I’ve been talking with my buddy Dan and perhaps this summer I’ll make a trip back to the homeland and head over to Jack town. It would be great to meet up with ya there!

I’m on total media blackout too! I am absolutely wrecked by the recent turn of events. I have also been watching vintage shows like Barney Miller and Lost in Space and Star Trek. I love those old doorknobs and accessories.
When I was fresh out of high school I purchased a house that had those oval door knobs! I always liked the way they felt, you could really good a good purchase on the door knob! I wish today door handles had style and character like that!
Your videos aren't ever too long. More than 100 years old, and that brest drill is still a remarkable tool. The old door hardware reminds me of the dinky 1920s bungalow I restored. It had the same hinges in brass plated steel, only mine were made by Stanley. The door escutcheon plate on one door was stamped copper in a cool art deco design. Cleaning up all that old hardware with 60 years of various layers of paint and crud was tedious, but the results were worth it. I even used the original slotted screws. Somehow I'm not surprised that you have a clothespin collection. Someone has to do it. Thanks.
Japanese Industrial Standard is all about the profile. I have seen many JIS screwdrivers, but not the serrated tip variant before. Get a set of standard JIS and compare them. I have always been amazed by people who attack JIS screws with Philips head screwdrivers and then complain about the result. One tip is a lot of manufacturers put a small dot on the head of JIS screws to warn you not to use Phillips Head Screwdrivers on them in the first place. I wonder what these combination JIS serrated edge tools would do to small carby screws after a few uses? If I was working on a Japanese carby that I cared about, I would stick to standard JIS and leave the serrated things for experiments on screws I didn't want to use again a few times, just in case.
John, those old door knobs are so cool to see. They would last forever. Tool Addict recommended a new start up channel today. The channel is called FastFix. First video today was restoring a Victor vise.John you are what people consider an old soul person! I have been accused of that myself but not to the degree you have achieved. I love old things that are made in the USA. Love your channel! 🇺🇸Roger
Nice vintage door hardware. I use door hinges for woodbox lids and stuff. Nice to get Miller Falls utility blades to go with. Santa Rosa is some nice stuff. That homemade scraper might be a automotive brake drum adjustment spoon. T-Wrecks clothes pins look heavy duty. Patina Patrol decal 😂. That drill is something else. I've never knew of Yankee brand. Thing is like a Eaton-Fuller transmission. Sounds like my 10 speed Schwinn too. Seriously does it have a clutch pedal too 😂. Jon Crane with that manual speed screwdriver. I first learned of those in a episode on Breaking Bad 📺. Nice haul from everyone. Scoutcrafter, Thanks for uploading 👍
Ive never commented here before so I thought I'd let you know how much I enjoy your channel. The episode with the Stanley sweetheart tape measure i loved the information. I went and purchased one and later purchased one for my brother. The steel dust pan was the same so I gifted one to my mother. I'm old but I enjoy seeing tools that are new to me. Love the information. Thanks
Hey Scout! I’ve quit watching the fake media too. I’ve found it quite refreshing. Found some great old stuff; Hogan’s Heroes, The Twilight Zone, The Fugitive, etc. they don’t make em like that anymore. As always, thanks for your videos. A Scoutcrafter video cannot be too long!!!
I have a new love - that Yankee drill is just an amazing engineering feat! I would love to find one of those ad restore it. I am a Yankee screwdriver fan anyway and reach for my large one before I go for the cordless drill anymore. Its just more pleasing to manually, yet effortlessly do the job instead of letting a motor do it. A friend and I were working on the same job putting screws into some wood. I beat him with my Yankee! Now, granted, if it comes to stuck screws, the drill is better! Great video John. Thanks for the diversion :)
You could tie Salmon flies and make fishing lures in this lovely little woodworking vice John. I lusted after a one and a quarter inch brass fly reel for more than a year, but my wife said no to the £100 plus price tag. Such is life😢
Up until about a a year ago Sears sold a 2-piece Craftsman screwdriver set made by Vessel for about 15-20 dollars depending on the sale. The impact cam types you pointed out, and Made in Japan right on the package. A flat and a "PH2" which is really a JIS driver from how it works. If you can find someone reselling them (as people do) they're a must-buy. The handles are gorgeous and no matter what grease or dirt gets on them they always clean up nicely with some isopropyl. PS: Most "philips" screws on Shimano bike parts are also JIS. And JIS is mainly known to Americans who have and/or work on Japanese motorcycles.
That was a great video! So many nice tools from some really nice people. I have to check out the vessel tools, they look good. You told us about Jon Crane last year and I have been watching him ever since. Wonderful channe plus he from jersey! The breast drill was amazing. Thanks for sharing.
I'm trying the blackout thing myself, but man is it hard! lol A good buddy of mine always tells me I'm going to keel over one of these days of a stroke or heart attack if I don't stop consuming the poison of mainstream news.
Sooo the stickers... after i mailed them I thought “oh snikes “ I cannot make enough of those decals to keep up with your viewership... but you can have the digital files and have stickers made up from a sticker company. Oh and that was not me alone, Resto Rob and Magdad both helped me iron out the design! I love this community!!
I would buy a bucket hat with that logo in a heartbeat!! Great job. And if you ever make the “50/50” themed T-shirts sign me up for a few of them as well!!
Of course you have a clothes pin collection. If there is more than two of something, it must be collected! I have clothes pins on my workbench that I use regularly. From my model building days, I have some there i turned the spring around and use the flat ends as the pin. Works great for covering long flat surfaces
Anytime I get my hands on something like that instruction sheet you showed I scan it and upload a copy to Archive.org to preserve it (at least digitally) for history...............My Grandparents on Mom's side, who both died when I was a kid had the skeleton key lock on the front door, I always thought that was neat as a kid............That Drill must have cost a small fortune when it was new, what a fantastic piece of engineering.
Best way to clean painted door hardware is to boil in water with some TSP and detergent. The paint easily comes off and the plating is not damaged. Then use Boeshield to protect the surface and to provide lubrication.
I am in a house that was built in 1947 and it has good doors and hardware and have polished all the brass and wire wheeled all the hinges. There is an old Channel Master antenna in the attic, we never had cable and with the digital TV signals I get over 40 stations and watch a lot of Twilight Zone, Perry Mason , Adam 12 etc.
John...I agree with on tuning out of the "news" and all the crap going on now. The homemade scraper at 6:50 looks like a drum brake adjusting tool-but it's one of those tools that gets used for other things too as needed...lol I just bought and received today 2 Wiha screwdrivers-combo tip slotted/#1 phillips and slotted/#2 phillips . Many of the electrical parts we use at work have combo head screws that these should work well on...can't wait! Stay safe everyone George
BSA stands for Birmingham Small Arms. I live walking distance from where their factory was, in Armoury Road. As well as military firearms, they made bikes, motorbikes, cars and buses to my knowledge, and probably other stuff. The spanner (wrench) you have was supplied with their bikes - the 4 different sizes would fit most if not all nuts on the bike - I have several, inherited from my dad, who got them from his dad, who got them with bikes he had in the 1920s/1930s.
Just put much the same thing. I love BSA for that devotion to whitworth. As a unit Triumph owner covered in whatever they had, I loved my 48 beeza. This handful of spanner’s and a few sockets is all I’m going to need to do this job. Easy!
Thanks ScoutCrafter amazing tools. My parents house all skeleton key locks always amazed me. One of the first things I fiddled with taking apart as a kid. Hooked me on mechanical devices for life.

Love your episodes & the tools you describe. The tool you described as a scraper looks to me to be a brake spoon. Those were used to adjust the brake shoes on an old car that had drum brakes. Not sure because I didn’t get a good look at it. Those clothespins, what great workmanship. All the features are crisp, clean &precise. As mischievous kids we would reverse the spring & the wooden elements so as to make a match shooter. You would cock the spring in such a way, insert a wooden match with the head sticking in the clothespin & when you released the spring it would strike the match & send it flying. Hard to explain so one could understand it but we sure had a lot of fun with them . Happy new year to you.

Man you really scored on the gifts! I’ve had pair of Weiss shop scissors for about three years, I use them to open clamshell packaging and I absolutely love them. They’ve held their edge real well and they’re sturdy. I still use clothespins but not for clothes-- for clamping small parts. The patina patrol stickers were awesome. Keep an eye out for those patina boys 😂.
John that drill is amazing, I had a collection of breast drills but sold them recently to downsize, to my regret. We may be tool guys in the main but I love the clothes peg collection. 👍👍👍🇺🇸🇬🇧🇺🇸🇬🇧

Great video. From Jack Benny to don’t be stingy with 50/50 😂. I can’t wait to see that drill restoration. I’m kinda a drill guy and have quite a few but not like that Yankee. Thank You for sharing John
I am from Napa Calif originally a town that is close to Santa Rosa. In 1969 me and some friends got stopped and were given tickets for being a minor with open cans of beer in the car. We were all sent to the Santa Rosa jail for a week. My only breast drill is a 2 speed Millers Falls that I have owned for over 40 years.

BSA combination spanner Used on bsa motorcycles. A toolkit spanner. Larger sizes as well , bsa used whitworth bolts almost exclusively , so four spanners would be almost all you’d need!
Those Vessel screwdrivers look fantastic. I'm a massive fan of Irazola screwdrivers but I could be tempted away by those Vessels. I can't wait to see home they work for you.
Such cool stuff you got especially those Japanese screwdrivers wowed me they look to me like somethings that surgeons would use installing hardware on hip and knee replacements and so forth really high tech I’ll have to see about getting at least one of those.
Have a Vessel set, the Impactas and the red and black slotted combo. Plus two all of the ball drive, no.2 and 6mm slotted. Use them every day and love them.
Good show today, you should list your collections starting with the letter A. It would be an entertaining show. It might take 10 or 12 days to show it all. Thank You
Haha with that assortment of stuff the American Pickers will knock on the door soon. Joking aside that breastdrill looks and sounds amazing! You definitely need to do a full restoration on one of those soon!
If you are on a media blackout there’s a great Orson Welles and Mercury theatre thing on the Columbia Broadcasting system you may enjoy, just typical evening radio programming. I’m sure they would only break into that program if there were a genuine emergency
Well I just love watching you and 805roadking and right on with Jon crane but I keep buying tools because you guys are forcing me into it 😆 I’m very close to ordering some “Taylor Ham” (whatever that is)😃 you guys keep up the good work 👍🏻
When you mentioned the old hinges and putting on a drop of oil I remembered about putting a drop of oil on a sqeaky one here. The door now slowly swings closed no matter where it is left. I guess the foundation has settled a bit. The house is only 12 years old or so.
At 6:50 on your timer you showed a Double ended scraper , I think it was actually a Brake adjusting tool for 50’s 60’s vehicles . Sure looks like it to me !
Hello John, after a search about Vessel screwdrivers on the internet I found somethind that I didn't know at all... that there is a type of screw that called JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) which is similar with philips but with far better grip. I beleive that it is worth to make a video about this type of screws (JIS vs. Phillips Screws). There is no time that I will not learn something new in your videos.... have a nice day!
Yep. Japanese Industrial Standard screws are made to not cam out when removing. A Phillips head screwdriver can rip them up quite badly. JIS screws are traditionally marked with a small dot or impression on the screw head to identify them, in much the same way as a lot of brass plumbing nuts have a groove cut in them to designate left-hand thread.
Now I want a breastdrill! I still keep the closest thing I have in my active toolbag. It's a brace which I've jammed a 1/4" hex adapter in to. When the cordless drill won't do it, I use the brace!
Those are all great gifts! That breast drill demonstration was quite interesting. I have seen a few locally but they appear to have spent time near saltwater and I am in Arkansas.
LMAO... I know drug dependency is no joking matter but you have to admit that some of the most driven and creative people are driven by their next fix. 😃👍
Well the lame stream media is about everything that's wrong with today's society in the west. I'm going to end here because I'll keep ranting. But on the radio, I listen to music in my shop, on most days when I hear the news come on I immediately will plug the plug and plug back in after a couple of minutes. On the Yankee, I'm looking at a 1555 now, is that less good? Or what's the difference. Enjoy your weekend Scoutcrafter! I'm going to try to enjoy mine, I really loved this video, thanks!
Who wasn't surprised to find out ScoutCrafter has a clothes peg collection!

BSA combination spanner Used on bsa motorcycles. A toolkit spanner. Larger sizes as well , bsa used whitworth bolts almost exclusively , so four spanners would be almost all you’d need!
Whitworth! =D
Didn't seem long! LOADED with great stuff!!
Haha, I have similar locks in my apt. Old lever locks.. just 2 or 3 levers for interior doors. All exterior and entry doors are updated of course..
Some very neat things. Lots of stuff to look forward to in 2021. Have a great weekend everyone be safe out there 🐱👍
Slicker than snot on a crystal doorknob!
Great video thanks.have a great weekend 👍👍
Wow, 24 minutes! Love it!
My longest video ever! 😃👍
@@ScoutCrafter your future projects one and viewer gifts is your longest so far at 31 mins
Ken- What a great catalog too!
A driven craftsman will never live long enough to get it all done.
So true!
Have a Vessel set, the Impactas and the red and black slotted combo. Plus two all of the ball drive, no.2 and 6mm slotted. Use them every day and love them.
The square bar you called scraper looks like a brake adjusting tool. Love your show
Harold I think you are right!! 😃👍
I have an old drum brake adjuster just like that. Works better than a screwdriver. Had mine for decades. Now none of my vehicles have drum brakes
ScoutCrafter can sleep soundly I think. Mike and Frank would only be interested in his “to do” pile.😉
@@janderson8401 😆👍🏻
If you are on a media blackout there’s a great Orson Welles and Mercury theatre thing on the Columbia Broadcasting system you may enjoy, just typical evening radio programming.
I’m sure they would only break into that program if there were a genuine emergency
Well I just love watching you and 805roadking and right on with Jon crane but I keep buying tools because you guys are forcing me into it 😆
I’m very close to ordering some “Taylor Ham” (whatever that is)😃 you guys keep up the good work 👍🏻
LOL David I am a vegetarian for 20+ years and every time Jon shows his Taylor Ham Creations I literally drool!!!! =D
You should sell a t-shirt that says "Ya can't be stingy with the 50/50!" Love the channel, keep up the great work!
One of those is a grounding clamp. The 1st one u picked up.
When you mentioned the old hinges and putting on a drop of oil I remembered about putting a drop of oil on a sqeaky one here. The door now slowly swings closed no matter where it is left. I guess the foundation has settled a bit. The house is only 12 years old or so.
If you have three hinges try this: take out the center pin, bend it just a little, then tap it back in.
@@petertilford7523 Thanks. I hadn't thought of that.
Kathie- I purposely set my refrigerator up so the door closes automatically... =D
Great Video. Thanks for the info on the Vessel tools.
Mrs C still uses clothes pins hanging clothes on the line to dry.
At 6:50 on your timer you showed a
Double ended scraper , I think it was actually a Brake adjusting tool for 50’s 60’s vehicles . Sure looks like it to me !
Tons of cool stuff there and those screwdrivers look the business so I'm going to have a look in to them as I need a good set.
Great video as always, the extra time only made it better! Very nice drill.
Yep media blackout for me too. It’s driving me crazy. This is so much better content
Now I want a breastdrill! I still keep the closest thing I have in my active toolbag. It's a brace which I've jammed a 1/4" hex adapter in to. When the cordless drill won't do it, I use the brace!
Great stuff! Love the Sticker Twrecks made! 👍
i do have a bunch of the old glass nobs i grab them up whenever i see them
Those are all great gifts! That breast drill demonstration was quite interesting. I have seen a few locally but they appear to have spent time near saltwater and I am in Arkansas.
Clothes pins? Wow you really do collect everything! Love the patina patrol stickers! John what’s the best way to contact you to send you some stuff?
I'll never forget the day the glass doorknob on my bedroom door went missing. Turns out my cousin would sell them for dope money!
Hi Alex- The only difference I think between the 1555 and 555 is the chuck. The 1555 is meant for round bits... =D
