all. I love finding more tips for easier use.
Yes, you describe everything so perfect! Thank you! You really helped me understand this. I have my material, can't wait to make my wrap skirt!

Thank you for your clear, easy to follow instructions. Looks a perfect little skirt for North Queensland, Australia.
Fabulous, hope you have fun giving it a go!
Excellent directions. Thank you so much. I’ve wanted to make some skirts here for summer in just a few months. Very easy to follow!!!

Excellent instructions! Thanks a lot!
Very well explained, easy to follow it step by step.
Can you make a wrap skirt that can be tied together at the waist
Thank you so much am going to have go tomorrow, fingers crossed
Good luck with it!
Thank you for the great video. How do you adjust the pattern if you have a tummy and want the hem line to look straight when standing?
Hi there. I would add a dart to the frotlnt pattern peices too. Do it in exactly the same way you add the back darts. FINALLY a tutorial that made the skirt I was actually wanting!
Fantastic tutorial, thank you. 👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it 👍👍
Your so easy to follow. Good teacher! If the measurements = around waist, where is the overlap?
Thanks so much for the lovely comment. Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for this tutorial. Just wondering about when you cut out the front pieces...do tbey mirror each other or are they facing the same way? Thanks.
They mirror each other, best to cut on folded fabric so you get a left and a right. 😀
Beautifully explained... Thank you
Many thanks, gald you enjoyed it!
Awesome thankyou so so much x
Hello Miss Maker & THANK YOU for this easy to follow tutorial.

How much and what kind of fabric is needed? Thank you for the tutorial! It is wonderful!
Hi there, you will need about 1m of fabric. A nice cotton pattern will work great
Loved this can you do one for a t shirt 😀
Fab idea! T-shirts will go on the list! xxxx
I assume the fabric used was woven, non stretch. For fabric with stretch, would you change the seam allowance? Any other changes?
Hi there, Yes, this skirt is made up in a woven fabric, for stretch fabric you could use 2cm seam allowances to give it a little negative ease. Being a wrap skirt it's very easy to adjust sizing 👍👍
I appreciate you showing us how to do this But I would like to tie mine in the back on the front which ever one

Loved it
Thanks Grace, glad you liked it!
Perfect to wear on a windy day,
Excellent!!!
Thank you very much for the detail diy video!!!
I love the tutorial. Since you used the exact waist measurement, won't the waist be too tight when you take in the darts?
Fab, glad you like it! If it was a standard A-line skirt with a zip closure then yes, you'd want to build in some ease, but as it is a wrap skirt there is plenty more fabric than waist measurment. We also add the darts to the side of the pattern before taking them away. So should be a good fit.
Thanks so much I appreciate it❤❤❤
No problem 😊
I did not get the total width of the waistband? I got lost after folding the edge under 1.5 cm.
The total width you cut is 8cm. The finished width is 2.5cm. Each turnover is 1.5cm. (2.5+2.5+1.5+1.5=8)
Hi! New subscriber here. Would you please also add in inches if possible? Thank you for this tutorial! I plan to make me a few in different fabrics and lengths. ❤
Beginner sewer here - how much fabric does this project require?
Hi there Sarah. It really depends on how long you wish to make your skirt and the width of your fabric. Around three times the length of your skirt will be plenty, (eg for a 50cm skirt 1.5m)
Thanks a lot . You explained everything beautifully. Keep it up. It is to request you please tell how to stich a simple home wear wrap dress also.
Thanks! I just made myself a skirt for 1euro😊
