Without fail, I immediately get a lil emotional and choked up for a second when he says "If you want love then the love has gotta come from you". I feel that to my core
For me it’s the bar when he say “but no one entertains the thought that maybe god does not believe in you”
Same here
This song is so funny, so mean, so true and so sad, but also very comforting
... It does a number on me every time and the number changes each time depended on my mood... I laughed tears, but I also just plain ugly cried other times
“Live a good life.
If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by.
If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them.
If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”
Marcus Aurelius
I love Meditations
thank you, Borrowing the Quote,
i will Return (it) when you least expect it.
-Spanish inquisition
That last line always gets me...
"If you want love then the loving's gotta come from you..."
It goes back to all of us being young children, preschool or kindergarten. What was one of the very first things we all learned? "Treat others how you want to be treated." You have to give what you want to receive. It hits deep... it's a simple yet effective life lesson to learn & teach.
...and almost verbatim from the actual Bible. Luke 6:31.
@@sotxjoe3216 oh ☺ I didn't know that. I'm not a religious person, so I never read the Bible. But, thanks for letting me know that, I appreciate it. ☺
@@sotxjoe3216 Yes, but also Kong Fuxi (Confucius) 500 years earlier, the golden rule, one of his students once asked, "Is there one word that can guide a person through life?" The master replied, "Reciprocity, never choose for another, what you would not choose for yourself."
We actually have writings dating back another hundred years to Egypt relating back another THOUSAND years (2000 BC) to the goddess Ma'at about reciprocity, "That which you hate to be done to you, do not do to another."
The ancient Hindus and Greeks also had forms of this rule, so it seems just a common human trait that I think is what we call empathy (Unless you are unlucky enough to develop psychopathy or sociopathy), rather than some divine intervention...
@@42Mrgreenman Yeah, except bo wasn't singing about those guys. i was staying on topic.
I don't think I have ever seen a person relate to and be impacted by a song more in my life than this reaction lol
Fairly shallow reaction at points, but ok.
You didn't see me the first time I saw art is dead. Lol
Found an excuse for God at every question. At least she let us know she was brainwashed from the start!
@@DonerKetty i dont know man some people can believe and its kinda beautiful i personally cant and i have plenty of smart friends who do and it seems to bring them comfort and they dont use it to belittle or make people feel small or judge it just helps explain scary existential things and be less scared of death etc. i almost wish i could to be honest. alls that matters is that people dont use their religion to hurt or belittle others otherwise whats the harm?
@@DonerKetty found the atheist bo was making fun of in his song!
Left Brain, Right Brain from Bo. That is a "must".
Εσύ εδώ?😮
Suspicious quotes
You are the good kind of Christian: you use your brain, you have humor, and like humans, not just trying to get them to follow your rules and feeling superior.
I like that :) Good job ma´am, keep it up.
I'm an atheist who was raised in a very religious sect and I always thought that being Christian was about our individual relationship with god. Growing up I looked into physics chemistry and mathematics and saw everything seems so logical and consistent. There was no room for anything supernatural. Overtime my mental health collapsed and being autistic I started investigating. I started looking into psychology, sociology and epistemology. I learned of various fallacies that human brains cause us to fall into and learned how religion likes to take advantage of those. I looked into biology and learned that evolution makes sense especially when you look at the details. Looked into comparative religion studies and compared to history and anthropology which showed how religions changed and mutated, shaped by human actions in history.
In the end no theology made sense to me. It was all myths and monsters. Seeing how history and ancient humans shaped religion is fascinating. I have no reason to believe that any god ever existed. It all seems to be man made and the relationship i had with god was easily explained through our fallacious minds and how evolution shaped our existence. The only world view that was consistent with every field of study I ever looked into was atheist. I'm not mad at god or any of that nonsense. We are a social species, not being a dick just makes sense for the good of everyone. I'm a humanist now. I like seeing what religious people say about atheist content.
For someone so religious, I'm so happy you're in a place where you can comfortably disagree with certain things you've been taught and not have emotional turmoil over it. I was a little anxious with your intro, but this was a fantastic video! You're awesome
but at what % of disagreement with the doctrine of a religion can you no longer say you are a member of that religion. the people that take there religion 100% seriously and often called extremist.
i challenge everyone that is part of a religion to answer that question to them selves. then go through your holy text. tally up the tenants of that religion and see if you make the target or not. read it literally, that is how the books are meant to be read in most cases and not out of context.
I.E.
Ephesians 6:2 “Honor your father and mother” it does not stop there as most people i hear think it does. it goes on.
Ephesians 6:3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth."
sounds not bad. now lets add the context
Leviticus 20:9 "If there is anyone who curses his father or his mother, he shall surely be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother, his bloodguiltiness is upon him."
so, if you do not honor your father and mother they are instructed to put you to death. Ephesians 6 is more of a reminder or warning.
@Garfnob you don't get invited out often, do you
@Garfnob You're not wrong. But indoctrination over time + society supporting the average person being less critical in this regard due to history are pretty big barriers. Fundamentalists still out here persecuting women and the LGBTQ+. New Era "trad wives" taking back the term without addressing its toxic history. However, I do support people who actually attempt to bring more "Jesus-like" behavior to the world. But we have to recognize social toxicity.
@Frame Forward Discussing at what relative point morally or philosophically someone would have to start deconstruction rather than just ignore the vicious history of Christianity is plenty relevant and meaningful. Critical thinking is often criticized in Christian circles though. Have you fallen victim to that?
@@taylorrae3947 I'm not religious actually
My mom used my grandmother's religious belief to get out of being in trouble when she got pregnant at 14. They pulled into the church parking lot and she started the conversation with, "You know how the bible says babies are a blessing..."
Girl I’m not religious anymore after growing up heavily indoctrinated and you hit the nail on the head with this one. Everything you said definitely hits home, even if you come from a place of more faith than me.
Same!
@7:10 "God has a sense of humor!" - Britt
c.1916 "God is a comedian playing to an audience too afraid to laugh." H.L. Mencken
That quote just instantly popped in my head when you said that.
I think this song is pretty incredible, honestly. Bo really hits the nail on the head here by speaking as god even though he doesn't even believe god exists. Very thoughtful way of presenting what he believes would benefit our world.
It's cool to remember that he was only 22 when he wrote and performed this song for his special. I had many of the same thoughts as a teen but putting it into words and delivering it like this makes me feel like I'm not alone for thinking that way, which was a large comfort to me at that time. I think the only other song that gets quite this religious is his song just titles RANT, which I think is more rap based but still carries some truth bars, and just a lot of bars in general. Feels like the middle point between this song and Words Words Words. Worth a listen if you want more of his perspectives on Catholicism especially.
If you love this, you'll definitely appreciate 'rant' by Bo. Would watch!
I will keep it in mind, thanks !

@@brittreacts To avoid confusion: Not "Kanye rant", just "rant". Two different songs.
Reminds me of a poem....
'If equal affection cannot be, let the more loving one be me' - WHA
"My loves the type of thing that you have to earn and when you earn it, you don't need it". If you're already a good person in the eyes of God enough to earn his love, then you're already a good person so you don't need God's love at that point. Bars.
What a good way to express it. Just love. Believe what you need and feel what you want. If you give love you will recieve love. It's not always instant but it comes back around
Bo is amazing and your reaction was super great! Loved all your insights and commentary. One line that always stuck out to me was "when you earn my love, then you won't need it." Really spells out that love from someone else is NOT what heals you. It's not what you need.
I love Bo's face at the deli aisle line
Agree about the bar of all bars. “Doesn’t just the thought of it make it worth a try” gets me every time.
i don't comment often but this reaction made me very emotional. I have a complicated relationship to christianity due to the fact that i am gay and have always heard religion be used to treat me like shit. And watching your reaction really healed something in me. You saying that in the end, religion is just all about trying your best to be a good person, and be nice. You seem so caring, and joyful, and it's making me realise that people weren't treating me poorly cause they were christian, but just because they were mean. Thank you for bringing me back faith in humanity. have a good day, and a good life
“Let me reintroduce myself” 😂
Love how you add context and nuance to your points. Great video!
Grew up forced into Christianity and was jaded about it until I became an adult and found God my own way. People need to stop forcing religion on people because like you said it should be "relational" not forced. Also Bo Burnham is hilarious love that guy, great video!
I really enjoyed and appreciate your take on all this. The theme that really resonated for me was how humans have conceptualized a god to make themselves feel superior, and it really sums up why after growing up Mormon I left and have settled on calling myself an "apatheist".
Basically, I don't care whether there is or isn't a god of any type, I'm gonna live my life the best I can and do what I'm able to do to help the people around me while I'm here. And I think any God that's worth my time and energy would accept that.
So you decided on an attitude about "God", to afford yourself some superiority. Just be careful not to throw the baby out with the bathwater.
Every time I hear this song....mind = *blown*. Bo's a genius.
I’m so thrilled to see someone who has deconstructed their faith make it to reconstruction ❤❤❤ preach it girlie!!
You are quickly becoming the best reaction channel on youtube for me. I love your reactions and your significant other must be very happy. :) Greetings from Finland.
Thank God a Christian who finally understands the humor.
God has truly blessed you.
I've been being treated for depression for a lot of years. Watching you enjoy and laugh at videos does more for me than the meds. Love your reactions!
As an agnostic, I absolutely adore your thoughts on belief in a higher power. You greatly remind me of my sister, a devout Catholic. We believe different things, but at the end of the day, we both seem to have the same general concensous on life. Just do your best to be a good person. Don't be a dick.
I also really loved reading the bible. It is a great tool that has helped me see how people are in the world. I happened to read it cover to cover instead of the pick and choose method. I feel that is what helped the most.
Imagining a perfect creator made of love is a good meditation excercise.
Reading the entire Bible instead of curated passages is what finally allowed me to admit I didn’t believe any of it anymore.
@@devinfleenor3188
Except it’s clear that such a being doesn’t exist, based on the world we live in.
I love watching these reactions to my favorite song from bo lol. Its like I'm watching it again for the first time with someone new and getting new reactions, It's amazing 😂
Ye once when I was younger was taking communion with my mum, and I said to her as she drank the wine "are you a vampire if you drink his blood". She nearly spat it out apparently
I love how you never censor the words, makes your reactions so much better
Bo made me question my faith for the first time at 20. He has a song called catholic rant. It just asked the questions i was scared to ask before. And man it changed me. I love this man
Bo has a rap about his experiences with religion that you would love, it's called "Rant".
When I was getting ready for my confirmation when I was 13 going on 14 I had to answer a list of questions (I think there was like 9 or so) and I remember I didn’t know how to answer a few of them, but I was mostly able to figure them out. Except for question 8. Question 8 was “why did you choose to become Catholic?”
What am I supposed to say to that?
I didn’t choose to become Catholic?? My mom just dropped me off at my local church one night when I was like 5 with a folder and a pencil case and a bunch of other parents did the same thing with their kids, and then I just kept coming back once a week. 😂
Love comes from You. Happiness comes from You. Fulfillment comes from You. Nobody else but You. Take care of You first then You are strong enough to share.
As an Atheistic-Leaning Agnostic, I feel like Bo really gets a lot of things that most people don't...and naturally, those things torture him. 🙃💔✊
Great reaction as always, Britt. And if I haven't mentioned it previously, you are looking extra-gorgeous with this hairstyle. 👍✌❤
The whole pork thing was a dietary restriction based on health issues in a pre refrigeration era.
You know, i gage a person's intellect by what they find funny. And i gotta say youre one smart cookie.
"No one entertains the thought that maybe god does not believe in you..." *stares accusingly*
I really like this reaction. Normally people will pause and talk over the video and not give a genuine reaction, but you can tell this was genuine because I remember laughing like that the first time I watched this.
re: the talk of making now your heaven, the 12 min part... The song Whoops by Blues Traveler is a wonderful exploration of this idea. Song might be a bit long and unknown for a reaction but would be a good listen all the same.
That first laugh was genuine and I loved it🤣💀
That Human watching Bo is beautiful
This is why "Thank You, God" by Tim Minchin would be so perfect for you.
I had so much fun watching you react to this! 😂😂😂
I really enjoyed this reaction and hearing your views from your perspective. I am an aetheist but respect every person's faith as long as it is rooted in the positive parts of their religion. It's a shame more Christians don't have your outlook and understanding that being a good person is job one and all the rest just falls into place from there. I don't do nice things for people and be considerate because a book told me to, I do it because it brightens someone else's day and, hopefully, contributes to making the world a better place.
Yo my granddad is 88 and still alive he just retired as a baptist minister I had to stop him at thanksgiving for preaching instead of blessing the meal lol
This is one of my favorite Bo songs of all time! 😂
every recorded instance of the dead being resuscitated suggests you get exactly what you truly expect to deserve for yourself
OOOOOH, I never even considered the Bible was written from Man's perspective, that's bars
one of my favourite Bo songs, loved seeing your perspective
Also the “maybe god does not believe in you” 😭
When he said "i sent gays to fix overpopulation, boy did that go well" he was referencing the homophobia not gays being able to have kids 😭
People are not Atheists because they think god is unobtainable, they are Atheist because god doesn't exist. Thank you for the reaction.
This is the first time seeing you. Amazing reaction, so good
I’ve seen quite a few of your reactions and think it’s great the way you are religious, openly stick to your own beliefs but yet can laugh and understand other peoples takes on all things religious and also comedians taking the Micky out of all religions including your own. If only everyone was like that 🙄🤣.
Keep up your reactions are great ✌️
That. Last. Line. Kills me every time. Love this guy!
That Dehli aisle line is good haha
That last line was a definite mic drop.
Bo Burnham saying you're not going to heaven as God, is meant to show that no one will ultimately live up to the ideals of the Bible that aren't hypocritical.
hey as a lesbian jew? i really love your take on Christianity. you made me feel welcome in the first minute of this video; that's pretty dang special ma'am
Best reaction ever. I relate to this %1000000 percent
How could this not be it, this is Earth once so beautiful providing everything we ever needed but we couldn't just appreciate we turned heaven into the hell we fear most but cannot change our behavior
He has one called "Rant" with more musings on religion.
Eric Johnson’s live performance of cliffs of Dover should be in the queue. It’s one of the 4 legendary live solo guitar performances. Since you saw tender surrender, you should check it out!
I’m screamin!!!! And I am with ya Britt…all you said!! 😂
Cool to hear your take. You’re articulate and thoughtful. I’m sure you’re a great friend :)
My favourite also, I don't need a god to not be a bad person. If you're only good to please and be rewarded by a higher being, then aren't you just being self serving?
I agree with you 100 percent. Also raised traditional Baptist. I guess i qould say im agnostic now. I got sick of people acting like the fact they went to church on sundsy justified all the bad people behavior they did away from church. Bit then want to tell everyone else how they should live. Recently got to a place where i could tell my parents my stance out of fear they would not associate with me anymore. I agree with all you said. The idea of all religions is fundamentally the same thing. Do good things. Be a good person. I love the statement if you dont think a bad thing is bad its either not blakc and white or you lack morals and you dont have to have religious beliefs to have morals. If anything organized religion gives people an excuse to be horrible to eavh other because they think no matter what they do they will be forgiven. But peiple who dont fall back on that crutch live every day like our actions define us as people. Not just acting like a shitty person because they have a safety net or forgiveness. He nails exactly how i feel about the traditions being a bigger deal in religion than the messages they preach about being a good person. Hes my favorite comedisn hands down. Much love💖🫶
"That might be the bar of all bars", oh just hold your horses there.
Maaan.... if only dookie shoes and lil' stank heard this message...
I BEEN HERE A MINUTE!!!
Agreed with everything you said!! Love this song
Did..... did you just call me a comma butt? 😂
You are so much fun to watch Britt.
this one always brings me to tears.
i wonder how Britt felt about that 'Deli aisle' line lol. seriously, loving the reactions. You should check out the Australian Pirate Metal band Lagerstein. Would be hilarious to see you trying to figure out what the hell is happening. Their new video Dig Bury Drink is a banger. Super annoyed I couldn't get to the area for the day of filming because that looked like one hell of a party
Britt I have been waiting on you to do this just to see this reaction from you..
It's not Christian, but you might enjoy looking into a religion called Church of Prismatic Light. They don't hold your beliefs but they do hold your ideas.
Although not my favorite song of his (my favorites are both labeled Rant for some reason...), this one is incredible. For a funny song, it's quite beautifully worded, and thought provoking. We need to start thinking, as a species, about creating our heavens on Earth.
The sad thing about humanity is that 99% of us were taught the secrets to a happier world when we were little children (share, be kind, help others), and the vast majority of us consider these things important... but not important enough to actually live by...
Art is dead is amazing too
Stratosphere is where weather occurs.
I love your reactions and I love the way you think. I'm not religious but as far as people who believe in god, the ones I like the most are the ones like you, who believe the bible was written by some dudes and not god himself.
What I do not agree with, and it's a thing that people who believe in god don't seem to ever understand, is that the reason atheists don't believe in god is not because of how god is characterized by X or Y religion, or by some people within the same religion. That's the same reasoning used by people who think atheists don't believe in god because they hate god, and CHOOSE not to believe in it. It's like you're so convinced that god exists that it's easier to think we hate god rather than thinking of the idea of someone simply not believing in its existence.
Understanding how someone could not believe in your god is easier than you think. If you're catholic then that means you don't believe in zeus, or odin or any other god. You are 99% atheist when it comes to the whole pantheon of gods you could believe in, so how is it that weird when someone goes one step further and not only doesn't believe in all the gods you don't, but doesn't believe in yours either. That's the kind of thing you can't imagine only if you never really tried.
1:09 Al Sharpton, take a good look at what this Lady just said. I'm not particularly religious myself (although I have read a lot of religious texts), and I'm from the UK. See how easy it is to feel a connection with good people, and understand their individual experiences without the constant baiting of hate? You cannot stop the human spirit when it is at it's finest. History shows as much. I love it! 😍♥
Do oh bo next please
Oh bo play that oboe
I’m agnostic but if God is real they definitely have a sense of humour, I remember accidentally setting my hair at a wedding reception and then the song ‘relight my fire’ started…too soon man! Too soon 😑🤣
Imagine heaven was earth all along, and to “get to heaven” people just had to be good and kind and loving en masse and earth would look and feel like heaven…
I would just like to say, while the lyrics and nuance is amazing, the musical score he created for this bit is so beautifully perfect
You are 99% atheist. I'm watching you actively be a good human. You're a stone's throw from being fully atheist, and I'm rooting for you.
Complete honesty, here? Truly would like to see how she'd react to Bill Hicks and his "water cabbages" of humanity rant.
I appreciate this react video, thanks!
deli aisle always gets me to :)
Really enjoyed this video, your views on religion are very similar to mine, nice seeing someone putting it into words
No wonder you’re such a good content creator, it’s been 2min into the video and I already want to be your friend. xD
May i suggest The Loophole by Garfunkel and Oates
I don't think the theme of religion is to be a good person, but it definitely should be. All of the books from all religions need to be patched in this way.
That last line at the end, I feel, is the bar of all bars in this song. I'm really glad that you understood it correctly because most reactors don't seem to get it. They hear that and they think "oh, you need to love yourself," which is true, but not the message. They also think it means "you can't rely on others for love, you're all you got," which is also not right. You understand that it's you putting the love that you want to see in the world into the world. If we all did that, then the world could be a much better place. Just imagine if, instead of bombing Ukraine, Putin was talking with them and helping them figure out what's best for them on their terms? Things like that.
I love seeing those brought up with religious dogma watching Bo's stuff. Its all just about bein' good people.
i think this is one of his best songs.
When you earn God's love, you have became God of yourself. Then you don't need God's love, because you have your own love.
Bo speaks the truth in his songs
You know God has a sense of Humor. Just look at the Platapus. 😂
That's the opening of one of My FAVORITE MOVIES,... Dogma. You need to check it out!!
