Terrorising the Terrorists in Counter Strike

- About 4 years ago, the EU Counter Terrorism Coordinator investigated Counter Strike and found this. I cover it in this video because I found it interesting
The report: data.consilium.europa.eu/doc/...
The other report dedicated to Steam: www.isdglobal.org/wp-content/... - Игры
The EU counter-terrorist commission using a reference when the reference completely disagrees with what they're saying is absolutely crazy
Nah it's normal
About on par with many things the EU does.
the EU is less than worthless
All we need is free trade and open borders..... the rest is pure jizz
It doesn't disagree with it. It references the study which says there is no link - which he goes so far as to state. His issue is that the citation is at the end of the sentence instead of at the point where it begins, as it can be interpreted wrong.
Anyone who plays Counter-Strike to train for a real life attack is going go be sorely disappointed when they shoot a gun and find out that bullets irl go in a straight line unlike CS
Not to mention that it's way harder to find plant zones IRL-
And the fact that the counter terrorists will have way better equipment and armor

@@Helperbot-2000 What's that referencing? I feel like i recognise it, but don't remember where that's from.

To be honest, Valve is very lucky to have you as their content creator. And I also respect you for being open minded and forgiving, even though the news and articles had a messy, unprofessional and biased reports and research to the game "Counter-Strike: Global Operations" you're still optimistic and still understand their limited point of view. We need more people like you man, it will make the world a better place.
They might as well just fucking hire him at this point.
Or maybe Ol' Phil is actually Gabe and Gabe is just a ploy to throw us off the truth.
“Doom” and “fighting Jewish” is something i never imagined being used on the same sentence
Yah its a mod😂 weird
philip seems to have misinterpreted/misrepresented that section which is kind of ironic for this video. If you read the whole annotation instead of the part he highlighted its clear that its talking about a mod made for the game by the daily stormer
What a weird thing to say huh? Why would killing demons be associated with jews?
This is the EU were talking about, what do things do you think they're going to focus on in their reports?
I mean you are shooting demons in Doom. What did they mean by this?
11:25 Players of counterstrike often engage in the ritual mass consumption of intoxicating substances while they cheer on the leaders of their local sleeper cells (referred to as "clans") as they go through missions as evil baddies.
lmao
It's really the ARMA players we need to be careful of, they hide in their private communication channels (discord servers) discussing about their (virtual) militia campaigns and "how much fun of it'll be" to finish said campaign with their fellow "clanmates"

Hey Philip, as someone who personally does academic research on esports, you could definitely translate this video into an academic response to the articles, as a commentary x. Would love to have this rebuttal within the literature!
👀
Great idea, I don't work in acamedia anymore, and this wasn't my area of expertise in the first place, but some people definitely don't pay attention to a topic unless it's brought up in an academic paper (or an article misreferencing said academic paper) so sometimes it's really the only effective way of offering a counter argument.
It's frightening how much of what Philip demonstrates in this video (failing to trace back sources, mis-quoting, and seemingly-intentional fabrication of events) is rampant throughout the journalism and these official reports. Particularly when it comes topics or people the author doesn't like. I've seen NUMEROUS examples first-hand.

Maaan, almost 30 freaking years since Doom 2 release and people are still taking issue with that game. They might just say Doom invented violence at this point.
"The right-winf extremist news portal the Daily Stormer released its *modification* of the first-person shooter game Doom 2 which lets the player fight against a Jewish World Conspiracy."
None of this reads to me, like they are putting the blame on Doom 2 as a whole, nor are they implying it causes violence in general.
Honestly never heard of that mod before, but it sure is bizzare to see something like that. Still, it's less so they blame the game itself and rather blame its players, which is just wrong regardless.

@@kronos_1337.You might wanna get that checked, might be a genuine disorder
I'm not so sure about how this is publicly spoken about in other countries, but in Brazil, there's still some politicians saying that violent games should be banned or somehow controlled here and there.
In 2008, CS and Everquest were banned at the same time for being "harmful to consumers' health". In the article from that time, they mention CS being about "police and bandits", and that "it impresses with its realism". They saw the map "cs_rio" and thought that was it. Nothing else. They even mention that "in the game, dr*g traff*ckers" from Rio kidnap and take 3 UN representatives to a hill". They also mention the "forbidden funk" music that plays on the radio on that map. LOL
Today, we still see some politicians defending this stance. The curious thing about this is that nobody mentions video games when there's power abuse coming from the police. Is that only applicable to bandits and outlaws, then?
It's clear what their intentions are. They are completely clueless, and it's ridiculous.
It reminds me of a kind of a "firearms ban" here in Venezuela, also around those years. Where ANYTHING that _remotely_ resembled a firearm was illegal to sell (most specificly NERF products), that included speeches about how the PS2 was poison and such 😂
Wow im kinda impressed by the video kinda jumped out from the usual format. Im glad to see video that touches on real world subject matter, leading with good example and persuade people to do great things. I feel like this showed a lot of growth in your channel. Keep it up🎉🎉🎉
Some food for thought, Steve Bannon (known for such things as founding a neo nazi magazine, and later running Trump's campaign, and getting arrested for money laundering) used to run a World of Warcraft gold farming operation. Through this, he learned how many gamers are lonely, isolated guys, and realized he could weaponize that. His intent was ultimately to influence gamers, through the use of memes and spam bots spreading propaganda, to radicalize them against his opposition.
Seriously. His company was called Internet Gaming Entertainment, and he himself credits Gamergate with bringing people onto his websites and "then they get turned on to Trump." He was also vice president of Cambridge Analytica when they got into that scandal for harvesting people's data. He supports far right extremist groups in Europe, and I almost forgot to mention it wasn't just once, he got arrested for money laundering twice.
That report definitely missed the mark hard in some places, but Bannon is living, openly-admitting proof of gamers being targeted for radicalization. It's something I think you've done a really good job pointing out - we all know they goofed up on describing counter-strike, but you're right that it doesn't mean the report is all junk. There's legitimate issues that are good to shed some light on here.

Has the EU Counter-Terrorism Coordinator stopped/countered any terrorist attack in Europe? And they complain about video games.
thats the problem, they cant even if they do it actively
Hard to stop terrorism when they refuse to observe who is inclined to commit it.
A pretty large number, dozens of attacks were thwarted by the authorities in various EU countries in recent years (you can look it up) it makes much less noise on the news than actual attacks though
What I remember mostly is how they stopped old monarchy larpers from larping recently... other potentially more pressing issues, we don't know much about.
Like the FBI, they probably groom mentally unstable people into committing terrorist attacks so that those can be used in order for the government to push through legislation curbing the rights of normal citizens.

Its funny how they got rid of player models like the IDF but there is still an IDF trading card
Well, they get rid almost every single model like the GSG9, OG GIGN, SEALS, ETA separatist, Anarchists, and many more.
It is mostly because Valve can't be assed with remaking those models and it's easier to just remove them as CSGO/CS2 community being mostly tryhards means less backlash even though it's going to screw the game's art direction to miles away.
Most of the standard model like Elite, FBI, SWAT, and Balkan which are actually a standard local T/CT agent also became a paid agent only.

Very good call for a well thought-out and moderate response to such articles.
Like you said, we SHOULD try to be better than the misinformed, superficial "researchers" who write these reports.
As it has been stated numerous times, from the 80s, onwards, violent media doesn't make you violent. Violent people may gravitate towards violent media, but correlation is not causation.
When I get a kill in a video game, I find it satisfying because I know the decision-making and skill that went into it.
In no way, shape or form would I enjoy that in real-life.
If someone already has an ideology that makes them hate certain groups of people or see them as less valuable than others, a violent video game is just the icing on the cake.
One of the things that I don't think non-gamers understand is just how little things like blood or labels like "terrorist" matter in to a competitive shooter.
If they spent a few days playing, I think they would understand and shift their focus to where it matters, namely, the skill aspect of the game.
It is as much a sport as chess and a healthy outlet for aggression.
