My personal take on the ending: the last sense of wukong is not in the stone but with the dude's who saw everything about wukong. The protagonist is playing as another empty vessal of wukong. And the empty vessal you fight at the end has the last piece of wukong's armor the band.
The normal ending shows you an incomplete wukong where the old monkey lied to you about the final piece being the band symbolizing the mind of wukong.
True ending shows a complete wukong coming for the band not to wear it but to completely disassociate itself with it.
"Keep those eyes open and watch me rip it off and break free" (not exact words but same message) could indicate that wukong is still alive but in pieces. It also indicates that the whole purpose of the game is to not wear the band
