Looking for a new shoe for Spartan races. I recently used the Speedcross 6 and the race we finished was extremely muddy and I felt the shoe slipping off and my ankles rolled alot. Gonna give these a try. Thanks for the review!

Great in depth review love these shoes always asking myself why aren't there more gaitered shoes as (must be getting foot in issue) I only do trail runs and hate debris intake with low cut ankle shoes, seen the blue raidlite gator shoes wonder how they measure up? Great work.

I realise you don’t have loads of salomon shoes but have you seen the s lab speed 2? They stopped that and I loved it but this seems like it might be why they stopped that line
I love this concept especially the upper ankle part is fantastic to avoid that fastidious mud or little stones I believe. I would be curious about testing that shoe on a sandy volcanic terrain.

Hi Loyd, thanks for a great review. How do these compare to the Hoka Jawz? These have always been my go to shoes for wet/muddy conditions when I want to run fast.
The Jawz is a fantastic shoe in wet, soft, muddy conditions Dano 👌 I'd say they are quite similar. The Jawz is a bit lighter and more flexible but the Salomon shoe would give you a bit more underfoot protection. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's really appreciated 🙏😊
Thank you! Found the version 1 of this shoe to be too harsh for anything other than very soft ground, which is mostly lacking here in Colorado. The Speedland PDX, in contrast, is agile and comfortable on rock as well as muddy and boggy trails. Just raced the PDX in the bayous of Louisiana and won’t be going back to Salomon anytime soon! Always enjoy your videos!
It's definitely a soft ground shoe Troy and it is quite aggressive. It did actually run a bit more comfortable than I expected though 😊 I know you like the Speedland shoe but I'll never spend that sort of money on a ruining shoe, it's bonkers! They look great for my local area and style of footstrike. Have you seen the couple of reviews on the Salomon site on these? Saying that they have a fatal flaw in that they let in dirt and debris somehow down a gap in the upper that gets stuck around the laces? Can't see how that would be but I've never seen them in real life. Thanks for the video, i'd been looking forward to it!

I have the Salomon S/LAB CROSS and S/LAB SENSE 8 SG, I love those shoes! They are quite narrow and had to stretch them a bit since I have quite wide feet, but they are my favorit running shoes depending on the surface I run on. I am a forefoot runner and like the fact they have so little drop... Another shoe I quite like is the Asics GEL-FujiTrabuco SKY... For real winter adventure I have the Salomon S/LAB XA Alpine 2...

Thanks for this! I’ve found all my s/lab shoes need to be half size down compared to my daily Salomons, so 10.5 in these (and Ultra 3s) compared to 11 in my Wildcross and Ultra Glides. The shoe looks soooo small compared to my other shoes due to its race-orientated fit, like a dainty slipper when I hold it next to my Ultra Glides!!

The S Lab cross 2 is quite similar to the Sense 8 SG. They are both lightweight, luggy trail shoes. However the Speedcross is very different, it's a lot heavier and higher in the heel off set 👍 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏

Looks like a great shoe for the sloppy trails in winter. Not sure you'd want to be doing much road or hard packed transfer in them though! I assume you'd need to wear socks that extend past the cuff on the shoe?

Love this shoe and have the first version. Wish there were more low to the ground nimble offerings. Not a big fan of plated, high stack or high drop shoes for trail or road. I run in these on trail and Reebok Run Fast Pros on street (Love the Run Fast Pros) I’m curious though, whether this second iteration improves on anything. Asking, because although I love them. The heel portion could be a just a little more secure though. Might just be due to me having a slightly high instep.
I don't think there's a lot of changes to the new version of the shoe. The upper has had a slight re-design so it might have improved things. Obviously fit of a running shoe upper is so personal but I find the fit of the Cross 2 amazing! I actually ran in it today and I forgot to pull the Speed laces down and the upper still felt really well locked down around my foot. Thanks for watching the channel and Happy New year! 🎉

The squirrels in tehidy have got really aggressive from people feeding them! They have even scratched children a few times now, so you're right to be wary! I usually find salomon too narrow and restrictive in the mid and front, looks like the mid will be too tight for me on this shoe. The only exception is the slab ultra 3, great shoe!
They are definitely very confident around people that's for sure! Salomon shoes tend to be narrow at the midfoot but these are the narrowest shoes I e ever seen! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
Salomon is killing it with those S/LAB products; shoes, hydration packs etc. Most of them have sth that differentiates them from the competition. However, they are really expensive. :( I would never buy any of these at retail price.

There's not a great deal of difference between model 1 and 2 David 👍 The upper has been updated with some new overlays but the midsole and outsole are pretty much the same. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊

@@Run4Adventure yes, Salomon sorted it out. But still I'm affraid to get new pair for orienteering. Instead I got VJ Bold X s since they are really bomb proof. I will keep Salomon shoes on the trails only, unless they come up with something that is actually really durable. Cross 2s also collect a lot debris between the upper and the sock liner at the toe section. On the other hand they are really nice to run on "technical" trails and off trail too.

The upper isn't that durable. I punched a hole right through it on the first proper orienteering session.
Also the midsole looks pretty scuffed.
I've always found the Matryx uppers to be pretty durable and I haven't had any issues with my S/Lab cross 2 🤔

@@Run4Adventure yes, Salomon sorted it out. But still I'm affraid to get new pair for orienteering.
Instead I got VJ Bold X s since they are really bomb proof. I will keep Salomon shoes on the trails only, unless they come up with something that is actually really durable.
Cross 2s also collect a lot debris between the upper and the sock liner at the toe section. On the other hand they are really nice to run on "technical" trails and off trail too.
