There hasn't anybody even come close. Elvis achieved so much in his short life, he lived and he loved and he gave to so many. If he heard something that touched his heart he wasn't going to sit idle and do nothing. Elvis would alway's reach out to help because he was a true southern gentlemen that knew his place in this world. He had a soft heart and would never do anything malicious. ELVIS could sing any song with conviction. He believed in every song he sang. He took it deep in his soul and every emotion he ever felt came out immersed in the lyrics. You listening to to them felt his heartbreak, excitement, passion as your very own. So you feel connected on a spiritual level. YOU experience the emotion he conveyed. You can do that because he believed his song. A song is a Dream and all Elvis' dreams came true. How can you not love him for that? Elvis was fascinated by power but had so much respect for Authority. He has Blatant Sensuality, but could be a shy Momma's boy. These multiple aspects of his personality seemed to enhance his immage, account for the way his appeal bridge cultural, economic, generational gaps all over the world. Women could lust after him or want to mother him or be his little sister. He was macho enough for young studs to admire, but was devoutly religious & believed in family values. In a strange way Elvis had became everyman. There was always a part of him that struck a responsive cord in the listener - as if he had became a part of you, or you of him.
He is finally at peace now..he's singing among all the angels. Thank you Elvis for all of your beautiful music. Thank you God for sharing him with us. He was and still is a blessing to many... we miss you..til we meet some day..
The sheer quantity of songs that this man learned by heart and could sing in concert is staggering. He must have had a phenomenal gift for learning new material in addition to all his other musical gifts. It's one thing to sing a song with the lyrics at hand, it's quite another to sing the lyrics from memory. He must have had the musical memory of an opera singer as well as the voice.
I always found it easier to memorize songs than anything else. When you get the rhythm, things really come together. Of course I doubt I know half as many songs as Elvis forgot, and I hardly know all of his songs. But I do find it a lot easier to pick up a new song than memorize poetry or a book or something.
The Jordinares said in a 1977 interview that Elvis could listen to a demo 3-4 times and get up and sing the entire thing in the microphone. That he only chose songs he lived in, he felt emotionally described himself. Once that happened he could memorize the lyrics because he lived it. That's also why we feel so connected to him in songs. He is singing the same way we feel too.
You are SO fortunate and lucky to have seen him live in concert...I don't know how I would have handled it, I was bouncing off of the walls and ceiling with excitement watching Elvis in Concert on television and then they repeated it a month or so later, but that FIRST viewing...WOW, I felt the MAGIC that makes Elvis, ELVIS, and my Mom saw it with me the second time and said how cute he was when he left the stage showing the number one sign!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
