I'd recommend watching the on stage version of this aswell, at least for your own viewing. It's a completely different tone because it's not super produced like this one. Also, if you haven't yet, you should check out KZ Tandinga, starting with her performance of Adele - Rolling in the deep from The Singer. She has a handful of performances in that show all worth a listen, but Rolling in the Deeper, Royals and See you again might be better suited for this channel :) Keep up the amazing work.
I'd love to see you react to the Chinese singer Hua Chenyu, you'd need to get the subtitled versions, but his songs Qi Tian (from Singer 2018) and Bullfight (a version of the Music Video is available subtitled) ... would really love to see what you make of his songs / lyrics
to this day i think that "but we'll stop beating this dead horse when it stops spitting out money" is one of the most apt and universally applicable lyrics ive ever heard like it's just such a good way to phrase the way the whole world works
The live version is even darker than this video. He gets the audience chanting "repeat stuff", then starts doing the Nazi salute and says "That's how the Holocaust started." Which is sadly true.
This is one song of his where I actually enjoy the LIVE performance more than the music video. When he gets the crowd to start "repeating stuff"... too good.
This one deserved a breakdown 👌 "We know it's not right. We know it's not funny, but we'll stop beating this dead horse when it stops spitting out money." Ladies and gentlemen, the marketing machine.
And id argue could be applied to multiple industries. A lot are based off of addiction, manipulation, and tactics solely designed so you hand over as much money as possible.
If you're going to do more of Bo, you should definitely do "Art is Dead", "Left Brain, Right Brain" and "From the Perspective of God" Also, please watch his full shows. Even if it's just on your own at home without us and the cameras. As always, much love to you and yours Knox.
... Gotta admit.... Was *NOT* expecting to hear you recite part of Barbie Girl by Aqua... But it is literally a perfect example because I STILL remember that song after damn near 3 decades 😂
Seriously, I remember every word too, and I HATED it as a kid lol. But I could sing every single line to this day thanks to hearing it constantly when it came out.
There's a good argument to be made for the live version of this song but honestly, for me, nothing beats the moment people realize Bo is breaking into the young fan's home and eating her literal heart
I like how you eluded to Axis of Awesome who did a bit called 4 chords song and they basically played the same 4 chords with dozens of songs interchanged during it
Great reaction, Knox. You don't have to make a reaction to this, but I'd recommend watching his comedy specials. This song "Repeat Stuff" is apart of "What." and it's pretty great performed live. I'd also recommend "Words, Words, Words" cause it's a hilarious rap type song.
please do ''The Chicken'' by Bo Burnham next. that's a song I REALLY want your reaction to. maybe not a song you laugh at, but one that makes you think, and feel things
We Think We Know You would be a good follow-up reaction to this. Repeat Stuff is all about the exploitation/manipulation that happens from (certain) content creators; whereas We Think We Know You addresses some of the toxicity that consumers give back to artists.
I love the demonic voice - to me it references the conspiracy theory that all celebrities are reptile lizard aliens who have come to take over the world, and I just love that extra layer in Bo’s humour !!!
Also, a part of that conspiracy theory is that it’s connected to illuminati and that the only way to tell the ‘lizard people’ apart from real humans is by looking at their eyes 👀 I bet he added all that on purpose to make it even more ridiculous
I don't think it's necessarily referencing a weird conspiracy theory, it's just saying the whole industry is fundamentally evil in that it's exploiting people's natural feelings for money. The satanism on display is an illustration of this evil
the "spread it like the plauge" bar is also a double, "spread it", as in their legs, and "spread it", as in share the song everywhere. it infects everyone.
Pretty sure at least once in just about every one of your videos I find myself thinking "HOW TF DO YOU KNOW THAT" 😆. Hope you keep going with Bo. Not sure how much you've done so far so recommend All Eyes On Me, That Funny Feeling, and Chicken
Dude! Every time you dip into the Bo Burnham universe it makes my day. Awesome breakdown as always. I feel like almost any of his songs would be an absolute blast to watch you dissect. But a couple that I really think you gotta see are: -Rant. (Not the Kanye Rant, just ‘rant.’) -Hell of a Ride -From Gods Perspective -How the World Works -Art is Dead -That Funny Feeling -The Chicken Also, unrelated but when you started singing ‘Barbie Girl’ it reminded me of the cover that Alex Terrible from Slaughter to Prevail did of it. The video is hilarious and AGGRESSIVELY Russian. Keep that Bo train rollin! Cheers
I have an eye for detail and I'm pretty sure that's the house Nancy from "A Nightmare on Elm Street" lived in 🤣, which is a perfect metaphor to describe the message Bo is sending
the 4 chords comment almost makes it seem like the next reaction should be 4 Chord Song from Axis of Awesome where they probably show how about 50 top hits are all the same 4 chords
Dude so glad to see Bo on here. He's so interesting to me. He does comedy, music, and film. He's entertaining but not an entertainer. He's a true artist. I think the modern world has been filled with entertainers and as such they crowd out the artists. I feel the exact same way about Ren and Harry Mack. There is a through line that connects these stand outs that has people outside their respective "genres" that truly follow them.
You can watch this video multiple times and catch new stuff every time. Hidden images and texts towards end after the piano part take forever to dissect and notice
It annoys the hell out of me when people react to this video clip version instead of the stage performance version which is mathematically exactly 120842 times better
I used to think Bo was just witty and crude.. But the dude is a genius and an incredibly talented artist…possibly the most talented we’ve ever seen. The way his mind works is fascinating
I know so many people have commented this already but words words words! theres a lot of his old stuff id love to see you react to like oh bo and im bo yo
Honestly, this song always makes me so happy that my daughter never got into boy bands and Bieber-style singers. Her playlist tends to have stuff like Sk8er Boi and songs from The Stupendium.
I haven't seen anyone else mention this, so I'll do so: This may just be my own interpretation, but the chorus, "Repeat Stuff," not only describes what pop songs do, but also cultish rituals. There's always some nonsense that you have to repeat when performing a ritual in cults, and pop songs are just a watered down version of the experience.
I think the breakdance transitioned into self deleted teen memorial scene and then he joked pulling a gun to his mouth and then we go back to the memorial scene.
Lexical repetition is one of the most _powerful_ tools in a songwriter’s arsenal… But it is not a substitute for thought, creativity, and good editing. Songwriting is a craft. These pop songs Bo dunks on make a mockery of those actually putting themselves out there like our own Knox Hill.
Every time I watch a video from you it makes my day a little brighter. You're fun and so smart I love hearing your thoughts on some of my favorite songs.
The sweetest love songs tend to be ones that were written for a specific person. Like some artists have written love songs about their spouses and it's so much deeper and you can hear just how much they really love their spouse.
This was my first experience with bo - this song. i had no idea he had so much out until reddit led me to 'welcome to the internet' and i went down the rabbit hole and watched all the things.
So fun fact. Fingerprints are not unique. They do have repeating and limited patterns. The chances of you having the exact same finger prints is 1 in 64 trillion however most fingerprint matches only use partials which lowers the chances of repeat matches down to as low as 1 in 100k. The fact that there over 6 billion people on the planet means there could easily be over 60,000 other people that could match. That does not satisfy the beyond a reasonable doubt measure in American criminal justice and will probably be removed in the near future.
When you started singing Barbie girl I started laughing. While I was still in the military, I would blast that song going through the gate to get on base. You wouldn't be surprised at how many people looked at you like you're an idoit. But you would be surprised at how often the guy checking IDs would start laughing/dancing.
I just realized why Bo picked the house from "A Nightmare on Elm Street" as the exterior because just as Freddy kills people in their dreams that's what happens to Bo's fan she dreams about Bo and he kills her while she sleeps like THAT'S THE DREAM the fan dreams about him breaking into the house so they can have sex (It's a more common fantasy than you think) and like Freddy's victims she DIES IRL
A little surprised to not see any comments about the random text that appears throughout the video. It’s more obvious towards the end, but there’s definite subliminal message satire in there that no one ever catches on the first watch
If you like pop music parody take-downs, you might enjoy Pop 101 by Marianas Trench. It's written by Josh Ramsay who co-wrote Call Me Maybe. It's more about club music, not music aimed at tweens, but also a smart deconstruction of manufactured pop music.

Fun fact: on tour, Bo actually unknowingly performed this while Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were in the crowd
Just about to comment this 😂
I never knew that, and that is PERFECT.
It's worth noting Bieber supposedly thought it was hilarious

Still shocked you haven’t broke down Words Words Words by Bo Burnham yet! It’s a MUST!
Yes ! Been wanting this for so long, other reactors miss so much, Knox will catch everything
Yes! Both that and Im bo yo
Also Oh Bo those 3 are his best songs imo
He has but on patreon
sadly it isn't patreon exclusive last time I checked

I get it get that money
but like , sadly for non patreon subscribers

He already did the Breakdown, it's obvious that he was breaking it down because pausing quite a bit throughout the video
the subliminal messages were good though
Dude, please do words, words, words from Bo. I've always wanted your specific breakdown of that one. Only you can catch all the bars
If you're going to do more of Bo, you should definitely do "Art is Dead", "Left Brain, Right Brain" and "From the Perspective of God"
Also, please watch his full shows. Even if it's just on your own at home without us and the cameras. As always, much love to you and yours Knox.
from the perspective of god is hard af
also the song sad, is really good
From the Perspective of God is the one that made me a Bo fan for life. As a secular humanist it exactly describes my worldview

Those were the opening lines of Eliot's Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock.

The live version of this song is amazing as well.
Definitely take a look at Sabaton.
